wow first time on the BYD website and it kinda looks like the tesla ordering website, got to love the chinese they just copy anything lol.

    • China numbah wan!

      • Emotional Damage.

    Thanks OP, got 3

    Upvoted

  • Very pricey for a sedan and almost the same price as BYD Atto

    • Seal is seen as a more premium product I think, more powerful, sporty. Atto is a soccer mum entry.

      • Base Seal is same specs as Atto3

        • yeah but a atto 3 is a SUV you can't compare a sedan to a SUV they are different types of cars. Its like trying to compare an ipad to an iphone.

        • Fair enough. Yet people assume an SUV should be more expensive? Dynamically a sedan is always superior, not everyone wants an SUV as we see with Camry and Model 3 sales.

          • +2

@R00D: yeah people get SUVs because they are more practical for camping and mounting stuff or people movers, the other reason they sit high up easy to get out and in. I actually hate SUVs they are the most ugly cars on the planet to me. I would much rather have a sedan, with good looks over "more practical" :D

            • @kungfuman: Dynamically sedans drive better too. I'm with you.

  • "Complimentary 1 Year Roadside Assistance included"

BYD has faith in their products.

    • +4

A lot of manufacturers are doing that now instead of including a spare tyre. You just get a tyre repair kit, roadside assistance, and a lucky charm.

  • -1

These look ugly asf. Could they possibly try any harder to copy the Tesla order page.

  • +2

Man they love the $1000 deposit bit too, test drove an atto 3 and they were so pushy trying to get a deposit out of me I ordered a Y, like the salesguy mentioned it at least 5 times from when I met him and we returned from the drive, every time he was told no, that I had to go test drive some other cars, he launched into a spiel 'oh it's totally refundable, no risk at all, just gimme $1000 for no particular reason', when we got back he had me wait around 20 minutes to talk to his manager who then spent another 20 minutes trying to talk him into giving them a deposit. It felt like I was 17 again and the dodgy local used car yard.

Any potential purchasers factor in their odd short and kind of pricy servicing costs vs other EV's.

Edit: oh and they sms'd me a bunch about the $1000 deposit before and after.

    • +5

In today's terminology that hustle is called crowd funding.

    • +5

yeah the biggest issue I have iwth BYD is they have pushy sales men where is tesla don't care if you buy a car or not lol. They just answer you questions and leave it to you to decide deposit for a tesla is like 400 bucks too :D

      • +1

I got 5 calls after I test drove the tesla, and none from BYD - depends on the sales person I suppose

        • Really tesla actually call u? They never called me lol

          • @kungfuman: Yeah it was odd..first time no followup second time maybe I got an overzealous one she was calling every week for over a month

      • I test drove a BYD and they didn't give a feck if I bought it or not, nor did they ask for a deposit.

      • Tesla charges order fee. It's not a deposit. If you cancel, you don't get that back and if you go ahead with the purchase, it doesn't get deducted from the price of the car.

    • Yeah, they're all doing that now.

  • +5

    Where is the…
    10% sign up coupon code
    The 20% shopback cashback
    The 20x woolworths rewards
    The 15% gift card discount
    The Govt/Edu/EPP special
And the $600 trade in credit
    …for this deal?

  • -4

Moderators are really suss, removed all the reports and then removes my neg vote. "Users, not mods, decide what is a good or a bad deal. We do not remove a deal just because you dislike the product or the price" but then goes ahead and removes neg vote for inappropriate us of neg votes. There's no bargain listed.

  • +2

Customisation shows only the front two seats, hella suss. If I want to midjourney some photos of a car and sell it for $50k+ and call it a bargain.

  • +4

I couldn't buy a car with Build Your Dreams written on the back of it. No matter what price or quality the car offers. Not doing it.

    • +5

I mean seriously, who dreams about a car, or fulfils their dreams by buying one.

      • +2

and why am i replying to myself

        • +1

Did you forget to change accounts? BYD is only putting BYD on the back of the seals.

          • +1

@ATangk: I removed my badge, having a badge named BYD will only bring shame. I would need to wear a balaclava and tint my windows to 0%

            • +2

              @sunnyc: Balaclava Your Driver

          • @ATangk: No, you mean they're NOT putting it on the back of the Seal.
They literally removed it for this car.

Unless that was auto correct and you were writing seats and not seals? 😂

            • @Deviner: Isn’t it still written on the bottom right? The promo shot on the webpage also shows the middle saying BYD.

    • +4

Good news. You can buy it now as BYD aren't putting on the Build Your Dreams badge anymore.

  • +3

    WTF is this RRP shilling??

    • Frightened someone might find out about that guy you've been seeing?

    Ultra-Safe BYD Blade Battery*

*the ultra safe certification was done by BYD technicians after a rigorous 3 month testing where almost no battery caught on fire.

    • -1

Feels like it's a response to the BYD's that caught fire in China to get people feeling safer about buying one. It's all from the company though so feels a bit off. Wouldn't mind seeing some third party tests done.

      • totally, and a decade plus of on road testing by beta users

thankfully we're not short of them

  • ez money grabbing 1k deposit, how long to get the car is unknown, yes, the delivery date is just a estimate only, they can adjust to late 2024, who knows?
    1 year term, ~ 500k x %?

    • +5

So Tesla Took $400 for a Model Y that was an existing inventory in the country (Of course someone else had cancelled their car booking) and I snapped it in April 2023 and was to be delivered in a months time ;I wanted it to be delivered in the last Tax year for a tax write-off. They didn't deliver on time so I cancelled and lost $400. They should have returned my $400 as they didnt deliver on time that they promised themselves; They didn't do it but then ill never ever buy a Tesla ever again.

But what i meant was every company is doing it at the moment , doesn't make it right though.

  • Does it come with fire extinguisher ?

  • +2

Its a decent price but should it be on OZbargain at RRP? We know nothing about the car.

  • +3

Looks like more of a forum/discussion topic than a deal!

  • Not a bargain
Also, if you are considering a purchase I would look into the reports of battery fires and airbags not deploying in collision.
Reported regularly where there’s allot sold. I wouldn’t want to be a test pilot - issues however could be fixed for Australian models.

  • +9

Great to see EV competitors coming to Australia. Tesla in Australia is still overpriced.

    • Frankly BYD build stuff for Tesla. It's interesting that BYD go ahead and selling their own EV. Chinese companies loving doing this taking someone else technology and mass produce for market.

Probably not like to like, but really close. In fact it could be the other way around Tesla using some BYD tech. Heh who knows

It's the same for many years

      • +7

BYD has been making cars and batteries long before Tesla. They don't make anything for Tesla, Tesla buys batteries from BYD

  • +1

Gonna wait and see real life usage before taking a punt.

Also right now I still think not worth it yet maybe in a few years

  • +2

If you want to try before buying these BYD cars try hire them with SIXT car hire first they have hundreds BYD ATTO 3. That particular car has strong smell when brand new, and be aware if you get a flat tyre, you will need to buy a new one and it may take weeks and weeks to arrive. The car comes with a kit to allow you to use a flat tyre for 80km only so do not plan to go to far away. Just some food for thought. I dont think this is a bargain btw.

    • I think the consensus on tyres on the atto was throw them in the bin immediately and get better ones.

      • +1

That may be the consensus of non-owners. Atto 3 owners have overwhelmingly kept the OG tyres, because they are fit for purpose.

  • +1

If only the performance was abit cheaper and it would have made it to the NSW $3k incentive.

  • +1

    RRP is not a bargain.

  • So the premium probably qualifies for EV rebate, but thinking the "+ onroad costs" throws the performance model over the threshold?
What would be the most expensive EV that still qualifies for the threshold?

  • Not worth Model 3 comes at 56k just 8k more and it has a lot more features.

    Dual wireless charging
    No servicing forever.
    Better actual range and efficiency.
    Full Self-driving compatible.
    Better braking.
    Charging infrastructure
these are few there are a lot more

    • +4

no such thing as no servicing

    • +1

sure the car needs to change brake pads, tyre, auxiliary battery, and more?

  • +2

did someone trigger the Tesla fangays or something

let’s all pretend this site isn’t used for advertising guys, no commercial interests here this is the only place on earth it doesn’t exist

    • +1

      fangays

      LMAO

  • +2

RRP is not a deal… and BYDs standards are not the same as what Tesla (as their client) gets for their batteries.
BYD was found using inferior batteries for their own cars, and the average consumer\CCP fanbase with a budget forgoes all safety concerns… its a bad mix… just ticking timebombs on our roads… and a clear Neg from me… its hard enough circumventing some of the blind and deaf Tesla nitwits who dont know what an indicator is for… just saying no to EV cars until the industry nuts it out completely…

  • RRP is not a bargain.

  • Save yourself the trouble. Nasty cheap chinese car.

  • Love to own BYD. Eyeing on for Seagull but not coming to Australia as safety rating is not that good. Have seen many BYD burning in different videos so will wait till they improve on safety with proven Australian record.

But I think RRP is still not a deal and no other website will be posting cheaper/higher comparative prices like PlayStations or XBOXes…

  • Merged from [Pre Order] BYD Seal: Performance $68,748 + on-Road Costs ($1,000 Deposit) @ BYD Automotive

I believe SA are now also eligible.

One issue: NSW EV rebate finishes by end of year, which means you'll need to get the car by 31st Dec 2023.

      • probably make some people cry when their vehicles are delayed.

      • +10

"Individuals and businesses that have purchased or placed a deposit on an eligible EV prior to 1 January 2024, and are awaiting delivery of the vehicle, will still be eligible to receive the stamp duty exemption and rebate, regardless of whether the vehicle has been delivered by that date."

        https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/nsw-gov…

        • Thanks for that. I didn't see that detail. Good news!

    • +4

I hate that Vic ditched the rebate :/

      • +6

Yup! VIC is by far the most expensive place to buy an EV, and until the court ruling yesterday, also the most expensive state to drive an EV. Seriously for a progressive state we seem to have it all backwards…

        • I'm out of the loop, what happened yesterday?

          • +1

@JLCC: The High Court struck down the EV road user tax.

        • Progressive? Is that you Dan?

      • +2

Imagine expecting other tax payers to partly fund your car purchase.

Would have been better to have rebates on Australian made cars to keep the industry going instead of encouraging the sale of products manufactured in other countries.

        • Expecting? No. But if there's an incentive, why not take advantage of it?

It happens with pretty much every Hilux, D-Max and Ranger on the road - far more than the relatively low numbers of EVs that get state-based rebates.

    • It will take a bit to charge this with AC

    • BE-YAA-DEE

      Proper pronunciation. 😅

    • +1

      "Another RRP deal!"

      • +1

EV Direct has listened to its NSW customers and dropped the performance model by $50 making it eligible for the NSW EV rebate.

It's an RRP drop and NSW buyers will save two / three thousands for Seal Performance
