@chiefer: professional ozbargainers found a loophole where codes where applied to a already 20% off sale. myer only changed the price back to normal price, when do u expect them to change it?

        • +3

@Turd: I think that the timing is still a bit muddy and questionable, taking into account the price some items usually retail for. That being said, there is some major confusion as to loophole, I think what has occurred that there are several items with differing % off. I don't think there has been double dipping as such. Just a double up of promotions overlapping.

Would like to think their only department had enough foresight to see that the above was a potential issue and prices should have been reviewed on all items before deploying such a promotion.

Appreciate your response and the time you took to reply :)

        • +4

          @chiefer:

I agree the change of time was weird, surely if a sale was supposed to end Midnight Sunday 22nd, it should have ended then, however Myer didnt want to employ someone to change the prices at that time due to the extra money and time spent to do so. Their team manager/supervisor probably thought no one would notice.

This new code CMYER20 was probably approved by COB Friday and eBay instructions were to have it on Monday. eBay support is far away in a different land.

So what happened was the eBay Myer team saw/alerted to the fact taht people were getting extra discounts and thus prices reverted back to original. It is a dick move but what do you expect them to do? Stop the CMYER20 promotion which will take up 24hrs for eBay to process or change prices themselves.

Some people were able to get discounts (good on them).

But to call ACCC on this is like wasting their time for bigger and more important issues such as Foxtel and GoT monopoly or the NBN Co paying Telstra to "fix up" the copper network etc..

ok I digress sorry. and all the above is just a speculation.

        • @Turd: Yeah agree with all that, and your Fox and NBN Co points too brother :)

        • @chiefer: I agree. Nothing wrong with a double discount; how many times do you not see "extra 30% off already discounted items" in their store?
Myer is highly misleading in their pricing. Their own staff once told me "we often don't understand it either" when I asked them about it. So many times an individual item is discounted, then there is a "section-wide" discount, and then "department-wide" discounts. It's enough to confuse anyone.

But yes, if you tell someone "I am going to give you 20% off", you can't go and change the base price at the same time. That is misleading.

        • @Make it so: That's my point, im not sure 'Whoops we forgot to fix it' really washes. I get where @Turd is coming from though.

        • @Turd:

Myer's IT systems have led to horrendous experiences for me and numerous cart abandonments. Perhaps they have off shored some of their IT? Either way, their IT infrastructure is in urgent need of work.

      • Sure not against the rules, but it's definitely against the spirit of the sale. I hope ebay take steps in future to stop retailers from doing this.

  • +5

Far out thats some dodgy crap from Myer. I hope they get in trouble for this, but I doubt it.

It should be put in the post description that Myer increased all the prices.

  • +6

This jacking up prices on eBay before / during sales is illegal under the trade practices act. Kogan has been fined for this in the past, I really think the ACCC needs to go after all of the ebay retailers that engage in this behaviour.

    • +2

If only the ACCC actually did as much as they should :(

  • +2

Not good. All previously discounted price are back to normal. So really, no difference!

  • +1

WTF? I was about to buy the Neato 8500 vacuum this morning, wanted to check with my wife…
    at 10am the 20% + 20% stacked.

now they've jacked up the price so there's no discount… WTF?

should have bought it without checking with the financial controller!

    • +1

      Feel your pain man :(

      • The pain of having a financial controller? Me too.

    • You should be blaming her

  • +6

Hi OP please mark it as expired. It is extremely frustrating when we see this promo not being a promo.

  • +1

This price jacking really is not on. It's ok for people here who are price savvy and use sites like this to do research/awareness, but this kind of stuff is a total scam for regular folks who think they are getting a bargain. It is straightforward trickery and deceit and preying on less aware people.

  • what a farce. they should be ashamed

  • +3

Dick Smith, i mean Kogan, I mean Harvey Norman, i mean Myer strikes again

  • +1

Had a number of items in my cart. Checked early in the morn and the prices were the same. By about 11am the prices had risen significantly. Not impressed Myer.

  • The deal was good before they changed their discounted prices !

  • +2

Does myer have a facebook page?
    Everyone should complain on there.

    • +1
      • +3

I messaged their page directly to remind them of the Kogan incident and that we've got screenshots of the price jacking.

Will probably go nowhere, but at least I tried.

    • Got the standard canned response:

"You will find that eBay run different promotions which will effect the price of some items.

The prices have not actually increased but have reverted back to the original price.

You will find that pricing may also differ from prices in store or at Myer online."

  • Price jacking

  • +1

sick of these prices hikes before/during sales. what do they takes us for?

  • +3

Im new to ozbargain, but have been visiting the site for a while. I know TA is the MVP here but I dont get why ppl just upvote such crappy deal like this no matter who posts it? ebay deals are so frequent they mean next to nothing. I think ppl should value their votes more better, otherwise its just popularity contest lol

TA I think ur great but im have to use my first ever neg to show my disapproval of ebay promotion and ppl thoughtless upvoting!

EDIT: I cant neg bcoz im too new here - just imagine there is an extra neg pls lol

    • +1

Deal was not crappy when posted. I + the deal after checking some items and they were good prices. but Myer changed the prices and I revoked my + vote.

      • +1

I think all ebay promos are pretty crappy tbh, the offers are never as good as they look on paper with price jacking and shipping costs factored in

        • +3

          But they aren't all crappy

I got a bissell carpet washer from Masters for $300 - after it was reduced in the bay store and had another 20% off.

The eBay sales can be sensational

        • +1

Just because its X% off doesnt mean everything will be a bargain you'll just find a few good deals here and there.

      • +1

        same @ aldoduco

    • -3

I have tried to address this issue and the Mods are looking into it. They have increased the minimum votes to reach front page to 25, but for some users 25 is nothing as they're too popular.

Its really annoying that the OP has decided to not to include a disclaimer warning people of the price increase. The general public who view this site, must be thinking the deal is good.

      • The general public may not have known about the price decreases over the weekend. So taking 20% off Myer is pretty good.

        • I'm yet to see any good deals posted after they have increased the prices.

20% off is effectively much lower once applied.

        • @GameChanger: I havent checked the prices but are they the same price as RRP and in store? If so then 20% off is great! IMO.

        • +1

@Turd: If the prices were great, we would see individual deals on the front page from this.

There is only 1 deal, which the OP has stated the price isn't as good as the past.

        • +1

@GameChanger: Let's just say I am a person who just browsed Myer Website, I wanted to buy http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/samsonite--lite-cube-sof… $999, Then I go to ozbargain and find out that I can buy the same item for 20% off on the Myer eBay website.

Now isnt this a deal to that person?
Dont think about what prices COULD have been, think about prices now.

Like house prices…. Price of CBD home used to be say 300k with backyard and waterfront. Now it is over 3million, will you say that prices are jacked up now?

        • -1

@Turd: Why is that a deal? Suppose that same product can be bought from another store cheaper than the applied discount, why should one only look at Myer prices?

Have you read what you wrote? Consumer products don't appreciate in prices and so your example is the horrible to demonstrate a point.

The fact is that even after the discount is applied some other stores have a price that is cheaper! People think just because there is a discount applied, it must be bargain.

        • @GameChanger: Ya many people even look at online prices, they go instore and buy at full RRP price. Monster cables from Harvey Normans.

        • +2

          @GameChanger:
Gamechanger, I hadn't logged into this site in quite a while, mainly coz of the negativity and ungratefulness people show. Having read from the outside looking in, I must say i'm appalled at your behaviour. Your ridiculous comments seem to be spread across every forum and every deal on this site and never once offering anything constructive.. What is your actual agenda? I honestly don't think anyone should have to keep reading the absolute garbage you put out. I read your mate is now in a permanent sin bin, and I'm sure I speak for many if you could please do us all a favour and join him.

        • -3

@themob: What is your agenda? Seems you have some vested interest, as your activity is unusual.

        • @GameChanger: unusual activety? Ye, you're right. I best just get back to work. No 'point' in continuing this further lol.

        • +1

@themob: so much beefs on ozbargain lol

  • Has anyone used this code with the $100 voucher from last month?

    • +2

      The codes cannot be stackable.

  • disgusting….all the espresso machines back to full retail

  • +1

At what number of negative votes does this get removed from the front page?

    • -1

It won't get removed, TA is too popular so the up votes will still keep flowing.

  • Not your fault op, but I'm going to have to beg because of Myer's actions here.

  • Ebay really needs to sort this out. Is hurting them the most. Screw you Myer.

  • Had my eye on a small appliance and checked when this was posted and it seemed a good offer. Checked again after seeing all the feedback and the price had gone up. I can't imagine this is a great look for your brand.

  • +1

I want to change my vote!

    • +1

-1 for vote changing to be implemented!

      Edit - oops, make that a +1

  • +5

Revolting. How is this not illegal?

    • ehh? 20% off code for Myers Online eBay Store should be illegal now?

      • +4

loll ur on like a protect myer/ebay quest arent u? i believe he means the price "corrections" (according to you) should be illegal .. :) not the discounts…

just remember it's not the consumers problem if the company has been to lazy to "correct" their pricing before a sale is activated… this is ozbargain not ozOkprice after all .. you take bargains away from us it wont go well …loll better not to even show us a bargain than show it then take it away .. :P

        • -1

hahah I know I sound like a advocate for rip off prices of Myers.

ya the company changed prices now the people revolt. BUT what about the few that were able to get discounts.

          Snooze you lose!

Still prices of 20% off are still good. For example…
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Lego-Technic-Crawler-Crane-42…
RRP is $199, if you buy from shop@home lego store it is the same price but add delivery and maybe 5-10% off for VIP points, but you can get it 20% off with the Myer eBay coupon code!! How great is taht!!

        • +6

@Turd: woooah dude i get your point .. say you walked into a store its says 20% off everything and doesn't specify in the poster or in the signs that its off the ORIGINAL price (myer has a 100 signs usually to point things like this out loll) … you take it to a counter thinking awesome got a bargain … they then go oh sorry that's not what we meant by the sale… you will very very likely go right well no thanks then and walk out of the store and not even bother looking at anything else (which might miss a few discounted products.. probably not bargains) .. this is the online version of that .. :) except its even worse cuz the prices go up in front of your eye's! …

like i posted in the collect sale when good guys jacked up the moto g price by $30 … i took my money elsewhere because i didnt appreciate the practice… have your shit sorted before a sale and ppl know what they are in for off the bat :)

  • +2

    Prices raised. Myer being scum.

  • +1

Was excited after seeing 20% off to buy something that I've been watching at myer and today the price is way up. This is the time of internet and computer and we can keep track of prices easily but myer is still thinking we are living in stone age when they jack up the price.

  • +2

Prices increased across the board…poor form, negging this one (spend 200 get 100 voucher was still OK)

  • +5

One day Myer will understand what Competition means, they have never been competitive and they wonder why they are in the shit.

    • They have exclusive LEGO sets, these will sell RRP no matter what.

Keep them coming myer! eg. LEGO Porche - $500

  • +1

    Disgusting from Myer.

  • +7

This just proves why Aussies now prefer shopping online overseas. Many of our large bricks and mortar stores are deceptive traders. Doing business is all about trust. Sadly, these traders have gone rogue. You'd think the fine handed down to Kogan had taught them a lesson, but it just shows they do not care as the penalty was too small and hey it's a tax deduction! The ACCC should of gone after numerous eBay retailers, not just one store to make an example. The fines are ridiculous. It's better to break the law and pay the tiny fine IF convicted than follow it. Woolworths recently ignored ACCC trading laws and traded on a day which they wasn't suppose to (Easter) because they have done their costs analysis and realized they made more money breaking the law. Instead of playing competitively, the retailers simply lobby our politicians and ensure all overseas orders from 2017 onwards will have GST tax added. That's how you do business in USAtralia, lobby our pollies and take away resources for the likes of ACCC, Foreign Investment Review Board, etc so powerful groups and individuals can break the law with immunity. This sale is like those bogus Rugs a Million TV ads I see every friggen month. 90% OFF CLOSING DOWN SALE for the past 10 years.

  • +3

was looking at this in the morning and thought to myself "yeh I'll get to that later tonight" - now all the discounts have been removed.

    Pretty bad form from Myer.

Appreciate the deal from @tightarse but unfortunately I have to neg

  • +1

You don't jack up prices during the sale! Was going to get something during my work lunch break but noooo… they had to be greedy

  • Myer old tactics again. No bargain as price has been jacked up.

  • Surely this beaches the ACL.

  • i hate myer

    • how about dick ?

      • i love dick

  • Dirty tactics from Myers

  • The Parrot Zik 3 which are normally $599, are now $399 with this deal. No $20 iTunes card now, but this is a sweet deal.

  • Down voting due to my disdain for Myer and their dirty price jacking practices.

  • +6

    Calm down, people.
Myer had weekend promotions which were still active this morning by accident.
The weekend promotions just ended, they didn't "jack up" the prices.

    • Ok then let's wait til this coming weekend.
If there is a sale and the prices remain the same on eBay, we should all complain on Facebook

    • +3

I don't really get all the hate. I appreciate we all want a bargain but someone has made a mistake and let the promotions overlap when clearly it shouldn't have.

  • prices have been jacked up

  • Dodgy

  • +2

I came here to be entertained by the negs….I was not disappointed.

  • -1

Downvoted because the bandwagon is HOT!

For reals though, this is a really cheap practice by Myer.

Don't worry TA, we're downvoting the deal. Not you <3

  • Not cool behaviour!
Not cool that the one thing thats the same price as their site when i purchased it is now a further 20% off and now I feel ripped off!

  • They also increased the prices in the virtual store

  • Negative vote due to the poor experience created by Myer from having deep discounts offered when the deal first went live and then a subsequent price increase, reducing the level of discount

  • More price rises and item removals. This happens every time. Best thing to do is purchase within the first hour of the code going live.

  • +1

Had this on my watch list for sometime, and thought of jumping on it with the 20% off, only to find out they've increased the price!!!

Look at the sold price! Are you freaking kidding me????

    • -1

Wow, there's so much proof for the ACCC here - it was $269 back in april so there's no defence at all that an old sale had just ended or anything.

I hope the ACCC throw the book at them but I doubt they will… and even if they did it would be a pathetic $32,000 fine like Kogan got which is nothing for Myer.

Edit: Reported them to ACCC. I hope something gets done.
