  • Is it that easy ?

    • +1

It was $100 few years back, and the bonus was deposited around the 55 days mark.

    • +3

technically yes, but this is the only credit card i was ever declined for, and im still unsure why, i am even an ING customer

      • +1

Did it impact your credit rating?

        • not that i know of. i got declined earlier last year then applied for an ANZ black credit card shortly after with no issues

        • Just applying for a credit card will decrease your credit rating a little.

          • @Bdawg: and only for a brief period of time

      • same

    • Yep. I got the cash no problem.

What about this store at 60 Margaret St, Sydney NSW 2000?
      https://g.co/kgs/3e1Fa6

      • I think that physical branch is for home loans only. I might be completely wrong though.

    • +1

They've been operating in Australia for decades. If they were dodgy, it would be fairly apparent by now.

  • previous posts seem to suggest this is a targeted deal?

    • Previous deal is different - it didn't have promo code to be entered. For that one, you have to receive the invitation from ING to apply to be eligible, hence targeted.

    • It isn't, just enter the code when applying.

      • Where do you enter the code?

  • -2

    Is the $200 bonus taxable?

    • +27

Only if you want it to be.

    • +2

Submit your TFN to the bank and they will report it to the ATO if they have to. AFAIK this is not income, so won’t be taxed but leave it to them.

    • Not the $200, but it says "A tax liability may arise from earnings in connection to the cash bonus" which I assume is if you earn interest off it (ie put it into an interest earning account).

    • +1

I remember I checked this. All cashback, bonus credit is just like how u get cash or gift from loyalty point, they are not taxable.

  • It was $100 in 2021 and cashback within a month after 5 taps.

Wondering it is target or open to public?

  • +2

I literally got my card today for a new low rate platinum and see this 😞

    • Wonder if people can help…
…what are the better or best Banks to sign up with or accounts to have.

I used to only have one bank, but found it better having two, for separate accounts. So I want to limit my original one, and perhaps open another 1-2 accounts.

I know the big five is CBA, Westpac, NAB, and ANZ. There are other "medium banks" like Macquarie, Bendigo, BOQ, etc etc. Then there are smaller banks and virtual ones.

I'm looking mostly for everyday accounts, and trying to do the Barefoot style. But don't want to use Savings Accounts with their miniscule returns and want to park as much into Super and Stocks. I've always wanted to open an ING but found they're much smaller than I realised, basically virtual, and are based in Dutch. Currently have NAB (primary) and ANZ (secondary).

!!! Any guidance will be mucho appreciate ¡¡¡

HSBC Everyday account with their 2% cashback debit card (for transactions less than $100) is the best physical/tap spending card ever.

You just need to deposit $2000 per month in it to be eligible for cashback for next month (you can take the 2k after 1 min of deposit out if you want)

        • Any fees etc? Very keen

          • +1

@DrDan: No fees. It's a debit card not credit card.

            • @Oztx: Thanks heaps.
Now I have my old Everyday+Saver NAB (they're the best of the Big Four). And I signed up for the HSBC Everyday Account as you suggested, it's really good for travelling. I also signed up to Macquarie Bank Transaction Account, which has the highest Savings Returns.

Looks like ING and Citibank used to be the best ones for a decent length of time, but now they're pretty average.

  • I got refused even though I’m an ING customer. Because of my temporary visa :(

    • How do you know the reason? Is it included in the letter?

      • +10

i mean, it is in the eligibility criteria:
To be eligible to apply for Orange One Low Rate, you need to:
        Be aged 18+
Earn $36,000 or more a year
Be an Australian citizen, New Zealand or Australian permanent resident

        • Thx Chivairy.

        • Thanks for the information. People who welfare (who actually need the extra cash) miss out again. Classism.

    • +1

You'll get there. Took me 7 years to be a PR, spent 4 of those years working full time for an Australian company but still missed out on many things because I wasn't a PR.

  • +1

It doesnt even let me start an application through my account "We are unable to process your request online. Please call us…."

    • Same here

  • +7

When we're considering a credit application we look at information from a number of sources.
You must be employed on a Full Time or Part Time Basis. Currently we are not accepting Self Employed applicants

For what it's worth, don't bother applying if you're self-employed

    • I was about to ask. Thank you.

  • Declined :( no easy money for me. I only applied for a 1k limit as well.

  • are there fees after the first year?

    • nah

  • Is this a good travel card, for zero forex fees? currently using the wise debit card for overseas travels.

    • It wont charge the fee if you meet the criteria of 1000 deposit and 5 settled transaction

    • I am also looking for credit card for zero forex transaction fees with free lounge. Anyone can suggest? Thanks.

      • +1

Check at CommBank for the Ultimate card

      • +1

        I use 28degrees.

  • +1

Declined dunno why. Either high home LVR or applying for credit recently with the NAB deal I'm guessing…

  • +3

Waste of time if u have excellent credit score. Declined my application for no good reason.

    • +1

Ditto, I'm not rich, but I have solid savings, small mortgage and no dependents… Still refused no reason given.

Same thing happened last time, just wanted a card to consolidate all my bills into..

    • +2

I guess if they see you are churner then would be instant declined.

  • +3

    "if you're family or a friend" :o

  • +1

I had one of these when they first came out. Was a very weird card. You can only pay to it from the Orange Everday account, and you can't put it in credit. (unless that's changed). I ended up closing it. I do recall that even then the application process was like getting blood from a stone. given I have other cards now, I am almost certain I'd get knocked back for this one now, not worth the hit on my credit score (and plus my credit scores are all locked because of the 28 degrees data breach anyway).

  • Is this targeted ?

    • +1

no. Just enter the code. We're all friends around here. You don't have to provide photos of yourself at a party with an employee or something.

      • +1

Lol thanks , just thought I check as last time something like this was targeted

  • Sorry off topic. Intend to open a savings maximiser account. Do I need to open an everyday account first then only a savings maximiser account or I can just open savings max only? Planning to apply for a credit card too. Advice appreciated.

    • +1

Their saving maximiser is only good if you link it to an everyday account, otherwise you'd get a peanuts base interest rate even if you could open it standalone.

    • +1

The process is to open an Everyday account first, then you can add the Savings account yourself.

    • There is $100 bonus if you didn't have account previously.

  • What's the minimum credit limit?

    • Just checked, it's $1k

      • Sorry, is this targeted, do you know ?

  • this trigger a soft credit enquiry?

    • +2

      Just like other CC inquiries.

  • +1

    declined application !!!

  • -1

I have this card and use it to book my flights and hotels to get free travel insurance underwritten by Allianz. You need to be approved for min 6000 limit to get that though. Really good card if you asked me. Being an ING customer, I get free international transactions both online and not, no annual fee and free travel insurance.

    • +2

Free travel insurance and 1% cashback are on a different product, Orange One Platinum card which costs $149 pa.

      • +1

True but the no annual fee card with min 6k limit also gets free travel insurance

If you apply for an Orange One Low Rate Credit Card and are approved for a credit limit of $6,000 or more, you will receive an Orange One Low Rate Platinum card with access to complimentary international travel insurance. Fees and charges are the same for both Orange One Low Rate Classic and Low Rate Platinum.

        • Fees and charges are the same

But not the annual fee? How long have you had this CC for?

          • +1

@sween64: There is no annual fee. Have had it for over 2 years

    • +1

you can get that on Bendigo Platinum Ready credit card too without the need to make 5 transactions per month, etc.

  • +4

Getting the bonus paid out on an earlier deal was like blood from stone, despite meeting reqs. I would avoid.

    • Is the free upgrade to platinum forever or just the first year? Looks like there's a $149pa fee

    • +1

      Good idea
Just got approved after only providing two payslips.
If they want my tax returns they can ask the ATO

  • Same deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762971). Got my card 26 March 23, $200 "miscellaneous credit" was deposited 3 May.

  • Where does one enter the promo code? I'm at "Submit Application" but haven't seen a field.

    • it was near the beginning 'About you' I thought,
but then I saved the application to return to it later - and when it shows the entire application at the end before you submit, the section with the promo code is gone.

I am an existing customer, so the field may be in a different spot for new customers.

      • Thanks. I'm an existing customer. Must have missed it at the start. Seems there's no way to go back to that step. I sent them a message.

        • yeah I am not going to submit this thing until I know for sure ;)
they need to improve their application

          • @bohn: Well they got back to me and said to edit the About You section to add the promo code. Well there's no way to get back to that section that I could find, so I cancelled the application and started again. The promo code box was indeed in that section.

            • @jamesvdm: yeah it's definitely there and I entered the code in that box - however, it is absent upon resuming the application. They didn't reply to my message as yet, so I may just start another

It also isn't there when I edit the about you section.

            • @jamesvdm: where do you cancel it?

              • @bohn: Also would like to know how to cancel the application and start again….

                • @tabboy: I messaged them and they told me just to edit the section or start a new application. I replied that the edit wasn't available (and included a screenshot) and asked them to cancel the application for me.

                  But they never bothered responding.

    • Yes, it is on the first page of the application process. I'm an existing ING customer and the promo code box appeared just above the "I've read the Privacy Notice" button and check boxes.

  • +2

    what a s**t card application - declined for $2k
I have a everyday account as well so they can see my income coming in
first time I've ever been declined for a cc.

    • +5

reading these comments its my experience last time i tried. im not wasting time with ING anymore, also the only one that ever declined me

      • +1

Same here, first time ever got a rejection from a cc application :(

  • can you pay the credit card off via direct debit from another financial institution (i.e. ANZ?)

  • I just realised I locked down my credit report with credit savvy after Optus and Medibank doxxed all and sundry.
Wondering if it is worth the hassle though, as I am not sure how long it takes to unlock it.
From what others have said I could do all this and then just get declined after requesting a low limit.

    • +1

From memory, i think could take a week. They would tell you when you requested to unlock.

CC applications would be instant rejection when credit report is locked.

    • How do you lock it? I don’t believe I was part of any breach but I don’t intend on applying for any cc’s or changing my mortgage any time soon. I regrettably submitted a photo of my license to a crypto exchange for KYC I’m not sure how far someone can go if that is leaked

      • +1

I just followed Scott Pape's advice, via the credit savvy app (I think it is just their web app) and then requested a credit ban, then extended it to a year after one month.
The app just shows your "credit score" whatever that is, but I only used it to ban myself from applying for credit due to Optus and Medibank doxxing me.

That said, even though the credit score is great or whatever does not seem to have any bearing on being approved by ING for this promo.
To me, it does not seem worth the risk.

    • +1

Credit Savvy uses Experian Bureau, which I don't believe ING uses. So your file ban shouldn't affect the ING application.
