      @JXXY1337: It's called "Greedflation"

Dr Jim Stanford (Director at the Australia Institute’s Centre for Future Work) said “Empirical evidence shows excess corporate profits are the main culprit driving inflation, not workers’ wages.”

        Just buy some AAPL

        • Get in on the ground floor!

  • Can someone please confirm if I need to show any student ID upon pick up?

    • No

  • +4

LOL! Many places are still selling M1 Air at full retail $1,499.

  • Anyway to use my ultimate gift card (jb, Officeworks etc) to purchase this? Possibly by purchasing apple gift card somehow? Would anyone know?

  • I just bought the macbook air m2 using gift cards 2 weeks ago from apple employee program website. Can I claim price difference with apple?

    • +1

if it's exactly 2wks, then contact apple NOW for return/refund
      https://www.apple.com/au/shop/help/returns_refund

      • Nah, any Apple employee program would not get you the bonus, same as the AOC.

        • +1

sure, but we're talking about price difference, not bonus

Can I claim price difference with apple?

          • @tonester: Today is Day 15 :(
It's already crossed 9pm so tomorrow will be day 16. I doubt apple will honour price drop. A 100$ price difference + a 240$ gift card can get me an airpod.

  • Is this the expected best price for release?

Im no fanboy of any company, and I have heaps of apple products.

But 8gb ram, no matter how optimised the OS is, is absolutely abysmal

    • -6

So, heaps of Apple products…but not a Mac with 8gb, and no experience ever using one? OK

    • But 8gb ram, no matter how optimised the OS is, is absolutely abysmal

I always see comments like this but no-one can ever justify why. I'm using a PC with 8GB right now with 2 browsers and 24 tabs open and Slack and Spotify and I'm only using 6GB.
8GB is more than enough for most casual users.

    • Overall I agree, but I had a M1 Pro 2020 with 8GB and never hit the RAM limit for work, emulators, etc.

  • +2

With the new integrated shared memory, our new starting storage options will be 8GBs, with an upgrade to 256GBs for only $2000

  • Is it getting worth getting the M3 for $210 extra?

  • Reckon they have actually fixed the fingerprint issues on the Midnight colour?

    • Seem to be making a big deal out of the new coating… I had the midnight blue air 13” m2 for my work laptop and it got ugly real quick so let’s see. Planning to get the 15” this time.

      • I’ve never had issues with fingerprints on my midnight air.. always find it strange people complaining about it

        • Maybe because it was my work laptop and endured my oily fingers a lot.

    • The refresh announcement did say the midnight colour has “a breakthrough anodization seal to reduce fingerprints
So I think it would be similar to the space black MacBook Pro.

fyi cashback currently only available via ShopBack (1.2%) - expect this to change soon so order asap

  • I've never bought an Apple product around its release date.

Do you guys think there will be long lines this weekend for the M3 Air (or better to buy online)? I can't imagine this will have the same hype as a new iPhone, or a face-lift laptop.

    • unless you've too many gift cards to use, why wouldn't you order online for cashback?

      • Getting the laptop quicker is worth the ~$20 loss from CashBack for me. But I can imagine shipping would be relatively quick to metro areas.

        • Why not order it online and do a pick up in store (if the config you want is available for pick up on launch day?)

          • @FrugalNotStingy: No pickup option available

            • @snvl: Oh yes, I can see that now but currently all non CTO models are still available for launch day delivery.

    • +1

I would order now, they could end the gift card promotion or exclude the m3 air at any time

Anyone know what's the difference with this AOC edu Union link? Seems $60-$80 cheaper.

    • +4

I believe you don't get the gift card

    • +3

But you don't get the $240 gift card

  • +3

I'd rather buy this than spend 3k for an iphone

    • +6

You will need to update your pants

    8gb ram is not enough…

    • Agreed, but can always upgrade to 16gb with Apple’s rip off price of $300 (Edu pricing).

      • Really? i bought the M1 version a few years ago, when all those youtubers claimed 8gb would be enough. I am not saying that's BS (that is!), but i certainly would appreicate 16gb as a minimum…

        • +3

Although I never used any ARM Macs with 8gb memory, I know for my workflow it will not be enough. 8gb maybe okay for web surfing, word processing, spreadsheet, video conferencing and the odd (light) photo/video editing/CAD etc.

I would really recommend paying the $300 premium and up the memory to 16gb to prevent future regrets in particular for people who will keep their MacBook for >=5 years

Can someone get us that 8% deal from Shopback again? How often do they come?

    • +6

      When you don’t need it

      • It was around when the education store first had this gift card offer a month or so ago. So was perfect for m3 pros, wondering if they’ll do it again during the period

  • How's Parallels likely to behave on these?

    • It will extend its multiple tentacles into every reaches of your MacOS until you wail, "Enough!"

Then you will bin that whole partition to purge it from existence.

But Windows runs fine. I had 16GB, so not sure about 8GB.

      • But Windows runs fine.

        Arm one I guess.

  • FML, I just bought the MacBook Air M2 512GB 8GB Ram 13inch on Sunday for $2,099 with education discount. Does Apple pay the difference if I go in? Or do I have to return it?

      • I bought a Macbook Air M2, 13 inch 16GB. I picked it up on Monday and Apple dropped the price on Tuesday from $1919 to $1709. I called them and they're refunding me the $210.

Have a macbook pro, air, and my mate has the new macbook pro 16 ive used.

Sorry but the Air is useless unless you just want a mac to look cool while having your coffee.

Air has no fans so gets hot if you do anything remotely useful that actually uses your cpu. I mean really hot where you notice it a lot and don't want to put it on your lap and then i was constantly trying to put it somewhere cooler.

It also has only 8gb ram which is ridiculous.

All the braindead fanboys will tell you "it's fine for what i do". Well if all you do is check emails and browse websites then you are better off with a cheap laptop sub $1000 or an ipad.

Macbook pros have fans and are actually useful.

If you need a proper computer to do things with eg use software then get a pro.

If you just intend to browse the internet and check emails then get a cheap laptop, ipad or use your phone

    • +2

agree, but don't tell me what to do.

    • +1

If you just intend to browse the internet and check emails then get a cheap laptop

This is a cheap laptop from Apple.
      I mean, "Apple cheap".

    • +3

I have a M1 Max 16 with 64gb ram and had an m2 MacBook air with 8gb for a while. The air was very capable given the specs, better than any surface device I had into the past. This comment is nonsense.

    • +6

Get off your high horse, the M3 is fine for 95% of the population, not everyone is an overpaid techy who needs 24C/64gb Ram.

      • not everyone is an overpaid techy who needs 24C/64gb Ram.

        128GB Ram*

We also like these light macbooks for the portability and battery life. Can always remote into our 24C/128GB rigs ;)

    • +2

My macbook air lasted 12 years, took it with me everywhere because of its portability. It outlasted any other laptops or tablets I ever owned.

There are people who do more than just browse the internet but not necessarily going to do super heavy cpu tasks — I can’t believe there are still people who think they isn’t anything in between.

    • Did a lot of bookkeeping work for my business with Air. Lightweight n quite capable piece of engineering.

  • just bought M2 yesterday.
    need to return it

  • I bought entry level m2 less then a month ago. I wish i can get a new price or the m3 at that price. 😔

    • +3

      should have waited for m4

      • Why not m5?

        • +1

          some gate problems

Probs worth checking if your within the return period if you purchased from Apple direct

    • You could speak to someone at apple. I once mentioned to them I was annoyed that the RRP price of a high-end MB pro I bought dropped a few hundred dollars since I bought it and they gave me a free magic mouse/keyboard

  • I wish they announce 15” too, similar to M2, helps the display estate and being easy with my four eyes (having glasses)…

    • +2

They did, there is a 15" MacBook Air M3 available

      • ah yes, missed that info when I look at the oz post.
They launched it on their website… cool!
        Thanks

  • what's the advantage in getting the lower 35W voltage USB-C power adapter?
I'd say better to get the 70W one due to faster charging?

  • Any easy way to get the education discount without actually being a student or teacher?

  • Just bought M1 from JB about two weeks ago 😭

  • So does Apple give $240 gc for all the new M3 model purchase? The aoc site said only M2 model?

  • What's the best way to use/sell the giftcard if you don't need anything else from the Apple store?

    • +1

Sell it on ozb or marketplace or gumtree?

  • Can you use the giftcard for applecare?

    • +1
      • the goat for all your helpful comments 🙏

      • +1

Thanks! Wish this had come out 6 weeks earlier, bought an m2 air base model for kids high school, hopefully it'll last a while! wish the apple tax on an extra 8gb wasn't $300, I'd have jumped on this for personal use! I wonder when Apple will make 16gb, or even 12gb the intro level, they can't keep it at 8GB much longer can they?

        • +1

they can't keep it at 8GB much longer can they?

          Apple said “challenge accepted “

      • But in store won't be eligible for 20% off right?

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/827306

        • Even if you buy the AppleCare+ online, it won’t be 20% off. It won’t show the correct 20% discount AppleCare+ price online. You have to go in store and buy it.

  • Will Air M3 worth upgrade from Pro M1 (2020)?

  • Ordered 15" M3 MBA 512 GB

    Apple education price = $2,299
Gift card offer = $240 back
    Sale of 13" M2 MBA = $1,200 ish

Overall around $850 to upgrade, not counting tax deductions/returns
