  • I have been told that the Dyson v7 is a “spot cleaner and doesn’t replace a normal vacuum cleaner and I would need at least a v10 to be able to replace my vacuum. Is this one a “spot cleaner” ok can I vacuum my entire house without breaking the motor?

    • +2

Depends how big is your house and how you vacuum. These stick vacuums are pretty heavy and I still find it tough to vacuum an entire normal sized house with one as an average strength 6ft guy. If you vacuum on a need basis as opposed to vacuuming the entire house every weekend, then maybe it'll suit you.

I doubt you'd fry the motor, but a regular AC powered vacuum will be cheaper, have more suction and be easier to use if you're vacuuming large areas. These stick vacuums trade that power and usability for convenience.

      • +1

I have 2 V6 in my house. Had them for 4 years or so now, had to replace batteries once (about $30). I haven't used an AC vacuum in all that time, and I have a ducted vacuum in my house. Has served me well and I have a large home and dog and cat.

I even use them to vacuum my garage floor and suck up all the dirt and mud.

Also unsure why the comment about them being heavy. They simply glide on the floors with minimum sweat. Even a small child would be able to operate them with minimum effort

        • +3

Where can you get the replacement batteries for so cheap?

        • +1

I'd also like to know where you got the cheap batteries please. I've been tempted to open up the battery section on my V6 and replace the existing cells with some high capacity 18650 cells like Samsung 30Q's or LG HG2's but for $30 (or even $50) I'll just do that instead

      • +17

        an average strength 6ft guy

Sorry to tell you, but if you find these heavy… then that, you are not

        • +2

Ehh, I can squat and bench a good enough weight. It's probably more that my carpet is ridiculously fluffy so vacuums can't glide over it and I have to pull up, not push down.

          • +1

@p1 ama: I think this is your problem. If you have long carpet they are hard to push and don't do a very good job. It is very difficult for me to push it on my shaggy rug, meanwhile on hardwood floors my 3 year old happily pushes it around.

        • it's to do with weight distribution not the total weight itself. Most people should be able to handle 2kg. But if it's your wrist that bears the burden, it won't be comfortable for long.

    • +6

I have been using v6 as main vaccum for like 4 years. They are not heavy.

    • +2

The power is fine provided you do regular vacuuming. For cleaning dirt ingrained into deep pile carpet in you'd still want a wall powered vacuum. The idea with stick cleaners is its convenience allows you to do spot cleans and also do more frequent light cleaning to maintain the carpet.

I have a Dyson DC59 Animal which is fantastic and still going strong. I have recently purchased this (the Dreame v9) with the carpet head cleaner. It is great for smooth floors ( I have a lafrge house with majority tiles) the carpet head is great on the carpet. I recently bought the Miele C1 which I use regulary on things that a stick vacuum just doesn't handle well. However the Dreame isn't a Dyson. When you get things caught in it they are so much harder to remove. The build qualty is OK but nothing like the Dyson. I am sorry I bought the Dreame and didn't wait till I had the dollars to buy the V11

    • Cheers, this is the sought of thing I needed to hear - that Dyson still has its advantages.

    • +1

i don't know why people think the Dreame is cheap. After buying the carpet head, it's equivalent to some of the lower model Dysons and you may as well get one of those since they are a more reputable stick manufacturer and have been making these for a lot longer, have easier warranty and a more proven track record.

Because likely Chinese cyber army are here. Check all threads about Chinese products vs international premium brands, like this or huawei vs Samsung phones, you'll see the land sliding prejudice from comments… Go figure.

Chinese cyber army are notorious, awful like cockroaches.

    • Curious, i have the Dreame and no issues yet with things getting stuck or whatever. Can you elaborate? Were you using it as your primary vaccum? Just curious what i might have happen. We have a Mi Robot as our main vaccum and its relatively easy to unblock/remove hair, we more use the Dreame for spot cleaning and random bits (got 2 dysons aswell, but rarely need to use). But that may be why we havent had any issues yet.

      • You must be part of the Chinese Cyber army (according @ITVeteran above)

  • +1

this or Dyson V7? and do I have to use the Carpet Head on carpet?

    • +1

This 100%. Yes get the carpet head.

    • Dyson. You will get better warranty from a company that's been in this country a lot longer than Xiaomi, and you'll be able to purchase it from a wider range of places, which means it's easier to return for warranty than with Shopro. With Shopro you can only send it back, and it will probably be at your own expense.

I'm not sure how long Dyson's warranty is, but I think it's more than 12 months?

  • Just purchased one - this should be good.

    • +3

Add Carpet Motorize head to the listing, please use coupon code DM151 to get extra 15% off.

      • Much appreciated! - just bought another carpet head.

  • Hi, I purchased this in the November Gearbite/eBay deal. Loving the Xiaomi Dreame V9, no longer have to drag around my clunky Dyson barrel. My friend would like to purchase a Dreame but I've never purchased from Shopro. All my Xiaomi products have come from Gearbite. If you've purchased from Shopro in the past, would you recommend? Cheers!
Edit: Please disregard - got my answer thanks GB.

    • For others confused
      Gearbite=shopro

      • Bought from both, was fine

  • -2

I rather pay $50 more for a Dyson

  • I keep flipping back and forth between this or the Roidmi F8. Anyone with experience of the two have an opinion?

    • +1

I haven't used either, but Roidmi's design looks like it's based on V10-11 while Dreame is based on V6-V8.

V10's design is superior. The cyclone does not spin perpendicular to the direction of the suction, which improves airflow and is much easier to empty. The lid will open from the direction of the intake, instead of below it, so emptying it is a cleaner process. You won't need to shake it to get all the dust out. You can just use the mechanical slider and point it away from you, deep into the bin.

As someone who has used both the V10 and older designs, the V10 design is much better.

If there's not a big price gap between the two models, get the Roidmi.

      • Thanks, you make some excellent points and the Roidmi does seem more comparable to the V10. I think I’ll go for that one.

  • Is it OK to use soft head on the timber floorboards?

    • +1

no problem. Soft head work really well at timber floorboards.

  • Bought this last time it was on sale. So good, really love it and yes, get the carpet head if you have carpet! Don't use the other head.

    • -5

Good to know it does a good head job……..

    • The normal head works OK on carpet on high mode, i do it. But if more than that definitely get the carpet head as probably perform just as well without high mode.

  • Bought this a couple of months ago. Using it with the soft head as we do not have any carpet in the house. We do have long hair though and that is a major problem. Hair gets stuck easily in the 2 little rubber rollers making them squeak and stops them turning properly. The rollers are difficult to remove without damaging the plastic and require frequent cleaning. Here's a post that describes the problem well. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7206374/redir there are also other members reporting the same problem so worth doing a search prior to purchasing.

On a positive note, the vacuum does make less noise compared to our dyson and the battery does last longer.

    • Send a video How to Cleaning little rubber rollers of Dreame Vacuum Rolling Brush to you, please check.

      • +1

Could you share it here for the rest of us? :)

        • +1

          Video Here

  • +10

That video comparison is very misleading.

I have the V8, and it definitely sound alike it's on eco mode, rather than the full suction mode.

The 'tests' are also designed for the dyson to fail, as the dyson has a hole for the attachments, resulting in there not being a vacuum created when you don't have an attachment on and are pressing it against a hard surface, even more so when you have it on eco mode.

Negging due to the deceptive comparison leading people to believe this compares to a dyson more than it does, creating an artifial increase in value due to the poor comparison. A comparison on how they actually clean would be valuable.

    • +4

Was tempted to buy this until I read this comment, think I'll hold out for a crazy Dyson deal

      • +1

        Happy to help.

Something that made me realise the video was inaccurate is that the Dyson has an automatic shutoff that activates when it has a blockage. If there wasn't an air leak and the vacuum was being pressed against a hard surface, it'd see that the same as a blockage and shut off automatically. I've noticed this when vacuum sealing bags, as once fully sealed they activate the shutoff.

A good vacuum should last you a long time, so imo it's worth the premium to get something that's reliable and doesn't need dodgy comparison videos to help it sell.

    • Thanks I too nearly pulled the trigger. My Dyson is dying. I need a replacement. I might wait until there’s a good price for a Dyson.

    • +3

I have a Dyson V8, had it for over 2 years now and while the suction is great, the plastic parts are cracking and falling apart. I have had to make some modifications for the bin due to it. Disappointed it hasn’t lasted, given that this device is my spot cleaner and my xiaomi gen 1 robot which is my daily cleaner is still going strong.

When I contacted Dyson support the unit warranty was just over 2 years but I had to pay over $250 in parts - no thanks… I made some mods to the unit it still does some spot cleaning but bits of plastic is cracking all over the unit.

In my opinion for such an expensive device it is of very poor build quality

      • I’ll add that my DC59 which was pre Dyson calling things V8 etc is still going strong after about 7 years, I’ll have had to do is buy a new filter because the dog ate mine off the bench after I washed it

        • i had a 59. The filter falls out when you lift it. It's not locked in place. Not even screwed in.

          • @lostn: That’s not normal mine does not. Neither does the replacement filter

            • @Ignig: maybe yours has been redesigned? Mine was the original. The purple filter on top just falls out.

      • Upvoted for visibility. I've had poor experiences with the longevity of Dyson products (the V6 Animal, specifically) and their warranty coverage as well. The battery died one week after the warranty period had ended, and Dyson quoted an exorbitant amount to replace it (no goodwill on their behalf, clearly). I purchased one with a larger capacity on eBay for a third of the price and it worked fine. Eventually, the attachments started failing, and now I'm looking to buy a new unit. Had Dyson stood behind their products instead of reaming customers on replacement parts, I wouldn't be looking at alternative brands. The V6 Animal didn't see heavy use either before failing, which is what concerned me the most.

        • Did you try ACL?

How long was the warranty btw? I don't know off the top of my head, but I'd expect my $1000 V10 to have more than 12 months which is all Xiaomi is offering.

    • +2

Fare enough. For those on the fence, i have one of these and imo its very good value and performs well. My only critique would be on high mode the battery does not last long.

For perspective, i have a Dyson handheld (pre v series), a big full on Dyson you drag with you, a Xiaomi Mi Robot (for approx 3 years now), and the Xiaomi Dreame V9 handheld (4 months). Our Dyson items rarely get used now and i would not buy another Dyson handheld over this (opinion may change it the Dreame dies, but until then..)

Edit: We use it as a secondary cleaner, smaller or quick jobs. Mi Robot i the main floor cleaner.

    • +2

Yep the video is fake news, when comparing the two we should only be interested in how they cleaning and battery life.

I have had my dyson V8 for over 2years, only two complaint would be the price and the one way flap get dirty and then dust will full out if the vacuum when held vertical.

I also have the Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner gen1 for over 2 years With a cleaning history of 34km m².

If I was in the market for a stick vacuum, I would be considering this unit over the Dyson, I am sure that Xiaomi have copied the Dyson parts that matter :)

    • Thankyou for pointing this out, posting rigged comparisons is not on.

    • Have you tried both units to prove your suspicion? Need to prove not suspect
Though to be fair to both units

  • What are differences between the Dreame V9, V9P (V9 Pro), V10 and Mi Handheld Vacuum Cleaner (https://www.mi.com/global/mi-handheld-vacuum-cleaner)?

Is it worth buying the newer model?

Rep, do you sell other newer models?

    • +1

I read that the V9 and V9 pro is just the look. The V10 is not worth it for the price. its a lot more expensive (i think by about 40%) and its suction is only 10% more.

  • The unit itself is not bad but gets very hot which is a problem

    • Does it automatically shut down itself due to getting very hot and you have to stop using it for a short while to let it cool down before being able to power it on again?

I mean can you use it 60mins (level 1) or 28mins (level 2) straight to vacumn the whole house?

      Thanks

      • It doesn't seem to stop. But it would be too hot to handle

        • Thanks. How long will it start getting very hot? Do you use it continually or without very minimal break?

          • @Bargain Fighter: Constantly using it for ten minutes on max. Using it on a hot day like Sydney yesterday I have no idea it will overheat and kill itself

            • @neonlight: Thanks. That doesn't sound good. What mode did you use? Level I, II, or MAX?

I reckon like most vacumn cleaner, this should also have auto shut down in case if overheating.

  • All the people in this thread that believe using Dyson V6/v7 will replace a main vacuum cleaner, have fun living in dust!

  • Any deal on just the carpet head?

    • Store rep said 15% off using the same code

  • Damn.. $40 cheaper after just a month :(

  • Thanks OP, was shopping around for the last couple of days for this vacuum

  • Here's a similar one from tobydeals at a few cents more (don't think there's a carpet head feature add on with them though).

Either company warranty will be a pain but Tobydeals ships fairly quick from my experience, under a week / 5 business days surprisingly with a recent order door to door (regular post selection) tracked via. toll over xmas for large more expensive items like this! Similar items I've purchased from gearbrite often takes closer to 2 weeks.

    • Buying from Shopro will garner a much better warranty process as you only need to send it to Melbourne and not overseas. Hard to trust that store after seeing the comments here and here also.

      • Fair call. With these things I always just assume no warranty worth the hassle so my point is purely from a postage point of view. I have to admit I haven't heard of many good stories with warranty from gearbrite/shoppro either that's why I don't think the warranty will be worth the paper it's on for any of these type of companies.

From my own personal experience only I can say the postage quicker than anything I've purchased from China/HK and their customer service was very good with some of the initial inquiries. I'm not at all associated with tobydeals just balancing out the negative feedback.

I'm sure the haters will hate no matter where you go.

    • really? i ordered a g-shock from tobydeals, took 3 weeks to ship it out

  • Took the plunge and will give it a go! How long does delivery usually take from these guys?

    • i purchased mine on Monday and it said its coming between Friday 03 - Tues 07 2020. so I guess about 1 week wait time.

  • I just pulled the trigger. I hope it will be worth the $307. Fingers crossed. Will post my review once I receive it.

  • i got the vacuum yesterday and tried it on our brand new carpets and it filled up the vac. Definitely worth it! (it was set to speed 2 not MAX so we can do the whole house in 1 charge, will do it on MAX next time.)

Remember to clean it every time after use. also I would not recommend to wash the filter paper part, I did it to my old vac and it made it look damp all the time and I don't think it worked as good as it could.

  • +2

Have had quite a disappointing after sales experience with Shopro so far. Ordered the Xiaomi Dreame which was promptly delivered but was DOA. There was no charge in the battery and the power plug and the cradle does not charge.

I called the number to ask for a replacement item and was referred to emailing Shopro. An email came back asking me to change and clean the filters to fix the problem to no avail. I've emailed and rang them multiple times since and have not gotten an answer as to what the replacement or refund process is. They keep saying they will reply to me shortly.

The item is DOA, it should not be so difficult to get the seller either to arrange the item to be shipped back for a replacement or a refund.

  • dm151 code is not working for me. Did the deal expire?

  • Just tried the code, did not work

  • Just wait for the next deal, gearbrite was doing these every week or two earlier in the year!

For existing owners not liking to hold the trigger in you can make a trigger lock yourself see

Anyone else interested in making an order? Needs to be in bulk for it to be cost effective.
