The Xiaomi 3H is a solid workhorse and even in 2022 is still the best value air purifier you can get IMO.

Read through all the comments in past posts like these if you're interested:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/702378
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/689752

Most air purifiers are very similar to each other and differ only in the power of their fan and the size/efficiency of the filter, which determines their CADR (clean air delivery rate) — basically how much air they can filter in a set amount of time. The Xiaomi 3H is suitable for small to medium sized rooms, so you'd probably need several machines if you want to cover an entire home.

An air purifier consists of a powerful fan that forces air through a HEPA filter which captures particulates. Despite the BS marketing claims, there's no such thing as a "quiet" air purifier, because when it's quiet it's running at extremely slow fan speeds and unable to do its job of forcing air through the filter. Being loud is a good thing!

Also note that consumer air purifiers tend to have crappy particulate sensors (because good sensors cost thousands of dollars), so when you leave the machine on "auto" mode, it doesn't tend to kick in until the air is way too polluted. It's far better to run the air purifier manually at medium or high speed when you need it.

If you're running an air purifier at high power/max speed, it'll be loud enough (55-60 decibels) that it makes watching TV or listening to music in the same room basically impossible unless you're using headphones. This is normal.

Xiaomi 3H filters cost around $35-40 each when on sale. A filter should last you a minimum of 6-12 months depending on how much you run the machine — and possibly much longer if you only run it occasionally. I own 2 of these machines and run them for a few hours a day, and they're down to 62% estimated filter life remaining after about a year.

Also, I would suggest only getting the plain old HEPA filter, I don't see the point in buying those weird antibacterial or formaldehyde filter variants unless you're using your air purifier for a specialised purpose, like eliminating chemical/paint fumes or something like that.

        Nice take

      • +2

        good info!

      • +1

I forgot to mention: the Xiaomi 3H integrates nicely into Home Assistant, if you're into home automation.

I believe it uses a DC motor because it is very energy efficient — here's some stats I captured with my Power-Mate Lite energy consumption meter:

XIaomi Mi Air Purifier 3H, power level I: 3.93W
XIaomi Mi Air Purifier 3H, power level II: 17.2W
XIaomi Mi Air Purifier 3H, power level III: 27.47W
XIaomi Mi Air Purifier 3H, standby on, auto mode: 2.16W
XIaomi Mi Air Purifier 3H, plugged in to power, but "off": 1.25W

You could run it 24/7 if you wanted to and you'd barely notice the power consumption.

You will want to run it at least at power Level II, and preferably Level III in order to get the proper air filtering effect. Level I is largely useless IMO, the fan speed is just too slow (albeit quiet).

Note that using the Xiaomi Mi Home app you can manually control the fan speed/power to something a bit higher than Level III which draws even more power, but I don't think it's a great deal more, probably around 35W or so. The maximum CADR quoted by Xiaomi corresponds to this max power level which you have to manually set — and the machine gets correspondingly very loud, around 60 decibels or so.

  • BFCURVED doesn't seem to work on the monitor. Anyone else?

    • +3

It's not clear from title but:

      Available 25/11

      • Ahh got it, thanks!

      • Not working yet.

  • +1

Good competitive price could be better with an IPS panel. Beats ny previous post for Philips 34M2R. Good find OP.

  • Is this the best UW curved monitor around for this price?

    • +3

Bought this Monitor in June 2020 for home office setup. Paid $575 back then. Absolutely worth it.

Note: If you share screen with colleagues who do not yet have a 34 UW screen, keep a secondary 1080p screen connected as well for this purpose.

      • Can't comment on gaming.
      • +6

Comment for gaming - it's good, on 144hz and freesync. I don't see any ghosting but maybe I'm just a filthy casual haha

      • Thanks. Are you easily able to split the screen and display two different applications at the same time? thanks

        • +2

Yeah you can on PC or MacOS
Both OS's have snap to half or you can download some third party software for more customisability

          • +1

@HungryBen: Windows Key + left right up or down arrow keys works out of the box as HungryBen mentioned.
Otherwise download Microsoft power toys and look for FanzyZones for more advanced capabilities

            • +2

@FarKen: +1 for FancyZones, it's a free tool provided by Microsoft that is surprisingly powerful.

    • +5

      Short answer: yes

There are other UW monitors with slightly better specs out there, but they are always more expensive. If you want that UWQHD life and have a limited budget, this is the cheapest way to join the club.

I've been using one for a couple of years. It has slightly uneven backlighting, the included stand isn't great, and it doesn't have wonderful colour accuracy, or a USB hub, or a convenient navigation nipple. But it works pretty damn well, and as far as sheer value for money goes, it's pretty hard to beat.

      • well said. the RRP alone is so attractive.

  • How does the 3H compare to the newer 4 purifier?

    • new ones dont use true hepa filters

  • How does the 3H compare to the 4 lite? Hard to make a decision
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/738747 shows only 1 dollar difference!

      find this node myself
Apparently, 3H use common HEPA and 4lite use xiaomi hepa?
But 4lite is newer and quieter
I just go with 4 lite. Will see

      • Thanks for sharing. I went with x2 3H model considering I couldn't find many cheap filter for 4 lite. Ongoing cost should be cheaper but without the added features.

    • +1

I got a 4 lite in a previous deal when I thought 3H deals were not going to happen again. I regret it. It's not actually quieter than the 3H. The 4 lite has a wall wart and cylinder plug into the purifier about half way up. the wall wart of course is non-au so you need a pin adapter. The 3h uses a figure 8 plug directly into the base of the unit on the back, so you can just switch the cord over to an au figure 8 cord (which last time I got one, the seller bundled in), and not need a plug adapter, plus it's a neater position where it goes into the unit. Filters are also easier to find for the 3H so far (but I assume will eventually get harder as time goes on). Mi home and the unit's display are pretty much same enough that I haven't looked for many/any differences.

  • I did use this monitor.

Nothing bad except its so heavy and my vesa arm can't take that.

    • Is that due to purely the weight of the monitor, or is the VESA attachment point deep inside the monitor (due to the curvature)?

I have a different 34" curved monitor, and due to their backshell design, the VESA attachment can only use long adapter bolts. So the net effect is that the weight of the monitor is acting on a fairly long lever arm. The socket that lets me adjust tilt and pan of the monitor just can't hold well against that force. :/

      • +1

Pure weight of the monitor itself. Even without the stand, certainly need to take into consideration. Forget about my vesa arm, that's a cheap one from China haha.

  • +1

ive seen another post where they were saying this xiaomi monitor is nothing special and they were recommending some dell one fr similar price i cant remember which model tho

    • yeah I'm looking for a second 27 inch monitor to use with PS5, not sure which to get

      • +1

Recommend the usual resolutions for consoles, black bars are very sad for ultrawides

        • What are the normal resolutions? Do you mean that ultra wides aren't great for gaming because there is always going be black bars at the sides and top of the screen? thanks

    • +2

Dell S3422DWG but I don't think it ever dipped sub $450 besides a refurb sale from Dell outlet and averages $530ish. That being said, the only Dell differences are:

Dell has a lighter curve (1800R vs 1500R), but coming from a flat ultrawide, the 1500R doesn't hurt and I do CAD work.
It has HDR400, arguably not worth it at all.
USB 3.2 Gen 1 hub, which is pretty good.

So IMO, $530 vs $427 and missing USB hubs

  • Do people use this monitor for work or more for gaming? Not sure if overkill for wfh setup. Use a 34' dell P3421W monitor at work and would like to have a similar setup at home

    • +1

I do both for this monitor. Works well for both my needs. As for overkill, who doesn't like seeing your cursor at 144hz in documents/spreadsheets haha. But seriously, for the price - it won't matter if you don't use the extra "gaming" features, unless you need something more colour-accurate or IPS

      • Thanks, might get it

      • cant say no to smooth mouse transitions on excel. It will help me work better

    • +1

At home I have a single 34" 1440p curved display. At work I have a pair of 24" 1440p flat monitors side by side.

For work I prefer the single, larger display. It's easier to cascade/arrange windows as needed when there's not a bezel down the middle of where I'm naturally looking.

For gaming, the curved monitor does make things more immersive, but being ultrawide means you're pushing more pixels per frame, too. So to keep FPS where you want them, either your system requirements go up or your visual quality settings go down. It's a tradeoff that'll be different for everyone.

      • Thanks!

  • +1

Any recommendations on monitor arms for this monitor?

  • Where do you get the filters for these things?

    • +1

The same places where you can buy the Xiaomi 3H: eBay, Xiaomi resellers, sometimes AliExpress etc.

Here's one listing, there's a bunch more out there if you search for "xiaomi 3h hepa filter":
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313956260645

Usually costs between $33-40 per HEPA filter. I suggest only buying the plain HEPA filter, avoid the purple "antibacterial" filter, it's basically pointless.

Beware, some of the cheaper filters ($28 or less) are 3rd party clones, not genuine Xiaomi filters. You can usually tell because they say "for Xiaomi 3H" or something along those lines, and the photos tend to look different and less professional to the ones that the official Xiaomi site uses. I have no idea if the 3rd party clones are good or bad, but for the price I'd rather just get the OEM part.

      • +1

Thanks. I have the Mi2s and it looks like these fit that model too.

        Appreciate your help.

      • The one linked above seems to be "for Xiaomi" too. Anyone know good deals for the legit ones? Used to see 2 X $x all the time but seems rare.

Estimated between Tue, 20 Dec and Wed, 28 Dec to 2088

        • +2

Yeah, ordered this, but thinking of cancelling. Bit of a deal breaker if I can't get it before Christmas.

          • +1

@monkeymuffins: I'm on thr same wave. Maybe I'll order LG or Gigabyte to have it within 2-3 days.

            • @flyduffer: what model is the LG and gigbyte, do they compare well around same price? I might wait for a deal on the dell 34 uw curved as I just got the dell monitor arm so might as well match them up.
