Welcome to the ultimate guide of Spotify subscriptions!

ATTENTION 07/07/23 onwards: Please avoid transferring into OlduBil while I investigate a minor issue. OlduBil has removed Aktifbank from their list of banks, and this may cause transfer problems such as lost money. I will update an alternate bank ASAP after I finish some transfer tests. Testing is now complete, and all test transfers are successful via VakıfBank. DO NOT use Aktifbank until further notice. Please see updated instructions on the Xbox post to transfer into OlduBil. OlduBil remains the best free Virtual Turkey Mastercard provider.

Like literally every guide I've made, I spent a chunk of money out of generosity to test the current validity of this method (I tested transfers from Wise into OlduBil) as well as screenshots throughout the sign-up process (see screenshots in the instructions section). The good news? Spotify Premium is at an ALL TIME LOW! Perfect for those who couldn't sign up with the Google Pay method!

Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Xbox Game Passes, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

The processes below are very easy, just take it slow and you'll get there! Just remember you'll be saving hundreds at the end of the day.

Turkey VPN and Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Note that due to a recent and continuing crash in the Turkish Lira currency, the TRY-AUD is hitting an all time low. All prices in this guide are current as of 26 June 2023.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. If you already have a Turkey based Virtual Mastercard, proceed with the following instructions. If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, STOP HERE and see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784047.

Turkey based Virtual Mastercard REQUIRED

Notes: The Spotify sign up pages will be in Turkish (which is easily navigatable if you have some common sense). Feel free to translate the page to English otherwise.

  1. Log in to Spotify (VPN off), or make a new account (VPN off).

  2. Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

  3. Go to the Spotify Premium plans page.

  4. Scroll down and select the plan you want. Proceed to pay with your Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard.

  5. Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

HELP POINT: Because the popup payment windown cannot be translated to English, here are screenshots of the process in the following order: (1), (2), (3)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Spotify sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I listen to Spotify?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you use Spotify Premium. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Spotify without a VPN.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Spotify account, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: Is signing up to Spotify Turkey going to affect my Spotify library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Spotify catalogue/recommendations may be weird with brand new regional music, etc… but your Spotify catalogue will adjust to what you’re listening to and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

I am trying with transferring from the Up app because they for international payments use wise. I will let everyone know if it works. I used the Aktifbank IBAN and it verifying and the up app said should be verified by 11am

    • +1

      Keep us updated :)

    • +1

Update: Up cancelled the payment because they couldn’t verify the details.

      • you must have made a mistake as i did this exact same thing using Up and the built in wise transfer and it worked perfectly

Here's a tip @I Smell Pennies - try using this url as the link - it's in English and is the one I used a week ago

    This is fantastic, thank you.

Any chance of a Tidal version of this?

    • +1

      +1 for TIDAL

      • I might look into it, but if it is Turkey related, should work 100% with the Turkey virtual mastercard!

    • +3

Tidal is cheap as via Argentina

ISP, big THANK YOU on the guide you took the time to create (and test with your own money) to make it easier for people like doing this in bed. The step by step is a cinch to follow.

I have stopped paying for Spotify Duo and the ads that play in the car was slowly killing me. Such a timely post saved me :D

    OzBargain is Life.

Thanks so much for your support! Yes it is time consuming and I spent hours making these guides (this Spotify one was quick however), sometimes up until 4am. I always want to help people and don’t want you guys losing money in case it doesn’t work. So I spend money and test it first (knowing I shouldn’t because I’m young and jobless 😔)

  • Should I migrate from the Philippines?

    • Yes

      • Thanks for answering this question

My philippines account goes through Paypal which seems a lot easier than the method above, could be worth keeping just for that

Still contemplating to purchase as I have Youtube family and unsure how much an extra service benefit for music. I get it with video streaming services but unsure about audio streaming, does anyone else have both and recommend having both services in 2023?

    • +2

I just ended up using YouTube music. I live in India for that.

    • +2

Out of all seriousness, Spotify is THE best music app. It isn't the highest quality streaming for hardcore audio nerds. The app is fantastic, very user friendly with loads of features, and offers multi device streaming/switching which others do not offer (like switch playing from my PC to my phone in a click and continue the song).

Won’t someone think of TayTay and her reduced revenues!!!! Lol

Maybe she makes it back at her concerts with all the free phones coming at her at speed.

  • Anyone know of a way to switch back to an AU card after signing up with a OlduBil Virtual Turkish Mastercard (whilst remaining paying in TL of course)

  • when tried to add more members to my family plan it comes like "It looks like you’re trying to join Duo from a different country. Duo is only available for couples that live together. Try again when you’re at the same address."

    Could anyone help fix this?

    Thanks guys.

    • +4

@Blok, on each account that you want to invite, turn on VPN, then go into the account settings and change the country from Australia to Turkey. Then join the invite again :)

      • +1

        Wow too good thanks mate

      • +1

what address did u put for family plan? i put my aussie address and its not working.
tried vpn turkey with aussie address and still not working.

      • This is my hurdle so far. I got my account signed up fine (as a duo account)

But my wife’s account setting. The option to change countries is grey out and stuck on Australian. (With vpn enabled)

Any ideas to get around this?

        • Try re-enabling VPN or try different VPN.

          Also,

To view your information, click on "Account Overview". In order to modify the Spotify location, choose "Edit Profile"

      • This worked for me, but now everything is in Turkish language for everyone in the Family plan.
I can't get the dropdown box to re-enable to return to Australia.

        • You can change the app language in settings. Google translate shows "language" as "dil" in Turkish. Do you see that option? Try going in there and find English

  • +1

This is awesome! It worked like a wonder and the instructions are so simple. I had trouble signing up via the Google Pay method and end up joining PHP Spotify. I can transition to Turkey and still save 50% from PHP rate.

  • +2

Thanks for all the commitments but I stay with my method to sign up with a new Microsoft account every 3 months. Use it for 3 days and get Spotify for 3 months free. I do this since a year now.

    • +1

      No worries

    • Do you use the same card to sign up with no problems?

      • No, different cards. I have several cards from business and personal. If I run out I will use prepaid cards.

        • +3

          Use revolut

          • @Feeblely: Can you generate a new card easily? How does revolut work?

            • @ColtNoir: Use wise. Can get upto 4 virtual cards at a time. Delete any and generate new instantly.

  • Looks like family members cannot accept my turkey family invite - turns out their Spotify country is AU and unable to change it in iOS app. Any tips?

    • Tell them to change their country to turkey by using a VPN on IPhone many free ones offer 1 week trials

On each account that you want to invite, turn on VPN, then go into the account settings and change the country from Australia to Turkey. Then join the invite again :)

      • Australia appears greyed out preventing me from updating the country to Turkey? Any ideas?

        • Is VPN on?

          • @I Smell Pennies: Yes, I've tried on my mobile and browser via Windscribe.

            • +2

Your a true savior and legend :)

I am having the same issue. Can you please pm me. Tried exactly as you said but Australia is still greyed out!

                • +1

@darkknightwayno: Are you still on Premium? Wait till it expires and it should work. Mine expires on Thursday so I can update you then.

                  • @soongy: Hey Soongy,

Yes bro, I had premium and cancelled yesterday. Runs out on July 13th :(

Will do it then. Let me know how you go bro! Enjoy!

                    • @darkknightwayno: Happy to report back waiting for premium to expire worked and that I was able to change my location to Turkey and accept the Family request.

                • +1

@darkknightwayno: Thank you for your comment mate :)
PM sent, but I'm guessing it's because you have Spotify Premium? If so, let it expire first as per @soongy's comment above

                    @I Smell Pennies: Hey Brothaaa!!

How you doin my man?! Thanks for being a LEGEND and helping us all on here :)
Yes I cancelled my Premium Sub last night… Ill wait till the 13th of July and re -try…. Is this special pricing limited to time or an ongoing Turkish Sub costs this much. I'll be doing the Family plan. lol
                    Cheers bro

                    • @darkknightwayno: Hey bro, I'm good, how about you? Thanks for your support man.

Yes I cancelled my Premium Sub last night… Ill wait till the 13th of July and re -try…. Is this special pricing limited to time or an ongoing Turkish Sub costs this much. I'll be doing the Family plan. lol

Turns out you can actually sign up right away with the link on this deal post (logged in, then VPN on, then open deal link). Apparently this doesn't break apart your family group, which inevitably happens when your sub expires. See here

Try it and let me know

Is this special pricing limited to time or an ongoing Turkish Sub costs this much

It's been like this for a long time. No rush. The price ain't running anywhere from you :)

                      @darkknightwayno

                      • @I Smell Pennies: I think you should add this to the FAQ, as it works a treat for family.

I just cancelled by family sub (expiring July 20), opened your link for premium plans, and it let me sign up to family no issues, didn't have to even change language in Spotify app, nor did I have to re-add family members back in.

                • @darkknightwayno: @I Smell Pennies. I am having the same issue where existing my wife is subscribed to premium personal. So I asked her to cancel it. But she can't change her profile country setting. Not sure whether she needs to wait until the last day of premium expiry only then can change. Or else please PM me what can get her to change the country.

      • @I Smell Pennies i am sorry not sure whether i made the mistake or it would be alright, i am afraid proceeding and confused so i stopped in between. You mentioned that sign up Spotify with vpn off. Which i did. Then i connected vpn then go to payment plan, it somehow opened the account profile and showed region as Australia. When it suppose to be turkey. So i choose turkey and saved. Then i thought why i did it? Why you mentioned vpn off and create account… What should i so? I need to sign up for family package. Please help… Assorted i leave it Australia or turkey before paying? If main account is Australia then how i will add my family members under turkey? Cant understand why sign up without VPN?

        • @zane Hi.

You mentioned that sign up Spotify with vpn off.

That's incorrect. Firstly, the title says "VPN Req" and also multiple times in the post (bolded too) it says "VPN required". If you read the instructions step by step, you will see when VPN is needed, and when it is not needed.

Step 1 says to turn it off.
Step 2 says to turn it on and leave it on while you sign up.

          • @I Smell Pennies: Make account (vpn off) in the description says, so i created account without vpn surfshark on. I turned vpn on and found the region in my account shows Australia… Shall i change to turkey?

            Please clarify. Sorry i misunderstood
            I haven't paid yet… @I Smell Pennies

            • @Zeee: Forget the region change for now. Just follow the steps. With VPN on when u go to pay is it in Turkish Lira or AUD?

              • @I Smell Pennies: I changed my account region to turkey when i created the account after turning on the vpn, before was showing Australia , then changed to turkey but lost in the confusion… and stopped right there for consultation…

And when i go to pay, it shows in turkey lira. Not aud. So all good,… ? If forget about the region then i proceed and pay in lira and one by one add other family members by changing there region to turkey.

                • @Zeee: If it shows in Lira, all good!

If forget about the region then i proceed and pay in lira and one by one add other family members by changing there region to turkey.

We'll deal with that later. For now, just sign up

  • I tried the Google Pay option but it would say the country is different to my google acc

It also said GOOGLE PLAY not PAY

When I tried to pay via Spotify it said card didnt match the country

Is there a workaround or just go with the virtual card?

    • You're asking on the wrong post. Worst case go with this post via Virtual card

      • +1

Cheers I went with the vurtual card option and followed the steps
I transferred from WISE to the Virtual Card
Maybe its due to 1st transfer but it says it will arrive July 3rd lol

Ill monitor it once its there should be fine :)

      • Dude, your website isn't working?

        • It's a dummy, but I should probably buy a domain :)

    • Make sure the account your paying through has it's payment address set as Turkey (https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings) and has working card attached.
Then make sure to remove all other Google accounts on your device (so that this account is set as default).
Then turn on VPN on Android - and go the premium section at bottom of Spotify.
Change Spotify country to Turkey - then click pay and it should go through.

I got the same message as you when I had other accounts on device and VPN off.

  • +3

Or you could just download xManager (Android fam only).

    • +2

Today I learnt about this and I am grateful.

    • It's great.

Nit pick would be that when trying to control ur phone from computer, it sometimes stop.
But still happy with that at current price 😅

  • Thanks OP. Waiting on my transfer from revoult and will subscribe. Just 3 questions out of curiosity as i know you've probably tried it.

Can we add with debit/credit cards instead next time to the turkey virtual card?

Do i need to wait for my existing to lapse? It seems it is allowing me to subscribe now and says it will renew on july 4th (my next billing date)

Will my "family" members be kicked out as soon as i change? Or will it wait until 4th july?

Thanks again. We all really appreciate these details guides and even the screenshots for confirmation!

    • +1

      Hey, no worries.

Can we add with debit/credit cards instead next time to the turkey virtual card?

I don't think so, as the payment will just decline

Do i need to wait for my existing to lapse? It seems it is allowing me to subscribe now and says it will renew on july 4th (my next billing date)

If it lets you subscribe then I guess go for it (make sure it's the Lira price)

Will my "family" members be kicked out as soon as i change? Or will it wait until 4th july?

If the family plan ends then yes they get kicked out. Otherwise not if there is a current plan active. Worst case you reinvite them back in

      • Oh okay! Thanks for that. I will let you know if i can get the subscription going if it allows. Just waiting on the transfer. How long did it take for the transfer for you?

    • +1

Just an update, transferred from Revolut to the virtual card last night. it only just got release from Revolut (received email) - still not in virutal card. i'll give it a few hours.

      • I've just completed a transfer to my virtual card today. Will advise how long it takes. I did however leave a space in the reference so i'm getting revolut to correct that, they are responsive.

        • +1

I received my funds at 4pm

          • @cheapass88: thanks. I'll let you know when mine gets in. So it took some hours?

            • +1

@jcover: Initiated transfer at 11:50pm last night, left revolut at 1:34pm today. In account at 4pm

  • +1

thanks, champion. worked a breeze due to the guide.

  • +3

god it says it will be around 3rd July by the time money gets to my the turkey mastercard……

    • +1

      I'm seeing the same…

    • +1

Seeing same here too … looks like they got OzBargain'd!

Usually it's same day (within minutes or 2 hours) or next day Turkey local time but because hundreds or thousands of OzBargainers suddenly making a transfer due to this post, they're under pressure lol

      • Public holiday in Turkey tomorrow until 1th of July. Not sure if this is the issue

    • Same! Wise is rubbish.

  • Will a Wise credit card with TL currency work?

    • It will if you are able to sign up using the Google Pay method. Spotify won't accept the Wise card directly.

  • +1

I just keep using the 3 month free options i will never pay for spotify lol

    • Especially if you use an Android, it's literally free.

      • -2

well spotify is free, you only pay for it to remove ads.
