Welcome to the ultimate guide of Spotify subscriptions!

ATTENTION 07/07/23 onwards: Please avoid transferring into OlduBil while I investigate a minor issue. OlduBil has removed Aktifbank from their list of banks, and this may cause transfer problems such as lost money. I will update an alternate bank ASAP after I finish some transfer tests. Testing is now complete, and all test transfers are successful via VakıfBank. DO NOT use Aktifbank until further notice. Please see updated instructions on the Xbox post to transfer into OlduBil. OlduBil remains the best free Virtual Turkey Mastercard provider.

Like literally every guide I've made, I spent a chunk of money out of generosity to test the current validity of this method (I tested transfers from Wise into OlduBil) as well as screenshots throughout the sign-up process (see screenshots in the instructions section). The good news? Spotify Premium is at an ALL TIME LOW! Perfect for those who couldn't sign up with the Google Pay method!

Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

Modern problems require modern solutions. Like Xbox Game Passes, Youtube, Netflix, Discord, Google One, Microsoft 365, relocating (virtually of course) to Turkey is usually the best option, with some methods saving hundreds or thousands of dollars each year added up.

The processes below are very easy, just take it slow and you'll get there! Just remember you'll be saving hundreds at the end of the day.

Turkey VPN and Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Note that due to a recent and continuing crash in the Turkish Lira currency, the TRY-AUD is hitting an all time low. All prices in this guide are current as of 26 June 2023.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. If you already have a Turkey based Virtual Mastercard, proceed with the following instructions. If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, STOP HERE and see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784047.

Turkey based Virtual Mastercard REQUIRED

Notes: The Spotify sign up pages will be in Turkish (which is easily navigatable if you have some common sense). Feel free to translate the page to English otherwise.

  1. Log in to Spotify (VPN off), or make a new account (VPN off).

  2. Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

  3. Go to the Spotify Premium plans page.

  4. Scroll down and select the plan you want. Proceed to pay with your Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard.

  5. Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

HELP POINT: Because the popup payment windown cannot be translated to English, here are screenshots of the process in the following order: (1), (2), (3)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Spotify sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I listen to Spotify?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you use Spotify Premium. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Spotify without a VPN.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Spotify account, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: Is signing up to Spotify Turkey going to affect my Spotify library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Spotify catalogue/recommendations may be weird with brand new regional music, etc… but your Spotify catalogue will adjust to what you’re listening to and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

I've managed to move the entire Australian family accounts to Turkey using Google Pay. I had a Turkey profile in my Google account from Netflix and YouTube deals.
I was able to move the organizer account to Turkey using the method in this thread without breaking up/re-inviting the family. The first payment in TR wasn't due so I just couldn't confirm whether it actually works. However, it still annoys me as I lose money for conversion and constantly monitor and top up the fund.
The key is to create another account and change the country to Turkey then the Spotify app should show Google Pay as an option. The app never show Google pay option while on the Premium plan. Then log back in using the old organizer account, and kick out one by one. Otherwise, the invitee cannot change the country to Turkey while on Premium. Then, log in using the invitee account and accept the invitation. It took only 2-3 minutes per account to do this.

  • How do you change country back to AU after being invited to a plan & changing to Turkey? It's greyed out

  • Thanks OP! You are a genius my friend! I did mine a week ago using Wise etc and everything went as smooth as silk :) Thank you once more!!

  • One of the guys on HUKD is reporting success with Disney+ and Deezer.

    • It works with everything charged in Turkey currency

      • -5

It should work with everything charged in Turkish Lira provided a Turkish telephone number isn't required, notwithstanding potential VPN issues. Let's be helpful and confirm what does work. Maybe add to your introduction what does work to give people options?

Anybody got it working with Netflix, yet? Conkers816 (HUKD) is awaiting confirmation, https://www.hotukdeals.com/discussions/the-all-new-definitiv…, before changing his introduction.

I’m sorry, are you saying I haven’t been helpful? Maybe you should do some research…

I have been continuously updating this page, spending money and doing testing, as well as answering everyone’s questions.

RE Netflix, I have already spent money and tested the methods and confirmed it works. See here.

RE Disney Plus, I have confirmed it working too however I make post has another OzBargainer has already posted making mine a duplicate.

provided a Turkish telephone number isn't required, notwithstanding potential VPN issues.

Well isn’t that obvious enough? RE VPN issues, that’s something I pointed out in every post.

I do heaps of work to ensure you guys save as much as you can. Spent countless hours, days and nights on this. If only some people could see this. I guess I can’t make everyone happy…

@I Smell Pennies: Appreciate your work ISP.
Seems like the OP from hukd used your post as well. So without your hard effort none of this would have been possible.

            • @iamtezr: Thanks so much @iamtezr 🙏🏾 It feels so good to know I have helped people (around the globe too!) and contributed to something good. Appreciate the link and comment 😊

            • +2

@iamtezr: Yes, that was me :)

I know HUKD well enough to know that many people wouldn't bother looking at Ozbargain so I thought it would be appropriate to credit @I Smell Pennies and link to the guide directly rather than trying to re-post any of it.

              • @Conkers816: Appreciate it, thank you mate @Conkers816

I need to get on other bargain sites like HUKD and see what they have going on around there :)

          • @I Smell Pennies:

I’m sorry, are you saying I haven’t been helpful? Maybe you should do some research…

I apologise, I should have written let's be more helpful, and thereby acknowledged your input to date. As to me, I'm infamous for introducing the Bluestacks method, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771897. But I'm just the messenger, I didn't invent it. Please, no plaudits, don't embarrass me!

RE Netflix, I have already spent money and tested the methods and confirmed it works.

Great, I'll pass it on to the HUKD folks with your link.

RE Disney Plus, I have confirmed it working too however I make post has another OzBargainer has already posted making mine a duplicate.

            Excellent. Thank you.

RE VPN issues, that’s something I pointed out in every post.

That's good, because there's always some poor sod who doesn't manage to get it working, no matter what. I always recommend they go to a friend's and get them to follow the instructions.

I do heaps of work to ensure you guys save as much as you can. Spent countless hours, days and nights on this. If only some people could see this. I guess I can’t make everyone happy…

I'm sure you do, like a lot of others, but they don't take a perpetual lap of honour.:) I'll be frank, the use of Oldubil was new knowledge, so thank you, but I've no need for it at the moment. I use other means to access Disney+, HBO, Vidio, F1TV, UFC Fight Pass, Setanta, Tidal, Netflix and Spotify.

Given its usefulness, I'm surprised it took so long to arrive on OzB and HUKD. Out of interest, where did you get the idea from? I see mention of it in Google from a Greek Reddit user 9 months ago.

I still think you should add to you introduction, or even better, start a new OlduBil post, listing working services bought by you or others.

            • +1

@Iangh: Hey man, all good. Sorry if I came off as agressive or anything.

Thanks for all your hard work helping many people with the Bluestacks method

That's good, because there's always some poor sod who doesn't manage to get it working, no matter what. I always recommend they go to a friend's and get them to follow the instructions.

Yeah, that's correct. There are some who can't get the methods to work, and sometimes they have a genuine issue out of their control, but in most cases just human error and failure to follow the instructions carefully. And many of their questions have been answered within the post itself, or comments section. I've done so much work making these guides and helping out in the comments, they need to do their job and put some time in reading the feedback.

I'll be frank, the use of Oldubil was new knowledge, so thank you, but I've no need for it at the moment. I use other means to access Disney+, HBO, Vidio, F1TV, UFC Fight Pass, Setanta, Tidal, Netflix and Spotify.

Ideally, you'll want to use your Australian bank card for all of these things. However, worst case scenario we use this Virtual Mastercard from OlduBil. I've so far managed to get all of my subscriptions using my Australian debit cards. The only times I had to use the OlduBil card was Microsoft, and testing of all other services.

Given its usefulness, I'm surprised it took so long to arrive on OzB and HUKD. Out of interest, where did you get the idea from? I see mention of it in Google from a Greek Reddit user 9 months ago.

Initial credit comes from @Scrooge McDeal who found out Microsoft Turkey had cheap prices and suggested I find a way to make it work. So I did. Literally Googled "free virtual turkey mastercard" and there it was. I investigated a few others but found out it doesn't work for Australians. OlduBil seems to be the only provider people could use worldwide.

I still think you should add to you introduction, or even better, start a new OlduBil post, listing working services bought by you or others.

I'll see what I can do!

  • Can this virtual card be used for steam turkey aswell?

    • Is there anyway to get past the vpn block on steam turkey?

  • Seems like revolut has sent me a refund for my transfer using the bank that's no longer accepted on oldubil

    • Hi, did you ask Revolut to reverse it?

      • no i didn't do anything. Just got a app and email to say refund was given.

        • @asian bargain hunter Once the OlduBil app finishes its maintenance, feel free to transfer again via the new bank.

    • I also got my refund this morning as well which is handy :)

  • So i have successfully received money in my Oldubil mastercard account and have signed up to family account. I want to add someone to the account. They currently have an australian premium subscription which i have cancelled for them which expires next week. Currently the country/region cannot be changed on their account. Once their subscription expires, will all i need to do is open VPN and go to turkey and then accept the invite from myself and proceed with joining? Or is there another way. It seems because they have a current subscription, i was not able to add them to my family account.

    • I explained above. Log back in using the old organizer account, and kick out one by one. Otherwise, the invitee cannot change the country to Turkey while on Premium. Then, log in using the invitee account and accept the invitation. It took only 2-3 minutes per account to do this.

  • +1

Howdy. Successfully used for Plex, Game pass and now ripping it for Spotify…. However now oldubil is inaccessible? (Thanks btw!)
Just looking to see if this is on my end or if Oldubil has pooed the bed.

*** As of 10:41pm Oldubil splash says "under maintenance", hopefully that's genuine and we aren't blocked ! ***

  • +1

Can confirm works flawlessly as of 11/7.

  • I have transferred to Aktifbank (before post updated) and it looks like I have lost my money. Anyone managed to recover that? No luck with oldubil or revolut.

  • +1

Thanks again OP, coming over from the icloud guide you posted to reap more rewards.

I have a current family premium membership, and just cancelled my current monthly schedule from my account (plan manager). I then turned on VPN and resubscribed under the new Turkish plan and changed my address to a Turkish one.

My understanding is that once my current (cancelled) Australian plan expires next month, I will be able to change my country/region in account settings (currently greyed out) to Turkey, and likewise for my family members (who also need to do this under the guise of the VPN). The family members will also be prompted to verify their address (with VPN) and input my Turkish address. Is that right?

Thanks for your time and efforts.

    • +1

Thanks mate. Good to see you saving under my guides.

The family members will also be prompted to verify their address (with VPN) and input my Turkish address. Is that right?

No no, use your Australian Address! Change your address back to your Australian! When you connect your Australian family members, they’ll enter your real address.

      • Oh I understand, will do cheers!

      • Hey mate, coming to you for your advice again.

Some of my family members on the plan received this email from Spotify about losing access. I've got our plan on a Turkish one however we're on the last few days of the Australian pricing/plan. Would the email just reflect the fact that we're on the Aussie plan?

Would I need to do anything on my end? Much appreciated, thanks!

  • +2

    Great work ISP

    You da real MVP

  • It may have already been answered.. but does the account need to remain set to 'Turkey' after signing up to premium and do any accounts that want to join a duo/family account need to be set to turkey as well for the 'joining process'?

  • +2

I can not get this to work - It did work 2 weeks ago but then I just checked my account and it went back to free account which is weird.

Not I try to join again and it keeps saying The Payment Failed :(

    • +1

Think my turkey mastercard doesnt work anymore…

      • +1

  • I got a family plan using this method and just received an email saying it has been cancelled.

    • Sounds like what mine has done. I didn't get a cancel email though.

  • how does it work? it won't take me to turkey spotify pricing…

    • Are you using a VPN as per the post?

  • I am having issues where I keep getting the error "Payment has failed" at the Spotify payment screen. My country is set to Turkey and the currency comes up as Lira.

My Olubil has funds in it and I followed the steps carefully (checked VPN and even tried with a new Spotify account).

Can you please help me with this?

    • Same here

    • +1

Can verify it just worked for me using Olubil and Windscribe VPN

      • Nice… I don't know why mine is not going through.

        • I removed all previous cards from account.

VPN on, click provided link, clicked plan, added new card with new #, CCV and Expire, subscribe..
100% had VPN, ect? Could try same steps on mobile..?

          • @Zuelly: Hmm… still having same issue with Windscribe VPN and UrbanVPN (verified with https://whatismyipaddress.com/).

Could it be an issue with Oldubil? I've loaded $30 AUD (₺500,00 LIRA) on it so ideally I would like it to work :/
            s
Not sure what else to try @I Smell Pennies any ideas please?

            Thanks

            • @sdog1: Preloaded my Old with 400~ TRY after XBOX method assuming patches were coming.. hadnt deposited since.

              • @Zuelly: My funds have already transferred into Oldubil and I can see my balance in the Oldubil app.

                Few questions:
                1. Did you sign up to Spotify premium today and everything went smoothly?
                2. Did you have an existing premium account? I let my existing premium account lapse before trying this method, however I've had no success.
                3. Did you also change your Spotify account country from Australia to Turkey?

                • @sdog1: Existing Student plan, wouldn’t let me redo Student with active sub (although would let me do Individual/Duo ect).
Wanted maximise savings so just waited for it to expire.
                  Cancelled sub and waited.
Removed all cards from account once done.
Then followed steps exactly, using a iphone and windscribe vpn app (although i don’t recommend this for other ISP methods/subs).

          • @Zuelly: Tried new accounts, 100% VPN, tried mobile and pc. Same thing every time.

  • just tried last night and wasnt able to join the family invite.
our accounts were originally created in Australia and when going into the profile of these family member accounts, the country is greyed out and cannot be changed.
looks like the only way is to create new spotify accounts in Turkey and then export/import your existing playlist with other apps.

    • On each account, log in, turn on VPN, change location to Turkey in account settings, then accept the invite again

      • +1

thats what i tried to do…the location is greyed out

        • I was having issues getting my partner on my Duo too - managed to get it working by using a VPN on the phone. Somehow didn't work when I was using the laptop (+VPN). Hope it works for you!

  • +2

@Dogfight my location was greyed out too.. it may be because your account is linked to facebook. i had to unlink it to facebook (quick google search will show you how) and then i was able to change the country

    • i will double check but my i even have a facebook account lol

  • Can you use same payment method for Turkish Apple ID?

  • Thank you OP, confirmed still working as of 17-Jul-2023.

    • Does your virtual card expired date end in a 33?

      • +2

        Yep 07/33

    • same just tried it today and all good

  • Odulbil top up commission is now increased to 9.3%

  • Such a headache to setup but considering how much money ill save definitely worth it.

  • Okay, I'm late to the party - I have signed up to OlduBil and used Wise for a transfer (now waiting for it to appear)
Noted that Vakifbank was starting to fail in the Xbox main thread, so trying via Garanti Bank

Do we need to give spotify or anyone else an actual street address in Turkey?

    • If your doing the family plan then yes.
You will need the other members to be on a vpn and join the family with the address you provided.

      • Thank you. Is there a reliable method to get a proper street address?
Otherwise was going to pick a hotel address or something like that.

        • NOOOOO @Zippy7, your address should be your real Australian one!

          • @I Smell Pennies: Ah, okay. Cool. Thought I had to give a Turkish addy with the Turkish a/c.
Great. I messed up the transfer to Garanti Bank last night - I didn't realise the name still needed to be "TURK ELEKTRONIK PARA A.S."
So I updated it and hopefully it will be transferred in about 40mins.
Going with Wise since I already had that setup.

            • @Zippy7: Update: Money gone out from Wise, but not yet received by Oldubil.
I did get a rebate of the 24TRY from Wise (maybe because I've spent money overseas recently?)

              • @Zippy7: Keep us updated. Won't be long hopefully

                • @I Smell Pennies: 8pm Sydney time, still zero balance in Oldubil.
Maybe not such a good idea to use Garanti Bank - hopefully it will be sorted by tomorrow morning.

                • +1

@I Smell Pennies: Nothing overnight from Garanti Bank.
I checked and double checked the oldubil card number and its correct.
Wise has made payment successfully, but it seems the holdup is in the middle.
It does say in the fine print it could take up to 2 business days, just disappointing nothing after a full business day.
I would recommend others on Ozb avoid Garanti Bank for now.

                  • @Zippy7: Same here mate, used Garanti Bank (and didn’t realise I shouldn’t have changed the name) and still waiting for it to show in OlduBil. Sent from Revolut 8am yesterday AU time.

                • @I Smell Pennies: Monday 4:42pm (9:42am Turkey time) - still zero balance in Oldubil.
This was a Friday transfer from Wise to Oldubil via Garanti Bank.

@I Smell Pennies - Is there a guide on what to do when the transfer doesn't appear?
Would you suggest I email Oldubil or Garanti Bank, or should I wait another day?
                  Thanks.

                  • +1

                    @Zippy7: Wait 1-2 more hours

                    • @I Smell Pennies: Hi ISP
I still have zero balance in Oldubil.
Just wondering what the next steps should be - emailing Wise first (despite the account showing the transfer was fine), or go to Oldubil with a screenshot of the transfer in Wise.

Timing is getting tighter for me as my Aussie family plan is renewing tomorrow - was hoping to have cancelled by now.
I might cancel it today anyway and test with a virtual Wise card number for 1 month charge, then swap to Oldubil when that is sorted?

As always, appreciate your guidance on this one ISP.
                      Thanks

                      • @Zippy7: @Zippy7 so sorry to hear this.

or go to Oldubil with a screenshot of the transfer in Wise.

This would be the better option! Let me know how it goes. In the meantime, maybe cancel the Aussie family plan for now.

As always, appreciate your guidance on this one ISP.
                        Thanks

Thank you mate, just trying here while being very busy myself.

                        • @I Smell Pennies: Yay! I sent an email to Oldubil with the receipt.
Now I check and the money has come through.
                          Woo hoo!

        • @Zippy7 I setup an Oldubil acct yesty and already had a WISE, with AUD in it as that's what I use for youtube/netflix subscriptions already; and I sent $30 to Oldubil last night - WISE had an alert something about payments taking 72 hours from Australia but didn't think that would apply given my money was already in wise, and I was sending in TRY but it hasn't appeared yet. I used VakıfBank.

Under WISE it still does say "sending" though:

TURK ELEKTRONIK PARA A.S. receives your TRY

Given it's not yet Monday 4:10pm in Turkey, I guess I need to keep patient ?? :)

          • @dammit: I had a similar message, but mine was for Friday 4pm/4:10pm. From a Wise perspective, the money has been sent to Garanti Bank with no issue.
However, my Oldubil balance is still zero. Therefore, I think it is a matter of Garanti Bank having to pass through/credit the money to Oldubil.
I only tried Garanti Bank because I saw someone have issues with Vakifbank via Revolut, but seems Wise doesn't have an issue with Vakifbank.
That's on me and my mistake - should've stuck with the herd.
I guess I'm posting updates here so others are informed.

What happens if I accidently forget to the put my Oldubil Virtual Turkey Mastercard number in the reference section on WISE app?

    Like this example (https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/280217/104655/9.png)

    • Email OlduBil with a screenshot of your transfer confirmation and they should be able to credit you.

      • Bro I need your help but I can't message you, I have been trying to do it but it says "payment failed" everytime.

        • me too, still haven't been able to fix it.

Just wanted to specifically thank you @I Smell Pennies for your vast efforts with this! I saw you’ve become globally famous after reference to your work on that Uk bargain forum :)

I had a wise digital & physical card already and linked to Google pay profiles for both India and Turkey - so tried my luck to sign up direct to Spotify using my surfshark vpn but unfortunately in checkout it won’t offer Google pay as an option.

I’m now working thru figuring out topping funds into
OlduBil so I can get this up and running.

    • @dammit thank you for your support!

  • Hi, i am unable to transfer from Revolut to Oldubil, it keep appear that the bank that not available. Does anyone got the same issues or maybe i could try using the revolut card bot bank transfer?
    Cheer

    • Hey @Junny7
I'm not sure if you read ISP's instructions carefully -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784047
But from your comment, it sounds like you're expecting to select Oldubil as a bank?
You have to choose an intermediary bank (Vakifbank is the one in the instructions, but you can choose another. I would not recommend Garanti Bank as mine has not made it yet) - the details you enter are your own Oldubil card number in the reference section.

  • can confirm vakifbank is no longer available to send on revolut, just tried a top up. i double checked details. wonder if revolut are blocking them or something. use
    Garanti Bankasi details:
    IBAN: TR68 0006 2001 6150 0006 2908 93
    BIC / SWIFT: TGBATRIS
ADDRESS: LEVENT NISPETIYE MAH. AYTAR, CAD. NO.2 BESIKTAS
    POSTCODE: 34340
    CITY: ISTANBUL

I'm currently making a better guide to better assist people. stay tuned

      • im wondering if the alternative of using a credit/debit intl card like a macquarie transaction card/bankwest plat zero to fund oldubill is workable instead of using revolt/wise to do exchanges and transfers

  • OK so something has changed or I am misinterpreting what needed to be done.

It wouldn't let me click on the "Family" plan on the link from the front page. I would receive a "Oh no! We're all mixed up" error page from Spotify.

What I did in the interim is:

    1. Go to my Account
    2. Under "Your Plan" I clicked "Update" to payment methods.
    3. Changed my country to Turkey.
    4. Was prompted again to change my country to Turkey.
    5. The individual offer for 29,99 TL was on offer. Would not let me change to Family without receiving an "Oh no!" error page.
    6. Entered my OldBuil mastercard. Seemed to have gone through.

I am hoping at the next billing period I can change back to a family plan.

Any suggestions as to what I could have been doing wrong?

EDIT: Just tried it again and it works now. I just purchased the Family subscription. It overrides the individual subscription as the debit period is in August.

Is there anything I have to do so other members of the family get uninterrupted access?
