What do people recommend for a basic Mazda 3?

      Unleaded 91

      • +1

        I said "people" not "trolls"

        • -5

          and?

        • at least the response wasn't 'the crusher'
          .

    • Does it have to be Pirellis? Goodyear EfficientGrip/2, Bridgestone Turanza, Hankook Ventus Prime 3, lots of great touring tyres available. Even consider Continental PremiumContact 6 if they're a available for a good price in the size you're after.

      • Only pirelli is 50% off though and I don’t wanna spend more than $400 on tyres for this shit box

    • +1

I've just stuck a set of Powergy 205/60/R16 on my Mazda3, Was $600 including fitting with Tyroola, they have only just gone on today so too early to review, i had ordered them before i saw this deal but meh the old ones were done. I will be doing a 600km trip on Sunday so will see how noisy/quiet they are at freeway speeds.

      • +2

Very impressed with the Powergy, the quietest tires I've ever had on my Mazda 3, normally the road noise at 100/110 is awful but yesterdays long trip i was not bothered by it at all. Havent driven on them in the wet yet but initial impression is excellent and a massive improvement over the Cincaturo P7 in terms of road noise.

        • I also have the powergy.

Great breaking performance too compared to chinese knock offs.

They have saved me multiple times from careless drivers

        • Cheers for the review! Have booked in a set of Powergy's and also have a ~600km trip coming up so great to see they're comfortable and hold up well.

  • Never worked last year - I'm amazed we're all up voting

    • Worked for me after sitting in green room for a couple of hours, can always head in store or get Ozbargainer to screenshot your size and then get Jax tyres to price match

      • Interesting I will do - thanks.

        +1 for jax then?

        • Jax wouldnt price match for me, but i think otheres had success.

          • @Helicon: It will be hit and miss with JAX depending on the franchise owner.

  • How do you compare with tyroola? They have so many models of Scorpion Verde

Does it matter if you get a model that’s not matched to your car brand? E.g. there are AR for alfa romeo, LR for landrover etc

  • +4

Weird fact…MyCar is actually owned by Continental tyres, or so a staff member told me.

    • +4

Kmart Tyre & Auto Service was acquired by Continental AG 2018

  • Worth checking out whatever offer JAX have at the same time, I got Michelin PS4s for not a lot more a previous year.

    • Now that’s what I call a blatant trademark violation..

  • Who here has experience with the NSW Hurstville, Bankstown or Oyster Bay mycar branches? Are they all the same? or is there one to avoid?

    • +2

I got my Pirelli Scorpien Verde from Oyster Bay a few years ago in the 50% off. Purchased online and fitted down there. I didn't take up the log book offer though.

I ordered online no issues, contrary to lots of other experiences.

    • Bankstown obviously.

    • +2

I have had tyres fitted at Bankstown and was very happy with the service. This will be where I go to get my tyres fitted this black friday sale. My tyres have wires exposed

  • +2

Last year's was an absolute shit show, prices didn't drop at midnight, a queueing machine (which made sense but took forever), most tyres out of stock, payment method disallowed… Gave up and headed over to the store, done within 2 mins! (Albeit with cheaper substitutes as they didn't have P-Zero…)

P.S. I was apparently the first to order the tyres in store at around midday, which doesn't make sense

    • They out them on order for me at the discount price… only waited about 3 weeks and had my P-zeros.

  • +1

theres no pirelli tyres for my car. in any of the stores near me.does that mean im out of luck?

  • +2

ha ha Pirelli tyres on an i30

    • We need someone that still has a Daewoo Lamos..

    • +1

Better than Triangle tyres on an AMG.

  • +1

Maybe they'll update the page https://www.mycar.com.au/blackfriday

  • Won't let me find a service for logbook, my car is 110000kms, but age should be 180000kms.

Ford told me I can do 113000kms, the major is at 120000kms but I'm off and I don't drive much.

Unfortunately Mycar doesn't list online, would I select manual or ring for $100 off? Most the quotes online are $180-240.

  • +1

    don't rate p zeros - going mitchell ps4 s on vw golf

    • +1

Was tossing up on this. Michelin ps5's at Costco is approx $930ish

  • +1

My car has 4 Michellin tyres, one of them (RR) has a puncture and cannot be repaired. I was quoted $450 just today by Bob Jane. Should I wait for this sale instead get 2 Pirellis instead?

    • +1

Technically you can especially if you run different profiles between front and rear axle anyways. Unless you are using the car to pro race, the difference in grip, temperature, differentials etc arent really going to matter on suburban roads…

  • +1

My cousin is manager of Ashfield store NSW and he texted me Sunday and mentioned this deal. It's legit

    • -1

Shame on you for not posting

      • +5

It's up every year so no need to post

        • +2

          Username checks out.

  • 100% go in store. Don’t bother doing online, the sites trash.

  • there's a few listings of OE tyres, does it matter if you get one that's not for your car brand?

    https://www.bobjane.com.au/blog/oe-tyres-explained

  • Here we go again

  • Curious what they might charge for a logbook service. Anyone get them last year?

  • +1

Gees, on the only pirelli for my size (265,30,20) its $769 a tyre meaning savings of $1538. Shame I'm not ready for a new set yet, need to do more high yield burnouts

    • Shop around. Their regular prices are quite high in my experience

  • Got this last year… great deal even though it took 1.5 hours on the phone because the website crashed.

  • Can someone confirm that Pirelli's are are good performance tyres but probably need to be replaced sooner than Michelin and Conts as they wear out faster

    • Nope. My CC has had its set for 2 years and still going great. Granted I am largely WFH these days, but no issue on the wear imo.

      • +4

        how many kms?

        • that's the real question!

    • Yep can confirm, burnt through my set after just over 20,000k's. Great grip though.

      • any mischievous activities or normal use?

        • Well, going to be honest the conditions were always pretty dry.
That may've been a contributing factor.

  • I've been waiting all year for this one… I don't even need tires but I'm still tempted :)

  • Pirelli P7C2 are meant to be really good touring tyre. Anyone see that option in their size?

  • +3
  • Website was an absolute joke last year. Thankfully my car and my wife's car are good from the last 2 years. Taking a year off.

    • As a night worker, you reckon I'll stand a good chance online when I get home at 3am?

  • are there ever any sales on michelin ps4s?

    • +1

Buy 4 get $150 cashback lol

    • Yeah I got some for a good price at JAX two years ago for black friday

    • Looks like tyresales have them for 1096 for 4 tyres delivered/fitted/balanced for me (Sydney)

  • -1

Checked the website and the brand doesn’t make tyres for my Mazda CX5 Akera, shame.

  • +3

The only deal from last year that traumatised me, is back. What a god damn nightmare that was.

  • Does this apply if it’s not in stock and they have to order it in?

  • Anyone who uses MyCar services who used MotoServe previously? Let me know what you think of their difference. I feel like MotoServe is getting too expensive.

  • +4

Not really 50% off. For those of you in Sydney Tempe Tyres are already 30-40% cheaper as standard pricing and far better service . Their pricing includes fitting / balance as well

    • Andddd get mycar to beat them by $1 😂

I’ve done this couple of times when I can’t be bothered going to Tempe

  • +1

Last year I didn’t bother with the online hassle and drove down to MyCar. Ordered 2 sets of 4x tyres (P7C2s and PZ4s) and came back another time for fitment. Was pretty straightforward and whilst Pirelli at RRP is debatable first choice, at half price its hard to beat. I always wonder about places like Tempe with their grey import stuff and its a 3 hour return trip for me.

  • +2

Glad I dropped $2.5k on some new PZeros last week

  • +2

Was looking to get Michelin PS4/5's, but Pirelli P zeros would probably be a better deal at $650-700 for a set.
There's so many different P zero versions for 225/40R18 92Y size though, anyone know what's the difference between them or what's the most equivalent to PS4's?

    • I noticed the same. There are lots of P zero versions for 225/40R18. However, my rear tyres 255/35R18 only come in P Zero XL - so that sort of narrows it down for me I guess.

    • +1

pz4 then next step is trofeo

imo the higher end conti are generally a better tyre for the street and have been for a while but they are rarely on sale and rarely cheap, so people balk at the price

my parents had an OE set and even after 15 years
they still went well on the putty/old road, no cracking, no funny stuff really. No where near as fast as I would ride up there but fast enough to be fun and a little scary for passengers who dont know the road like the back of their hand

I had a set of ad07's on my gtr at the time and couldnt repair one of them, swapped a continental, slightly softer side wall but outright grip was the same. In the wet it felt better but the ad07 was classed as a street/track tyre

pz have been ok, but I never buy them as the wear is just bad, never hear anyone of getting good life track or street. I would only buy them if they were half the cost of the michelin or conti. If they were the same price I would go with conti but if michelin are 20-30% cheaper I would go with them. If you do track days too, id go with neovas or direzzas but they are worse in the wet

  • +1

Also in the market for a set of staggered P Zero runflats.

If they are out-of-stock now, what is the chance they will be available next week..?

  • +1

The 12 month Road Hazard Warranty is great from mycar, my Pirellis developed a side wall split from hitting a pothole and tyre was replaced 2 weeks out of the warranty period. Shame i bought tyres for my other car already otherwise i'd be all over this.

  • +3

If you buy ATR tyres, make sure you register for your free 24 month Pirelli warranty: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/812163

  • -4

how is this legit? just because one staff member said so?

    • +4

It's been happening for the past few years

      • -3

based off a single employee, you are 100% confident its happening again?

        • +3

Make that three my cousin is store manager Ashfield a d I know manager at Bankstown both confirm this deal

    • -2

Trust BG and his sources ;)

  • My car needs new ones thanks for post

  • If i just book my car in on this date, would i get the discount?

  • I have all my tyres with continental changed 2 years ago , but one of them has a slight side crack, if I change it to PIRELLI , will it be ok?

often people say, you do better have 4 tyres with the same brand

    • Depends if it's FWD or AWD/4WD.

      FWD shouldn't matter.

    • Ask Mycar, they are owned by Continental

  • I remember this last year, the price wasnt that great when I checked comps online, I didnt put a whole lot of effort either, 2 mins and it was pretty much the price I could buy from 2 other stores

    Did I miss something?

    • Depends on which tyre and size. I was looking at 265/45/20, the Scorpion Verde prices were average but $400 a set less if I choose the PZero XL with mycar’s so-called 50% off…

Do I need PZero on an SUV, maybe not…

      • I have Michelin PS4s on a Cruze and probably saved me from a crash one time. Definitely makes a difference having good tyres even on an average car.

    • +3

      Yes. Fitting and delivery.

  • How much is routine servicing at mycar usually?

    • Non-log is from $259 I think.
