@jv: And tight arses like me. 50/20 is enough for me and only me.

          • @jv: They're not - it's 50/20 and less.

            • @The Hobo:

              They're not - it's 50/20 and less.

So they are targetting pensioners too !!! 😲

          • @jv: 25/10 peeps are also paying for it.

If NBNs aim is to get me off my adequate "slow" plan. They can win when I swap for 4G or 5G.

          • +1

@jv: because he needs another yacht

          • @jv: My NBN connection got upgraded to FTTP which was great. And then my work place decided to throttle work VPN to 10mbps. That might be fine for my colleagues in the call centre but I work with data analytics so I no longer need anything beyond 25/10 speed. Typical Australian corporate IT who get away with not doing their job properly

No I don't have any active media streaming subscriptions.

So raising the lower speed tier price does nothing to motivate me to move to a different tier. Just getting more money from me.

            • @CoronavirusVaccine: This isn't just about you though…

              • @jv: Agree. My apolog for the whinging.

Let me rephrase my point another way: many people won't see real benefit in moving up from 50/20 to 100/20.

                • @CoronavirusVaccine:

many people won't see real benefit in moving up from 50/20 to 100/20.

                  True, but many would too…

well he was a former newscorp employee so he needs to be rewarded for slowing down the NBN as much as he could

Still too much, with them for 5 years, recently left.

  • +4

… strange as i just got this from them.

"From your next bill on or after 21 November 2023, your NBN 50Mbps/20Mbps Unlimited ($79) plan will be increasing to $85"

Looks like I'm going to go and look else where as well

    • +2

Guarantee that most other providers will bump their prices up to pass on this cost

      • +4

And still be cheaper than ABB

        • Sure - but the difference would likely remain constant

    • Got the same so I'll be looking elsewhere

  • +8

you call this a bargain post 😂

  • +1

Superloop 6 month ended so I cancelled and they offered me another 6 months at $85 a month for 250mbps

    • +2

I asked to cancel, they said "ok"

      • Sometimes you get reps on the phone who are good and having a good day. Other times, you’ll get someone who could not give a shit about your or their job. That goes for any call centre. Luck of the draw.

      • You can always start with "I'm thinking of cancelling is there anything you can do to keep me" kind of spiel. If that doesn't work then just try cancelling with that rep or another. Depends how much time you want to waste.

  • Lower speed is increased in price. No good. Anyone has a better deal for 50/20 ? I cannot join More Telecom anymore as their t&c said only once per customer and per premises.

    • +1

      Superloop or Leaptel.

    • currently with more telecom, am thinking once the contract ended, i will move other isp for 6 months then port back to more telecom with another 12 months at lower price. from what you quote above, my intention is no longer valid.

    • Yea I really only need 50/20, as do 99% of people tbh, aussie isn't that attractive anymore

    • I cannot join More Telecom anymore

      Why?

They also have an ongoing discount for CBA customers…

Also, I know a few people who had the 30% discount extended by another 12 months, simply by asking.

      • I chat with them on the other day, and I no longer valid for the promo. But when I asked if I use my wife name with the same address, can I get the promo and they said yes, which is contradict what they have in their T&C. I am afraid to jump to Superloop as past experience with Exetel was not good at all.

        • I chat with them on the other day, and I no longer valid for the promo.

I sent an email, they called me back and offered 15% off for 12 months.
A friend a couple of months back got another 30% off for 12 months, but he's on slower plan.

      • What discount? I bank with Commbank.

  • +10

I'm personally not happy with Aussie putting my 25/10 plan up from $65 to $71.

Does anyone else know of another provider who delivers the speeds they promise (no congestion) and has a good app so I can report any outages/try resets etc without calling them?

    • +5

Good luck. You generally get what you pay for. Those things you mentioned cost money to provide.

      • +2

I've been doing the great Australian churn since 2018… AUSSIEBB / Superloop / Leaptel is the way to go.. Ive not had a drop out or slow peak speeds ever.. I'm on Fttp just an FYI

        • +1

I found superloops customer service wanting a few years ago. Haven't tried leaptel but there intro pricing looks really good.

Have you had to troubleshoot with them at all? Could you use an app to troubleshoot and raise faults?

        • Good going mate!

So when you churn, do they treat you as a brand new customer or returning customer? Just trying to determine if you get access to whatever their signup promo is at the time all over again? (usually 6 month discounted pricing)

          TIA

        • Looks like I might just do the same as well. Loyalty is for suckers after ABB said they weren't going to honour a couple of my referrals.

        • +1

I've been doing the great Australian churn since 2018… AUSSIEBB / Superloop / Leaptel is the way to go.. Ive not had a drop out or slow peak speeds ever.. I'm on Fttp just an FYI

This is what I was doing. But then superloop has been cheaper for me over the past 1-2 years on 100/40 compared to ABB's 100/20! And I haven't had any issues with superloop (FTTP). So I just stick with superloop now

      • Yep that's why I've been with Aussie for years. Hopeful someone else would do the app thing as well, surely it costs them less overall for customers to self serve.

I guess I'll have to swallow the price increase if there aren't any other providers with a troubleshooting /fault reporting app and reliable speeds.

        • if there aren't any other providers with a troubleshooting /fault reporting app and reliable speeds.

I reckon I've had 1 brief outage in the last 5 years on NBN, how many do you get?

        • It's not that scary, just try another one, you can always switch back. I switched away from ABB a couple of years ago, haven't switched back. only bad experience I had was with vodafone 5g

          • +2

@wintersnow911: Switching to leaptel. Thanks everyone! Bye bye Abb. I won't take the price rise lying down!

    • +4

"I want a $70 quality service but only want to pay $50 for it"

      • +1

Yeah absolutely. That's called shopping around for the best deal.

More fool you if you don't want a $70 service for $50.

        • +2

There's so much more to value than price.

    • Aussie's cost increased by $6, and they're passing it on. You don't think other RSP's will do the same?

      • You don't think other RSP's will do the same?

Not if you lock in a price for 12 months.

    • +2

The reason people pay a bit extra for ABB is to get the things you listed. I don't think you'll find a better/cheaper alternative if those things are important to you.

    • +2

Leaptel is my answer mate 🐸

  • +1

What is this? NBN 210/20 is $95 at tpg. How is this a bargain?

    • +5

I've had billing and customer support issues with tpg. Abb support has been great but it does seem there are other competitive offers out there so hopefully people can make an informed choice. It's good to have this down but if I find a better offer at a reliable provider I could jump ship too.

      • +5

That’s the thing. It’s hard to match their service. Jumping ship to save a buck or two is not worth it IMO.

        • It depends on tradeoffs.

If your ok with issues occasionally , pricing matters, and less support go with a cheaper provider.

If your highly dependant on connectivity and genuinely responsive support, e.g wfh then its a different proposition.

There is a very real difference in support on the marginal nbn technologies.

        • +2

ABB customer service isn't it was a couple years ago. If that's the reason you're staying, you should re-evaluate.

    • TPG's peering to eastern asia (especially to China) is not good. Worst case scenario your traffic got routed to the US first before it reaches the other side of the pond.

    • +2

Aussie Broadband you at least get what you pay for.

      • +5

        internet?

    • +2

You're right, I'm on TPG too, I run my business from home on it, I'm very happy. Not sure how this is a bargain either. TPG is just fine and reliable.

  • +7

This is great news. Aussie BB has best service, don’t care what people say. 1000/50 now more compelling than ever.

    • +1

      "don’t care what people say."

maybe you should. you went to them because everyone raved about their stellar customer experience.

now everyone's reporting that it's gone to shit, you choose to plug your ears?

      • -1

        ‘Everyone’ is reporting…ya, sure buddy.

        • +1

did you wait for literally all 7.xxxxxx billion people to endorse ABB before you signed up?

          grow up.

          • @xrailgun: It’s ok, you don’t need to be their customer. They’ll manage.

    • +1

Sometimes you just have to vote with your wallet! Paying more for something you can get for much less isn't worth!
Again everyone has their own reason.

  • I'm with ABB but they are pricy, especially with the increase to the 50/20 plan. What are some of the alternative providers that do not use CGNAT or at least give you an option to opt out?

    • +1

Me, too. Slower plans got a price hike. Just received the email about it.

Thinking about switching to Superloop. Their peering may not be better than ABB but can do without CGNAT and have IPv6 and SIP, or at least their customer services say.

    • Superloop.

Can confirm you can opt out of cygnat, in the settings section when you login

    • Tangerine is static. Didn't need to request for any opt out.

  • +4

Only for 12months, why can't they just keep the same rate, all these for 6 or 12months prices are BS. No deal.

    • Clearly they must retain a large % of their user base after the promo pricing ends.

Yes, ozbargainers are more likely to churn over to a new RSP, but i'm assuming the vast majority just stick with it.

  • Not a bargain !
Exetel and Superloop (likely as reliable for most people) are cheaper.

    • +2

There's more to value than price.

    • +2

Superloop was atrocious for me, haven't tried Exetel. How is it not a bargain? It's just a straight up discount to my current plan.

      • went from superloop to extel was good for me, wouldn't recommend superloop to anyone, terrible customer service and actual internet

        • I'll give em a crack after my promo ends, haven't found anyone with the same level of reliability as ABB in my area, might be better after FTTP upgrade though so I dunno.

          • @Jasonissm: Unlikely. For all people say ABB is a rip off, it's by far the best network (and complete package). More than happy myself to be paying more than elsewhere, but I'm also what NBNCo consider a 'power user' so I suppose I'm an edge case.

            • +2

@BradH13: 100% agree, I WFH so I need the reliability. Superloop just completely dropping out while I'm in a meeting was just a mess.

    • Exetel doesn't have a 1gbps plan

    • Exetel is the worst from my recent experince.

  • +1

    Too expensive.

For example, tangerine/more/spintel all can do 100/20 for $69.9. It’s almost $30 cheaper

    • +3

That's like comparing Apples with Tangerines though. (Maybe Avocados with Tangerines)

Aussie is a premium provider. (I do agree they're still a bit too pricey despite being a premium provider)

  • FW price goes up. Whilst FTTP price goes down. Digital divide grows. Anyone know any good FW ISP with static IP options?

  • +2

Yo this is getting towards double the price of some of the other providers.
FWIW I'm happy at Tangerine right now.

    • Same, recently ported over from Extel (was 250 plan) and decreased to 100/20. Currently paying 47.90 per month for 100/20 from this deal, porting went smooth, Extel sucked having to give 30 days notice to leave.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/787265#

Rock solid speeds at peak times (FTTP in Adelaide)

    • Same but on Fibre

  • +1

Damn, ABB really charging people some serious money these days.

    • +2

Yeah they have been steadily increasing their prices lately. Or rather competitors have been steadily lowering prices.

      • +2

ABBs prices haven't changed for years until now

    • +2

Insane isn't it. These 'discounts' are at least double what anyone should be paying.

  • +3

😂😂 I only posted mainly on the price drop on the 1000/50 plan which isn't bad at $129 for ABB. Esp if one is already on it.. a $20 discount means I would pay $109 for the remainder of my 12m deal.

Mods added other plans and prices to title, and I agree ABB aren't as competitive there.

  • +3

Sorry, this isn't a bargain, it's just their "new normal price".
Acknowledging that the price increases on their higher plans are a good thing, I don't think it constitutes a bargain.

  • +3

Wow!! I'm with Tangerine on their 6mth promo at $49/mth for 6mths for 100/20. I'm getting about 92Mbps speeds.
    Not a deal imo

    • Is there a code for this?

    • how

      • 15$ off for existing bupa customers. Coupon code on bupa portal.

        62.9-15=47.9

      • +1

Sorry forgot to mention it was a Fibre upgrade promo from FTTP.
