yeah i unfortunately have to go back to intel on my next upgrade. the Ryzen 7 5800X has been a good trooper though. but its ashame the 7000 series didn't' get thunderbolt controller support like the 5000 series did. So now I have to go to intel for thunderbolt. As much as I like the 7000 series I value thunderbolt support higher.
buying an objectively worse CPU platform just so you can use a particular USB type is wild
thunderbolt is not usb C.
very different standard to usb C and thunderbolt 5 is the only thing that does 80gbps
I run thunderbolt monitors, thunderbolt storage devices and thunderbolt docks.so thunderbolt is very important to me.
@jasswolf: you can't because the 7000s series don't support thunderbolt at all. you can't just plug in a thunderbolt pci e card in with thunderbolt with out the motherboard having thunderbolt connectors on the board. So its not as simple as that with thunderbolt. its fully intergraded
@kungfuman: At least some cards have their own headers these days, as Thunderbolt was made royalty-free 6 years ago.
Take a closer look.
And failing there being any ASMedia cards that will work on AMD USB4 boards, ASMedia have confirmed they're working on USB4 v2 controllers, which are basically TB5.
@jasswolf: thunderbolt only devices don't support USB 4 they only support thunderbolt. and usb 4 doesn't have the option for thunderbotl 5 device support because usb 4 can;t do 80gbps because no devices support it with usb 4.
@kungfuman: The point of the board having ASMedia USB4 chips is so that there's interoperability with ASMedia TB5 chips. It's not well documented though.
USB4 v2 chips would probably be a better basis for such an add-in card working.
It's both a fabricated problem - e.g likely $$$ in this case.
It's not "just" a USB connector, it uses the connector but as old mate mentioned his needs require that.
Somehow I'm still waiting for a 5950X / AM4 deal
My motherboard is still dang solid.
Thanks mate!
thank you!!!
I had forgotten how truly atrocious the naming scheme for that SKU was, even by AMD's standards
It's just a way they can sell the 5950X with a worse bin
@ldd-mn: I know, but that doesn't mean it at all follows their established naming conventions. At no other point has Ryzen non-X / X / XT meant a change in core count. It should've been called a 5950 non-X, or if they really wanted the X they could've gone with 5940X or something, idk.
Using the name 5900XT for a 5950X-but-a-sliver-lower-clocks is just confusing.
Im on a 5900X, great cpu, have you looked ay the 5900XT at all?
Lolll AMD naming…. Smh
Thats just a underclocked 5950X I reckon.
Didn't pull the trigger as it is from Amazon US.
RMA may be painful
Nice find!
I think it is ATL for a Au stock
You can get it for AU $760 if you use the code SSPLUS instead of JUL2025. not sure if that is targeted though?
Somehow i got it down to $760.30
The below codes are what is showing up as being usedSSPLUS
XMASJULY25The SSPLUS code only for Ebay Plus members it's telling me.
Its free to sign up
Not if you have signed up before without stuffing around making a new account
@dreamstation: if you have a gmail account you could try to ad a +ebay to the user name eg, [email protected], i set up a trakted account that way so i could sync my sisters plex watched episodes if i ever had to reload plex onto my server,
You can get 1 month of Ebay Plus for $4.99 so it's still worth it (just don't forget to cancel the auto renewal).
Damn already put order through before seeing the other code and it won't let me cancel the other order!
buy another one and contact seller to cancel the first one
That's for the 7800X3D
Yeah sorry.
Using SSPLUS from its page can get down to A$ 760.30
Yep but have to have ebay plus
Just had Pc built with 7500f and 5070, is it worth waiting out a few years and upgrade processor or changing it out now?
whats money worth to you?
Yeah I’ll wait it out.
You're comparing completely different ends of the AMD desktop CPU spectrum, so it is extremely hard to say.
If you're buying local, at this price it is worth the premium over the 7800X3D. If you're willing to buy from Aliexpress, then the ~$450 price point is hard to beat in terms of performance-per-dollar
Where can you get it for $450?
quite regularly on Aliexpress postings, got mine for around $430

expired now but posted 3 days agohttps://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/910922
also expired but posted a few weeks agoset an alert you'll see one soon enough
In upcoming sales it'll be more like $380 vs $550 when considering discounts and cashbacks, but that might be in November.
thanks just bought a 1 month ebay plus and $700 gift card. so end up spend $760.30 +$5-$28= $737.3. This is a very good price for an AU stock
I saw it in 51 carts and an aussie ATL - pulled the trigger.
Not wrong though.
It's a deal, but as I wrote, it's a "meh price." I still stand by that. $600 is the real deal for me and what I'm telling others.
Prime day just around the corner. Should you wait?
amazon doesn't have stock
Nope, Prime Day is more a marketing ploy than a sales even these days.
Not supposed to be upgrading until the end of the year but so tempting to do it now given the good pricing on 9070XT and CPUs.
Fingers crossed we see the same level of discounting or better for Nov/Dec promos.
Any recommendations on motherboard?
from the reviews i've come across, you can't go wrong with ASRock atm
i went with the B650I Lightning for my ITX buildfor gaming rigs, thats just what you're gonna have to pay
@bible bob: I will wait for the prime deal tonight to see any good deal for MB and RAM. I have a 10 year old machine and I still can use the old PSU, SSD and GPU
Says $760.30 for me
My current MB is about to die. Buying a new one means upgrading the whole platform as it's AM4. This deal is right on time. Ending up paying $729.9, thanks!
Tell me I don't need this when i just bought a 7800X3D from ali express for $410 lol
You need this and i will buy the 7800x3d off you lol
This website is a bad influence lol
Great price and finally pulled the trigger!
Thanks, bought 1! this has to be ATL!!
Appears that they’ve jacked the price up in response to the attention. Lowest I can get it is $825 with eBay plus
Second this. Can only get down to $895 without Plus.
I paid $860 and this an absolute bargain and an amazing cpu!!
