Welcome to the ultimate guide of Spotify subscriptions!

ATTENTION 07/07/23 onwards: Please avoid transferring into OlduBil while I investigate a minor issue. OlduBil has removed Aktifbank from their list of banks, and this may cause transfer problems such as lost money. I will update an alternate bank ASAP after I finish some transfer tests. Testing is now complete, and all test transfers are successful via VakıfBank. DO NOT use Aktifbank until further notice. Please see updated instructions on the Xbox post to transfer into OlduBil. OlduBil remains the best free Virtual Turkey Mastercard provider.

Like literally every guide I've made, I spent a chunk of money out of generosity to test the current validity of this method (I tested transfers from Wise into OlduBil) as well as screenshots throughout the sign-up process (see screenshots in the instructions section). The good news? Spotify Premium is at an ALL TIME LOW! Perfect for those who couldn't sign up with the Google Pay method!

Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Xbox Game Passes, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

The processes below are very easy, just take it slow and you'll get there! Just remember you'll be saving hundreds at the end of the day.

Turkey VPN and Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Note that due to a recent and continuing crash in the Turkish Lira currency, the TRY-AUD is hitting an all time low. All prices in this guide are current as of 26 June 2023.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. If you already have a Turkey based Virtual Mastercard, proceed with the following instructions. If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, STOP HERE and see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784047.

Turkey based Virtual Mastercard REQUIRED

Notes: The Spotify sign up pages will be in Turkish (which is easily navigatable if you have some common sense). Feel free to translate the page to English otherwise.

  1. Log in to Spotify (VPN off), or make a new account (VPN off).

  2. Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

  3. Go to the Spotify Premium plans page.

  4. Scroll down and select the plan you want. Proceed to pay with your Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard.

  5. Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

HELP POINT: Because the popup payment windown cannot be translated to English, here are screenshots of the process in the following order: (1), (2), (3)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Spotify sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I listen to Spotify?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you use Spotify Premium. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Spotify without a VPN.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Spotify account, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: Is signing up to Spotify Turkey going to affect my Spotify library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Spotify catalogue/recommendations may be weird with brand new regional music, etc… but your Spotify catalogue will adjust to what you’re listening to and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

An update as promised! Money has been withdrawn from turkish mastercard. All family members are still intact and working!! Looks all good 👌

      • @cheapass88 Thank you! I'll update that onto the post tonight along with what I said I was gonna do days ago all tonight for future signups :))))

        • Just another update. I have turkish recommendations now haha. Thanks mate

    • @cheapass88 thank you for sharing this - will give it a crack!
just a quick question - did you, or any of your family members have to change the Spotify country to Turkey? or kept as Aust?
      tia!

      • +1

I have not changed anything. I'm still in Australia and all the family members don't even know I've made these changes yet. Will be messaging them tonight!

  • Can we change the country in Spotify account settings back to Australia after payment? Mine is currently greyed out and stuck on Turkey. Ideally I don’t want to get recommendations for Turkish stuff which it currently has.

    • No you can't. Spotify will get used to your tastes soon and the Turkey stuff will lessen and lessen

  • I am currently connected to a VPN in Turkey, but the site pages are being displayed in English without me having to translate them. What could be the issue here? Using an old Spotify account created in AUS, showing country or region: Australia

    • Change the region to Turkey

      • I see! Select your country or region: Türkiye vs Turkey (English). Has anyone left it on Turkey (English)?

        • I did…worked fine

  • How long does the transfer from Rev to the Turkey bank take? My Rev says the transaction is completed but nothing is on my OlduBil account. Ty in advance

    • Took about 15-20 minutes for me

      • Damn its been a few hours and still nothing :(

    • +1

@Miichael Just to give some perspective, even though I did the transfer using Rev, yesterday around ~0800 it didn't reflect till ~16:34(as per noted in OlduBil) hours later in the day…hopefully yours will be reflected soon!

      • Okay great! Should I contact Rev if it still hasn't gone through by tomorrow?

        • +1

@Miichael At the top of the Microsoft Game Pass post, there has been an update since yesterday:

28/06/23 1:00pm - Due to a public holiday in Turkey from 27 June to 1st July (Kurban Bayrami Holiday), all transfers are delayed until Monday 3rd July. Please keep this in mind when making a transfer. - thanks to @netsurfer

Just wait patiently, Spotify prices aren't running anywhere, other than currency fluctuations which will fluctuate every month anyway.

  • I have cancelled my wise transfer and am using Revolut and funds are already sent. Just waiting for them to appear on OlduBill.

    • At the top of the Microsoft Game Pass post, there has been an update since yesterday:

28/06/23 1:00pm - Due to a public holiday in Turkey from 27 June to 1st July (Kurban Bayrami Holiday), all transfers are delayed until Monday 3rd July. Please keep this in mind when making a transfer. - thanks to @netsurfer

  • So once the funds land in my virtual card
Can I pay using the Spotify option and enter the virtual card details or through Google Play/Pay

Because for me the GP option kept failing saying it wasnt in the right country

    • Straight up enter your virtual mastercard details :)

      Don’t use Google Pay

      • +1

        Thank you mate :)

      • And can we keep transferring to the Virtual Card to keep up the repayments?

        • Yes. You can do that. Try to limit your repayments, because wach Revolut transfer costs about 30TL and Wise about 25TL

Just remember OlduBil 2750TL monthly limit

  • Its worth noting with Revolut u have to verify ID to exchange and send

They only accept Passport and Drivers License ONLY
so those unable to drive and have no passports state issued Photo ID wil not be accepted

Tidal Family (6 Users) CD Quality Hifi Tier only 58 cents a month currently via Argentina VPN trick. No brainer. Much higher sound quality that Spotify and 58 bloody cents a month for up to 6 users. Just joined using TunnelBear VPN and Mastercard.

    • But they lack of music compare to Spotify and Google Music.
Also, do note not everything is Hi res audio, I used Tidal last year but stopped after lack of music I enjoy.

    • I just switched my Tidal account over to become a family plan before discovering that neither Amazon Echo nor Google Nest can play songs via Tidal, which is unfortunately a deal breaker for my family (I'll still keep my Tidal account though). Spotify still has its place, even though its a bit more expensive.

    • It’s going up in price to 599 ARS soon. Spotify will be cheaper then.

      • Could you link to where you got this price from? Also that's still just $3.50 a month for true CD quality streaming vs Spotify.

        • +1

It was in an email I received from them a couple days ago. It was 589ARS not 599.

“El precio de TIDAL HiFi Family cambiará partir del 1ero de Agosto de 2023
          Hola,
El precio de la suscripción de HiFi Family subirá a $589 el 1ero de agosto. Tu suscripción se renovará automáticamente al nuevo precio de $589 el 1ero de agosto o en tu próxima fecha de facturación (la fecha que sea primero). El nuevo importe se cobrará al método de pago que hayas registrado, a no ser que canceles antes de dicha fecha.”

          Translated to

The price of TIDAL HiFi Family will change from August 1, 2023
          Hello,
The HiFi Family subscription price will go up to $589 on August 1st. Your subscription will automatically renew at the new price of $589 on August 1 or your next billing date (whichever comes first). The new amount will be charged to the payment method you have registered, unless you cancel before said date.

And 589ARS to AUD is $3.44

  • Wise is not processing my payment as they require a Birlesik number to proceed. What on Earth is that?

  • +1

@I Smell Pennies Thanks mate! much appreciate easy to follow step by step guide, even though it took "closer to a day" for Rev money to transfer BUT been patience rewarded at the end!! in these dark times with inflation/cost of living etc. this is a savior! now to see to more savings, with other entertainment subscriptions you have noted! THANK YOU!

  • Does anyone know if there are similar geo hacks for Adobe (photography plan)?

    • There's been a couple posted from Lebanon
$7 and $15 for creative cloud for the year

      • Yes this. Turkey is too expensive with Adobe

  • +6

Not sure if this has been covered before but it took me a little bit of looking to work out how to prepay for 12 months - I believe this might only work on the Individual or Student Spotify plans but once your funds have cleared into OlduBill, follow steps 1 and 2 in the original post -

     1. Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

     2. Go to the [Spotify Premium plans] (https://www.spotify.com/tr-en/Premium/#plans) page.

     3. Under the "Individual" or "Student" plans click on "MORE PAYMENT OPTIONS"

     4. Under the "Prepay" heading select "12 months - One-time payment of 299,99 TL"

     5. Proceed to pay with your Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard

     6. Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Hope this helps people looking to prepay 12 months.

    • Thanks! I'll update the post soon!

    • Thank you for this!

      For everyone else wondering it's
      TRY299.99 ~ AUD17.5443 (Wise conversion)

    • Looks like it's "Individual" or "Duo" that offer "MORE PAYMENT OPTIONS"

  • +1

Another great success (coming from the Xbox deal)!

Cancelled existing family subscription, started the new one with TRY and all members are still active.

Thanks again for saving me some money, Pennies!

    • Hi, have you been successful with the virtual card or google payment? I am in the same boat. I can cancel the family sub but it won't let me renew using google pay option. I could do by using the virtual card option.

      • +1

Yep, I used Revolut and the OlduBil card, following these instructions exactly I had no issues at all :) good luck!

    • +1

      Amazing :)

  • Can't seem to get it to work with VPN Unlimited, can anyone assist?

  • Thanks a lot mate.
I have sent my fund on 27 June 8 Pm and as I m writing it, 28 June 4:26 pm, the fund hasn't been showing in my Oldubil yet.
I used Revolut and it has confirmed the sending.

    • Same timeline as mine and from Revolut as well. Still nothing in my Turkish account yet.

    • Same here did it about 10pm
there's a thread in the xbox deal that it might be a public holiday in Turkey…so we could be in for a wait.

    • I paid at 1:41 am on the 28th and it still hasn't left my Revolut acout (6pm). I wonder if they are running out of Turkish L in their Turkish bank accounts .

    • To check, you did put in your Oldubil card number on the payment reference section when you were doing the transfer?

I forgot to do that (see my post below) and I had to get them to fix it manually although I incurred 20 lira in fees (so less than a dollar but still!).

    • Same here for me 8:50pm on 27th, still nothing. I double checked and card as reference number is definitely there.

Sent everything to their support team, they’ve said they haven’t received a single thing.

      • +1

Just googled and there are Turkish public holidays from 26/6 to 1/7. Oh well!

  • +1

Thanks OP! I cancelled my Spotify premium sub last night and just now managed to restart it but with the more favourable Turkish pricing!

For those who forget to include the OlduBil card number on the payment reference section when transferring money (like me because I am an idiot), Oldubil should be able to help you but you will pay the 3 Lira fee (plus in my case another 17 lira fee) and you must send them the official payment/deposit receipt via email. This receipt will contain the SWIFT transaction keys plus more info as they will not accept a screenshot from the Wise or Revolut app nor the confirmation email you get when the transfer goes thru.

    • @stigsphilocousin No worries. Enjoy! You also seem to be the first person who got that resolved, good job! Lucky you were able to get your money back.

      • +1

Yeah got lucky there; they were able to assign the funds to my card so no loss there apart from the worry and the 20 Lira in fees.

        • Very lucky. It's much better than losing $70 that's for sure!

          • @I Smell Pennies: If I did lose the money, then it would have been only $20 that I would have lost as a form of idiot tax (I transferred just enough for 10 months or so).

  • Revolut says my Olibuli has received the money but when I check olubuli my money isnt showing is it because of the public holidays?

  • +1

Just for reference in case people are wondering, I'm on a Turkish Family plan via Google Turkey linked to my Westpac credit card, and was charged A$3.27 two days ago. ($0.38 more, allowing for Bank rates and FX fees). Still a bargain though! Thanks to I Smell Pennies for his earlier guide. He's a legend!

    • @drayke9 yeah, Turkey currency has been significantly fluctuating over the past weeks, sometimes you get lucky and it's processed during a dip or crash.

      Thanks for your support!

    • Did you create the Google Turkey account from scratch? Did you need to put in a mobile number to create the account?

      • +3

My previous comment in the old thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771897

I just signed up to Spotify Turkey on Tuesday 23 May 2023, so I can confirm this is still working.

I am an existing spotify user (paid full price premium for about 7 years), then went free earlier this year. Managed to get my account transferred across, with my playlist history intact.

Initially encountered all the above problems/error messages, but here's what I did that worked for me:
I used Blue stacks, GetFlix VPN.

        With VPN set to Turkey:
        - I created a brand new google profile.
        - I noticed that you need an address and postcode before Google 'sets' your profile to Turkey (I'm speculating here, but I'm guessing this is the cause of a lot of errors). So I used a Turkish address from bestrandoms.com. You only need a street name and you need to separately google the postcode.
        - I linked my AUS credit card to google
        - Ran blue stacks - the playstore should default to Turkey. Downloaded Spotify from the Turkish Playstore.
        - Logged into my existing Spotify account using this newly downloaded app, swapped country to 'Turkey'.
        - Opted to upgrade to Family plan and paid with google pay, and it went through instantly.

To add family members, their base country must be set to Turkey (they'll need VPN), and the address must match yours (can be an Aus address)

        Hope that helps.

        • Thanks. I tried to create a new Google profile using Turkey VPN, but it asked for my mobile number for verification. The country defaulted to Turkey +90. I can change that to Aus but not so keen on connecting my real mobile with this account, because then Google can tie it to my real account.

          • @fredblogs: Ok - I think I added mine. It wasn't a problem for me because I was adding my Australian credit card to it, which is the same on my other Google accounts already.

  • Over 24 hours since Revolut said the payment went through and still nothing in my Oldubil account :(. Have triple checked the details and they seem good (no spaces in the reference number)
Anyone else having the same issues?

    • +1

I am. I think it’s because there is public holidays for the next couple of days in turkey.

    • Turkish public holidays. See the mastercard thread or numerous previous posts.

    • Thank you! Good to know

    • +1

Prety much what they said ^^ don't stress, Spotify Turkey prices ain't going anywhere

i am sorry not sure whether i made the mistake or it would be alright, i am afraid proceeding and confused so i stopped in between. You mentioned that sign up Spotify with vpn off. Which i did. Then i connected vpn then go to payment plan, it somehow opened the account profile and showed region as Australia. When it suppose to be turkey. So i choose turkey and saved. Then i thought why i did it? Why you mentioned vpn off and create account… What should i so? I need to sign up for family package. Please help… Assorted i leave it Australia or turkey before paying? If main account is Australia then how i will add my family members under turkey? Cant understand why sign up without VPN?

hey Op, thanks for this. Legendary!
would this work for Xero software?

    • Thank you. Send me a PM so I can check it :)

  • Why don’t we have an entire week of public holiday in Australia?

    • Ask this corrupt government 🤡

    • Would be great, I think I'll need an entire week to go thru Cocochicken's instructions above - no offence

  • Hmmm I just got an email saying "Premium Duo planını iptal ettin" (You canceled the Premium Duo plan). Too many new subscribers in 'Turkey' flag something??

  • +1

    Thank you very much ISP!

  • So every month need to have money in turkish OlduBil card to be charged? or can use australian bank account to pay monthly later on?
Or the spotify will charge OlduBil everytime direct debit?

  • Excellent post. Does it work on Deezer or Amazon Music Unlimited?

  • +2

Is anybody else still waiting for the Turkish guy whose job is to press OK on money transfers to come back from the holidays?

    • +1

      yep..longest public holiday in history

    • +1

😂😂 honestly though, what do they do to even deserve a long as holiday…

      • +1

Imagine if you’re in turkey and actually need money instantly to pay for stuff, but you can’t get it for an entire week because everybody is on holiday

        • +1

Imagine you're in Turkey and going to a local ATM and getting money out so you can pay for stuff instantly - amazing!!

  • Ok, so I did this a few months ago, but with a Philippines account (just a bit more expensive), and now I realised there's a few gaps in my music library. There are many albums I like that aren't available in the Philippines.

Which is odd, because I thought the availability of the music varied based on where you're currently located, not where your account settings are.

I'll have to contact Spotify, because I can't change my country in the account settings. I hope I don't have to cancel my premium subscription.

  • +4

Hi @I Smell Pennies thank you so much. Bills have been hitting hard and i have been cancelling all the subscriptions lately. Really appreciate you taking the time writing this out and the revolut instructions on the other page. I will think of u every time i listen to my turkish spotify on the train.

    • +6

Hi @redlobbb, thanks so much for your support! I can’t believe your first comment ever on OzB is to show such support and appreciation towards me. I’m blessed to have helped you during these hard times mate. Every penny counts now and I hope you’re doing ok and can get some subscriptions back up and running! 🥺🥺 Take care and if you ever need anything I’m only a PM away :)

  • Hi, Sorry to ask for help when it seems so many people have been able to complete this already.

I have an existing Family plan set up with my Australian address.
My credit card expires later this month, I have cancelled the current family plan.

1 Log in to Spotify (VPN off), or make a new account (VPN off).
    - Done using my existing Spotify family account

2 Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).
    - I have a paid VPN with Proton VPN, the Turkish VPN shows my address as in Istanbul

3 Go to the Spotify Premium plans(spotify.com) page. https://www.spotify.com/tr-en/Premium/#plans
This site does load but has it is tr-en it is showing the prices in English, is this correct?

4 Scroll down and select the plan you want. Proceed to pay with your Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard.
When I select a plan, I get the error "Sorry, you are not eligible for that plan. Here are some other ways to get Premium."

I saw some comments on changing your Country to Turkey,
    When I go
Profile - Account - Account Overview
My country or region is set as "Australia"
It is greyed out and I can not change it
Underneath it says "Read more about changing your country or region."
Gives me a link to this page
    https://support.spotify.com/tr-en/article/country-region-set…

Log in to your account page.
Under Your plan, click UPDATE next to your payment method.
Enter a new payment method that was issued in your new country or region.

So with VPN on I log into https://www.spotify.com/tr-en/account/overview/
Click "Update" (Can see my Aus card details and the $18.99 family plan details there)
Under PayPal it says "Australia Change Country"
    Click "Change Country"
    Select Turkey

It shows a AUD$11.99 premium individual account
For a 2nd time click Under PayPal it says "Australia Change Country"
    Click "Change Country"
    Select Turkey

Now it shows the Premium Individual account in 29,99 TL/month
    Click Change Plan
    Select Family Plan
    Still get the error

Repeat steps above and go with the defaulted ₺29,99 / month plan
Leave the plan as it was and put my Oldubil card details in
(Oldubil money still haven't arrived but I am paid up until the 20/7/23 with Aus card)
It is accepted and says I am subscribed

My Country still shows as Australia when I go to https://www.spotify.com/tr-en/account/profile/

Not sure if this has worked, or something basic I am missing?

    • I am thinking I might need to wait for my premium plan to end before I can manually set my region and complete these steps

      • +1

That is correct. Hmmm, so are you now subscribed to the Individual plan? (which is what you don't want right)
