Steel wheels with hub caps in 2025. $898 more for the Excite is much better.

Do not worry on resale value

Only if that car still running after 10 years 🤣

Not sure what is the issue?

A car company is offering a car at reasonable price and warranty so that many Oz can afford.

Not everyone has deep pocket of 70 - 80k. I have seen 100s of MG on highways as well as in suburbs..

        • +15

I have seen 100s of MG on highways as well as in suburbs..

Most of which are less than 5 years old.

Read people's experiences of waiting time for parts and warranty service.

@shxhshzhz: Exactly, so far my MG4 has been an absolute shit show and dealers are doing nothing about it. About to go to ACCC

              @sushimaster: What issues

            • +4

              @sushimaster: Mind sharing what's the issue ?

            • +1

@sushimaster: Always pretty much go straight to the the consumer watchdog. If you don't get assistance straight away, raise the complaint in store somewhat loudly in their sales area.

            • +2

@sushimaster: I though everyone was having a great time with their MG4s - please share more about your experience

                @King Tightarse: Tl;dr
                - oxidised plastic on exterior
                - over spray inside the vehicle, you could see white paint everywhere Inside the body panels
                - The front bumper is pushed inwards, and the corners of the bumper are noticeably raised compared to both the test vehicle and the showroom vehicle.
                - The chip on the bonnet paint was not fixed.
                - The front left passenger side issue remains unresolved.
                - The windscreen wiper location, where the wiper meets the bonnet also had paint chip. They used touched up pen to fix it.
                - Airbag and brake warnings appeared in the MG iSMART app. No one has explained why these appeared or whether any codes were cleared. This is concerning, as unresolved warning lights can indicate ongoing safety issues
                - The car had a low tire pressure warning at pick-up, which is unusual if the car underwent a proper service. This raises concerns that no thorough inspection was performed, and only a superficial clean was done. (Only received keys on first service pickup, no records)
                - Tyre shine was applied only to the left rear tire, causing me to slip sideways twice. I have since cleaned it off myself, as this posed a significant safety risk.

I've also picked up a Toyota corolla cross 2 weeks later and the experience was much better. No issue and the dealers didn't try to push the car out. (I've listed these issues but MG argued that they will fix it within warranty

                • +1

@sushimaster: Almost sounds like it had a prang on the boat and it's been poorly fixed

                  • +2

@OZBMate8911: I agree. Misaligned, slightly raised bumper and airbag warning suggests an impact. I suppose you could ask a panel beater for their opinion.
Paint chips fixed with paint pen sounds pretty dodgy. I never heard of that before with a new car
As for over spray on the interior. Not exactly sure. Would need to see a photo to understand. There is always some overspray but it is usually covered with trim panels.
I think I read another owner talk about oxidised plastics. Guess they are not quite ready for the hot Aussie sun

                    • +1

@King Tightarse: Agree with everything you've said. We will see how it goes but the bumper alignment is quite bad and obvious to any untrained eye. Dealer had the audacity to said it was normal and pushed it out. If I wasn't desperate for a car I really should've refused the delivery….. Oh well we move on and learn :)

                • +7

                  @sushimaster:

                  • Tyre shine was applied only to the left rear tire, causing me to slip sideways twice. I have since cleaned it off myself, as this posed a significant safety risk.

And just like that credibility gone

                  • @Drakesy: Lol I didn't even notice that ahha, it was left on the tyre thread 🤣 on both wheels 🤡

                • -1

@sushimaster: You sound really hard to please…

                • -1

@sushimaster: Did you not look over the car before taking ownership, looks like a you problem unfortunately. I would have walked away!

                  • @BatmanAU: Read my message above, I did and pointed them all out. They said they will fix it under warranty (which they have not)
Ultimately this is your money so if this is a good deal to you by all means buy the car. I'm advising against it based on my experience with their services. We learn and move on.

                    • -1

@sushimaster: Understand your comment, but I would absolutely and utterly not buy ANYTHING let alone a $20k car with damage, that’s just down right moronic. Unless you took a discount off it, then again moronic even more.

        • +2

I have seen 100s of MG on highways as well as in suburbs..

Even Toyota, not every model are that reliable, normally 10 years warranty a lot of stuffs are not cover.

        • +2

Those who don't have deep pocket would buy used cars. I've never bought brand new cars.

          • +5

@OzHan: Because everyone wants to go through the headache of shopping used cars and have the basic knowledge of spotting red flags?

There's a market for people who don't give a sh*t what they drive and just want to get from a to b with minimal thought.

            • @krisspy: Yea as if buying an el cheapo MG won't give you any headache.. ;-)

              • -2

@OzHan: Agree, I got this knowing that there would be issues…but not this bad :")

        • Agree with you. Since the pandemic car prices have skyrocketed. Honda Accord for $65k.. anyone? These used to be 29k driveway on Eofy offer just before 2020..

          • +1

@ChaLuo: Accord has priced itself out of the market for ages.

            • @OzHan: Honda in general after they went to fixed price system

              Mechanically still good brand

rather just spend a bit more on a FL5 Type R if you don't mind driving stick. All you could ever need from a Japanese sedan.

at least they maintain their RV really, really well.

      • If you bought a used Rav4 for this price it wouldn't be running very well 10 years from now.

Yet Aussies on here bang on and on about how good the new Suzuki Swifts are with their 80s no center console/armrest style. Its only a value $25,000 to be able to go back in time

depending on the company you can also salary scarfice this card and get about 35% of and no tax on it too.

      • Say hello to my little fiend.

        • apparently people don't like saving money lol salary scarfice works great for cars.

Mg is probably the one Chinese brand that I absolutely don't trust. The others are a bit unknown but broadly seem good enough. I'd look at haval or Chery instead personally.

$25k would be better spent on a couple year old used corolla.

    • -1

I'd rather the mg with 10 year warranty and ~24,000 km worth of fuel than a 2 year old corolla!

      • +10

        LOL enjoy the MG

      • +11

You'll need the 24,000kms worth of fuel to get you to the dealer and back lol

        • ?

          • @MrZ: Average boonies resident

      • +9

I'd rather a car that is reliable and has parts available (reports of people with longgggg waits for parts, so it's free but you have no car in the meantime)

        • -4

She is much better and beautiful than toyoto carol.

      • +1

Having driven an MG3, I would rather a 10 year old Hyundai i20, it will drive better.

The MG3 is horribly underpowered with a sloppy gearbox and poor handling. I'm not against the brand, I would buy an MG ZS

    • +4

      2020 corrola with 80km

      • +15

currently looking on carsales and seeing 2021 and 22 model corollas with less than 60,000kms for the 25k mark. Significantly better financial decision than an MG.

        • Do they come with a 10 year warranty?

    • +2

As a person without too much knowledge on cars, I wouldn't trust buying from a small dealer or private sale. The cheapest toyota corolla at my local official toyota dealer is a base 2018 toyota corolla costing $24k. With 3 year warranty. https://www.parramattatoyota.com.au/used-car/toyota/corolla/…
However, I still wouldn't choose this mg car. I'd rather spend a bit more and get the cheapest byd dolphin.

      • Your comment sounds like an Ad

        • How? Spending 24k for a 7 year old toyota corolla is madness. That thing probably costed that much when it was new.

      • If it's a toyato and it's been serviced

And the person is an accountant your fine

    • +2

They are selling Corolla for brand new MG or other EVs

  • +1

Go from A to B, just not up a hill because it can't 😂

  • +40

Took it for a test drive, definitely didn't feel the Vibe, didn't Excite me much and there was also no Essence to it.

    • +1

I tried talking my son into one 18months ago when he got his license . Seemed like a no brainer with 7 years warranty .
We took one for a drive and holy crap it was utterly soul sucking .
I once drove a Lada about 20 years ago and that was worse but not by much .

      • +2

Hey we owned a niva, they were great.

Made to be easily user serviceable. Excellent off road.

The only real downside was pretty much zero safety features.

      • What did he end up getting?

        • +1

          2014 VelosterTurbo with 84K for 7.5K .
I think it was a good deal at the time as he really wanted a manual and fire/theft insurance was not too bad .

          • @troyww: Hope he's responsible heh. Those little things are pocket rockets! Easy to speed in.

That's a pretty good deal though. Update the head unit and speakers maybe and get it detailed and it'll be like a new car assuming no previous damage!

            • +2

@ReaperX22: LOL , It reaches full operating temperature by the time it has reached the end of the street .
The Turbo actually came with a nice stereo system with a seperate amp under the seat . He did add a smallish 10" kicker sub .
Considering the ridiculous prices at the time it was a bargain . There was a guy waiting to test drive it after us .

                • @Mikinoz: He paid for it himself so it was his choice . The rod failure mentioned in that article was actually improved by 2014 .
He did actually do a bit of research .
End of the day he was 18 and likely to kill whatever he bought so 7.5k is a relatively low investment . It's been almost 2 years now so it's doing OK .
My father always told us that you don't drive old cars you nurse them . We didn't listen :)

      • You should try driving a Yugo

    • +1

Very good service from MG though giving you all three versions to test

      • Sounds like all 3 were the same car, staff just had to clip some bits on for the upgrades

  • The vibe would qualify for instant asset write off for those looking EOFY.

  • +1

if you are worried about resale dont buy this car

    • +4

LOL , Plenty of Luxury cars that lose more than the total worth of this thing once driven out of the showroom .

      • -4

        MG isnt a luxury car

        • +4

Yes we know, but buying some 80k cars would lose 20k one year later.

This is so cheap if you just need to go to work or something it is fine. It wont lose as much as luxury car is the point.

          • +3

@Kommodore: I think the point is, if you're buying a $20k car you're unlikely to be in the same market as a $80k car.

            • @itshammer: You will find that cars this cheap will lose less value than a more expensive vehicle, both in $ and % terms. The bottom end of the market has more demand.

And before you decide that this is different because the reputation of MG is so low, remember how many Holden Cruze you see on the road.

          • +1

            @Kommodore: Old mate thinking about buying a BMW M2 isnt cross-shopping a MG3

    • How many batteries so I need to instal to make this an electric car?

    • At least there ain’t much to loose at $21k

  • -2

    MG3 Vibe CVT $21,990

I remember the days when MG was a luxury car and Toyota was a poor man's car. Now MG is a poor man's car and Toyota is a luxury.

    • -8

      Toyota is anything but luxury.
I don't care about reliability, you'll never catch me driving one.

      • +3

They have cars other than Corolla and Camry.
