      I like your thinking!

    • +2

It's also the cheapest and most expensive

      • +1

        True :)

  • +2

The performance model at 71k driveway is a good deal! Quicker than the Model 3 Long Range with AB.

  • +2

Will you only be able to adjust cruise control by 5km/h increments like the Atto 3?

These small usability issues is what sets apart more mature car designers/manufacturers from these newbies.

    • -1

I didn't know VW/Audi are newbies? I can only adjust them in 5km/h increments unless I cancel and reset a new speed in my VW??

      • -1

Assuming you have a Mk6 GTI, then your car was released 15 years ago.

Current Mk8 Golf would be able to adjust in 1km/h increments, so no, VW aren't newbies.

        Nice try though.

      • Try holding down the cruise control's + button

        It's like a tiny little finger-activated accelerator pedal :)

    • Wait, what?

Can you hold the button to go up/down by 1km/h increments?

      • Wait, can it adjust 500m/hour ?

      • +1

Nope. You can only adjust it in 5km/h increments. It's the stupidest usability design oversight I've ever heard of in a modern day car.

    • I've had mine for more than half a year and that hasn't bothered me in the slightest. Speed limits are always multiples of 5, so there's no issue.

    • +4

This is probably the most compelling set of facts in this thread. Another dodgy company.

    • +5

Did you look at Tesla? Aint no saint

    • +14

really? a paragraph of a hodge podge law suits on crowd edited wikipedia sounds like grasping at straws. have you seen all the foxconn controversies with apple? or seen the quality control issues coming out of Tesla's LA plant? or the lawsuits against basically any silicon valley company?

    • +1

We're all convinced you were seriously considering the purchase before reading Wikipedia.

  • +6

This is OzBargain, not OzPreorder, we need a DEAL

    • Order one and you have a deal.

  • +4

If you can post other things for 'awareness', like GPU and PS5 stock, not sure why this can't be posted for awareness.

  • +1
  • +9

This is just RRP. No deal.

  • +6

nothing to see here, no deal

    • Better looking EV to see here
      😉

  • +2

Like Andrew O' Keefe says on his famous TV show 'DEAL OR NO DEAL' before slapping his doctor girlfriend in a row over an ice pipe - 'NO DEAL!'

  • +2

I would have thought they could do more than 1 year of roadside assistance.

  • +11

Thanks for all the healthy debate. No I don't work for BYD, just a fan (and as somone pointed out, have been on OzB long enough to spot a bargain ;) If you look at the pricing of the ATTO3 when it was first available for pre-order vs current pricing, you would know what I mean ;)

    • Well atto 3 like most cars also went up in that period

  • +1

i thought these where meant to be cheap EV - this feels like a similar price to a Tesla or im a just clueless about EVs

    • +4

      The 2nd option.

    • +1

When teslas came out they were over 100k.

      • +2

when Tesla came out there was next to no EV competition….

i actually think it is a 'nice looking car' but you either go for value, or brand apparel and i felt BYD and MG where certainly going the 'value for money' rout

    • Tesla M3 performance is 20K more expensive. Well the older one is, and I think the new one might be 97k drive away. Should note that you’re getting an LFP battery as well

    • These are about $10k cheaper than Tesla's.

All car prices have gone up. A base Camry is low $40k these days so this isn't unreasonable imo.

  • +1

Can this car drive itself like a Tesla?

    • +1

Thought even if you bought the self driving option you're not allow to use it on Australian roads

  • +4

    Looks much better than Tesla

    • It was designed by the former Audi head designer

      • Aren't they all "European designers"

Kia and BYD designers were from Audi

GWM designers for the Ora was from Porsche and lights look like them

  • +5

    RRP = not deal

  • +5

No deal here, its just advertising

    • -3

You have submitted zero deals since joining in 2018.

      • +1

Well its a good thing you don't need to submit deals, to still be part of the Ozbargain community.

        • -3

          Beggars, choosers, etc.

Well its a good thing you don't need to submit deals, to still be part of leech from the Ozbargain community.

          FTFY.

  • +2

    Good price.

  • +2

I am getting one of these. Great price.

  • +8

They need to remove the corny "Build Your Dream" logo. It is embarassing.

    • +7

      They did.

      • +1

Then worth a look, I guess.

      • You sure about that? BYD seal

        • +1

It’ll be gone when it gets here.

    • But it is removed in this model?

  • +4

By checking the specs, $30k will be a fair price.

    • +8

lol by that standard model 3 should be $20k, anyways I agree that EVs should be cheaper

      • +9

You can’t even get a yaris for that price now.

      • -6

0-100km/h in 7.5s for $50k? BYD needs to bribe me with $20k cash to spend my $50k for this slow EV.

        • +2

          7.5s to 100 is fairly reasonably for a 50k car isn't it?

          • +1

@greennick: Still thinking of the V8’s you could pick up at that price. They’re long gone now.

        • Not every EV needs to be a rocket. If you want fast acceleration, they have the performance model. As an Atto 3 owner, I can say that the acceleration has always been adequate for what I needed.

Also that's likely to be a conservative number anyway. I've seen other Atto 3 owners reporting lower 0-100 times than the one advertised. Not by a huge number; less than half a second difference, but still lower.

    • $27k hyundai i30 petrol ….electric at $30k is dreaming ….

      • +3

You will see that happen within 4 years.

    • IMO $30k will be a fair price, considering the current line-up is a bit over double the domestic CNY prices. Doesn't cost $20-30K AUD to ship a car + taxes, especially not at that scale.

Until more Chinese manufacturers expand overseas, BYD will be happy just barely offering better value than Tesla/Kia/Hyundai.

      • +2

China heavily subsidises EV’s. The price of electricity is half that of Australians, but they actually pay the same as what we do for petrol. Yet their wages are something like half.

Meanwhile every other country will need to pay import taxes.

At least cars here cost nothing compared to what Singaporeans have to pay.

        • +1

China's EV subsidies are mostly at the manufacturing level, or indirectly to buyers in forms of road taxes. Not so much direct rebates on local sales. The cars being shipped over cost just as much to produce as the domestic ones.

The public transport and city planning here is also nothing like Singapore. What's your point?

      • +2

Double is a bit too much of an exaggeration, the entry level Seal is $190k RMB in China which works out to be $41k AUD

      • You would be surprised by how much goes towards local taxes

Used to live in a Gulf country for many years, Toyotas and Holdens (sold as Chevys) that showed on the the compliance plates that they were built in Australia

Built here and shipped to the Middle East, yet cost nearly half the amount they cost to purchase in Australia

  • +5

    another rrp car post

  • Nice but I'm holding out for the BYD ute

  • +2

Yes bring down the ridiculous EV pricing!

  • +6

This one is nicely pitted against the MG4 Essence, while the Dolphin is a direct competitor to the MG4 Excite. Can only be good for competition…

But.. what the HELL is the infatuation with a black roof on heaps of these new cars???!? It's a ridiculous trend, looks goofy, and makes your car hotter.

    • No

    • you mean the all "Glass Roof?" if so blame Tesla.

    • Could EV companies realistically design roofs that double as solar panels, which in turn charge the car itself?

      • Why not go all the way, solar panel whole body

        • I figured the roof is least susceptible to damage and also has the most exposure to the sun

  • +2

Appears that none of these models support 11kw 3 phase AC charging? Capped to 7kw single phase?

    • +1

According to the website yep. Hence why I won't get one as charging speed is important to me.

  • Am I right in reading the BYD website that there are only 6 service centers in Victoria, all of which are in Melbourne? That's going to be horrible for any warranty work

    • +5

I just checked Tesla.. they have 2 in VIC, both in Melbourne….

      • +1

Yep, it's a big part of why I won't consider one right now.

        • +1

Tesla mainly do mobile serving though, I have been quite shocked and impressed what their mobile team can do.
But yes for some RARE items you may need to visit a service centre.

      • +3

A big part of the Tesla ownership is the mobile service, but yes rare occasions you may need an actual service center.
If you are expecting a traditional service, then you have not made the transition to EVs.
        https://www.tesla.com/en_au/support/mobile-service

    • +2

That's why people go Tesla, it's primarily mobile (even for some bodywork), very impressive mobile service team.

  • +8

The most improved feature is they got rid of the ugly Build Your Dream logo from the back!

  • +2

Great pricing, should force Tesla's hand… but 'RRP Announced' Isn't a bargain.

  • +1

    This just advertising…no bargain listed.

Do we need a post for every car sold at RRP in Australia?

  • +2

    RRP is not a deal!

  • +2

Some could say it’s all time low, but interestingly it’’s its all time high also - therefore nor a deal…

  • +6

WOW. The webpage is almost a direct clone of the Tesla sales page for their cars.

China really knows how to copy and steal IP.

    • +3

google EVDirect the distributor thats responsible for the webpage where they're from? xenophobe much?
Go ask Tim Cahill to hire a new designer?

      • -1

Ok, upon further inspection, the centre display in the car model also very similar to Model 3.

Looks to be common in the industry:

        https://electrek.co/2022/09/21/china-tesla-clone/

It's one thing to read about China stealing so much IP, another thing to see an example.

  • Upvoted because my first EV will be a BYD

  • +4

If this is a paid ad shouldn't there be a notice somewhere saying that, isn't that a legal obligation of the website?

If it's not a paid ad, what is it doing here, it's not a bargain

  • Super ignorant on this but is there any chance that the western world pulls a Huawei on BYD in the future?

Had a very brief look at the ownership of BYD and it doesn't look like any of it is owned by the Chinese government but given that its based in China, I can't imagine that would matter too much.

Cars these days record so much data, but I imagine that if its found in the future that this data is being funneled back to the CCP, could BYD get sanctioned like Huawei did resulting no furthur updates and limited functionalities?

Personally don't give a rats ass who has my data, whether its US tech giants or the CCP, more so that it would impact my ability to use the product I pay for.

    • +3

Huawei was banned from telecommunications network infrastructure (and for very good reason, not about consumer data). Not consumer products.

      • I see - I admittedly don't know the intricacies of why Huawei was banned, you reckon nothing of sort could happen with BYD?

I suppose if Berkshire Hathaway think it appropriate to own 9.8% of the company, then perhaps my worry is unfounded.

        • Intricacies… they are too good at cyber theft and espionage, both in terms of sophistication and scale. Using their hardware and software you are at an extreme disadvantage trying to even detect let alone safeguard against it.

In terms of risk with BYD, i dont see it. Not unless there was a conflict.

        • If BYD was banned say good bye to Apple and Android phones…
