      • FB marketplace

    • nice - cashback?

      • Damn I didn’t even think of it.

Probs need to hand back my OzB badge…

    • I tried to order the same thing, but I'm getting $2,599.00 as the price for my unit. What am I doing wrong?

      • +1

@zzzman seems to have ordered the base 8GB, whilst you're upgrading to 16GB?

      • +1

Mine is only 8GB unified memory.

        $2,599 is for 16GB

        • why'd you upgrade ssd not ram, when you can't increase ram later, but can add ssd externally?

          more ram is generally better

          • +1

@tonester: Because he doesn’t hold onto his MacBooks for years and he likes upgrading every iteration? zzzman needs no introduction :P

            • @FrugalNotStingy: I didn't know I had this sort of Apple reputation (or notoriety) on OzB LOL

              • +1

@zzzman: Not just on OzB, people who frequent Whirlpool and MacRumors know you lol
I always enjoy your first hand pics of iPhone, MacBook, Apple Watch and accessories on MacRumors on release day!

        • Of course - that was silly of me to assume - thanks!

  • I just bought the M1 MacBook Air (delivered tomorrow) and now the M2 is just $90 more.

Is it worth the $90 for the M2 and if so does anyone know how easy Apple returns are or could I walk into store pay the $90 more and exchange?

    • No, you get full refund and then you repurchase

    • I think its 14 days to return for a full refund (youtubers do this, order all the models on release and return all but maybe one to keep)

  • Can you use the $240 gift card for iCloud subscriptions like you would any other Apple gift card? I assume you just add it to your account balance?

    • Apple Music and iCloud subs yes.

      AppleCare+ subs no.

      • wow, thats dissapointing

        • You can buy apple care yes. But you must use gift card, not add it to your account and then use

  • Guys,

    Real Question,

I want the Macbook Air M2, With 16Gb, because 8Gb is not enough, what a joke,

The ultimate Mac is the 15 inch Air M2, with 512gb ssd & 16gb Ram.

Where can i get a deal on this?

      Real Question,

Great all previous questions were unreal

      No joke, but ok

The ultimate Mac is the 15 inch Air M2, with 512gb ssd & 16gb Ram.

      Maybe for you

Where can i get a deal on this?

Not from Apple. They don’t sell it anymore

It's hilarious how an Apple discount post brings Ozbargainers into an all out, traditional brawl. Love it. The passion is there!

  • Any reason i can't buy 5% off gift cards from Macquarie to use on this?

  • How much is Apple Care on M3 Air?

  • Is the gift card like a Visa or something you can use anywhere, or is it apple gift card?

    • +1

Apple gift card that can be added to your Apple ID balance

      • Which is next to useless as they removed ability to pay for AppleCare+ from it. And I think iCloud subs too.

  • +2

Does the invoice mention the gift card? Wondering if it is possible to claim 28 degrees price protection with the AOC price.

    • +1

Last time I bought into a similar deal (Apple TV + gift card) they deduct the value of the gift card from the purchase price of the item… so you also get a reduced GST refund too if you're travelling.

    • +1

They sent me two separate invoices.

      One for $240 gift card.
One for MBA, which is the full price minus $240.

  • +1

Ended up pulling the trigger after getting a gift card 5% of at RedeemYouGiftCard. Thanks OP!

For anyone curious, the shell is basically identical to the M2 based on my research so a skin for an M2 should fit perfectly. I ordered one from Gadgetshieldz.

    • +2

Same here. Next minute there will be 15% off Apple gift cards :P

  • +1

15" M3 MBA delivered this morning. Loving the midnight colour which is supposedly more smudge resistant.

  • Thanks Op went ahead with the m3 Micbook air with 16G ram. The $240 gift card could come in handy

    • did u also go with 512gb?

  • They’re up to M3 model and we still can’t use it open with extra two screens at the same time. What a joke!

    • Well, that’s a reasonably key difference between the Air and Pro. If you need more, pay more?

      • Isn’t it cheaper to buy 2 x Airs and have 4 screens?

    • Could you please share about this limitation? As I’m interested in getting MBA M3 15”
      Thanks

      • +1

They’ve improved it with the MBA M3. You can now connect 2 external screens (previous gen only supported 1 external) but only when the laptop lid is closed.

        • brilliant, thanks for getting back to me!

  • +2

I’m still rocking hard with the early 2015 MacBook Pro base model. Gotta say these Macs last long if you buy on a good year Mac. A bad year Mac early 2016 model broke just 1-2 years after.

    • +1

Same, I’m still using MBP mid 2015 15”, but battery live is going down the hill, and I felt I need lighter laptop too, and my line of work with everything on SaaS, no longer need for a power horse laptop

thus the reason planning to look for MBA

  • Between GPU cores, RAM, and SSD, SSD has the least performance impact.

Ideally one would want 10-core GPU and 16GB RAM, but that will cost $135 + $300 on the entry spec.

It makes one think might as well pay $165 more to get the high spec with 512GB SSD.

Ordinarily, the additional 256GB storage is not worth $165, let alone $300. But when it is soldered on and not reasonably upgradable, it is worth considering.

Apple has gave some thought into the pricing structure.

    • It makes one think might as well pay $165 more to get the high spec with 512GB SSD.

it seems that you might be complicating things - the extra $300 from base to next spec, upgrades GPU/SSD thus:

      • M2 13": 8C/256GB -> 10C/512GB
      • M3 13": 8C/256GB -> 10C/512GB
      • M3 15": 10C/256GB -> 10C/512GB

in other words, for both 13", the GPU upgrade is effectively free, when compared against the cost of an SSD upgrade alone

      hence for an M3 13", the $300 budget upgrade choice is between RAM 8GB -> 16GB and GPU/SSD 8C/256GB -> 10C/512GB

      i generally recommend ram

the $600 cost of upgrading all three RAM/GPU/SSD on the lowest base model, is the same as the price difference to the top base model

      • That's what I was saying, for a M3, to get both 10-Core GPU and 16GB RAM, there are 3 options:

        1) Base Spec + $135 + $300
        2) Mid Spec + $300
        3) High spec + $0

Option 2 and 3 are the same. Option 1 is only $165 less, then might as well pay that and get 256GB additional storage.

It would be more sensible if the Mid Spec comes with 10-Core GPU and 16GB RAM, of course Apple knows that, so they deliberately not do that.

        • sure, but just remember that whilst the absolute incremental costs are generally the same regardless, relatively they of course aren’t, so a $300 upgrade is 21% or 18% more than the cheapest M2 or M3, respectively, which is significant for some

        • +1

          1) Base Spec + $135 + $300

          This is wrong

          • @snvl: How so?

            • $135 upgrade to 10-Core GPU
            • $300 upgrade to 16BG RAM
            • +2

              @browser:

M3 chip with 10-core GPU included as upgrade with selection of 16GB memory or higher, or 512GB SSD storage or higher.

              • @snvl: This is good news, was not aware by upgrading to 16GB RAM automatically includes 10-Core GPU.

Then it would be an easy decision to go Base Spec + $300 for 16GB RAM.

                • @browser:

Then it would be an easy decision to go Base Spec + $300 for 16GB RAM.

                  too easy - thanks @snvl :)

        • +1

Option 2 and 3 are the same

Strangely, I ordered Option 2 because I wanted Option 3 but the shipping time on 2 was way less. So I’m wondering if I will receive the MPN of the high spec or a CTO of the mid-spec. Seems a weird thing. I wonder if there is a “real” difference.

Find out next week I guess.

  • +1

Anyone know if the M3 256GB model has the same SSD slowdown with the single NAND chip from the M2 models?

    • Good point, may be that's the justification to just go for 512GB SSD, along with 10-Core GPU and 16GB RAM.

      • I agree with the justification but my wallet doesn't.

        • It’s not an issue

      • I was hoping to use the $300 to go 24GB RAM and make it more future-proof - not too convinced about needing 512GB with everyone using cloud storage, but this has made me think otherwise.. bit frustrating.

    • +1

Okay, just read more into it, Apple didn't deliberately slow down the SSD by software, it's just the nature of a single 256GB chip is slower than 2 x 128GB chips.

Going by that logic, the M3 will most likely be the same.

  • do you have to be a student to get this, how are they checking? Or can anyone buy from the education store?

    • Anyone, it's doesn't check.

      • Checked mine, all good though

        • They probably checked for identification purposes, but not to check student status.

Parents, family members, friends can buy for a student. They don't really care to verify.

  • There's talk that the air overheats due to no fan, thereby throttling the performance of the m3 chip. Bit disappointing, but is it still a decent machine? Anyone got it yet? I would like to use it for coding, just hope it's not running hot all the time. Close to pulling the pin on 16gb/512gb. Been reading some m3 air users that been buying and installing cheap heatsinks for the chip, getting a bit more performance. Years ago we used these small flat silicon pads that went ice cold with a current, not sure why these are not a thing anymore?

    • +1

Was reading up on that too and have been tossing up between the M3 Air 15' 16/512 and the MBP M3 14' 16/512. Opted for the 15' Air after reading about it all day and don't think will be a problem. I used to have an M1 MBP for work and this thing never went above idle even with a 4K screen attached, so I think the M3 will be just fine for normal users.

  • Question: When I tried on Apple website, it is allowing me to place delivery order without any Edu/Uni details. Can anyone help if it is OK to place order as guest. And I will not get charged more or later? And will get this Apple gift card too?

    • +2

Yup order online all good. Yes you will get it. Many in here already done it. That's why it's a deal. 😬

      • Thank you

  • Is the offer expire after midnight or tmw will be the last day?
Want to take advantage of gift card promotion at Woolies which starts tmw.

    • which card?

      • Coles mastercard giftcard . In store only tho

      • I was thinking Teens card, and swap those to Apple's at JB

  • anyone successfully being able to do software development on MBA m3 16gb/512gb? Think its doable?

  • +1

See this ends on Wednesday, thought I'd hold out until Monday to see if the upcoming Coles / Woolies / Big W catalogues that kick off on Wednesday would have discount or x20 points Apple gift cards… nada!
Also tried Shopback / Cashrewards - couldn't see any Apple gift cards there with cash back
Anyone found any other channels selling discount Apple gift cards?

    • I got 5% off at Redeem Your Gift Card… but not sure if they still allow registrations.

edit: Check this page out - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

      • I did see your comment above, tried to add gift cards to cart but couldn't work out how it gets discounted.

      • Thanks for the link.. just checked it out. The only one I have access to is PO Box Rewards which is showing 4% off - however on the actual PO Box Rewards site it has no Apple gift cards, may be out of date I assume.

I was looking to buy the MBA 15 for $1999 with the $240 gift card.
It's $2199 at Jb, they quite often do 10% off, which will make it $1979 at some stage.
I have a heap of JB gift cards that I bought at 15% off some time ago which I was going to hold onto for bigger appliances, might just use it on this (also a bigger discount compared to this when I take a 15% off the gift cards price I paid).
I think I'm just going to let this deal go.

        • can one still buy apple gift cards at jb with ultimate cards, or have they now stopped that?

issue with jb is that i don’t think that one can order cto, and i generally always recommend upgrading to 16gb

          • @tonester: I’ve had JB price match Edu store with a CTO before. Some people have also mentioned in the past JB matching the bonus gift card deals too, but not sure if they still do.

    • +2

I used Shopback supermarket (2.25% off) to get Ultimate Everyone from Woolies (10% off) and exchanged them at JB for Apple gift card.

But YMMV coz I was giving shit at JB but store manager approved it as I have written proof from online chat saying its doable.

      • Never know why they write procedures then make it up as they go anyway

        • They did have the T&C written up about not allowing gift card for gift card. But I was confirmed by two different rep from JB saying its doable before I went purchasing ulitmate cards

          • @moneytomyway: I called 3 stores around Melbourne last week when I saw this deal - all flat out said no we dont do that anymore.
I guess it boils down to who you get on the day maybe.
Obviously its doable through their POS system.

          • @moneytomyway: I remember looking into it and the not buying gift cards with gift cards was relating to their in store gift cards, I recall specifically there was wording that allowed you to use the ultimate ones - I've done it several times by adding them to apple wallet without issues (they don't know or check normally). Might have been changed recently.

            • @Fancydancer: Yeah dunno about Ultimate gift cards, I've actually got JB Giftcards on hand (not other brands)

            • @Fancydancer: They probably didn't know or didn't care given you are using Apple Pay.

Guess I was lucky to triple check before popping to the counter.

  • +1

Thanks. Ordered in last hour after lot of yes or no. Hopefully it is worth its hype.
