Basically it's either porn or games that pushes next gen technology… Ah to dream of the future…

      • +7

Don't forget war as one of the main driving factors behind the invention and breakthroughs of many common household tech we use today.

Radar and the discovery of it's heating properties explain why we are now able cook food in a microwave oven. Raytheon, a US defense contractor company filed the first patent for microwave cooking technology in 1945.

        • +1

Start a war you say? Our pm has you covered.

        • +4

War, porn, and videogames. Everything a growing boy needs.

        • +1

don't forget for laser hair removal we can thank the cold war

    • Bah I commented on someone's comment, that comment unpublished so I can't see what happened. Have zero recollection of even commenting in this thread!

  • +2

    i have one of these

its amazing. reccomend it to anyone

  • is this 100% confirmed work with up to 6" phones? i have 5.7" note 3.

    • Phone size, not screen size.

    • consumer review demos it with a note 3 so…yeah

  • Anyone know if a Oneplus One would fit?

    • +1

      Yes it will fit.

  • I have am Xperia Z ultra so I don't think it'll fit.

Are these basically fancy Google cardboard type things?

    • Except they are much comfier, has an adjustable strap and the lens are wider and bigger so you get a better field of view.

      • yep they look a bit better than cardboard too

      • Ah might hold off for gen 3, I use an old nexus 4 with cardboard, it's Ok but waiting for the apps to get better.

    • I juuuust managed to squeeze mine in a different brand but it just squished all the buttons so it didn't work :'(

  • Any of these for iPhone 6 plus?

  • +2

    Mine shows $13.95

    • +1

      Use the coupon code.

      • AUD, Paypal conversion did it to everyone I think. I did use the coupon code.

  • Crap, I don't remember if I actually used the coupon code. I paid USD 10.28 for it. Did anyone pay a similar amount?

    • +1

I believe it's USD 9.99 after the coupon code

      • +21

Sheeet. I paid 29 US cents more than I'm supposed to?

I have lost face as an ozbargainer.

        • +1

Don't worry, I've bought this from somewhere else (it should be arriving soon). Paid $3 USD more. This is what I get for not waiting for a deal to pop-up on Ozbargain.

        • @AznMitch:

I paid about $40 for a similar one when they first came out, still don't regret it

        • @mr kindface: That's reassuring. I am going to tell myself that I will be getting it faster than people buying it now. :) I am still waiting for it to be delivered (it left China last month, it should be arriving soon, I hope).

  • +3

I'm a little behind the times. What exactly can you do with this?

Is there actual good content or is it more of a proof of concept?

    • +5

There were only a few good apps that made use of Cardboard but now there are some pretty good games and video experiences you can use with it

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sophia-dominguez/top-20-google…

      • Thanks. It seems the games are quite basic and the graphics in them are pretty bad.

The video experiences are quite short and unremarkable (ie. it's showcasing what VR can do but doesn't have the content to make people keep using it after the wow factor) from what I've seen.

I guess it's a good for some novelty value.

      • How does audio work? Does it have an outlet for the headphone jack?
Because typical phone speakers are quite horrible, I wonder if that effects the immersion of the 3D goggle effect. Thanks for the link!

      • Search #360video on YouTube, there's also a whole bunch of experiences from Jaunt on the app store.

  • +1

Ordered one… Thanks OP, great price.

  • +1

Just a heads up, if you try and pay using PayPal, it will try and charge you $13.95 (Paypals conversion rates suck?). Pay directly with credit card instead for $13.11.

Bought a cardboard a while back, but it was a little too cheap and crappy for a decent VR experience. Hopefully this fares a bit better.

    • +2

Credit card needs to pay currency conversion fee

      • yes but paypals conversion is worse than CC's conversion rate.

      • Citybank dont charge conversion fees.

        • +3

          Or 28 Degrees.

    • the site use outdated encryption certificate

  • Is there something similar for the Nexus 6 size? or would this fit?

    • -1

The gearbest staff on review video says this will fit galaxy note 4. Google the dimension, compare with your phone, you get the answer.

  • +8

Don't forget cashrewards has 8% cashback offer!

  • +1

The one thing this doesn't have is a hole for the camera, if you want to play with augmented reality. Although, I suppose you could make one…

  • +1

    bought one, thanks.

  • +1

Got one, cheers op! Lets hope it fits the Note 4..

  • Thanks got it with 8% cash back give it a go
Hopefully all good with iPhone 6

  • Can I use this on the bus?

  • paid $14.39 with paypal. just a bit extra not too fussed! can't wait for it to arrive.

    • was that with the code?

      • i forgot to put the code in :( but it was free delivery still.

  • +1

fk,forgot the code and cashback. a big lost.

  • +1

    Thanks got one

  • +1

So do you have to download certain apps to use this? Where can you find videos to watch with this?

And just confirming, it works with iPhone 6s yes? Looks like a normal iPhone 6 in the picture

    • Yes it will fit. You can find a bunch of 3D videos on youtube and search the itunes store for VR apps like VRSE

    • 6s will be released in the future…

      • 6 es hahaha not 6s, my apologise

  • Is shipping free?

    • Yeah

  • bought one, thanks, good price for a quality VR headset

  • Any other cool gadgets on the site?

  • can this make your normal video into 3d?

    • You need to have an app that will turn it into side by side video with the proper alignment/misalignment and timing.

  • is this the best one selling right now?

    • No there are other brands with price tag $99

  • How do you get the audio out? does the box have a small opening?

    • Look at the picture it have holes in it. Maybe good for phone with speaker at the back.

  • +1

    • -1

The full experience is only available at The Oculus Store with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Gear VR Headset.

      • have you click the link i provided? my question is, how can we get theose effect without using any google cardbox

  • +1

this may be a good price, but i will not deal with these (profanity) again! they sent me a faulty dash cam and asked me for another $20 to send a new one. so i paid, and they never sent!

OP, please do not take it personal. the neg is just a warning to other fellow ozbargainers.

    • Have you contacted the Gearbest Rep for Ozbargain? They have an account here.
      Always very helpful.

      • +2

havent seen their rep for a long time. i gave up on them. their online support stopped responding to my messages. i paid total US$41.99+20 for that damn dashcam. what i got is a faulty cam that was DOA.

        • Lol. Funny because I'm on the same boat. Sent faulty dashcam and wanted $20 for the replacement.

        • @tomleonhart:

No recourse via paypal or credit card company for either of you?

Ahh just saw erics post further down, January is a long time ago in paypal land, doubt they'll care :(

    • +2

      chargeback both transactions

      • -1

how? i used the paypal. the first transaction was in Jan iirc.

        edit:
i filed a dispute on paypal just now. hope they can help.

      • +1

PayPal are useless. They'll ask you to send it back at your own cost. There goes $25 of your own cash

    • What was the fault?? Blue Screen?

As I had initial probs but with a bit of trial and error sorted it out.

      • I did everything i can and try everything i can find, even flash a new rom, the cam freezes in a few seconds or half minute at most. ironically, someone post a vid on youtube for help for the exactly same issue.

  • +1

Can you watch stuff in 2D with this?

    • +4

Probably not advised. But you can watch 2D stuff for free, need not pay anything. Just cup your hands over your eyes like you're pretending to use binoculars.

      • +1

        I bought it for nothing!

        • +1

you can play normal videos inside a 'virtual cinema', it's pretty great

        • @mr kindface: Sweet, thanks!

    • The split lens would make it difficult

  • According to this review

    it is dissapointing
