  • What documents do you need to bring in to apply?

    • +1

      Medicare and license,

  • I wonder how negotiable it is buying a phone outright. Price seems to be quite expensive. Was hopong they could discount the p20 pro to below 1k

    • -2

      Who or what is hopong?

      • +1

Woops was meant to say hoping JB would be willing to drop their P20 pro below $1000 so i could buy it with the $200 gift card.

  • Do you have to port in right away? or can you wait couple of weeks?

    • Gift card is only issued when service activated… so activate within promo period. Sign-up is immediate activation once porting is actioned

  • +1

Just to clarify, can I use the $200 gift card for anything or is it limited to just buying a phone.

    • +1

      anything

    • +2

Yes you can wear it as a hat if you like.

    • Yes, anything. It's a ordinary JB giftcard, confirmed it instore today.

  • I am already on boost. Will i still be eligible for the $200 card

    • -4

Yes, as long as you are not with Telstra. MVNO are all kind of considered like other carriers.

      • +8

NO - Do not listen to this advice. TELSTRA PREPAID/BOOST/BELONG DO NOT COUNT AS PORTS. They are all part of Telstra.

100% not eligible. Source: In all the 1000+ new connections I've done, that's experience enough.

Just wondering if anyone knows how long this offer is going on for? Just paid my next month with amaysim so if it lasts a month then I’m all good, if not I’ll just have to suck it up and go for it

    • ends Thursday apparently

    • Still going today

  • Any idea how to put back the 200$ JB gift card to the telstra plan ? Thanks.

    • 200 $

      ..

  • Is this on "Full Telstra" with access to the entire network and has VoLTE & VoWifi?

And can we port directly to this from ALDI mobile being a partial Telstra mvno?

    • +2

Yeah it's direct Telstra, the same as signing up with Telstra.

  • +1

Do I sign up with Telstra in the jbhifi store or can I do it online and go in store and show them?

    • +2

You'll have to do it at a JB store, that way JB get commission from Telstra on the sale, hence being able to give you a gift card

  • +2

My father in-law Took advantage of this offer today had two accounts with Vodafone swapped over to Telstra JB hi-fi deal $39 each a month grabbed the S9 which they knock off $400 to the total price and knocked off another $200 from the other account so ended up with an s9 $599 outright x2 $39 plans 12 month contract 20gb of data on each plan. Took about 2hrs to sign up but worth the wait..

    • +1

How did you get them to give you a 33% discount on a relatively new phone?

      • +1

There deal is $400 straight off the Samsung s9 which is currently $799 outright and they added the other phone plans $200 gift card to make it $599. Didn't need two phones so it was a win win. Pretty good deal considering the S9 is originally $1200 so it's half of the price just sacrificing the other $200 gift card for the other plan. Hope I've explained this well enough haha

        • +1

What did you do to make him knock off $400 off 8nitially?

        • @lovepub: hey mate that was a deal they were advertising in the shop. Aswell as many other phone plan deals. Sign up to a $39 monthly plan 20gb data 12 month contract get $400 off a S9 instead of a $200 gift card and no phone

    • S9 for $599, after using the gift card…..

      • -1

        $1200 full price dicounted to $1000 ( $200 discount ) and the the 2 x $200 Gift Cards = $599+-

    • Saw this deal last month but it was supposed to end July 7th.

  • Does anyone know when the deal ends?

    • +1

I believe it ends on the 2/09/2018

      • Near-Perfect timing. My Kogan 365 Day Plan ends mid Sept.

  • +1

How about with Samsung Note 9 deal??

    • +3

      lmfao

    • +2

No it's not, have you seen the Australian landscape and how the population is spread out? Use your noggin!

  • I've got the Groupon amaysim deal and am on my 17th day. Still have more than 5 months to go. Now since the plan was really cheap, I'm thinking of I should port back to Telstra? I was thinking of using the amaysim and get another prepaid sim whenever I see here to use the data on my deal SIM phone.
This deal still seems too good to pass on… What should I do…. What should I do ?

    • +2

There will be better deals in 5 months time…

      • source?

  • no international calls/sms :(

    • +3

      WhatsApp.

    • +1

      no international calls/sms :(

Either get the next plan up for another $20, or get a pack for $10 a month which you could then add or take off.

  • Am currently on a month by month post paid with Telstra. So was going to churn out to vodaphone and then a few hours later go into jbhifi.
So if I understand right it sounds like this will work.
I will get the $200 gift voucher and the cheaper phone plan..

But there is a risk a Telstra robot may run in the background and in the future take the $10 discount of my plan. But the voucher I don't think JB can take back even if I don't spend it straight away.

Has anyone ever had this robot etc.. kick in and increase the cost of their plan before?

    • opps was reading online looks like can't do porting on Sundays. I guess will wait till tomorrow.

    • I did this from PrePaid and it worked. YMMV coming from post paid though. I churned to Kogan and walked in and got the deal an hour later. This was yesterday. Still waiting to churn back to Telstra, but I'm assuming it hasn't done so yet cause I only signed on at 5.30pm on a Saturday and I missed the weekend churn window.

      • Did you end up giving this a go today? I'm in the same boat.

  • This or an optus with handset :/ can’t decide which works out better for the Samsung note 9

  • Expiry on this deal?

    • +2

      Previous page:

"I believe it ends on the 2/09/2018"

  • Just to clarify, this is an instore deal only, that provides a $200 JB voucher which can be used in conjunction with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/396212.
I noticed the link doesn't provide a reference to the JB voucher. What do we refer to when in store asking for this deal?

    • +1

Someone on the first page of comments posted an image to a hand drawn poster plastered on a JB Hi-Fi window. You can use that, otherwise just mention this deal over the phone to confirm first.

  • Is this deal still on? The advertised promo on telstra went back up on their website.

  • Does the voucher have to be used on the spot? Have two numbers I can bring across but don’t want to use the vouchers at the moment.

    • +2

No, you get a physical JB gift card to use whenever you want.

  • Does anyone know if JB Hifi can sign up business plans?

  • I have been trawling through sites all morning and can't find my way back to a page that stated that there is a deal for new customers to telstra where the price is $49 / month but you still get the JB gift voucher. Can any variefy this?

    • In store only. I went in this morning and got it.

      • So this is correct that you miss out on the $10 discount but still get a $200 voucher?

        • You get both mate.

        • @CrushJelly:

          I'm sorry I know I am clueless.

I have 3 phones sitting around at home not used. I want to get 3 new SIMs with new numbers etc to go in these. We'll call these phones A, B, C

I then have a mobile coming to the end of contract with Telstra. I'm assuming the JB deal won't work with this in any way as I'm with Telstra already. We'll call this phone D

So what will JB do for me in regards to phone A, B, C and D?

        • +1

          @jacevy:

If you port over 3 numbers into Telstra and sign up for the $39/month 12 month plans, you'll get a $200 gift card for each number you port over.

          That's as far as I know anyway…

          Good luck!

        • @CrushJelly:

          And again I'm clueless.
I thought porting was coming from a different carrier.
The 3 phones aren't with any carrier. They will be a new service.

        • +1

@jacevy: if they new services you will get the $200 jb vouchers for each but you won’t get the $10/month discount as that’s a port in credit

        • +1

@Slo20: You could probably get a new number with kogan or something for a few bucks and then port that number to telstra to get the full benefit.

        • +4

@jacevy: First, go to the supermarket and buy three Optus or Vodafone $2 SIM cards. Then you need to activate them as new services (as if you were intending to use them as normal) with the included numbers. After that’s all gone through (confirm by test calling the numbers from a landline or a mobile with credit/on a plan) go sign up at JB, stating that you’ve got three numbers at Optus/Vodafone that you’d like to keep, and you’ll get the full deal ($10 off per month and the $200 voucher).

When porting a prepaid number, like you would be doing here, there is no account number required for the port - only your date of birth. That makes it easy, but keep in mind that the date of birth has to be an exact match on both ends (Telstra’s and Optus or Vodafone’s). There is a slight chance that you might not get approved for three services. In the event that this happens, you can of course sign them up under a different name (e.g your partner) but if you decide to do this, then you’ll need to repeat the initial prepaid card step since, like I mentioned, date of birth for ports need to match - if they’re signing up at Telstra under their name then the prepaid must also be under their name.

        • +1

@Slo20: incorrect - new numbers will not get the $200 gift card. Port ins only.

  • Does anyone know much about the AFL live pass free as a Telstra customer? Is it free until further notice or 1 year from activing.

    Any info is greatly appreciated

    Edit, removed typo word

    • +1

It's free until further notice. I've been using it through my wife's Telstra account for at least 3 years.

      • Thank you

  • can you opt to not buy anything when you signed up and just then flip the gift card online?

    • +1

      yes

  • Anyone know if you get the gift card if you sign up to a plan with a phone “included”

Or is it just the BYO plans

    • It’s the same plans either way. You would just have to get a phone on MRO (monthly repayment options).

  • Does this deal work if u port in from another carrier, but also have another pre-paid Telstra number?

    • What you mean. The number being ported from another carrier is eligible. The Telstra pre paid isn’t …. if you asking whether they care that you have other existing Telstra accounts then they don’t.

    • +1

      Yes

  • Signed up before 11am today, but Optus hasn't approved the port.
Can't get in contact with Optus support, suppose they take their time to release you.
JB won't give me my gift card until it is approved, so I'll go back next week.

At least I have the new sim card for when Optus finally decides to release my number.
    Can't wait.

    • +2

      Porting doesn't operate on Sundays

    • Same here.

  • Asked staff at MQ Shoppong Centre, I was told that I have to be with a different provider for 3 months to get this deal, so porting to vodafone and port back to Telstra won't work.

Can someone confirm if this is true?

Currently I am with Telstra SIM only (already out of contract).

    Thanks in advance.

    • I was told that I have to be with a different provider for 3 months

I've been reading 30 days here. If you still have a Telstra SIM Only that's active, even if you could get signed up, you might lose that $10 a month discount later on from earlier comments.

  • I just called out local store.

The guy looked up the end date and it is the 31/08.

He suggested going to a Woolies and get a $2 SIM and then after 3 days porting over. Only thing is you can't keep your number.

    • +1

Ummm… Isn't that the whole idea. Porting your number? Why can't you keep it?

      • Why can't you keep it?

Maybe jacevy meant get a new number with the $2 SIM and port that over, so you'd lose your original number, which you'd need to cancel?

  • +2

Anybody actually been denied after porting out and back in?

Currently paying the 2 year old $39/10gb on Telstra. :(

I'm hoping to upgrade my plan and use the credit towards the note 9 deal. I was going to get a note 8 closer to the end of the year but a $1299 note 9 is pretty hard to resist.

  • I am on this deal last year same deal from last year they had this. It expires next month.

Any idea what happens after it expires?

Does it just go month to month and you can cancel at anytime or do they charge you for calls and data?

  • Can we sign up for the higher valued plans for more data (I'm looking at the 40GB plan) and get the $10 discount or is this strictly for the $49 plan with a $10 discount?

    • Yes, you should get the credit. Believe the $10/mth credit is for porting in from another provider when signing up to a new BYO plan.

  • Just spend $550 at Jb last week, and really want this deal!
Thinking about getting the deal, re buying my item with the gift card then returning using the 'cash receipt' I got from my first transaction.

  • Optus 30gb with Optus Sport(UCL, EPL, UEFA Nations Cup) for $36 for 12 months which is $432

    vs

this telstra deal with 20gb with sport( all year round with AFL, AFLW, NRL, Netball and the Hyundai A-League) for $39 for 12 months which is $468, with the bonus, $268?

    • +1

Interestingly, I'll more than likely be joining the wife on Telstra (just scratching my brain what to spend that $200 on), but will probably move my folks to the Optus deal as it includes data sharing, which I can add the kids iPads for $10 a month after the bundled discounts.

  • +1

Good deal :) Your $39/month 20GB ends up being ~30c more expensive per month compared to the current Kogan 23GB 365 day deal (buy one get one free), assuming you were going to buy $200 worth of RRP stuff from JBHIFI anyway. ~$22/month for 20GB data with the best telco in Aus isn't bad. Or with the HN iPhone X $94/month, selling the iPhone for $1500 means you get 100GB shareable data with the 2nd best telco for $31.5/month :D

  • How many JB HIFI gift cards can I use in one single purchase?

    • +1

I think that has been answered before, no limit; but I can't guarantee it.

Thinking about this for a Note 9 512 GB ????
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/396052

You could perhaps do better still if you are an RACV member.

RACV members 5% off Woollies gift cards (also cashrewards, but I don't know exactly how that one works).

Buy $500 Woollies gift card from RACV, pay $475; take your gift card to Woollies and buy 10x $50 "Ultimate Teen Gift cards [1] and [2], which can be used at JB", then you will have $50 worth of points (10,000). WW has a limit of 10 gift vouchers per rewards account….

Using only one WW rewards account, you'll get $75 value ($25 discount on the RACV part and $50 credit to your rewards account) — if it makes sense to port a number to a Telstra plan and get another $200 JB gift card and you will need another $799 to complete the deal or $1274 outlay in total ($475 to RACV, $799 direct to JB).

NB: If you have "Ultimate Kids cards" from the latest expired Coles offer, then you would be even better off [3] & [4]. There /may/ be another Coles one soon, it seems they are due, but perhaps not in enough time for the Note 9 purchase.

Anyone know if you strictly need to be 18 to sign up? I'm a few months off and don't feel like dragging my mum to the jb haha

    • +1

It’s a post paid contract which requires the applicant to be 18 or over, unfortunately. Plus, since you need to port your number in, you wouldn’t be able to get the deal even if it was for under 18’s, as your number isn’t under your name at the moment and therefore wouldn’t port.

  • This is a good deal to pair with the Huawei P20 Pro :)

  • Can anyone tell me if they make you show ID?
