[Pre Order] $250 GC + $300 Trade in Coupon with Google Pixel 8, $350 GC + $300 Trade in Coupon with Pixel 8 Pro @ JB Hi-Fi

1260

JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will be sent out two weeks after order is placed online or will be available when collecting the device for in-store orders. Offer ends 12 October 2023.

$300 bonus discount coupon applies to Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro order when you trade in an eligible device via SquareTrade by 25 October 2023. This is in addition to the credit for your trade-in device.

For example, if you were to trade in a device with a trade-in credit value of $1:

  • Pixel 8 128GB $1,199 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $898 upfront. You then receive a $250 Gift Card effectively making it $648 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card).
  • Pixel 8 Pro 128GB $1,699 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $1,398 upfront. You then receive a $350 Gift Card effectively making it $1,048 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card).

May be a more worthwhile deal compared to the $250 Pixel 8/$400 Pixel 8 Pro bonus credit offer via Google Store, if you have an eligible device to trade in.

There's also a bonus JB Hi-Fi Gift Card offer if you pre-order both Pixel and Pixel Watch 2 devices in the same transaction:
- Pixel 8 + Pixel Watch 2 from $1,748 = $450 Gift Card
- Pixel 8 Pro + Pixel Watch 2 from $2,248 = $550 Gift Card

      • Huh…the P8 snappier that a S23 Ultra. Care to share more info about this. I would think the S23 is much better than P8?

        • +1

I would think the S23 is much better than P8?

          Why? Samsung's UI sucks balls

  • I got a samsung s22 ultra, is it an upgrade or downgrade for this?

    • +3

Upgrade in camera, downgrade in everything else.

      • +10

Arguably upgrade in software too, all the Samsung bloat is pretty irritating

        • Yeah, it probably has all the latest Android 14 and Pixel features, but some suggest Pixel software if buggy. I personally had no issues both with Pixel or Samsung Sw.

          • @aveeno bb: Same here. I've been using the 7 Pro since release. I have had 0 issues with Pixel software. It does lack some customization features that Samsung software has (e.g. advanced lockscreen customisation). But it's been very solid for me.

        • You can always root a samsung and install a custom rom ;)

          • @urahara: I often find the custom roms that make it almost a pixel phone then bork the Samsung exclusive features. So you get a Samsung phone that doesn't do either exclusive features 100%.

    • I have the same phone as you. It not really an upgrade. You lose 10x zoom len, one UI feature packed customization, s-pen functoonality and wireless dex.

On the Google store you can get 10% off with Student Beans. Another tip is to purchase a top tier of Google One to get 10% of the purchase in store credit.

Student beans can be gotten if you have a child in school (or pester someone on the forums for one)

      • +1

Literally just used it, it's available.

      • +1

not at all, I just used it 5 minutes ago.

      • +1

Yes, what others said - used it on my order

        • +1

I must've been banned from the student beans Google code as it doesn't come up on my student beans account when I search for Google. Gave a few to friends last year. How weird. Apologies for the misinformation on my end.

    • Does the Google One tip only work for purchases from the Google store?

      • Yes of course

    • Does it stack

  • +1

    Pixel 8 Pro 128gb $1699
    6 pro trade+bonus - $550 = $1199
Pay with 2 ultimate cards from the 15% off sale save 150 = $1049
    $350 gift card after purchase - $699.

Still not sure if I should.

    • +2

      Lol. Exactly my boat.

Somehow USD$100 increase means AUD$400 increase in price. I know AUDs fallen but geez

      • I know AUDs fallen but geez

Right now at VISA's currency exchange rate US$999 = AU$1621, so the current RRP (including GST) is not too far off the actual USD value (don't know how taxes apply to the US price).

        • I believe in USA they advertise the price without GST/VAT as every state has different rate. So USA price is equivalent to AUD$1621x1.1=AUD1,783 so it is actually cheaper here than USA price.

    • Where can I get the 15% ultimate cards offer? I didn't see any offers on their store.

    • didn't think of the 15% off damn

  • I doubt my S7 Edge is accepted for trade in. Or is it?

@matt-ozb: Can't decide if I should finally upgrade from my 4a (love the small size).

How soon can we have the phone? Might be able to claim TRS as I fly out in 2 weeks time.

            • @ddhar: The size is getting close to the 4a, but still much heavier 187 vs 143gm. 10gm lighter than the P7 which felt really heavy.
I'm inclined to wait and see if the 8a is similar size but lighter. Will probably be disappointed.

            • @ddhar: I'm the same. Got a Pixel 5 and absolutely love the small size too. The standard Pixel 8 is slightly bigger than the 5 but way heavier.

On a different note, is it possible to use the GV towards the new phone if you do the trade in? Cheers

  • +3

The iphone 13 pro max was for 975 yesterday, today only worth 800. very strange timing..

  • +1

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803565 mmmm looks like a way to get the pro for $828 outright, without trading in my existing phone <- tempting but needs to muck around with signing up for a contract then cancelling.

    • I did this with the S23 Ultra, it was very little work to cancel.

  • Anyone know how the instant (in store) trade in work with a pre-order? I want to know if there is any way I can keep my current phone until I get the new one, but still get the trade in credits applied to the pre-order. For example can I place the pre-order in store with the trade in credits but keep the phone until I pick up the new one ?

    • +2

Code is instant and they usually ask for device to be shipped in 7 days correction…14 days. One could email them though asking for delay if needed.

      • +2

Actually I emailed squaretradeup earlier this morning, they replied:

As part of the Pixel 8 launch, we are allowing you 28 days to send in your device(s).

        So even better !

    • If pre-order, then JB SquareTrade give you extra time to post.

  • +1

Anyone know how these deals work with Tourist Refund Scheme? Do I get back using the full amount or just the amount paid?

    • +1

      Amount paid as per invoice

It is likely your invoice will show all the credits you applied with the final number of what you actually paid (not the RRP)

  • I haven't used JB's SquareTrade before…how do you get the $300 voucher? I have an old Pixel 4A and the SQTU site says it's worth $1, but that should be eligible for the extra $300 voucher to use to lower the price in the JB cart on a Pixel 8 yeah?

    • +2

You will do the trade in online and will get the trade in voucher and phone value in an email straight away. You are then given 2 weeks to send in your phone via post.

      • Cheers, i'll give it a try. My daughter was using the 4A after busting her old phone and then she busted it, so it won't even turn on. Thankfully the IMEI is written on the SIM card slot though, and the SQ site isn't asking if the 4A will turn on, it just defaults straight to $1 trade in.

  • The banner on JB site says 'extra' $300 off, 'on top of your trade in credit'.

Q1 - If I trade in my Pixel 6 Pro, I get $300 trade in credit, an extra $300 on top of that credit, and a $250 voucher?

Q2 - If you have an older phone that isn't on the trade in list, you don't qualify for trade in therefore can't access the 'extra $300'? (only get the $250 voucher)

    • Where did you see this? Couldn't find it anywhere on their website.

      • It is listed on the pixel 8 product page

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/mobile-phones/google-p…

      • Hit the deal link above.
It's in a 4 panel scrolling banner across the top of the page.

        • I only see 2 panel, what is the other 2?

          • @CodeXD: First two a 8 Pro and then 8.
Next two are 8 Pro with watch then 8 with watch.

      • @itsmos: The offers/promos are visible and can be clicked on by selecting the device that you want to pre order. You will then see "DON'T MISS OUT ON THESE!" below. There are two offers there i.e. the Bonus and the Trade-in.

        • The OP's comment is just confusing. I know there is a $300 credit when you trade it but the OP was implying that there is a $300 discount + the trade in $300.

    • 6 Pro is 250 trade + 300 coupon.
Purchasing the Pixel 8 gets you a $250 voucher.

      • Yeah sorry, it's $300 for the 256.

But yeah, you also don't get the $300 coupon unless you have an eligible phone on their list right? As in, and old old phone won't cut it.

        • Yep, eligible device is anything that appears on that site for trade in.

        • +3

Yes, however, you can get the $300 coupon and not trade in your phone. Just don't use the $300 trade in code and tell them you changed your mind and you can sell it elsewhere, they will remove the credit on the trade in code with no further charge to you. That's what I did to get Pixel 7 a few weeks ago.

I'm not sure if you can then re-use the same IMEI for trade in again though.

          • @CodeXD: Ha! nice.

          • @CodeXD: Just to clarify, you still keep the $300 coupon if you then tell them you're no longer trading your old phone in?

            • +1

@ricky56789: Yep. I did all the trade in stuff to get both trade in value gift card and the bonus code. I made the purchase with only bonus code and then emailed them saying I changed my mind. They just deducted the trade in value from the gift card and that was it.

              • @CodeXD: Did you end up pulling the trigger too on a P8?

So your out of pocket was $1199 - $300 = $899, not $524 ($375 phone trade in value)?
Just checking as i got a $375 charge on my card as well SquareTrade, so does this get credited again once I send the phone in?

Looks like p7 128gb sell for $450-$500 on ebay, so may only make $100 profit max after fees. I think $375 is alright. Not sure who paid $769 for one just sold lol.

                https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=pixel+7+128gb&_sacat…

                • @G-rig: Didn't get the P8, waiting on a better deal as I want to keep the P7.

                  • @CodeXD: True, nothing really wrong with it hey.. the p8 is a bit smaller so that will be nice.
I usually skip the even numbers, mine doesn't really owe me anything and a new tax invoice is handy.

They are cheap enough (after discounts/GC's and price drops in next 12 months 28d card), compared to Samsungs and iphones for $1800-2300.

    • I see this is a dupe of an earlier comment really.
Guess it wasn't immediately clear to me from Op whether this was a blanket $300 'trade in' deal or not.
The '+ $1 trade-in credit' part threw me off - so it's actually much better than how I first read it!

    • Q1 - Correct. I just sent my P6P after I received my $300 credit from Square Up. 5 mins later, they sent me the additional $300 off RRP discount code. I pre-ordered the P8, and only paid $600 cash out of pocket ($1,200 RRP - $300 discount code - $300 square trade credit). Once the $250 pre order voucher arrives (T&Cs say it will arrive up to 2 weeks after pre order processing), then ultimately my final value is $1,200 Pixel, for $350.

Q2 - I believe you still can, but you can only use the discount code on a P8/P8P i.e. you can trade in a Samsung for $200, and still get the $300 discount code, but the code must be used on a P8/P8P. But probs best to triple check this with JB/Square Up first.

  • Awesome my wife and I are both using a pixel 6 still so both looking to upgrade and we both want a watch so my plan is to trade or 6's in to take $500 off cost of pixel 8 pre order a pixel 2 watch with one of them so we will have a $250 gc and a $450 gc when the gift cards arrive we get the 2nd pixel watch free.

I could pre order both pixel watches and have an extra $200 worth of gift cards I guess but then I'll just be lured into the shop to buy something I don't want haha

  • Weird question - has anyone know if there are display phones instore to play around with? Having trouble deciding between the 8 and 8 pro, mostly due to size.

    • +2

Maybe just compare the pixel 7 and pixel 7 pro
Close enough to give you a feel of the difference

      • +1

The standard 8 is a tad smaller than the standard 7. Also the 8 Pro is flat screen in comparison to the 7 Pro.

But realistically should be quite similar so yeh, sus out the 7 and 7 Pro.

  • I have just traded in my pixel 7 (bought last year with pre order deal) for a new pixel 7 with $50 extra with last jb trade in deal… glad to see this pixel 8 pre order deal is not as good as last year haha

    • Wait… Can you tell me more? As in you traded your old pixel 7 for new pixel 7? Did this cost you 50 or did you get 50 by doing this?

      • +1

I paid 50. Pretty much I got a new device (100% battery health) with 1 year warranty
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/799402

        • Lot of stuffing around plus had to pay.
Probably wishing you got a pixel 8 preorder now.

I'm tempted for tax reasons but nothing wrong with my p7 and battery health is totally fine after one year (adaptive charging is great).

The p7 owes me nothing, hmm.
The p8 being a bit smaller sounds nice (although.2mm thicker), the extra battery would get eaten up by the slightly better more hungry processor.

  • Dont have much idea on these deals if you can cancel early etc like the Optus HN deal but JB are offering $1000 off any Pixel 8 or 8 Pro phone with the $69 JB plan plus extra $300 off on top of your trade in credit.

  • Wait what……….!

I misunderstood all this last night when I checked this out.
    Let me clarify this again

"Pixel 8 Pro 128GB $1,699 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $1,398 upfront. You then receive a $350 Gift Card effectively making it $1,048 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card)."

    People have crunched the numbers?
I thought it was JUST the $350? If it's a total of $650 bonus, that's not bad.
Could I pay, the remaining $1048 with JB Hifi Gift cards (which I already have!) ?

    • Could I pay, the remaining $1048 with JB Hifi Gift cards (which I already have!) ?

As in with your existing gift card? or you already received the $350 gift card from purchase? Sounds like they may have messed up if they already sent you the gift card!

Pre-order today and we'll email your bonus Gift Card within the next 2 weeks of order completion. Pre-ordering in-store? Your gift card will be given at the time of order completion.

      • No no, I literally have over 1k$ of JB Gift cards already, I don't mind if I get a $350 one later on (or $300 whichever one)

I am not seeing the $350 stacking with $300 on the page though?
I see at the bottom of every Pixel 8, it says "Bonus $300 coupon with trade in" sure but where's the $350?

        • +1

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying.

The $350 is only on the pro, $250 on base model.

It shows on product page under DON'T MISS OUT ON THESE!

          • @CodeXD: Ok so the front page of JBHifi for PRE-Orders does show a $350 Gift Card for pre-ordering AND the $300 bonus trade in value listed on the same single page.
            https://i.imgur.com/bTMNS1u.png

So that does seem positive! (thank you!)

So that would be, for me:
            $1799 256GB model
$300 off with coupon bonus trade in
$280 off with wifes old iPhone 11

Would I be right in thinking though, the $280 from old phone trade in, comes later? So I actually owe
$1499 at the register after coupon right?

Does anyone know if JB Hifi will let me use 3x$500 gift cards, to pay the $1499?
(I already have those gift cards)

I would then, later on get $280 for phone and the $350 gift card to put back into my 'gift card bank' I've built up.
            This sound right?

            • +1

@hamwhisperer: When you do the phone trade in, you will get a gift card with $280 so you can use it for the same order.

              Yes, $350 will come later.

If you are buying multiple Pixel 8s I would recommend you buy one first, then use the $350 from first phone to partially pay for second phone.

              • @CodeXD: Would they need the phone to arrive before I get the $280 or can I hand the phone to JB? (I thought I mail it to squaretrade?)

                P.S thanks again, very helpful.

                • +1

@hamwhisperer: Nope, the $280 is instant gift card to you via email.

You will need to mail them the phone within 7 days you receiving the new phone.

There is FAQ on their website

                  https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au/faqs

                  • @CodeXD: So I guess final question is, does JB Accept me giving them

                    $300 coupon
                    $280 gift card
                    $500 gift card
                    $500 gift card
                    $219 (off) a $500 gift card?

I suspect so! ? but you know, best be sure.

                    Legend stuff if so man!

                    • +1

@hamwhisperer: Yep, JB will accept your payment with mix of 1 coupon and 4 gift cards

I just checked the FAQ and it states:

how long do I have to send in my device
Once your order is confirmed, you have 7 days* to send your device(s) to us to complete your trade-in order and upto 20 days for us to receive into our warehouse.

Not sure if this is the same for pre-order since you won't get the phone until release date. Plus, they need to grant you some time with both phones to transfer stuff over. This is something you might need to email them about.

                      • @CodeXD: Well this sounds like a goer then! Thanks @CodeXD !

I suspect my total out of pocket cost to be around $720 -> $800 (it's hard to wrap my head around which money is being used at which point, with 10% off)
                        Like really hard!

Ultimately the phone is only $1149 after the $300 and $350 which is 'free'

Trade in looks like they're giving me approximately $70 under what I could get for it (easily) on Gumtree but also saving me dealing with Gumtree.
                        I'll call it a draw.

Then $1149 I have to eat into my gift cards, looks like $1034.1 'real' out of pocket I reckon.

P.S if I make a pre-order, now is that ok BEFORE initiating the trade in? The phone for trade in is at home, can't look up IMEI till tonight, like to pre-order now.
I take it they just give me a coupon eventually, which is applicable to any Pixel purchase? I don't need to 'tie' the pre-order to the trade in, in any way?

                      • @CodeXD: they extended the time you need to send through your device by 28 days

  • I'm still pinching myself a bit here. Traded a non-working Pixel 4A (thankfully the IMEI is on the SIM card holder) that I was about to dump in the recycle bin at OW for a total of $301 off the price of a Pixel 8 and a $250 JB gift card.

Sorry if it's a dumb question….I get why the 4A is only worth $1 as a trade…but why does JB/SquareTradeUp give me the $300 off on top of the $250 gift card?

    • +1

You are essentially stacking 2 different deals here:

      1. Bonus $300 coupon for eligible trade in for Pixel 8 range
      2. Pre-order Pixel 8 and receive $250 JB Gift Card
      • Understood, cheers. Just curious as to why they'd offer the Bonus $300 coupon for eligible trade-in's, especially for something as ancient as a Pixel 4A.

        • +1

I assume they have some subsidy program for e-waste recycling and get some type of benefit if they meet 'x' quota of older devices.

(Or they realllyyy care about the environment and want to ensure it doesn't end up in landfill and would rather save you some money and save landfill……… Yeah don't bet on this)

  • Does anyone know if you can use the trade in COUPON code after this part of transaction?

    https://i.imgur.com/WRhOM4j.png

I want to stack the $350 and the $300 but I can't organise the $300 coupon bonus trade in, until tonight (the spare phone, with IMEI is at home, not with me now)

    • Do they require you to provide the IMEI when trading? I have Samsung S10 that was bought from overseas and not sure if the IMEI would be acceptable?
EDIT: I just checked and it is fine, worth $5

    • Not only do I not know if I can apply my coupon code later, it also looks like it's asking to bill the full $1799 on my credit card?

      https://i.imgur.com/LHS9Tkz.png

What will happen? I want to pay with gift cards, coupons, more gift cards and even more gift cards :/

      • +1

You need to enter the gift cards (left side) and coupon (right side) on that page to reduce the final value.

Since you haven't added any, it is asking for the full $1799.

You cannot add coupon after that page.

        • No I realise that but I want to PRE-ORDER the phone (Reserve it) for pickup on launch day?
I am surprised they want the full $1799 already? I'd expect it's more of a "put down $100 now" thing.

If I'm interpreting your reply correctly, what I need to do is.
          Wait till I go home.
Initiate a trade in with squaretrade, get my coupon code and gift card

Pre-Order the phone with JB-Hifi and enter the coupon code AT TIME of order.
Enter the gift card (trade in value) right then at time of order.
Use my existing gift cards I already have to finish paying for the order.

          Yeah?
(Also doesn't JB Hifi Website only have a maximum of 2 GC per online web order?)

Dude, thanks for dealing with me.

            @hamwhisperer:

            How do pre-orders work?
Pre-orders allow you to pay for an item you want ahead of its release day.

You can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards in one transaction on the JB Hi-Fi website.

            • @CodeXD: Ok made, you've helped so much. Sounds like I need a little patience, wait till I get home and initiate a trade in and then process it all when I'm at home.

I guess I'll be closer to the back of the line but I'll live.

@hamwhisperer: Yep, that's the best way. Make sure you have all the coupons and gift cards before proceeding with the order.

I went through the same thing a few weeks back to get the Pixel 7 so still very fresh in my mind haha
