I wish this was 600g lighter, then this would be perfect.

    • The similar 14" with smaller battery and no graphics card is about 1.4kg, but unfortunately not many 16" in that weight division.

      • Would you happen to have a link to that one?

        • This was a recent but expired deal. Specs will vary depending on what Lenovo decide to have on sale that day.

IdeaPad Slim 5 14" Gen 9 AMD from $1059. Base configuration is R5 8645HS and upgrade to Ryzen 7 8845HS costs $150 extra. 400nits OLED also an $120 upgrade.

          • @scotty: Ooh, nice find

          • +1

@scotty: Got the Ryzen™ 7 8845HS version of this down to $1140 with chat

            • @EpicSpaceLord: I presume this arrangement would be ineligible for cashback?

            • @EpicSpaceLord: mind to share how did you get it? thinking of getting one for the ms. thank you.

            • @EpicSpaceLord: If it assists, I got the Slim 5 14” with 8845HS, OLED display, slim charger and 3yr premium warranty for $1318.

The split is $1129 for the laptop and $189 for the warranty. My rep was “MK”.

I clicked through with ShopBack just in case but not really expecting it to work.

    • And 1000 nits brighter with HDR.

    • LG Gram 16 any good for $1699? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833071
Not the same price bracket, but I love how lightweight my wife's one is.

nice, i have the 7735 with the 32gb ram model and its my daily driver (working in IT) and i love it.

    • Have the same config w 3yrs warranty. Battery not great. Was considering getting a 100w portable battery, but it's pretty heavy already.

      • mine is mostly desktop based then going into 1-2 hour meetings so not a huge issue for me
there is a lower power option in the lenovo software if you havent tried?

  • Looking for a Laptop like this - but with 32GB RAM or one slot upgradeable

    • +2

You can add 16gb more ram for $300….with the build your PC button. Bit rich, but it's an option.
With cashback it comes to $1443.48

      • Yes it's high for extra gb. Given the code is MARCH the deal may stay till the end of month unless OOS. You can wait for higher cashback from Shopback. They have been known to offer upto 15% for Lenovo in the past

        Lenovo's learning Apple's upgrade tricks ;-)

        • I think that's $600 for an extra 8gb

  • anything in 14" ?

      Raises hand.

  • This is really good

  • anyone has usbc charging port faulty issue lead to motherboard replacement?

    • Had this issue with an older lenovo laptop. Just too much flex with the port and starts to come off if you are not been careful when the charging cable is connected.
Luckily was able to get someone to resolder the usb port and now back up and running again.

This is pretty good the 780M would do some light 1080P gaming on games

  • +1

Will 16GB cause an issue for light gaming on the 780M? Not sure if should jump to the 32GB for $300

    • +1

      No, it'll be fine

    • +1

It's more about RAM speed. I have a 680M in a mini PC and it works well for older games.

Good deal. But I dont know why you are comparing it to the 7840u, when it is simply a rebranded 7840HS.

Dont fall into amd’s marketing folks, they are just as scammy as intel in naming their chips.

    • Well it's not because they actually chaged the AI NPU vs the 7840HS. A rebrand would be keeping the same specs or changing clocks but not updating anything else in the hardware like some Intel 14th gen.

      • AI NPU is useless in 99% of workloads, the gains here are every bit like 14th gen refresh or the ultras - little performance upgrade except an updated name.

If anything, a few intel 14th gen actually saw clear gains - the 14700/500/450HX are all on B0 stepping now and offers clear performance and efficiency gains over their 13th gen counterpart.

Anyone got any insights on how the thermals of these non gaming laptops will perform when running the 780M underload?

I do a bit of travel and i am sick of carrying around a gaming laptop and an additional powerbrick haha.

Guys any good options with a touch screen for a year 12 student? Something they can use later in uni.

  • Hows this for content creation woth davinci resolve.
Will use a desktop pc mainly.
However would like to draft ideas together while im at work and will finish them off on the pc at home

  • Worth checking to see if Lenovo have disabled some features of the CPU:

    https://github.com/amd/RyzenAI-SW/issues/18

  • Anyone know if the hinge issues affect this gen?

    • What's the hinge issues?
