[Pre Order] $250 GC + $300 Trade in Coupon with Google Pixel 8, $350 GC + $300 Trade in Coupon with Pixel 8 Pro @ JB Hi-Fi

1260

JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will be sent out two weeks after order is placed online or will be available when collecting the device for in-store orders. Offer ends 12 October 2023.

$300 bonus discount coupon applies to Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro order when you trade in an eligible device via SquareTrade by 25 October 2023. This is in addition to the credit for your trade-in device.

For example, if you were to trade in a device with a trade-in credit value of $1:

  • Pixel 8 128GB $1,199 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $898 upfront. You then receive a $250 Gift Card effectively making it $648 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card).
  • Pixel 8 Pro 128GB $1,699 - ($300 bonus coupon + $1 trade-in credit) = $1,398 upfront. You then receive a $350 Gift Card effectively making it $1,048 (depending on what you do with the Gift Card).

May be a more worthwhile deal compared to the $250 Pixel 8/$400 Pixel 8 Pro bonus credit offer via Google Store, if you have an eligible device to trade in.

There's also a bonus JB Hi-Fi Gift Card offer if you pre-order both Pixel and Pixel Watch 2 devices in the same transaction:
- Pixel 8 + Pixel Watch 2 from $1,748 = $450 Gift Card
- Pixel 8 Pro + Pixel Watch 2 from $2,248 = $550 Gift Card

for 360 + bonus 300( to trade in) then 300 then 200 bonus then 250 gift card

      What?

    • +1

Sums up Australia's education system. People cant even calculate 2 x 5 these days. Lol.

      • +3

        25!

        • +8

          25!=1.551121e+25

        • +2

          Not at all. Duh

          2 X 5s is clearly 55

  • +22

Gift card is issued well after receiving the phone, I don't see how you would count this as a reduction in price.

    • +1

      Noted. Deal updated for clarification.

    • +11

Absolutely mate. Actually, if you return the watch and the phone together, they have to refund you all your money and you get to keep the gift card.
Do that several thousand times and you can purchase the entire JB Hi Fi inventory using just your free gift cards.

      • -3

        Is this for real?

      • Can that actually be done? Seems a bit dodgy and too good to be true, wouldn't they cancel the gift card if you returned the phone and watch??

If so, it would be great to repurchase the phone and put the gift card towards it!

    • +3

Why don't you just steal one from the store? I think it's less shameful than this offer.

  • +7

The last pre-order deal was much better, and the pixel 128g Was $200 cheaper.
($999 - $300 off, $100 JB voucher, free Nest Hub Gen2 + Free CCwGTV, up to $300 trade in voucher).

Agree, I wouldn't consider the gift card a price reduction as you can't use it to buy the phone (but would have to look for something else to buy you probably don't need). Noted that the new deal offers trade still.

Seems like a very similar phone to me, paying for new colours:

ps. Op the link doesn't work

    • New Tensor 3 chip is what you're paying for.

      • Oh yeah, that seems to be the only real difference. Not sure how G3 vs G2 compares yet.

        • +6

G2 is pretty bad for efficiency and was a bit slow compared to other chips already. So surely the G3 is more competitive.

Battery life needs to be improved alot on the Pixels at the very least.

          • +1

@Circly: Yeah no doubt a better CPU, not sure how much this translates in real world use. Can't say the Pixel 7 is sluggish or anything and still happy with the performance. 4,485 mAh vs 4,355 mAh isn't much to worry about. Depends how much you use your phone, standby can get 1.5-2 days, but these days should be expecting to charge a phone once a day.

          • -2

@Circly: Coming from Google, I'm sure the G3 is just as bad. Hopefully the chip have powerful enough AI and power for Google to feature face unlock on their phones.

This time next year, we'll be commenting on how bad G3 was.

            • +2

@fuzor: Will we? Given we have no idea on performance at the moment. How would anyone know?

            • +2

@fuzor: Maybe I'm misreading your post, but my Pixel 7 has face unlock and it works well.

          • @Circly: competitive, that's a strong word, if its competing against the iphone 12 it still looses

            • +1

              @Roe Jogan:

if its competing against the iphone 12 it still looses

              iPhones are tight!

      • g3 is %20 slower than a14 chip from iphone 12 lol

Apple is the leader when it comes to mobile phone chips, they even have faster multicore while using only 6 cores, but people buy the pixel for low software bloat Android, and 'flagship' camera at a mid price. Unfortunately it seems Google want to price themselves out of competition, at $1200-1700 there's a lot of other options on the market well worth considering, and you can get close to stock Android on a budget with a Motorola, if you don't need the best cameras.

          • +1

@TekniqAU: I wonder why Motorola software support is so slow and not for very long?

One thing the new pixel 8 is offering 7 years of software support. There’s not too many options offering long software support? Keeping your phone longer can translate to better value in the long run

            • @Ronnnie: That certainly is a downside to Motorola, and unfortunately lots of Android phones. Personally I've always gone the custom rom route after official support ended with my Android phones, but I know it's not for everyone. It's good to see Google meeting Apple on the updates, it's been a solid reason for me to consider iPhone over Android in the past, and it seems that Google, Samsung, and Apple now have long-term support for software updates on their phones.

        • Google should have their full inhouse chip in 2025….I might hold off upgrading to another Pixel at least until then.

          • @Trishool: yeh who knows by than hopefully it could beat the a14 chip

            • +2

@Roe Jogan: The thing is that Google doesnt want us to focus on the speed of their chips, just like Apple doesnt want us to focus on the specs of their phones. They both just want users to know the improvements they're delivering with the new phones and the benefits to consumers. I can tell you that I used a Nexus 6P for 6 years before upgrading to the Pixel 7 Pro and the Nexus could still do 90% of everything I wanted it to, including keeping open 100+ tabs in Brave, playing most games, opening Word, Excel, and PDF files, running split screen, YouTube, WhatsApp, Amazon, eBay etc without a hiccup even going weeks without a restart. So Im of the opinion that YoY performance of new chips really isnt that much of a deal if your OS and the apps are optimised for the hardware, and most people just wont be able to tell the difference. If anything, Apples chips are overkill for what most people use their phones for.

              • @Trishool: true and false, for example if you are big on mobile gaming the old phone cant handle it, specially console ports, and specially cameras and video recording which is arguably why most people keep upgrading

                • @Roe Jogan: I dont disagree with the mobile gaming bit, but honestly with all the people I know in my personal and professional life……….no one is a serious gamer that they'd require ray tracing or serious performance. That might just be my group, but I feel if you're a serious mobile gamer, just go Apple.

                  • @Trishool: im not a gamer, just pointing out the short coming of android specially an older model, also you forgot the camera. if you want the best camera available on a mobile phone every year.. keeping an older model becomes less appealing

                    • @Roe Jogan: I disagree with the camera thing based on my experience having used a Nexus 6P and my wife in that time having upgraded her phone twice to the newest Samsung at the time (S9+ and most recently 2 years ago was the S21+). We would take pictures at events and side by side my photos would be much better, even though she had a phone with a newer camera and better screen. And we'd both agree that the photos from my Nexus would turn out better than hers. Whether that comes down to the hardware and software of the Nexus or my ability to take better photos is debatable. Ultimately even the newer camera features shouldn't be enough reason to upgrade. If you're that serious about your photos, you'd carry around a proper camera, otherwise 99% of the time, last years camera (or even ones that are a few years old) would suffice without issue.

                      • @Trishool: that's your personal opinion, my info comes from numerous professional tech reviewers and videographers who say that the iphone has no competition when it comes to videography and neck and neck (slightly edging out the best that android can offer very year ie. s23 ultra) when it comes to still photography. and specially wins out by a long shot in night photography.

there has been a few youtube videos i watched where professional photographers and videographers have said that the iphone 15 pro max is so good that now they can confidently not carry around their DSLR's anymore because the difference is so minimal that's its not worth it

                        • +1

                          @Roe Jogan:

                          that's your personal opinion

                          That's my experience.

                      • +1

@Trishool: For me, the big difference coming from an older phone to the Pixel 7 Pro was the dedicated 5x zoom sensor and lens, with optical stabilisation.

It's amazing because you can capture photos like you are up close, even when standing quite far back. I get awesome pics at events that would not be possible otherwise, or would be unusably low res if using only digital zoom.

        • Doesn't mean much. Google is a (advertisement) software company and Apple a hardware. The things Google can do with "slower" hardware compare to Apple is impressive.

          • @jazzza: ahhhh apple is not a software company? lol

            • @Roe Jogan: Yes Apple is a hardware company that makes software as well. Google is a software company who also makes hardware.

              • @jazzza: apple makes better software than google. and better hardware, the numbers speak for themselves

                • @Roe Jogan: There is no doubt that iPhones are better hardware and software (device design, simplicity, no virus protection required etc) but you pay a high premium for it and depends if you want to be in the apple ecosystem or not (I don't want to be, but maybe one day if it's just easier).

    • +1

Let me know what you need to complete your time machine.

    • I can't find the trade in option on the JB hi-fi website. Or you have to take the phone in in person?

    • Come on bro, its a much better phone. And i have an iphone

  • +1

Worth trying to price match with Officeworks for another $100 off?

    Officeworks pixel 8 pro = $1597

    • Always worth a try. I'll be doing that later this morning. IMO it should work since the advertised price is lower.

    • Officeworks don’t price match pre orders

      • +1

may as well spend 1800-2200 for a Samsung

        Lol, I wouldn't pay $50 for that junk…

      • +1

        Why would you do that?

    • Tried this on online chat - JB said they won't price match pre-orders.

      • Looks like OW changed their price anyway. Now seeing the same prices as JB.

        • Looks like OW are only offering a $200 gift card with the P8, whereas almost everyone else is $250. They may update that soon enough.

    • $100 price drop already? phone's not even out yet!

  • +21

Seems like a terrible price for the phone hopefully the promos get better.

    • Yeah, I'm probably not willing to spend more than $1200 at most.

      Bit deflating

  • My SquareTrade account is locked from not posting in a phone from prior trade-in.

Any ideas? I have emailed and no response yet.

    • +7

Moral of story (for others): If you are not going to send in old device, email them letting them know as a matter of courtesy. They will cancel it and you then don't end up with blocked account.

For now, you are on the naughty list and may just have to wait for them to get back to you.

      • Is this actually kosher? are you allowed to not send and just pay them back the amount?

  • +1

Where is the square trade up deal listed? I can't see it

    • +3

On the product page .. swipe right in promo coupons

      • Ahh thanks, was looking at the SquareTradeUp site and they only have the Samsung deal listed

      • If you still can't see it, turn off ad-blockers.

  • +14

I knew they were increasing the pricing for the pixel 8 but I wasn't expecting this. Seems excessive compared to last year's model. For me, throwing in a gift card doesn't make this more appealing either

    • +1

I'm not saying it's reasonable to spend more money on a phone than on a notebook or an international flight, but $648 is actually dirt cheap for a flagship phone.

      • +4

If you see value of the gift card; absolutely!
I don't think JB gift cards expire so as long as people keep that safe, use it for next year's phone if that's their thing

As someone mentioned I could sell it but I'd rather not create hassle for myself but that's just me.

I'll still consider it at 898 because at it's RRP it's a no from me

    • +3

Agreed, they are almost the same phone and don't see where the extra $200 asking price is spent. Ok very slightly bigger battery and more Watts on the charger, splitting hairs a bit.

I'd rather see $300 off the price instantly like last time which was a great deal, took a long while for them to become discounted to that again (around 10-12 months).

I guess you could try and sell the gift card for $50 less.

I'll wait for the pixel 9 before 'upgrading'. I skip every second one :).

      • Tensor G3 over the sluggish G2 but I agree pretty disappointed with pricing.

        • +3

Not even a new fingerprint sensor!!! I've had my p7s sensor be very inconsistent no matter how many times I re do my fingerprints. :(

          • @ReaperX22: Yeah my P30 Pro had instant unlock for fingerprint and fact unlock.

The Pixel 7's don't always work. Definitely a downgrade to the 2019 P30 Pro..

          • @ReaperX22:

I've had my p7s sensor be very inconsistent no matter how many times I re do my fingerprints.

Shocking how P5, now 3 generations old was a better phone…

        • Is it "sluggish" though. I've not noticed that with mine.

          • @Brianqpr: Moreso it takes a few goes. Or I need to manually unlock it with pass code when it keeps failing.

            • @Circly: Agree with this, I will often end up using the backup method. It's (for whatever reason) significantly worse with my right thumb. My left works 90% of the time without issue.

            • @Circly: I've never had an issue with it.

      • and don't see where the extra $200 asking price is spent

        Inflation…

      • Agreed, I was waiting to see what they were gonna announce, but even G3 seems to an incremental upgrade.. will go for s23 ultra when s24 comes out haha..

        • Yeah just wait till the pixel 9 or s25 haha

    • They're not mucking around, the problem is double whammy with USD rate.

  • Could this be paired with the $700 gift card for signing up to a telstra $69 24 month plan? Fine print for this pre-order deal also says if pre ordering in store, gift card will be given upon order completion.
    If possible, $350GC + $700GC + $200 (trade in pixel 6 128gb) + bonus $300 trade in = $1550 towards phone.
$149 up front for a 128GB Pixel 8 pro + $69 plan if you don't mind the 2 yr lock in

    • +2

you gotta understand, you cant use that $350 GC in same transaction, it comes after 2 weeks

      • "Pre-order today and we’ll email your bonus Gift Card within the next 2 weeks of order completion. Pre-ordering in-store? Your gift card will be given at the time of order completion."

Does that not mean if you pre order in store you will get the gift card at the time of ordering?

        • +2

No… At the time of order completion (I.e. After you've paid)

        • I'm sure you can use the giftcard to pre order the second phone ;P

          • @SmiTTy: and use gift card from second phone to pre order the third phone ;P

  • +1

The S23 Ultra 512gb secret sale back in May was even better deal than this new Pixel 8 pro offering, I paid like $1,163 (Secret code + $450 trade in bonus + 10% loyalty + $50 newsletter voucher.)

  • I need a new phone as the primary camera in my Huawei P30 Pro aint focusing anymore (otherwise still good battery and super snappy). Should I try replacing the camera, or should I buy this P8 Pro or S23 Ultra or wait for the S24 series?

    • P8 Pro will be snappier than S23 Ultra

      • or wait for s24, if you dont mind.
