@Twix: thanks all. can confirm that getting customer support to turn off CGNAT has fixed the issue.

and for all the hassle I asked if they could throw in the wifi 6 router for free ( I am on the no lock in contract) and they accepted.

after this experience, I would vote that their customer support is not great since it was the advice of the internet that fixed this problem not their customer support.

    • I had the same issue, but after changing the DNS to 1.1.1.1 and opt out CG-NAT, it's all good.

For opt out CG -NAT, you actually can do it online via Exetel, under "change my IP address".

Anyone knows where to find the CVC graphs on the new Superloop SuperHub? Under members.superloop.com it is right there on the main page (dashboard). I couldn't find it on the Superhub members page. Also the ability to "SELF HELP" is gone.. so you cannot restart the NBN port, etc anymore.

If anyone doesn't want to wait to upgrade from Superloop 1.0 to Superloop 2.0: https://upgrade.superloop.com/
I used this link a few months ago and switched over within the hour - I can't guarantee your swap will be as flawless as mine was.
Since they own Exetel, they decided just to use their system for all new signups now.

    Some things that did change:
    1. I was given a new CG-NAT IP which I was able to opt out of using the web portal immediately (now on a very sticky public IP)
    2. My price went up from $70 to $75 (they show you this before proceeding)
    3. Overall, besides the speed boosts, the web portal has less functionality than the old one. I can't seem to find any CVC graphs on the new one.

Otherwise, it's the exact same service

I should probably call retentions to see if I can get my $70pm back but I've been too lazy

    • Is it still IPoE?

I switched over to the new system in April, and it is still DHCP for me - not sure about very new customers though as I may have been grandfathered into IPoE

Thanks mate. Just checked that they only provide NBN connection and I'm with Opticomm and with their opticomm plans there is no offer to get free eero plus router on sny plan…🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
        Thanks for the info though..

  • Do you just get one of these mesh things? I would need at least 2. Using google with 2 atm

How do i confirm i have a static IP? I clicked on "Opt out of CG-NAT", and i have a public IP address now.
But is this address a static IP, or a sticky public IP? It doesn't mention any other details.

  • Been with superlooop 1000/50 for a month now on dynamic ip with deco mesh x68 2 system mesh..speed range is b/w 350-550/max 45 upload..so not a great experience from speedwise

  • Perfect time, just about to finish by 6 month tangerine discount.

    • same, just finish my 6 month with spintel too
Spintel charged me extra to be out of their CGNAT; seems superloop not. Great!

  • How is this router compared to TP Link Deco M5?

  • Looking to switch from leaptel (500/50, as 12 month deal we're on is expiring) to superloop 1000/50. Is the process straightforward? Thanks guys.

    • +1

Yes takes less than an hour

      • Great to hear, thanks mate. Did you have to notify Leaptel?

    • +1

I switched from the same plan last night and it only took 15mins

      • Thanks! How are the speeds? Did you have to notify Leaptel?

        • I did but then I got an email from them the next day confirming that they had received the curn notification from Telstra, so I think it just happens automatically

  • Can anyone recommend if this is better than Aussie Broadband?

    • It isn't at my POI, I get stuttering 4k hdr YouTube which I never got with ABB

    • All sorted now, issue was my tv's 5ghz connection

  • So, if I order the eero 6+ offer; does it mean I will be locked in for 18 months with promo price locked in for 6 months only, and the rest will increase to RRP?

    • +1

Yes, but if you want to churn they only charge a 8/mo penalty.

  • +1

    Decent offer.

Just sucks about the 30 days notice on cancellation. Means I have to be organized for the next provider churn.

  • The T&C's state this deal is only offered until end of April 2023.

  • I just signed up for the 1000/50 $99 plan and all the confirmation emails etc confirm the correct price.

Also realized afterward have only been gone from them for 10 months but order seems to have gone through fine anyway.

  • Could someone help me with this, I am getting amazing Speedtest results when I run the Speedtest within the Google Home App on a Google Nest router, close to 1000/50. But any other speed test run from my phone or Mac anywhere else on Speedtest.net only gives me around 450-550 mbit down? What gives? I can be standing on top of my router and it's the same, done a factory reset of the router also, port reset….

    No idea what to do.

    • +3

Router is wired. If the other devices are wireless, that speed difference is expected.

      • @tjhogwash Can you please elaborate so that I understand better? So yes the wired hit makes sense but such a massive drop is hard.

In my old flat I had AussieBB 250 and got 250.

Here with the same router new provider I get around 450 Mbit down unwired….

        • +1

WiFi 5 is about 200Mbps effective. Even with WiFi 6 I still only get about 400Mbps on my phone. On my PC I get about 980Mbps since it's wired.

          • +1

            @tjhogwash: Exactly this.

WiFi itself maxes out around 350-500Mbps, that's the current (real world) capability of most routers and probably more importantly the chipsets in phones and devices themselves.

        • It might be your router WI-FI speed is 450mbps in maximum. You can check the specs of your router to find out if it's the router WiFi speed limitation.

  • As someone who uses superloop's business connections at work I can safely say they have one of thr worst support ever, no idea however on their residential side.

  • Just cancelled my MoreNBN service.

The poor retentions dude sounded absolutely gutted… must be having a bad morning :(

  • Currently with ABB on 50/20 at $79/mo ($10 discount just expired). 100/20 WITH SL seems like a no brainer - am I missing anything?

  • I regret changing to SL from ABB now, I get stuttering watching 4k hdr YouTube which I never got with ABB. I'm on 1gbps, should get smooth playback even on 100mbps

    • That's wild, I'm fine on my 100/20 plan, even when watching something else… what do your speedtests say?

      • speed tests are >850mbps but that's irrelevant as that's only testing against aussie servers. My mum is on a different POI and the same 4k hdr video plays fine for her even though she's on 50mbps SL

  • We are going to get this in t he new rental house. But if the landlord had superloop just before, now we take a new connection on my name, would I qualify as a new customer?

    • +1

It should be as you'd have to register with SL for service under your name and your identity which they'd ask for some form of identity info (eg: passport #, driver's license or medicare card etc).

  • -1

This is my first negative vote, so I actually mean it and I URGE caution signing up.

TLDR: (profanity) Superloop, their support is subpar. Also, their speeds for the ~hour I had it were severely slow (290ish on the 1000 plan - on Launtel I was getting 970+ at the same time of day).

I signed up to Superloop this morning because of the deal. I constantly asked Superloop to put the connection on UNI-D port 2 as I had an existing NBN service on the property. They confirmed they would only put it on a free UNI-D port, where no other service was active. This existing service isn't in my name but my parents' name (thanks economy for making me move back home).

I get an email within an hour saying the Superloop service was active. It turned out to be on UNI-D port 1 (where the existing Optus plan was on) thus cancelling the Optus plan - an account I was not listed on, with no verification from either Superloop or Optus confirming from an authorised account holder to cancel.

I have immediately contacted Superloop and cancelled the service. They said there was a 3 day cancellation process, however after spouting some Australian consumer rights term, they canceled it immediately. I have just received an email from them advising "As per the terms of your agreement with Superloop, your account will continue to be charged for the minimum 30 day cancellation notice period from the date of your request for cancellation below."

They want to charge me for their (profanity) up. On top of this, the existing Optus account was in contract (for the modem) and now I am suspecting Optus would like that paid out for the remaining months.

    • You did agree to a 30 day cancellation period when you signed up, it was very clear.

It does suck they provisioned over the UNI-D1 port though. I had ABB do that with a previous churn a while back after also explicitly telling them not too, very annoying indeed.

Best of luck with Optus, you reckon Superloop support is inept… wait for the runaround from them.

      • I will perform a chargeback as they failed to provide the service requested both in quality and provisioning. I am sure they won't end up charging me anyway, but time will tell. Otherwise I might just go to the ACMA and make a formal complaint.

Regarding Optus customer service, I might be an outlier because I have dealt with them many times and they have been absolutely fantastic. If only Optus could improve the roll-out of their 5G network to more places.

My father, on the other hand, detests Optus customer service, so it might be luck of the draw if you get an excellent agent or an inadequate agent.

The best customer service I have ever received regarding the NBN is Launtel. It is again a shame their prices are significantly higher than the competition, but you get a quality service and support - have to pay their onshore Australian wages.

        • +1

That would be the TIO your after. ACMA is barking up the wrong tree.

Good luck with it all. I hope it all pans out smoothly in the end. Definitely a PITA caused by some idiot who can't select a checkbox properly.

      • +1

the 30 day cancellation policy is pretty crap move TBH, with ABB you can cancel anytime and they provide a prorata refund.

    • I am with SL and trying to figure out how to cancel my service, I just went on chat and they said I didn’t have to give notice. They still didn’t tell me how to actually cancel and now I don’t trust the no notice comment.

  • no 250/100 plans :-(

  • Beware… SL is hopeless.

Everytime when you're transferred to another department whether it'll be from sales to their technical team to their provision team be prepared to explain yourself and tell them about your issues all over again.

You'll be put on hold for ages and when you get disconnected it's the above all over. All the teams seems to be disconnected from each other and they don't read the notes or trails.

The annoying confirmation of name, address, date of birth including the otp is unnecessary especially when you've already identified yourself and have been transferred internally to another department. Superloops process is unreliable and clunky.

I woke up this morning and they've disconnected my interim service while my FTTP is still being provisioned. They've charged me for both ($180) in total and both my service is not working

    FTTN is down
FTTP requires more work from. NBN Co side.

Once they've submitted a bill to you they can't reverse this but only to offer a credit to you after when the bill has been paid for.

I'm currently still waiting for them to call me back to attempt and try and reconnect the service so I would have internet.

Currently tethering my phone so that I could WFH

Very frustrating and annoying experience for me.

I'd pay the little bit extra to go back to ABB once they sort out my FTTP connection.

    • Everytime when you're transferred to another department whether it'll be from sales to their technical team to their provision team be prepared to explain yourself and tell them about your issues all over again.

You'll be put on hold for ages and when you get disconnected it's the above all over. All the teams seems to be disconnected from each other and they don't read the notes or trails.

I'm with iiNet and the experience is the same. Lucky for me I rarely have to call them but the team is super nice.

  • For those currently on Superloop - I just called up and asked about transferring over to Superloop 2.0, and if I did so, could I jump on these new plans. They agreed. I was paying $89/m for 100/40, and jumped onto the new $99/m for 1000/50.

  • I'm reading Superloop prioritise traffic for speedtests hence great results, but crap real world performance from everywhere else. This is my speedtest: https://www.speedtest.net/result/14956504476.png but a 4k hdr video like https://youtu.be/nXRq-27ym9M stutters, never did when I was with ABB before yesterday. Going to do a proper test when I get home by downloading large test files off cloud servers like google drive, MS onedrive etc.

    • +1

Interesting didn't know that. My Speed tests have been great but haven't really did in-depth tested anything else. Will test out some Usenet and well seeded Torrents to confirm.

      • yes apparently newsgroups and torrents are de-prioritised to "manage cvc"

        • How would they even know you're using newsgroups through SSL? (I'm not an IT guy). I'm with Telstra FTTP and newsgroups don't always max out my connection. There has been days where I'm only getting 3-4MB/s, others over 10MB/s. Had the same issue with every other ISP I've been with, I think the issue could be with the providers, not our ISP throttling speeds.

          • @johnnytran: according to those in the know, it's accepted knowledge in the ISP industry they can.

      • Keen to hear how you go mate, haven't switched yet but it seems concerning what @FeZZa21 said.

        • +1

found my YouTube 4k hdr performance issue was my tv's 5ghz connection, changed to 2.4ghz and all good now.

I haven't tried torrents yet, won't be a deal breaker for me if it's slower since I don't use torrents much. Don't use newsgroups either.

    • Just having a think - what's your DNS set to on router or whatever device you're using to watch this content?

      • based on ISP DHCP it's showing as 119.40.106.35 and 119.40.106.36 going to try a few other DNSes too but don't think that'll speed up youtube vids?

        • I guess you could try? I'm not sure, slow YouTube videos seem like a weird problem to have with a really, really fast connection…

          I use 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare's one) - maybe give it a shot?

          • @Droz: yes going to give that and 8.8.8.8 a shot

            • @FeZZa21: did more testing and found TV nerd stats showed it was only getting 10mbps on 5ghz, changed to 2.4ghz network and got 40mbps and no more stuttering, a recent tv update must've done something to it's 5ghz wifi performance

              • @FeZZa21: Which TV do you have? I've been having issues with my LG G2 with wifi stuff

                • @Mooncakes: I've got the C1, it started to behave itself again on 5ghz

                  • @FeZZa21: If you're able to change the channels on your router, you might be able to improve 5Ghz that way? You could have too many competing radio interference unfortunately.

I can't change channels on my router, but it seems to make the right choices.

      • +1

I have my own DNS server but my upstream resolver points to Quad9.

    • I just switched to Superloop and the 4K video you linked to plays perfectly well for me without stutter.

  • does anyone know what are the transition times to move from one to service provider to superloop when you select ASAP?

    • +1

Slow for SL… the slowest ive seen yet. Days at this point.

      • +1

Hopefully not too long. I scheduled my transfer 2 days before my current month ends with my current isp so I will be annoyed if it takes over 2 days to transfer me.

    • Took mine less than an hour to activate from ABB (FTTP)

    • 15mins from Leaptel

  • ***This is a bit of a public service announcement. ***

I chose to get the modem with my sign up. This delays the service from getting activated and only get activated when the modem arrives (a couple of days??).

I am now talking to SL provisioning team who are going to activate the service before the modem arrives.

    • Yep, ordered yesterday. Order hasn't progressed at all, assume it's because I've taken the eero modem. Currently have a WiFi 6 router so would of prefered to just be cut over. Will wait and see.

      • After talk to Provisioning, they pushed my order through. However the website dashboard doesnt show this, so its still order pending until I get my modem.

    • +1

Yea, same, need to have a chat with their support team to inform them that I already have a NBN modem and got the eero to increase my wifi coverage.

As soon as they knew about this, the churn from spintel happening straight away.

  • Confusing Google Nest router speeds over WiFi and can't fix

    Hi everyone,

So in my old place I was connected via NBN box to Ethernet to the Google Nest router and got full speeds all the time on WiFi.

Now I have a faster plan in a new place and am connected via WiFi again.

I am on a new 1000/50 plan and am getting via the Google app from the internet NBN box to the router nearly full speeds, 947 mbit down and about 40 mbit up. That's fine I guess because its wired and only measuring from the NBN box to the router.

Now, being over WiFi Speedtest.net is only giving me roughly around 350-500 mbits and this is with me standing directly next to the router connected with my iPhone or MacBook, same issue.

I used the only free Ethernet port available in the Google Nest and connected via Ethernet to my Macbook Pro via the USB-C port with an adapter to USB-A and then in that an Apple Ethernet USB-A adapter and am now super confused.

All I get is 90 mbits down. What gives?
How am I getting even slower speeds (90 mbit) over an Ethernet direct connection to my Macbook, than over Wifi (450 mbit ~)

Anything I can do to get closer to 1000 mbit over Wifi?

    • +3

Given that your Macbook was limited to ~90Mbps using the ethernet adaptor suggests to me that your adaptor is only interfacing at 100Mbps or somewhere along the chain is bottlenecking such as the usb-c to usb-a. Did the adaptor have shared ports such as USB etc? Might be the reason it can only do 100Mbps.

Maybe you could try using a PC with its own ethernet port or another adaptor. As for the wifi, unfortunately, as others have already said, that speed is sometimes all you can expect in real-world performance, even if the router box says something like 1900Mbps speed.

Even for me my Samsung only tells me I'm connected at ~460mbps on my 5Ghz network.

      • +1

Hey thanks mate this was such a thorough great response! Really appreciate it and I think you’re right, could be the adapter with an adapter slowing things down.

Overall with wifi it makes sense with those speeds.

        Really appreciate your answer!

    • Getting 350-500Mbps over Wi-Fi 5 with Nest Wi-Fi is expected. The best I have seen Nest Wi-Fi do is 600-650Mbps over Wi-Fi 5. You may get faster Wi-Fi speeds with a Wi-Fi 6 router and if your Macbook has Wi-Fi 6 built-in.

  • Contrary to most of these posts, superloop has been very solid for the last year and a bit for me, always get overprovisioned speed (270 ish on a 250), and quite low ping. Only drops out like once every 1-2 months. Only complaint is the speed boost function is a bit dodgy, sometimes it breaks the connection and I have to restart all the networking stuff, but sometimes it works well. I understand its an nbn technical limitation.

  • You can opt-out of CGNAT for superloop from your account web page:

Manage > "change my IP address" (scroll down)

happens immediately but I had to reboot my HFC modem

    • I know this was a few months ago, but I just spoke with live-chat (October 31) who confirmed it is indeed possible - BUT only at a cost of $5 per month. :(

  • Any idea when this deal expires?

  • I'm regretting moving to the Superloop V2 account… I was paying $99 and asked to be moved to the $75 for the first 6 months 100/40 plan.

My previous connection was always over 100mbps/32-27mbps at any given time but ever since I took advantage of the offer my connection deteriorates big time. Even if I set my Speedtest server ID to a single location the results are the same.

Here's what it looks like now.

  • Customer service rep told me need 24 to 48 business hours to do credit check. Is / was this your experience as well? many thanks

    • I signed up around 7:45am today, got connected by 8:30am

      • My experience has been very different to this. I signed up on Weds morning and still don't have a connection more than 48 hours later.
I have FTTP and they are connecting me on a free port, so it's no big deal as I won't cancel my current provider until I'm connected anyway.
I just thought things would be much faster than this.
I contacted support on chat and they told me to wait a minute while they investigated and then just terminated the chat without responding.
So far I'm not at all impressed.
Hopefully once it's finally connected it would have been worth it to save some $s, but I'm churning from ABB and always experienced great speeds and service from them.

        • their chat is horrible he was in a hurry and giving short responses, at one point he just said "cool" to a question lol. also asked if we cancel after 6 months do we have to pay for router he said yes full price, that was incorrect coz at the bottom in FAQ it says that every month you remove 8 dollars from the router price. he did not mention that at all.

  • I wish the new customer sign up deals were for loyal members too, been saying this for years now

    • Same. Anyone managed to negotiate a similar retention discount to get to prices like the promo or better?

Looks like I will need to move over to More NBN for a while, unless Superloop comes to the party for me.

      • Never happens. The retention deal is always less then the current advertising deal. In the past with Superloop was able to negotiate 5 or 10 dollars a month.

Note Exetel which l recently left won't give negotiate a retention deal until you are off your current promotion. Aka you need to pay one month full.

Its always better to churn to another provider for the best deals.

  • Hi All,

    Hope you can assist.

Just got a new connection to Superloop 50mbps plan after coming from More NBN (HFC connection). The speeds are slow when refreshing a website and streaming YouTube. Speed test is sitting at 50mbps and Superloop said they are not able to see any issues with the line. Modem is not locked and had been restarted.

I had no issues with More NBN until switching to Superloop.

    Any help would be great.
