Can't think of anything smart to say :(

    • +2

      what about dumb?…:D

      • +2

That would be about 95% of of the stuff on Ebay…

        • See if my valentine want anything?

        • +5

@baronseng: Don't worry, I've already got them covered!

        • +2

@youknow: does this mean, baronseng can now go and take it off?

    • +3

How about …."Here we go again"

Time to spend again. Better act fast this time before they pull the plug in advance.

    • When there's nothing to be said, someone always says it.

  • Thank you TA!!!!!! You ledge!

    • +1

"Ledge" doesn't seem right! Though not sure how else I'd spell it…

      • +3

Perhaps "lege" or "leg" considering it's meant to be short for legendary not ledgendary

        • +7

But who would see leg, or lege, and know what he actually meant? Ledge works much better.

        • +1

@mgowen: Depends on the context. If you say "You Leg… wait for it", we'll all think of NPH. Now I'm thinking about NPH.. What were we talking about? ;)

      • Geez typing that one extra letter is like having to lift a 100kg barbell ;P

  • Someone find me a good washing machine. XD
A lot of the products are stuff chicks would like. Sexism…..

    • I am also in the market for a new washing machine

      • +1

I recently got this: Electrolux 7kg Front Load Washer EWF14742 from the Goodguys for $600. It's pretty good for the price.

        • Not compared to the recent Samsung deals for $440-450 here. I'd keep looking.
And the Electrolux is $599 at Masters. - or is that to match?

        • @manic: unsure! Also I prefer Electrolux washing machines over Samsung!

  • +13

    In before JV!

    • +8

Any bargains? How much is it normally?

  • +71

Ends Feb 8, or whenever the hell ebay feels like it…

  • +1

Please remove ZIZO do they over price cheapo things and ship them poorly and damage everything ordered two things from there. Bad desk threw it out it was also damaged like my other item.

    • +1

I would also say be wary of ZIZO. Not sure on shipping, but priced up some of the art works (just do a reverse google image search) and the prices seem to all be about 18% inflated compared to the competition.
Add back in shipping and the price is almost the same as what other sites sell it for. Maybe $1-2 less.

As per usual - do you homework before thinking you are getting a bargain.

    • -4

I am always wary of posts that hardly make sense. I think that there might be a complaint in there somewhere, however it's really hard to be sure.

To get a point across clearly, I suggest that people write in English, together with structured sentences, punctuation, etc.

      Itsreallyhardtounderstandwheneverythingrandomlyflowstogether.

  • This is quite good though, coincides with my wife's birthday, now just to think of something to buy..

  • +8

No Kogan or DSE. I'm not surprised.

    • But you have Milan Direct : Kogan is a part owner I think.

      • +10

I said that because Kogan got fined by the ACCC after price jacking at the last eBay sale and DSE… well we all know why.

        • +5
        • +7

Futu Online should be reported to the ACCC as well. Every ebay promotion Ive seen them exploit ebay users and cashing in. They bump up their prices (usually on the same day the promo starts) and drop it back after it ends.

Never would buy anything from them solely for that reason.

  • +5

Bad stores for me.. at least from looking over them quickly.

    • +9

Great deal but browsing quickly, nothing really worthwhile buying. I only found the apple TV deal i posted @ Futu online. SSD's have been cheaper on ozbargain even without the 20% off. Its also not the best time to buy SSD's as i've been told there will be a reasonable price drop very soon on old Gen SSD's.
      '
I think the retailers have already increased the prices before the deal became live

      • +1

250GB Samsung 850 ssd for $111 don't think ive seen cheaper

      • where did you hear this SSD news
cause i just bought one sigh

        • SSD's are dropping every month, i wouldnt worry about it

    • It's valentine's themed..

I can now buy my girlfriend a SSD for Valentine's Day.

      Asus R552JK-CN089H i7-4700HQ/8GB/1TB/15.6" FHD/BD drive/4GB GTX850M $768.76 one left
      Toshiba P50T-B010 i7-4700HQ/8GB/1TB/15.6" FHD touch/DVD drive/2GB M265X $766.36
      Toshiba P50T-B01R i7-4710HQ/8GB/1TB/15.6" FHD touch/DVD drive/2GB M265X $788.76

all refurbs but with 12 month manufacturer's warranty

      • I bought a P50T-B01R at a much higher price from Toshiba refurbished website. It is a decent machine though. Upgraded to Windows 10, swapped the 1TB with a 512GB SSD and it is … quite fast.

        • I have the P50T-B01R as well, can confirm it is an excellent machine for this price (I got it for this price via Mastercard 20% off in October '15), though an SSD upgrade is strongly recommended.

  • +1

    Any galaxy S6?

    • The S6 will be under $500 once the S7 is announced in 20-30 days time. IMO its better to wait.

  • +3
    • Ridiculous price but body only

      • Yes. But anyone planning on taking the cameras seriously, would move on from the kit lens eventually. Plus they can be bought on gumtree for cheap

    • It's refurbished. No deal.

    • +2

It's Manufacturer refurbished. Not a good deal.

      • +1

Why would I care if it comes with full 12 month warranty? I've never had any issues with any of the refurb stuff I bought.

        • +1

You can get brand new with lens kit for $680 and it is not grey imported.

        • Imo the kit lens is not worth $150

Plus I don't see any issues with factory refurbs
Bought many refurbished electronics before with no issues

        • @cminez: Fair enough then

      • +1

        sorry that's a bad one.

    • @ alz

I agree with you. Well put. I checked a few prices and you should get all of it lower than 20%off. Waste of time, no doubt some will find different case.

  • Bought a samsung 950 pro from Futu. Thanks for the heads up. :)

  • Thanks; just picked up a Netgear R7000 for $167.20.. bargain :D (edit: from Futu Online)

  • +5

After the last debacle with eBay I'm surprised it's got so many + votes.

    • Well it works at the moment, I'm sure we will vote accordingly

      • +5

Greed will drive the votes up, even those who got stung last time will vote like mindless sheep.

        • what's it got to do with greed? theyre just ordinary shoppers with limited free time who are trying to find good prices (and sometimes making poor choices).

    • +3

yeah i wont be +'ing it

    • What was the debacle?

      • Ending the discount a day before the cutoff date that was listed in the official terms and conditions

  • No supercheap auto this time :(

  • +1

Any list of stores that DON'T increase prices in response to this offer?

    • +2

SCA didnt and not only that, you could stack with their current catalogue, but it seems theyre not in this time

  • Hmm which 3tb hard drive to buy (internal) for photo storage and editing

  • Thanks! I was looking for a Vitamix.

  • +3

Just bought a Little America Herschel bag for $67

    hella happy :D

Cheers - Got some HP G8 Mircoserver memory 16Gb for $174.40 delivered at Futu. (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231244330773)

      But it's refurbished :(

    • +1

      • +1

what's wrong with Refurb with 12months warranty?

        • +4

nothing i was just denoting it was :)

        • Had an ipod refurb.died 1 month after warranty ended.Never again

  • Any link to search all stores?

    EDIT: NVM. Monday morning.

    • Should be at the top. Took me a while to find as well. Terrible UI design.

  • thanks TA !

need to buy BBQ, any suggestions ? upto $250 !

    • Hmm BCF don't seem to have their usual stock of Weber's which is disappointing.

      • And even though their Waeco portable fridges are returned in search, I didn't find any that hadn't been removed from eBay. Seems they did a lot of updates around lunchtime

  • +1

Nothing that sparks my interest, was hoping QD_AU would be included so I could get the LG V10

    • That's a hong kong based store. I don't think they'll ever be included unless ebay offer a sitewide discount again.

      • +1

I had seen them previously included so was crossing my fingers.

        • Yes, I got my Sony Xperia Z5C from a previous deal. Was delivered from Taiwan in 48 hours - way exceeded my expectations.

      • Ebay has done code specific deals before with non australian ebay stores. The code got pulled without notice a few days earlier before it was meant to expire.

  • +25

the real OzBargain heroes are those who link

    • a meme is in order for this gentleman

  • +5

Still waiting for the next 20% off sitewide eBay code.

    • +4

That'll happen when the government reduces the GST threshold and increases the tax rate to 15%.

  • Wanna buy a tv unit and a sideboard from Milan direct, postage costs $35 each… any one bought from them before?

    • all fake designer furniture.

  • Thanks

Just got some Swarovski stuff I have been looking for at Peters of Kensington for a further 20% off.

  • +11

    Stores are a little Meh.

  • Any recommended knives this time around?

  • Spewing. Received $150 of items this morning from Torpedo7. If I had waited just another 6 days before ordering.
How un-ozbargainer of me. I have shamed myself.

    • +8

For your sins say 3 hail tightarses and upvote 2 random CVALENTINE20 posts. You are absolved.

    • +1

I had my eye on some Shimano bike gear from them before the sale… and it has all just gone up about 20%. So, I wouldn't worry too much.

    • +1

I found the Torpedo7 prices on the items I was looking at went up by 12% from ~$200 to ~$228 when the code started.

  • Good timing. After a few things that stopped working recently. Hopefully there are some good deals this time around.

24" monitor with height adjust, 8 port gigabit switch, 4 port gigabit wireless router.

  • +2

Thanks. Ordered a NUC ($415.2 after discount)
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231290900774?_trksid=p2060353.m27…

    • Big thanks mate, I've been spending hours looking for a good deal on Nuc and just bought 2 from your link.

  • Any 1080p Video Camera deals? Sooo much to search through….

  • With Graysonline, can this discount be applied to any of their auctions?

    • If the auction is on Ebay, then the code applies.

      • i see. thanks mate :)

  • -5

Still was charged $135 for a 2TB poratble hard drive from Futu Online even though I applied the code and it told me how much i saved. should have been a saving of $27.00. $108 dollars :(

    • +5

your actual payment should be $108. still invoiced at $135.

    • +14

Still was charged $135 for a 2TB poratble hard drive from Futu Online even though I applied the code and it told me how much i saved. should have been a saving of $27.00. $108 dollars :(

Every Time there are these 20% off sales on ebay we have the same complaints being posted, if you bothered to read the screens at each step instead of clicking NEXT, NEXT, NEXT you would have seen the funding source which would have shown the 20% was not paid by you. If you bothered to look at the paypal payment you would also have seen you only paid 80% of the total but it's far easier to complain on OZbargain instead of checking for yourself.

      • +3

OK, so I had an issue with the discounted amount shown by eBay (with the CVALENTINE20 voucher applied), and the amount that PayPal wanted to transfer out of my account to pay for the items: The eBay figure was correct, PayPal wanted to charge me the full undiscounted price.

So, I contacted eBay - who were surprisingly quick and helpful…!

Turns out that there is a PayPal payment issue when you try to check out with items in your cart that are from sellers who are participating in the promotion mixed with items from sellers who are not participating.

Simply split the items you want into two separate transactions (one that uses the voucher and the other which doesn't) and the correct PayPal charge will be processed for your discounted items.

Hope that this helps someone :-)

        • Did they refund the discount? I seem to have made this same mistake.. but I completed checkout.

        • @tlai: by splitting tha cart, I was charged the correct amount, so no refund required. Contact eBay and see if they can help. They were very helpful to me, but YMMV.

        • @MadMapMan:

I have been contacting PayPal, they don't seem to be willing/not able to help. Let me try eBay.

  • Any good 17 inch laptops?

  • Picked up 2 WD 2TB Ultra.

    Thanks OP. :)

  • +7

Thank you, OP. For me (fountain pen enthusiast) there are quite a few spectacular buys from Peter's of Kensington:

Lamy 2000 Brushed Stainless Steel Fountain Pen
    RRP $449.00
    PoK eBay $302.00
PoK eBay $241.50 (after 20% discount)

    Lamy Safari Fountain Pen
    RRP $49.95
    PoK eBay $33.00
PoK eBay $26.40 (after 20% discount)

Dupont Spectre Limited Edition Black Fountain Pen
    RRP $2299.00
    PoK eBay $2062.00
PoK eBay $1649.60 (after 20% discount)

    • +1

Lamy 2000 at least is a lot cheaper at pengallery.com

      http://www.pengallery.com/lamy-2000-fountain-pen/

      • +2

Not the same model. That is the Makrolon body - not the stainless steel.

        • Fair enough. I didnt think there would be much difference but pen gallery has the stainless steel one at $355. Thats some expensive stainless steel.

        • @paizuri:

It's the machining work that you're paying for (zoom in and have a look at the finish). 'Tis a very nice writing implement.

I checked the Pen Gallery listing. Not only more expensive than PoK (even without the 20% coupon!) but that's for the bare pen. PoK is selling the "set" which also includes a bottle of ink.

        • @OzDJ_: a good deal then. Maybe worth its own op?

    • +1

Aren't those cheaper from the Asian sellers on eBay? I paid <$20 for my Safari, for example

    • Sounds like a good deal if you can justify spending that much… my mind is blown that there is such a thing as a $2000 pen. $100 I could understand, but $2k? I hope you enjoy it if you do end up purchasing :)

      • Yeah, definitely not for everyone. But then, some people pay tens of thousands for a piece of polished carbon (aka 'diamond'). At least you can use the fountain pen ;-)

    • +1

Aaaaaaah must resist ! Just bought a Pilot Decimo 2 days ago, can't justify a $240 pen at this stage. An She Who Must Be Obeyed is asking why I have 8 fountain pens…

      • +1

        Pilot Decimo

Nice! I have one Vanishing Point (model 60142) and it's gorgeous to write with.

She Who Must Be Obeyed is asking why I have 8 fountain pens

I keep my collection at work for that very reason. ;-)

        • +1

I have to confess. I have a matte black vanishing point. Carried it in my pocket with my titanium keyholder and after 2 weeks it looks like it was sandblasted with the bare brass visible in many areas. I was sad… So I bought the decimo :) And replaced the keyholder with a leather one.

    • Noooo don't post that Lamy 2000! Must resist! Must resist!

      • +1

Noooo don't post that Lamy 2000! Must resist! Must resist!

But, but…. you SAVE money by buying it ;-)

  • Hmm I don't suppose you could use the $25 eBay voucher from Amaysim with this could you?

    • Hmm I don't suppose you could use the $25 eBay voucher from Amaysim with this could you?

      NO.

  • +1

Started buying the parts of this pc I'm building just in time for Valentines :)

Prices from Futu after discount applied!

    CPU – Intel Core i7 6700 – $420
    Mobo – Gigabyte B150M-D3H (DDR4 version) – $120
    RAM – Kingston 16GB (2x8G) DDR4 2133MHz – $120

Just need a case with PSU now

    • +4

      Get a 6700k for $46 more..

      • +4

Not everyone overclocks.. but if one is spending $420 on a CPU anyway.. I see the point.

      • ^ well worth it

      • +1

Tempting! But I can put the $46 on the case

Might be for a different thread but any recommendations on the case+psu?

        Anything under $100?

        • depends what graphics card you're using and how many HDDs isn't it?
Do not be stingy with your PSU though. Crappy PSU = blows up = blows up everything connected to it.
You can get away with crappy case, from a airflow point of view. What you choose is 90% personal taste.

        • @Blitzfx: Thinking the Thermaltake Versa H15 Mid. No GPU, will just use the onboard. Dont really game. Will be mainly for photo/video editing

        • A PSU (case bundle) that won't die within 5 years/kill your components under $100 ? Good luck!

        • @bugoy8:
well if no GPU, then that should be fine

        • @bugoy8: I literally built a computer over the weekend for work :-( good prices but would have helped work save a bit more if I'd known this eBay deal was on it's way. Oh well :-)

The case I got was http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id…. Not the best material used but well spaced out and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was for $45.

Paired it with an Antec VP-500P PSU which isn't officially 80 Plus certified but claims 88% efficiency in its specs. http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id…

I'm using it for photo editing, some development and general workstation. Other specs are ASRock Z170 Extreme4, i5-6500, 16GB Kingston HyperX Fury, Samsung 950 EVO SSD (boot, apps), WD Blue (data).

        • @griftr:

Thanks for the feedback. Wonder how that case/psu combo of yours compare to the Thermaltake Versa H15.

      • +2

Woops.. I forgot that the 6700 comes with a HSF and the 6700k doesn't.. so add another $100 for a HSF.. lol

        • Yeah its a bit of a cop out if you ask me.

      • there is no 6700k available on this deal it would seem. did it sell out? I wonder.

        • There was a 6700k yesterday for $466.. obviously removed/"sold out"..

    • What about 6600K?
I am guessing that lower specd but not by a whole lot though?

  • +6

Topedo7 put their prices up. Bastards!

    • +3

Call ACCC, fine them like Kogan.

  • +2

Damn was really hoping Masters or similar would be on this deal - want a new BBQ!

  • +3

    Any good phones on sale?

    • +3

Don't think any of the store sale mobile phones..

      • +1

        Damn! Thanks though :(

      • right,
I'm hunting for a phone, and couldn't find any in the offer.

  • Eying off one of these @ Futu online eBay store:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Compute-Stick-STCK1A32WFCL-…

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Computer-Stick-With-Win8-1-…

Does anyone have any experience/advice with these?

I have one these from Gearbest which works a charm for Foxtel Play.
    http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_166769.html

Is it a similar product? Anyone tried Foxtel Play on these things?

    • +1

The first gen intel sticks are utter rubbish.
They've launched version two but it's not on shelves yet I believe

      • Thx for your advice. What's so bad about them? Slow sluggish?

        • Both of those, plus only 1 USB port, poor video streaming performance. Good concept, bad execution.
          Here's a good explanation: http://gizmodo.com/intel-compute-stick-review-don-t-buy-it-1…

        • @jakey69:

Hmmm i'm not looking to use it as a full PC… only for Foxtel Go.

I've found some reviews that state its not horrible or that bad. I guess maybe it boils down to what you want it for. In my case Foxtel Go and potentially Netflix (on a non-smart TV).

  • Meh,not much stands out IMO….if u looking for Logitech wheel for your christmas xbox or ps4 $320 is ok

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-G920-Driving-Force-Racin…

  • Last night my Asus ROG died a peaceful death. Long live another ROG

  • +2

Hmm shame Good Guys are not in on this promo this time - I have something I want to buy from TGG. Ive messaged BETTA to see if they can list it instead.

  • +4

    Before anybody asks..
Check your detailed Paypal invoice before posting that you've been charged the full amount.

    • why did they charge me full ;)

  • No ps4 controller deal? ;(

    • go to costco, $65

  • +1

I checked only one thing so far: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Giorgio-Armani-Armani-Code-EDT-Sp…
$92 after discount when Chemist Warehouse sells the same thing for $69

I hope there are few genuine deals to be found with the others and not jacked up prices before offering 20% discount

  • +1

no one sale slow juicer. shame.

    • +5

      Bad luck Yoda.

  • +1

  • Ok, so i bought this exact laptop last week! Payed $1550 from Shoppingexpress ebay store. anyone have any ideas of what i can do? i have price guarantee cover on my bank west platinum card, but looking at the PDS it needs to be a physical store. help!

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-Zenbook-UX305UA-Ultrabook-In…

    • SE have a physical store

      • Am i right in saying FUTU is owned by SE? that might help.

        • Yes.. even better if you can confirm both use the same ABN (not sure if they do - can anyone advise either ABN off a prior invoice?)

        • +1

          @systmworks:
thanks for the help, just spoke to the insurance company. it need to be purchased from a physical store and doesn't cover online specials. need to have a catalog or similar.

pretty pointless cover if you ask me.

    • Anyone know how reliable estimated delivery is from Futu? Going overseas on Friday morning. Was contemplating getting a new laptop, and this 20% is a winner. Not getting it in time to claim TRS would be a bummer.

      • I bought the TVPAD4 from them last year and they dispatch it the next day.

      • They seem to be experiencing huge number of sales so I'd expect there be delay. I just bought a laptop 2 days ago and still hasn't been dispatched.

    • Is it a touch screen?

Epson XP-800. Been using one with generic cartridges for a while now and hasn't had any problems.

  • Is the LG 24MB35PY-B monitor any good? Since I have no way of seeing this in operation before buying.

I'm looking at this as it has height adjustable stand and for business use. No gaming. Main features 24" IPS LED LCD, Height Adjustable, Speakers, 16:9, matt screen.

Price after 20% discount is $212 delivered. Cheapest I could find elsewhere was around $269 delivered.

    • No gaming or photo editing and I can't see what else you'd have to worry about.

      • Went ahead and purchase. Saved $53 and free shipping. + $5.30 cashrewards cashback. Hopefully it will be ok.

  • Has anyone got any issues with PayPal checkout? Tried to buy two items from the same seller and I can't pay them in one transaction.

    • Did you add both to the cart first?

      • Yes, I did. Both items are from the same seller but when I proceed to checkout only one item shows up. Kinda weird!

One company to stay away from during this sale is Outbax Camping. All their solar panels have been hiked in price just in time for the Ebay deal.

    For example this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121115495201
Now $479, early last week it was $399, yesterday $419.

    • Funny that, they reduced their prices back to the pre-coupon level. Now their solar panels are actually very well priced (after 20% off).

Doesa anyone know if there has been some price hikes on the 8TB Seagate HDD? priced at $369 @ Futu compared to MSY's $309, with 20% off only comes down to $295. Hardly seems rushing into it when I don't need a new HDD just yet.

Anyone know how far away we are from 8TB price drops due to larger capacity drives being released?

    Hi guys
What is people's opinion on graysonline refurbished laptops
    There's an i7 4gb, or i5 8gb for $425!

    • Bought a Sony from them over a year ago. Fan wasn't working so took it back for warranty repair. Fixed but was never quite 100%. It was manageable though. Worked well enough for over a year until I dropped it and it's shutting itself off now :-(

    • It's still 2nd hand. Like a car, it might have lots of issues or none. Personally I don't think it's worth it.

  • Looks like Betta have jacked their prices up.

If you search for Dyson, it shows a lower price than after clicking on the item.

EDIT: looks like they fixed it now. One of them was showing as 100 dollars less on the search page, versus the product page.

(one of us! one of us!)

  • I am curious as to whether Cashrewards is making a loss on the eBay cashback still.

It has been nearly a month now since they dropped it to 1% and put it back up at 2% again claiming they were losing money

None of the other cashback sites have changed their cashback payments at all on eBay either?

Consider using Shopandmint or Pricepal for cashback as they also offer competitive rates.

    • +2

I'm still waiting for an answer regarding your comments on the other thread, where you were critical of Cash Rewards?

      • +1

"You can choose to believe what you like, but we WILL BE MAKING A LOSS on all eBay purchases from 6pm tonight."

This statement made on the 8/01/16 by Cashrewards Rep.

Why would they be continuing to make a loss on all eBay purchases when it is one, if not their biggest source of revenue?

I will look into this further for you as I don't believe the Cashrewards Rep was making honest statements.

Their two main competitors Pricepal and ShopandMint have not lowered their rates and are still at 2% and 3.5% respectively.

Seems a bit strange when the Cashrewards Rep claimed, "I've made it very clear in an earlier post that we need to drop to 1% as eBay has cut their commission to us (and others) by a substantial margin."

So its two competitors are taking an even bigger hit…?

        • +1

Shameless, I think you owe CR and TA in particular an apology! PricePal has dropped their eBay rate to 1.00% http://pricepal.com.au/eBay-Australia

        • @crouchie:

"Andrew really is a great guy, he's a genuine bloke who always helps out. I was in constant email contact with him recently, giving feedback about the site and he offered me a way to directly contact him should anything go wrong with my Cashrewards purchases.
I've never experienced service levels like this (or even close to this) at any other company so I'm glad that you're on the Cashrewards boat now :)
Shout out to an amazing guy Andrew…"

You clearly have a high level of bias since you were in contact directly with the Cashrewards owner.

Cashrewards claimed that 1% was the new standard 1 month ago.

Pricepal has now dropped their rate to 1% and ShopandMint is at 2.5% currently.

Does this mean this new lower cashback rate was enacted only very recently by eBay then?

        • @ShamelessBargains: Trust me, there's no bias over here, I'm just stating the facts of how things work around here. I've never come across another company so dedicated to helping out its customers. All my words are entirely of my own accord, I like to praise good service when I see it, especially these days when customer service seems to be an expression that has disappeared into the sands of time. Not only that, CR is a completely online entity, a space where service levels are at even lower lows. I strongly believe that good customer service wins customers many times over.
Look I can't speak for PP or S&M but it was clearly stated that eBay reduced their commissions to referral sites at the time the news broke out here on OzB. At least be grateful that the reps were honest enough to put it out in the open, there was nothing to gain by lying. On the other hand, PP silently dropped their rate, I don't see a rep anywhere stating the reason for this drop.
TA has personally said that CR was losing money when they voluntarily increased their rates. You can be as cynic as you want, but any bystander can attest to TA's rep around here, and he means what he says.
At the end of the day though, we are getting cash backs for free, just by spending 10 seconds extra by clicking through the CR site to eBay. That's what it comes down to, and the fact we're still getting that money by doing such a simple task is something that we must be thankful for, not distrustful of.

        • +1

          @crouchie: No bias?

Since becoming a member of Ozbargain you have upvoted for 56 of TA's deals out of 60.

"You can be as cynic as you want, but any bystander can attest to TA's rep around here, and he means what he says."

That's the main reason he was hired, to provide a positive front for CR on Ozbargain. Exactly why other companies use him to promote their deals because they know it will front page and sell more.

You have to remember CR is a business at the end of the day and they are only here to make a profit.

        • +1

@ShamelessBargains: Yes, no bias. Yes I have upvoted TA's deals, I upvote them because I find the deals good value, just like every other deal that I find good value. TA happens to post good deals, simple as that.
Did you read his forum post on the story of his CR journey? He wasn't hired with any evil motive, the company was helping him out at a time when things were tough. I'm sure TA is eternally grateful to CR for the opportunity. He still posts deals on OzB, whether or not they're CR related. That's dedication. I'm sure if it were anyone else the deals will only be with the associated company as I'm sure it's a lot of effort to post for both your rep and non-rep deals.
Yes, CR is a business, and yes they make a profit, but business is not all about the bottom line. Any Business 101 course will tell you that. It's the overall experience, customer loyalty, customer service and branding that all come together to create a successful business (I'm not even from a business background, this is common sense). What CR have done is make a loss on eBay purchases, as they've said, and make it up some other way. Quite simple. What they are losing financially on eBay they are more than making up in customer goodwill.
Read any newspaper, and you see some company or the other is involved in some dodgy dealings and so forth. Lumping CR into this category is plain ruthless.

        • Oi Shameless, click this link mate and have a perusal; just in case you didn't see a similar comment further up………….
eBay is now 1% at PricePal !!! (http://pricepal.com.au/eBay-Australia)

Queue the apology to CR and TA and eat some humble pie!

        • -3

@cim85: ShopandMint are still at 2.5% and Pricepal have only dropped their rates now rather than over a month ago like Cashrewards.

I would like to know why Cashrewards jacked their rates down way before their competitors before I am eating any humble pie.

Wait until sale is over and see if it goes back to $1600, if so they may have a case to answer, the ACCC just fined Kogan for this.

      • Artifical inflation ay, Ive noticed futus intel processors suspiciously high priced too.

  • +6

I'm not knocking the deal, but ebay has drifted so far from the "level playing field for all sellers, regardless of their size" the founder envisaged the marketplace to be its ridiculous.

I dream of the day someone starts a viable competitor that is Australian owned that is wildly successful….

    • +1

We had one, remember the original auction site sold.com.au? It was much bigger than Ebay circa 2000, until it was bought by them and shut down, I'm very surprised Gumtree is still around and as cheap since being bought by Ebay too.

      • +2

Ebay buying gumtree is a classic protective move.

By controlling their only viable competition - they can plan for the future and continue on unimpeded.

Sure gumtree steals some of ebays business - but now they control exactly HOW MUCH business they steal.

  • Thanks, picked up a 2x3m 4wd awning from Outbax, $135 delivered.

  • Picked up a TP-Link D7 modem/router finally. I've never tried one of these eBay deals before, do they charge you the full amount then refund the saving? Because although the invoice and eBay emails show the discounted price, Paypal just informed me I paid the FULL amount … uggh

    • +1
      • Fair enough .. still think it's weird that the Paypal app doesn't mention the discount though.

        • It used to show the discounted amount now it shows full amount. You can see the disounted amount in details page of paypal transaction.

  • +5

Just checked out a 6600k at Futu. Looked at the purchase history and can see a $60 increase coinciding with this promotion.

    • Yeah it seems that Futu/ShoppingExpress are taking most of the discount for themselves on a lot of products, the only products that haven't risen in price seem to be EOL or old models. I wonder if Ebay care as they are also ripping them off.

      • so they are stealing our money?

        • +3

"Stealing" is a bit strong, we don't have to buy their price-inflated products.

But the ACCC just fined Kogan for exactly this practice.

        • @CH:

Too bad dicksmith got liquidated, else they are the worst and would get fined too.

what I don't get is why jack up prices?

Ebay is paying the discount not those stores.

        • @tyler.durden:
I think ebay are allowing these stores to pocket the discount during these 'sales' as an inducement to get them selling on ebay in the first place.
(instead of via their own online stores)

        • @damoo:

how would they pocket the discount?

ebay only pays the percentage discount, not extra to the store..

I think it is more to do with profiteering since they know more ppl would jump on this sale cos of the discount, so they increase their price to earnt the same profit or a bit more..depending on the item..

          so for e.g. they charge
          $100

          now increase to $120.

          Ebay pays $20.
          They earn extra $20 + $100

          ==
If they kept the price $100,
          Ebay pays $20,
but the store still only made $100.

So by increasing the price, they made an extra $20.
And they take advantage of the increase in sales, cos ppl who thinks discount, so they buy..

        • @tyler.durden: Hmmm… I think you've just answered your question of 'how would they pocket the discount?'. If they jacked the prices up when these eBay sales are about to begin that means they're selling their products for more than their original prices, whereas the consumers aren't saving anything in the deals. I don't think eBay is knowingly letting them pull those tricks off though, or probably not interfering with how sellers should sell their products. In the end, the buyers should be aware and do their own homework.

        • +3

          @AussieDaddy:

I have contacted the ACCC about this so lets see if anything happens. Its just plain wrong and if kogan got caught so should others

        • @CH: I pulled up JB HiFi on this practice. They ended up giving the discount off their regular price and not the 'inflated to RRP' price during the sale.

        • @sprof: did you contact futu direct? Im looking at the 6600k too.

        • +1

          @Alpacino299:

Yeah they told me the price listed is there best price so I told them about the kogan situation with no response as I thought

        • @sprof: no surprise, i picked up the 6600k just now with 10% off for $314 from another seller.

    • This happens every time (except for site wide coupons). Are you new to eBay coupon codes? The stores either increase prices or take listings off.

      • Yes, ppl who are regular ozbargainer would know this trick from all previous ebay discounts sales.

IT is just very annoying and something needs to be done about this.

Kogan got fined for something similiar but I don't know if it had anything to do with the ebay discount though.

        ==
this has been done in store but some retailers

but putting on RRP and then showing a slash with new price.

The ebay scam is similiar just in a different way.

        ==

The ebay prices either are the same before the discount or in some cases is even more expensive than the store sale price.

  • Can someone please recommend me a good 24" monitor? I came across the Samsung S24C45KB at futu for $239 but I read on Amazon UK reviews that some complained about quality of resolution as well as the viewing angle.

I'm looking for 1920x1080. The Samsung S24C45KB is 16:10 but I prefer 16:9 aspect ratio.

    Thanks.

    • Aspect ratio will depend on your main use. For movies, 16:9 is better. For general desktop work, 16:10 is better as you get more vertical real estate.

  • Futu?

Sorry, you are not allowed to purchase this item

This item is only available to buyers who have not purchased 1 or more items from this seller in the past 10 days.

  • I was wondering, I've made 2 separate purchases from FUTU during this promo, does that mean I've exhausted the maximum discount? I am not sure if the 'Two transactions per person' applies to purchases from stores/businesses or the whole deal.

I've just tried to make a third purchase from a different store (before this expires midnight tonight) and the code has worked but I am afraid that eBay will charge me the full price or demand that I pay them back or something, if it goes through.
