Everyone, I'm seeing a lot of comments here about people walking into stores and seeing nothing on sale. You may actually be missing out if you leave. I've just been to Broadmeadows (10:45am) and nothing is tagged. I asked the sales rep, and he took me through the specials.

YOU NEED TO ASK!!!

Examples:

1x iPad Air 16GB ex demo $99
2x Nikon J3 $99 (one display)

    • i dont see the g16 on the cashback page

      • It is not on the cashback page but if you bought another canon product worth $200 or more at the same time, the cashback doubles to $400 :D

Im outside the Civic store and there is a couple of us eyeing each other off.

I can hear the thoughts now "If you get tgat tv, im gonna stab you"

    • +5

It's just like an Australian version of Black Friday shopping. May the strongest, fastest and most agile person win the best deals…

    • any good deal on anything???

    • Is this Canberra civic? Any good deals on? I work near there and wouldn't mind going to grab discounted stuff I'll never use

    • +1

OMG! this is insane! I am coming over to you guys now. On my way :) I will get that tv.

    • Were there any special or good deals in Civic?

    • +2

What a scam. I didn't get drawn into the hype yesterday as DSE in the past has been a huge disappointment, but today with reports of cheap Apple I thought I would give it a go.

I noticed the only store left in the ACT still had stock of the ps4 500gb today, so I went there, I ask if they have them they said yes, I can $299? No! apparently all the "$299" units are sold they only have the $449 units left.

Because it was so far out of my way I went to 2 different DSE's on the way home and further disappointment awaited. Basically nothing on sale except for some junk.

The third shop I chased a DSE employee around the store to get his attention - he made eye contact twice as he was escaping - and asked if any Apple was on sale, he said no in a way as though he was surprised. This was when the store was empty, only about 1 other customer milling about.

If anyone did get a bargain good on you But I should have listened to my intuition, I wasted my day off work, about $30 in fuel and $10 in parking for nothing driving around in 30 degree heat. I only didn't visit 1 DSE that was in the state, but someone else mentioned in a post that they visited earlier and nothing doing there.

This was my worst ozbargain ever netting my a total saving of negative $40.

I knew there was a reason I haven't shopped at DSE for years.

      • +1

I know how you feel. Did the same today and the store was disappointing!

      • Sorry to hear that bud. I did pretty ok with a Dick Smith 55" TV for $209 and a 65" LG TV for $919.

Nearly came to blows with this other guy who already bought one and he went to another store and wanted to snap up another that I had already reserved.

      • Is a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for $332 an okay deal? Based on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/207632 yep, the price was labelled $860 or something.

    • +13

And have people lose their job.

How would you feel if people were rooting for you to lose your job

      • -4

Probably the same way I felt when I quit working there in 2011 because I didn't want to hang on to a sinking ship of mismanagement.

        • +17

Choosing to quit your job =/= losing your job

        • +2

@Putnum: No such thing as 100% for job security. You knew in 2011 without a doubt they were going under? Please.

        • -2

@snagseb: The largest retailer selling them for a bargain price not a big enough indicator for you?

        • @Putnum:
Can I borrow your time machine?

        • @Spets: I lost my job in 2012 got 60,000+ pay out got a new job 2 week after that. not bad. new let work and pay way more.

      • +6

Shit happens. Especially in retail. DSE hasn't been good since the 80's, it's inevitable, just like Myer going bye bye

    • +1

Its look like you r on centre link mate common grow up plz

      • -4

Actually I make $30k more a year now than I did when I was at dickies but thanks for your concern.

        • +5

Haha awesome mate good luck for future and hope you will shine :)

        • I am surprised you make any money with that attitude!

        • @BestofOZB: get on it (profanity)

    • Its really their terrible online and phone support that has caused the anger towards the brand i feel

  • Was hoping for PVRs to be dumped. The clock's just died in my original Beyonwiz. :\

  • Any good deals on TVs?

  • +3

Please can someone update with the samsung phones and tablet prices if they can

  • Any home theatre deals?

  • 2 minutes till 9am..

    • -2

Maybe today is actually their final day of trade

      • Nah, really?

        • It must be soon. I heard they're making a public statement on the 5th about the future.

        • +2

@Putnum: could this be about The Great Exclusion Sale of 2015?

  • Jvc 40" tv $134

    • +1

      Any 50+ inch tv?

      • +5

        Jvc 50" 209
Lg 60" smart to $679 but has black spot size of a rockmelon

        • +1

          LMAO

    • Penrith Westfield still had this at $499. No specials at all.

      • you need to ask the staff, stickers may not have changed.

    • Aww down voted :( it was the price on the window while I was waiting for shop to open.

    • Were these new or display?

      • displays

    • I got the last JVC 40" and also 32" from Frankston. The staff were very friendly and super helpful.

      • They lose the remote for my one. $57 from JVC direct for a replacement. There are a few on ebay for about $30, but not sure if it will work with this TV….hmmm to take the risk and save $20~ hmmmmmmmm

Rang back JVC customer support to ask for the TV remotes model number. Same guy I spoke to first time. I give him the model of TV, he says yep $57. I asked can you give me the model of the remote. He says no…That the remote doesn't have a model and the tv i just said doesnt exist, its missing a letter. I'm like then how did you just say to me for the second time, it will cost $57? Went around in circles a few times, and didn't get the model number of the remote. He didn't want to give it to me.

        • Just ring back up and speak to someone else.

        • @polar: I did. Got the same guy lol

        • @Danstar: That is hilarious. Try tomorrow.

        • +1

          @polar:
JVC Australia wouldn't have a huge customer service call centre. It could just be this one guy.

        • @elektron: That's what I'm thinking lol

        • Is it the JVC 42" LT-42N530P ?. If so the remote is RM-C5303.

        • @Tasmaniac: nah it's a 50" LT50N550A

        • @Danstar: Oh ok in that case it's RM-C3135 .

        • @Tasmaniac: where did you find that info?

Ps. Can't find anyone selling it online

  • I am looking for a decent 32" or bit bigger TV, anyone seen any good deals?
    Cheers

    • +1

        • Sorry for neg maybe I should by a tablet or glasses that I could use. If I did the 65 inch it would be back at store in 1 day not 60. I am like you need a kitchen TV.

      • +2

It's comments like this that make me love OzBargain ;) You can stick the "they deserve to lose their jobs", but comments like this are gold.

  • +3

Thanks TA, going to line up for stuff I possibly don't need.

What's the deal in Samsung tablets. If if I'm lucky enough to find something decent do the sales from yesterday still apply?

  • +8

Saw at 8.50am and sprinted to the car with no regards to what I'm wearing or how I'm looking.

    • +7

      welcome to adulthood haha

    • +5

If anyone is wondering, it wasn't worth the drive or the embarrassment of having sleeping clothing on in a shopping centre.

      • Depends where you live…

  • Thanks TA, time to line up now.

  • +7

The one time not having daylight savings is actually benefiting Queenslanders, find out what is on sale from all you Mexicans and then I know whether it's worth travelling to the shops or not.

  • All Xbox games are $20. Ps 4 games $20. Pc games $10

    • If this is the only deal then this is a dupe from yesterday

    • +1

NOT ALL….just called and asked them to scan few…not ALL on sale

      • Maybe not today but was yesterday?

    • I saw the clearance posters with the games and presumed they were part of the clearance today. Otherwise very little could be seen on clearance in Moonee Ponds.

  • So when is the confirmed final day of trade for Dick Smith Electronics?

    • Next year sometime or year after, they'll drag it out until they legally have to close.

      • +6

I'll never forget one customer I had at the Mentone store that came in and asked for help building a bionic arm… Then got frustrated when us, the sales team, couldn't assist. Ah, dickies. Quality memories.

        • +3

Did you run out of bionic arm parts?

        • +15

@malouphix: nah they were on sale so we hid them out the back.

        • @Putnum: Nicely played. ;)

        • @Putnum:

OMG! That's just conpletely unethical and immoral. How dare you do something i would do if I were in the same position! I'm reporting you to…someone.

    • +3

      Huh?
