I have one of these and think its great. Have had no issues when charging AA/AAA 1.2V rechargeables or 14500/18650 4V LiIon rechargables.

    • How long does it take to charge a flat AA & 18650? the review seems to indicate ~2hr & ~4hrs?

      • +3

Took me around 4hrs at 500mA for 4x18650 3000mA Samsung 30Q though they weren't completely flat

      • Those times seem about right - I havent actually timed them tbh

        • +3

I got one of these last year and it's not that great. Some batteries it pretends to charge but doesnt. Other times it charges for a small amount. I wasn't using the best cells, however my "dumb charger" wasn't having any problems with it. I ended up buying a different one, and use it rarely.

          I feel this one's a little OzHyped.

        • @Kangal:

I have the 2 and 1 cell versions and they have done a superb job of charging: AAA, AA Eneloops, 18650, 14500 lithiums and the double one gets used very heavily.

        • @Kangal:

Thanks that's what I need to know. You can try heating up the older cells with a hairdryer. This will lower the internal resistance and it should work fine. I really hate these way too smart charger which can be dumber than dumb chargers.

    • Does it check for older cells?

I have a Maha C9000 and it rejects older cells which are perfectly suitable for remotes and low drain devices. It drives me crazy I can't charge them with a smart charger which isn't that smart at all.

      • This may help…

        'Reviving batteries that won't charge
If a battery is really dead, most chargers will reject it. But never fear, I'm going to show you how to revive dead batteries so the chargers will recognize them. Basically, you just force some voltage into the battery to get it up to a minimum…
…Anyway, here are the ways to resurrect dead rechargeable batteries:
Dumb Charger method. If you have another, cheaper charger that doesn't test the battery voltage, just stick in the dead battery for a while until it's charged enough to be recognized in your good charger.'

        Source

        • I usually just put in a healthy cell, wait for it to pass the internal resistance test then quickly swap with older cells. It works but troublesome.

You can't revive cells with high internal resistance. All you can do is heat them up with a hairdryer that will temporarily lower the IR. This should pass most way too smart charger tests.

Got my Xtar VC4 USB $22.99 thought already a good deal but this one is cheaper.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Xtar-VC4-USB-Li-ion-Ni-MH-Ba…

    • This price for VC4 is too good to be true

      • +2

I received it in 10 days from China.

So far so good and the security code checked online all good.

"Authentic product of XTAR. Please rest assured to use."

  • +2

Would this go with the LADDA's?

    • +5

      No probs, see review above

      • +2

Thanks, bought 1 as it's community approved :)

    • +4

      yes

  • Great price. I spent nearly $40 on the Efest LUC V4, should have just got this instead.

    • Can you use a LUC V4 for 1.2V NiMH (AA, AAA) batteries? I seem to remember it not being compatible, but am not certain. I looked on the base and it doesn't have NiMH listed so not a good sign, I suppose.

      • Not sure? I only use it for 18650.

  • Been looking for a good cheap charger for a while to get into the charging game! Thanks!

    • +3

      Username checks out.

  • I bought one for $12 didn’t expect alot but it is actually really good, I even charge size c batteries too,

  • Does it work well with Eneloops?

  • +2

Needed a 18650 charger, good timing!

  • Just wish it could do 20700 + 21700

    • +1

It does. I've got one on my desk right now with a 21700 Vapcell happily charging at 2A. It also takes my 20700 Vapcells & 20700 iJoy batteries.

  • Thank you! Got one at 13 ish a few days ago and was happy. Even better at 9.5 ish, bought a second!

  • +2

Remember to buy a 5V 2A wall adapter to power this

    • -1

Isn't this one USB powered? Are you thinking of the lii-500?

      • +3

It is USB powered, but you'll want the full 2A if you want to fast charge or charge more than 2 at a time.

        • Ah right, cheers. For some reason I was thinking of a dc power cable instead of USB adapter.

    • +1

      Something like this?

      • Yep that one should put out enough current; Apple chargers on the other hand are only 1A

    • can use samsung 2A phone charger ?

EDIT: Just saw the ebay link. So yes.

      • I used mine with my Samsung phone charger (the wall part) and it worked fine.

  • I've got the Lii-500 instead but great deal for those who don't care about the test functions. No excuse forking out for eneloops or even LADDAs and not picking this up to maximise their usage.

    • +1

I already have Lii-402, but was looking to get a Lii-500 as well.

Have you been happy with the additional test functions ?

How do you rate this unit, or would you buy something else if you were looking again ?

      • I have Lii-500, VC4 and Lii-402 and rate them in that order. Lii-500 test function is brilliant. I've got a Miboxer C8 on the way and will then offload VC4 as surplus to requirements and put Lii-402 away for emergencies.

  • +3

Turns out this can be used as a power bank utilising batteries for USB charging. That's a handy feature; however the review states it only uses one out of the four cells at any time. Still, that's brilliant in a pinch!

  • +2

Thanks! It's cheaper to pay in USD, as even with PayPal conversion it's $9.52 that way. If you have a fee free card, it costs $9.16 with mastercard. Might be worth putting to USD to AUD price in the title instead of the straight up AUD price.

  • thank you

  • Thank you OP, I've been looking for a smart charger for a while now :)

  • Thanks OP just purchased one for $9.87 AUD delivered

  • Thanks! Now to find cheap but good CR123a batteries for my security cameras

  • +1

When charging Eneloops/LADDA is it best to use the lowest ampage, so 500mAh?

    • +1

Think there’s some kind of rule of thumb…maybe charge at 0.5x the capacity? Using a rate that’s too low may not trigger the charger to stop when full.
I charge my laddas at 500mah

    • yes, use low current, helps keep the internal temperature down,

      • But not too low as blonky said above - any less than 500mAh and the termination gets unreliable. Around 700mAh to 1Ah is the best rage for reliable termination without overcooking for 2000mah batteries

  • +1

Just for those who need more than one, you can buy two per account but in separate orders. Nice work OP!

  • Awesome. Thanks. Picked on up, now i need to find some batteries for my Thorfire torch impulse buy.

  • Will this charger work with these type of batteries from 7 Day Shop (I have a stack I brought from the UK)

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/7dayshop-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable-B…

    • +1

They appear to be a standard low discharge NiMH in AA size, so yes.

    • +1

Yes, those are NiMH according to the amazon page and this charger can charge NiMH

      • +1

        Thanks guys ordered 👍

  • How to apply the coupon code?

  • I am logged in and the next step is "Place your order" and nowhere space for the coupon code.

    • +1

One step back, at the 'view my bag/checkout' you will be able to enter the promotion code, see here

  • Thank you!

  • Been meaning to buy a cheapish charger for my small stash of Eneloop AA batteries. Grabbed one thanks, but didn't see the post about paying in USD for cheaper until after I paid :(

  • This is a great charger, can even charge eneloops, but won't go to the max of 2000 mA unless you're using just one slot. It doesn't overcharge batteries either.

  • Currently using a Panasonic BQ-CC17. Does it do anything better?

    • If you don't have other size battery like 18650 pointless to get another one.

  • Funky name, but I'm in for 1. So, gotta wait a few weeks before it arrives? My old charger has one slot malfunctioning so it's a pain to do a max of 3 at a time! Thanks OP

  • Great deal thanks OP!

  • cool. thanks op. just spent $$

  • Awesome deal, thanks adr8!

  • with good review, bought this over binglee panasonic smart charger

  • Thanks OP… ordered one

  • +3

It's strange that this charger only got 11 votes when it was posted in April.
Maybe it's because of all the Thorfire 18650 torch deals that have been posted lately.

    • +3

I too am surprised it got so many votes compared to the last few times it was posted, although it did get 68 votes in March making it somewhat popular.

The Lii-202 has always been popular, over 100 votes in this deal and this one. but hasn't been discounted since.

With all the torch and Eneloop deals posted recently I thought it worthwhile to post a deal on a battery charger, but didn't expect it to be this popular. Having said all that, I always knew it was a good deal as your getting a good smart charger for under $10.

      • +4

I bought the Lii-202 when TA posted it and it works great on my 18650's, so I have bought this one for my old man as I got him a ThorFire C8s for father's day. Thanks for posting adr8.

    • +1

Yep, I didn't need ANY 18650 'anything' back in April… but since then I have multiple torches and 18650s all over the place!

  • Currently using the LADDA ikea charger for my LADDA and eneloops. Is it still worth to get this one?

    • Do you have batteries with other chemistry (i.e. lithium) or sizes?

      • Nup, just AAA and AA eneloops and LADDA batteries.

  • Thanks OP. Bought on community recommendation.

  • +1

Don't forget to get yourself a realistic shits poop.

  • How come I can't untick shipping insurance?

    • Not sure, just checked and I could untick shipping insurance at the checkout page.

  • +3

Aldi have got the 20V Li-Ion Drill and Impact Driver Kit on sale 25 August, so hopefully they will have the battery packs for sale separately. Then you can do the 18650 battery hack.

    • +3

You get more mileage out of that than I do WN! Nice work :)

BTW, for anyone interested… those Samsung cells I extracted from the ALDI Tool Packs tested really well too. Here's a pic of their capacity and their internal resistance after a few test cycles. I tested the remaining six the same way and as you can see they all passed the capacity test with flying colours as they all exceed their advertised 2000mAh plus the internal resistance is the lowest I've seen… but I've only had my Zanflare C4 Charger/Analyser for a week so haven't gone through all my other loose cells yet.

    • +1

After some research found that these are high current/drain batteries and not very good for torches.

      • +2

Well yes but I wouldn't say 'not very good' for torches. Yes, there are other cells that are lower current/drain but higher capacity so allow longer run times which would obviously be ideal for a torch however these Samsungs still work perfectly well, wont damage anything and at only $4 each are excellent bang for buck and good all-rounders handy to keep fully charged & ready to go.

        • +1

Poor choice of words by me. They are good quality batteries but made redundant by a better model for close to the same price. I meant for low current torches ad there are obviously torches with with high drain requirements.

Let me rephrase to not cost effective for the price, over time. Smaller capacity means more charging more frequently. More charges means shorter potential lifespan means the sooner you need to replace.

https://m.ebay.com/itm/4PCS-Original-Samsung-30Q-18650-Li-Io… $6 more gets you 25%? more potential capacity.

  • +1

Damn, paid double that 2 weeks ago. Works well, except the "Power Bank" feature which doesn't work at all.

  • Had anyone's order shipped?

    • The status of my order is still "processing" since Aug 20.

    • The deal was posted on another bargain website before I posted, so I'm guessing they've had a lot of orders to process. Link to the deal on pepper

    • no. ordering from dresslily - what a mistake!

      • If DL is so bad, why didn't you neg to tell people about the sketchy store?

      • What makes you say that? I have made about 20 orders without an issue.

  • Seven days since the purchase date and it's still saying 'processing'. Anyone else dealt with this seller, and do they always take this long to process orders? What on earth!

    • Normally they don't take this long to process orders, but I just checked the product listing and it states processing time of 7-15 business days for the Lii-402 see here

As an example I ordered this and this yesterday and it has already shipped. Coupons if any one is interested QCXZY04 & JNDLNL43.
