      • So sad seeing people saying such things believing for their life thinking they know the truth

    • +1

      Not for consumer products.

    • Difference is that everyone’s personal data incl banking activity would’ve gone directly through the Huawei hardware, making a clear risk to security. Big difference to a car thankfully

  • Not a deal. As for the car, looks alright. Love the Telstra model S but the 3 is god ugly and ages even worse i reckon. Cannot stand it. The more competition to push Tesla the better.

    • +1

Have you seen the 2024 facelift?

I used to think it look pretty ugly too but I reckon the new update makes it look a lot nicer.

      • Yep, still looks confused and ugly to me. Like its been styled by flogging a few attributes from other cars but not cohesive. I have however seen a few aftermarket mods that looked pretty good. Beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder.

    • +3

The model S was designed by someone talented who went on to do Lucid Air which also looks great. The subsequent Tesla's were designed by some Dutch hack but also hamstung by Musk's whims, that's why they're terrible.

BYD is just leagues ahead of Tesla in design without the Model S designer. Headed by a former Alfa and Audi designer you can really see interesting lines. I was impressed by my Atto3 body work, clever design gimmicks to match the Ocean theme with light mimicking water just makes Tesla look amateur.

  • +1

No deal??? Where's the deal? Dui

  • +3

the new tesla is looking sexy tho
BYD performance version 3.8-second 0-100km/h (not the best, tesla old model 3 was 3.4 new refresh sure to be 3 sec flat or lower) rumours of plaid motor to be used twin instead of trio though

  • +1

Looks nice, but these BYD SEAL Dynamic sells in China for $36k AUD, so yeah they are making some margin with the Aussie TAX.

    • +1

Everything is cheaper in China except for Australian Supplements so no comparison

      • +1

Not to the same extent though, they are taking the piss with this pricing.

        • +1

          Weren't Aus-made Holdens subsidised too?

        • It's all the tarrifs and taxes to import to Aus

I'm sure they would sell it for much cheaper if they could

          • +1

@Poor Ass: Difference is around 22% to 25% depending on model, where say a Tesla is around 9-11% more expensive.
Trying to be fair, but 22-25% is like they are not even trying.

            • +1

@UltimateAI: There is no Seal Dynamic selling in China. This is the AUS model with higher specs. Go read the spec sheet and compare it side by side. The Chinese base model that sells for $36k AUS doesn't come with Dynaudio speakers, no powered trunk, no ventilated seats.

          1. You are not comparing the same model.
          2. Check how much %markup Australian goods sell for in China
    • +1

EV’s are subsidised in China. That’s why there’s so many people buying EV’s there. Half the cars in SH and HZ are EV.

      • I know ay

  • +7

Insane drive away prices for a full size sedan Ev with those features.

They are playing the same game Toyota did in the 80s by bringing out good looking cars at affordable prices, undercutting the big, lazy manufacturers who relied on the idea that people would never buy Japanese cars because they're "jap crap", then ultimately got taken over.

I'm already seeing more atto 3s than model 3s on the road.

This is going to make the big manufacturers sweat imo.

    • I see more Tesla than BYD. But I hope that changes. Saw MG4 the other day.

      • +5

Like everything in life. Price and accessibility will dictate popularity.

The MG's and byds are going to take over soon imo.

It's funny growing up watching Japan take over the US and Aus manufacturers and people pushing "quality issues" to discredit them. And now the same thing is happening again.

      • Where did you see the MG4? In Sydney?

  • +2

    RRP isn't a deal

  • +2

    No one pre-order 10?

  • -3

Q: How many EV's will still be running in 20 years?….

    A: None.

    • +2

Early EV batteries were prototypes, even they have held up well, but like an ICE car some fail within their lifetime.
Have you ever been quoted to replace an Audi Transmission, can be $10k+, how about an engine replacement, can be $25k if they can't recondition it.
In countries with higher EV adoption, like engine reconditions, you can get reconditioned \ repaired batteries.
Heck even when you purchase a new battery pack, you get decent return on the old pack.
If you have had the EV for 20years, that's a decent saving in running costs, services ect. My frigging Mazda wants two services a year, easily $600 each.

      • -4

Terrible comparison and just stinks of your bias. Bullshit your Mazda costs $600 a service twice a year not even my Sports cars costs that much.

Why compare with Audi let alone dealer prices? If you've got an old car an engine replacement will cost you $5k-$8k tops sourced from a wrecker.

A Toyota Prius battery costs $3k or can replace on a blade by blade basis for about $150 each. Drives 200k km.

        • btw just replaced intake manifold on my Mercedes GLA 200 Diesel. Every 55 000 kms manifold gets blocked by gasses and carbon.
3400 AUD including labour. Manifold is made of plastic btw. So sick of Mercedes! spent on 2014 car this year 8500 for service and repairs…
          really thinking about TEsla.

    • +5

Most cars on the road aren't 20 years old.

Realistically, if I bought a brand new car today, I wouldn't be driving the same car in 20 years either.

  • +2

    RRP is not a deal.

  • +6

The Seal, like all BYDs, are known to be poorly built and rust prematurely in China:

    https://m.dongchedi.com/video/7234093845082964540

    https://youtu.be/Ld2SOBgUaGY?si=Hmhu9RVSrn3GvIR0

    https://youtu.be/lcTKQzkV5AQ?si=aXgP5WJJxHxaF5zJ

When was the last time you saw Australian Chinese driving a BYD? Do yourself a favour and stay clear from the brand.

It's a good deal for an entry EV car though. But don't expect it to last.

    • +3

So, something made in China is poorly built? Why am I not surprised

      • +5

Exactly. China build = bad quality. Period.

When I think extremely good quality built, I always think Apple iPhone, and Tesla of course. Not some dodgy products manufactured in China.

        • +1

Lmao do you know "Apple iPhone, and Tesla of course" are built in China

    • +1

better than the other Chinese brands though.

    • +2

Auto Expert had a video on this too:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzMzDbr9p04

      • Entertaining, although follow the money, he has a financial interest in legacy auto. (referrals, novated leasing kick-backs and torches..:)

        • Fair point, but he's still telling the truth regardless.

        • That's not quite a fair comment. He recommends the MG4 which is an EV.

        • If he's getting kick backs from novated leasing then wouldn't he be profiting massively from EVs which are incentivised via tax breaks on salary sacrifice? Derp

          • @plmko: True but that’s only a recent deal for him.

    • Everytime I look in the mirror?

  • +1

    How is this a deal?

The same model Dynamic is sold for CNY 189,800 in China. (RRP, not including on-road costs. The actual price at dealers could be cheaper)
    AUD 49,888 = CNY 231,571
    (231571 - 189800) / 231832 = 0.1802
The same base model in China is 18% cheaper.
    (231571 - 189800) / 189800 = 0.2201
It's 22% more expensive in Australia.

As a comparison, the new Tesla Model 3 base model is sold for $61,900 in Australia and CNY 259,900 in China.
    AUD 61,900 = CNY 287,329
    (287329 - 259900) / 287329 = 0.0955
China is 10% cheaper than Australia.
    (287329 - 259900) / 259900= 0.1055
Australia is 11% more expensive than China.

    • +7

It is great that you can get it 18-22% cheaper in China, but we are not in China.

      • +1

We are not getting 22% more expensive Model 3

        • +2

You missed that Tesla sell DIRECT. BYD in Australia is distributed by EVdirect and Eagers. Those Aussie companies want their cut.
Also the models might be different than the domestic China models. The Atto3s and Dolphins were better optioned compared to their Chinese counterparts.

          • @Creamsoda: China doesn't "sell" the Dolphin. Our car is longer and wider, because it's purpose made for overseas markets so it's a non-comparison.

          • @Creamsoda:

Tesla sell DIRECT. BYD in Australia is distributed by EVdirect and Eagers. Those Aussie companies want their cut.

That's why I'm saying this isn't a good deal. As a customer why would I care if it has been passed by multiple distributors. The final result is, the price is much more inflated

    • Yes this is correct, BYD's are heavily discounted in China, rare to pay RRP.

    • Don't forget you have to take out GST for it to be apple-to-apple comparison

  • +2

    OzAdvertising or OzBargain?

  • +3

    Everyday price is not bargain

  • +1

Can anyone weigh in on the sunroof and if the AU version has a way of closing it. The inside would get cooked being left out in summer here, not to mention the sunburn the whole family would be wearing

    • Don't think you can close the roof. We opted for another brand where the roof closes. There are other brands where there is no glass roof too at the base model.

    • +1

Test drove it yesterday in the midday sun in 33c and the roof clearly has a good coating, no noticeable heat radiating from it like I experienced in the Tesla and our old Peugeot 308.
Looks like they also come with a clip in shade for the scorcher days but nothing retractable

  • +5

I'd avoid them… Just wouldn't risk my safety to save a buck. But you do you friend :)

    https://youtu.be/qKa8mVOe5so?si=BGmsiFxvkJcA1LFZ

    • +1

Wow serpentza went from shilling CCP to hating on them.

FYI Tesla sources batteries from BYD so cross them off your list too.

  • Definitely what we need on the road, more Chinese crap.

  • +4

    Sick deal🤡

  • Thanks OP!

Good to know BYD uses LFP for all variants of the BYD Seal.

  • -1

    Ultra-Safe BYD Blade Battery

Ultra safe and Chinese battery can never be in the same sentence….

    • +9

Ignorant much? Everyone's using Chinese EV batteries. From Merc to Teslas. not sure wth you on about.

you should be more concerned about LG chem batteries getting recalled then batteries from CATL or BYD.

      • +5

Toyota licensing the entire EV platform from BYD too.

        • Interesting, I thought they were developing solid state battery tech

          • @Caped Baldy: Yes for the last 20 years.

            Still not ready

        • Not true, it's only for a single vehicle for fleet compliance

      • +2

The Chinese make the Woolies $99 Smart phones and they also make the iPhone 15 Pro.

What matters is the design, specifications and management by a credible company. OEMs will make you whatever you want, at the price you want.

  • +1

some exciting colour options: white, black, blue-grey or grey-blue

    • Tesla Model 3's an obvious win here with 1 more color available
Pearl White · Solid Black · Midnight Silver · Deep Blue · Red

  • +6

It's $10k less than a Tesla Model 3 (comparing entry level models, drive-away in WA). That makes it a deal in my view. And yes, as others have said: quite likely will be more once the pre-sale ends.

As a bonus I'd much rather subsidise the Chinese economy than Elon.

    • -2

Good to have variety on our roads, but you will clearly be settling for an inferior\unsafer car. Either way though has to be safer than my 10yo Mazda.

      • Tesla is not known for being a good car in the first instance so there's an issue there.

Hard to know from a safety perspective.

  • Do people believe this preorder price to be the same in say - a months time?

  • +3

110kW DC Charging is outdated, and the 'Build Your Dreams' slogan on the back of their cars looks ridiculous.

    • +1

Logo will be gone AFAIK. 7kW AC is what is dated.

    • +1

New Seal will not have Build Your Dreams at the back. Just BYD

    • Doesn't matter when 50% of the fast chargers you need on a long trip are either broken or cant pump out the advertised speed. Infrastructure is filled with dodgy tritium chargers.

Waiting for Tesla to share more of their superchargers.

      • The infrastructure should improve over time, this car won't.

  • I think 3.8 s puts this car in bmw m6 territory.
Not compare bmw with byd, but just the acceleration.

  • +1

RRP not bargain.. maybe if there was a pre-order discount

  • +1

    Not a deal

  • +2

I will wait for the 15% SB bonus and 20x points on Evdirect gift cards ;)

  • WHAT IS HAPPENING

  • China bad

  • +2

I don't mind Chinese cars but that interior is vomit inducing.

  • +3

Just a heads up, the charging port appears to be on the right hand side. So you'll have to stretch the cable or have a long one for curbside charging.

    • 5m should be fine. I have 7m and it's plenty for RHS port.

      • Should be but some drivers are silly. The other night I saw a BYD parked in the wrong direction using a Jolt charger.

  • -3

Since when is RRP a deal. And EV, ewwwww!

  • +5

    RRP IS NOT A BARGAIN!

    • How's your blood pressure level? Calm down bro, no need to type in bold capitals.
