Direct quote, overheard from DS Wollongong staff, talking to another staff member:

"I'm a bit disappointed by these deals."

    Says it all really.

  • Damn, I'm at work.

Any stores have the Logitech Type+ Keyboard case for iPad Air 2?

    • +1

Probably got told he has four weeks left in a job

    • Maybe try Marion. Bigger store.

  • +1

I was hte first one into DSE at Seven Hills.

The staff knew of the sale but he said they did not get a price listing or anything./

I wanted a Samsaung Galaxy Tab - they only had one that wasnt on sale.
I also wanted a Uniden cordless phone - 2 of the ones i was interested in were not reduced

    • I'm thinking of looking for a cheap TV at seven hills.
Do they have any or is it not worth the 5 minute drive + 5 minute parking time?

      thanks

  • +2

Camberwell in Vic has a PS vita for 99 (I didn't want it. I have too much stuff already). Not much else. No ps4s there.

    • PS TV?

      • There was a pstv box on shelf. No idea if they have physical stock though.

        • +1

Cheers. Thought I'd give them a call, then realised they probably won't answer. Quality DSE service. Wonder if I'll be pleasantly surprised when i call?

      • tried to buy one yesterday and it wasn't on sale. The guy at the Dick Smith was actually real good. He was letting me grab all the stuff and scanned it for me to see if it was on sale or not…even brought out PS4 games from the back to see if i was interested.

Now if Dick Smith does go down. That bloke should be given a job!

      • there was one in moonee ponds for $30 (9.30 am today). I asked if it was on hold, it was on the counter. He said no. I was going to get it but decided not to. Moonee Ponds stuff was quite helpful, so maybe give them a call. There were also some ps4 and xbox games (not much).

    • Bugger it, I'm on an ADO but wifey took the car.

  • Pretty normal looking sale here at Nunawading VIC

  • +1

No PS4 or XB1 deals $500 at DSE going to try east gardens for kicks. Plenty of stock though. Nathan drake collection, drive club, XB1 3 game bundles. Randwick NSW. Staff don't answer phones (hardly any people around though). Going to try east gardens for S&Gs even though I doubt clearance is still on

    • Nathan Drake collection is not part of the $20 sale (this is what I was told at Sydney store). If you managed to get it for $20 at eastgardens, please post here. Thanks

      • +1

We got the Nathan Drake collection for $20 in Adelaide

        • +1

          Manually reduced in error though?

    • +1

PS4 price was $299 a staff member told me then manager said no $500. Something about withholding a deal they can buy themself at the end of the day

  • Anyone know of any stores with PS TV stock at $30? Might save for weekend…

    • +1

      Broadmeadows has 1 in stock

      • +1

Wouldn't want to get shot buying a PSTV though…

        • onlywhenitisworthit

        • from $150 down to $30?! despite it being a being a huge let down and worthless for online gaming; the convenience of playing offline games in a second room is worth that price.

        • @roosta: I bought one for this reason and am glad I didn't pay more than the $30. There is noticeable lag and the picture is not as nice. I am using WiFi connection though with full bars both ends. I might have to try with cables but think I'd rather just move the console than to have cables everywhere.

    • Robina has one

  • How to tell which stores have clearance stock? Dickies staff don't answer phones and no info on website. Also what consoles are clearance

    • Most things I saw at Airport West was display stuff only. SO will vary store to store

      • Any consoles there? Thanks for the heads up

        • Nope. No ipads, no cheap laptops. saw someone buy a canon digital camera for $29 (ex. display)

  • Nothing worthwhile at bourke st as per previous comments. Canon 70D still at full price

  • +3

No good sales but it is good to see the ozbargainers out today.

    • +2

Give any awkward looks to them? I did :)

      • +3

I did at first but just spoke up and said "ozbargainer?" And pretty much discussed how we missed out on the deals. Was looking for a good deal for the xbox one.

        • +4

I can't wait to get my Ozbargain t-shirt that I was lucky enough to score during the treasure hunt, so I can wear it to these kinds of events. Ozbargain represent.

        • @Baltoski: Awesome, the wife just said that my t-shirt arrived today. Thanks Scotty, I'll wear it with pride tomorrow when lining up for day 3 of Dick's disappointments ;)

  • Acer aspire switch not discounted.. Dammit.

Went to Rhodes dick Smith, the shop looks like business as usual but there are some clearance display laptops none of which are attractive. The older HP stream is 199 (only display model) and the Acer aspire Switch was still 299.

  • +1

Got some go pro accessories at the tea tree plaza store. They had a quite a few games left too

    • +1

Just came from there too. The GoPro branded accessories don't seem to be on sale, only the Kaiser Baas branded ones.

  • +3

    IPod touch 32GB $99
    Ipod Nano 16GB 7th Generation $97

    • Where?

      • Goulburn NSW, no stock here though been just seen the ticket

    • What's an iPod?

      • I assume it was a 5th gen ipod touch?

        • I was implying iPod's are pointless in a smartphone time. Now I'm sad my joke failed to land.

    • Just checked Wollongong. They certainly do not have those prices!

  • +5

Just walked out of Warrnambool Dick Smith.
    Its business as usual.
    Nothing on sale
    Nothing Re Ticketed
One Staff member who wasn't even aware there was a sale.

Then when I asked, he looked it up.
    Said "oh you are right"
Then rambled on all thus rubbish about its on in a few days time… the manager this that and the other, blah blah blah.

    Utter waste of time.
No bargains unless you buy 2 and 3 of the same thing on a very few items

    • +1

When you walked out they made sure to set aside all the sale items for staff :S

      • And started updating the resumes.

      • To be honest, the store looks terrible.
More like a $2 Shop than a Dick Smith store.
        1 staff member… for a supposed sale?!
I saw another guy asking the same questions as me. He got a similar answer.

I had a good look at the stock that was on display.
Seemed a few holes where items were removed.
The rest… either wasn't worth having at any price or cheaper else where.

  • Anyone been to Southland? Any PS3 or Vitas?

    • +1

      nothing there

      • Thanks mate :)

        • had a ps4 but rang up as $448

  • There are display TV's marked down in Bourke Street, however they are not ticketed and staff will not tell the cheapest TV or the biggest discount. You have to ask for the price on each display TV individually.

    • +2

They are really trying to clear the shelves there.

    • plus 1

  • DEMO ITOUCH $49

    • +1

Plus the cost of getting it irradiated.

      • Priceless

        • For everything else there's MasterCard.

    • itouchmyself

      • +1

        Don't we all

  • Are they still doing the games sale?

    • Emporium in the city (Melb) they are. There's nothing that good left; I did see GTAV on X360 $10…

      • I'm looking for some cheap WoW play time cards. I'll go check my local DSE.

        • Any luck?

        • @Hirolol: the Mrs went to Chaddy. No luck.

  • +1

Hardly any bargains available, typical dick smith deals, no stock, just hype to create excitement. Less than 1% of the people score and its consider a bargain. +92 votes only as the deal is too good to be true!

  • Is anybody more au fait with the ways of Dick than I? ;) I'm wondering if a product was on their website last night but has vanished today does this mean it's on clearance? Or is it just as likely to reappear tomorrow for no apparent reason?

  • +5

Im really dont get why people are all over this sale. They discounted games no one wants, consoles that were cheap but not that cheap, cameras that in a years time will be old technology and same with the tablets.

To me all they are doing is selling off old unwanted stock.

    • Well said professor

      • Thankyou

  • +1

Just checked my local DS in sunshine and was told that there is no sale. Could this be store Specific and they're setting sales regionally?

  • What is regarded as old stock?

I spoke to someone in-store and told me that it is only the larger stores that are doing discounts as they have the most old stock. i.e. Chullora Showroom in NSW

My guess is that is also where their warehouse is, as that is where their ebay stuff usually ships from. In which case why didn't they just do an online sale…

  • +39

I work at a DickSmith store and had stock of some items yesterday. Staff were informed by head office that they were not allowed to purchase anything on clearnace till the end of the day

Lots of people are commenting about stock levels the clearance is not store wide, it is off selected older stock some store may have stock some may not

More store yesterday had about 30 x ps4 games 10 x xb1 games and probally 20 x ps3/xbox360 games about 5 camera's one xbox360 for 149(with connect) and 2 xb1 500gb (with connect sensors) plus we had some pc games mainly sims 3 expansions though.

I know one of my local stores had the xb1 with assasins creed ($149 I think) they had 3 but one customer brought them all. one customer in my store brought 6 copies of gta V on ps3 then the manager told us if they look like not buy for personal use to say 2 copies only of any game to try and leave stock for others.

I'm proud of our business and please don't get upset if some stores don't have stock. It is not a normal sale it is a clearance sale so stock will be limited and very varied from store to store.

In my store left after yesterday was 2 xb1 500gb for 299 (with connect sensor), the ps vista for $99 and small selection of games.

BS. Indian guy at the Sydney Central Plaza DS who owns the shop: "I came early in the morning and bought all the good cameras for myself." Yesterday

      • +1

And how is his race relevant?

        • -5

Because Indians love photography, on no wait that's the Japanese :)

        • -4

Because everyone knows Indians are sneaky.
          :P

        • +4

Well…. in a race, the first person gets the prize, which in this case was a trolley load of cameras.

        • -2

          @cryptos:

          Hahaha

    • Thanks for the post.

      • daym I would love a cheap vita!

    • which store is that? do you still have ps vita?

    • So is there any fact to the speculation of Dick Smith closing down?

  • +6
