UPDATE: Many users are reporting cancelled orders due to a pricing error

Amazon have now started emailing to advise of the cancellation and are giving $30 vouchers per order. You can check your coupons here. For the record my order of 3 was cancelled and I received the $30 gift voucher too. The drives would have been great but I'm also pretty happy with this compensation. Congratulations to anyone who gets their order delivered.

Insane price for the 10TB WD My Book external hard drive. Limit to 3 per customer, and remember to use cashback. I grabbed 3 for $389.52 + Free Delivery with Prime.

Features

Auto backup with included WD Backup software and Time Machine compatibility
Password protection with hardware encryption
Trusted storage built with WD reliability
USB 3.0 port; USB 2.0 compatible
3-year manufacturer's limited warranty

Note on prices above $400

Some people are seeing prices over $400 and the item being listed by a different seller. This could be due to a variety of reasons such as cookies, account preferences or perhaps they are not logged in. You can append ?smid=A4XRJ8S0WXSO0 to the URL or by using the "Other Sellers on Amazon" widget to choose Amazon US as the seller.

  • Thanks OP, got 3

  • What voucher is everyone talking about?

    • +2

They’ll almost certainly cancel the order for anyone that buys this. But normally they give out a consolation voucher

      • Aah I see.

Well I hope they honor it.

      • Do you have a link to the last one please?

    • +1

Nope. Go through this link, or manually select the seller as Amazon US. :)

  • Good to see it's expired. I really don't need one of these despite its uses!

    • +7

      Yes you do

      • -8

My servers all run off SSDs and I'd need 6 if I was to fill the NAS.

        • +7

          Excuses

          • -3

            @spackbace: Buy me 5 and I'll buy 1.

            • +15

@Clear: Sure but my money is just coming from an inheritance overseas. Transfer me $9,830 for the customs fee and I'll be able to buy those for you

              • -2

@spackbace: Wow look at how salty those people are with the downvotes! Must be still upset from the election.

                • @Clear: Or an ignoramus ¯_(ツ)_/¯

                  • @jgdec: There are no stupid people on OzBargain.

              • +1

@spackbace: I ordered 5. You can mail me the inheritance and the plus one ;)

    • Nope. Go through this link, or manually select the seller as Amazon US. :)

  • ordered 3 thanks!

  • Why not. Got two.

  • Managed to get in about 30 seconds before the price went back up! Anyone got an example of when Amazon had a price error prior and gave a voucher?

  • Definitely a pricing error.
If you look on the U.S site it says $79.99 $299.99 (USD)
But when you click on it from the search page it changes to $234.95 $299.99 (USD)

Enjoy your coupons though I guess.

  • It's coming up as $401 for me. Did I miss it by mere minutes??

    • you missed it by about 4 or 5 minutes

    • +2

choose from other sellers: amazon us

    • Nope. Go through this link, or manually select the seller as Amazon US. :)

  • +2

    Still $129.84 for me

  • +1

Okay, so this is really weird. Comes up as $129.84 at this link, but if you remove the "?smid=A4XRJ8S0WXSO0" part at the end, or access it through this link, it comes up as $401.71.

So not too sure what's going on.

    • Seller/Merchant ID?

      • Yup, looks like it. If you select the seller manually to be Amazon US or go through this link it'll be $129, other sellers are obviously the full $400.

  • Do I really need another drive?

  • Got one, thanks OP. Still showing $129.84 for me too

  • it's showing up as $401.17 but at the bottom of the product description, click on "5 new from $129.84" and purchase from there.

  • Looks like error fixed!!

    • +2

Nope. Go through this link, or manually select the seller as Amazon US. :)

      • Man… you guys are good!!

  • +2

Even at $130, with the frequency in which reviews are posted about the drive failing, I think i give it a miss.

    • +2

      use it for backup only.
If it's only spinning during a daily or weekly backup then failure shouldn't be as much of a concern.
And if it does die within the warranty period then your data is safe on your primary storage while you sort that out with WD.

  • Is that $129 Aud or USD ?

    • Was AUD for me few mins ago

      • Thanks

    • AUD mate

  • +1

    Nah, still 10TB $129.84

  • +1

Its Still 10TB $129.84 for me too.

  • +1

For anyone confused, it's only $129 if you purchase from Amazon US, not other sellers. So either manually select Amazon US or go through this link.

  • Ordered 2, hopefully shucking good

    • +1

Have you shucked before? Could you or anyone else explain how it works to me or link a video please? Thanks :)

  • +1

    Damn the limit of three.

  • +5

These will go nicely with my Pack of 20 Sandisk SD cards.

  • +3

To those stating that this is a pricing error and will be cancelled - no shit.

It will 99.9% be cancelled - but that 0.01% man that gives me a thrill OOH YEAH.

  • Oh well, just ordered one. Not sure why I need so many storage for

  • Amazon reserves quantities. So if people have them sitting in their cart thats why there is none left. Once they remove them or their cart expires more will pop up.

    • -1

      Is this internet folklore?

Cart expires……I better check my cart 'used by date' then

  • Looks like it's back up to $401.71

    • No it's not, please check you have selected an Amazon seller….How much times this comes up is amazing….have you ever used Amazon before?

  • +3

I order 3 this time and 2 last time, each time I just get the max. This time I paid for Prime so I will be pi**ed if I'm left with no drives and a prime membership I only used for free postage.

These are still ~$80 USD to def a pricing error. Some forums have gone crazy so expect pricing error emails. 8TB is ~$105 USD which seems a little more reasonable.

If anyone is planning to remove the drives from the enclosure, make sure you remove the partition and recreate it and tape up SATA PIN 3. Yes..the partition reset is required or else your PC won't get part POST with this thing connected to SATA. WD most do something funky when partitioning so it don't work on UEFI motherboards.

  • I wish I needed this…

    • you definitely need it then :)

  • Over 3000 clicks and some are buying more than one drives.
    You guys are absolutely monster..
    But I like it :d
    Ordered 2. Thanks OP.

  • GOne up in price i think.. strange. it did on the us link then went back to 129 - Ordered 3 ^ ^ thanks!

  • Do they come with Aus wall plugs, or do we have to order them later?

    • +1

i got 2 AU plugs shipped free from WD AU when i picked up 2 from the last deal

      • +1

        Did these plugs come automatically?

        • +1

No.they ship with US plugs by default

        • WD will ship "Australian" wall adapters from Vietname but they are in fact wall adapters for China (upside down AUS). They are great if your power sockets are near the floor. The adapters and cables point up like sore thumbs.

How to order wall adapters, thanks to et tu brute

          • @alvian: We'll see how long that lasts when they get requests for a hundred or so.

            • @Clear: That's assuming Amazon will honour this deal. And some people will shuck their drives and some won't bother making the requests.

              • @alvian: Yeah very big assumptions. Even if they got 20 requests in a small time frame I'm sure they'd start to wonder.

      • wait what? how do you contact WD AU for this?

    • Unfortunately the US plug. Got one from previous deal

  • hah got one. now to wait for the inevitable cancellation :p

  • Ordered 2 thanks OP. I kind of assume this will be cancelled but here's hoping
