Been looking for TV like this. Maybe someone can comment how this compares to the $699 ALDI one for sale on Saturday? Warranty on the TCL is certainly 2 years longer.

Mod 12pm: Only a limited amount of stores have stock remaining. Delivery seems mostly unavailable.

I'm getting delivery not available and pick-up is limited. No stock near me.

    • GG Alexandria & Tempe (Sydney) have stock, but can't do delivery which is a letdown

  • +8

There is also a promotion "1 Year free Disney plus subscription" at Good Guys with any 65" + TVs which is applicable for this TV.

  • +4

How does this compare with the Samsung or Hisense QLEDs? It's been a while since I've looked at TVs it seems a bit a minefield!

    • We have the 55" model. I won't offer any direct comparison with those brands, but I will say the picture quality is outstanding for the price. The android back end can be a little slow to boot up at times, but once up it is smooth enough. I think it's horses for courses; it's not on the same level as an LG OLED for $4K, but for most situations this is a bloody good TV.

  • What does the Q stand for? Quality? or Quite cheaper than OLED.

    • +2

Stands for Quad Ultra HD, so 16K TV for under $900!

      Nice!

      • No I believe it's only a 4K UHD.

        From Google search:

QUHD TV is a high-end product category launched by TCL in 2016, equipped with top picture quality processing technologies such as Quantum Dot, slim local dimming and HDR, as well as the supreme entertainment technologies integrated with innovative industrial design, high-standard speakers and the TV+OS

        https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160105006855/en/TCL….

        • +4

It was a joke, bro :)

    • +1

Don't know what it stands for, but it is Samsungs competitor to OLED. Where OLED used organics and no backlighting, QLED uses multiple zones of leds to achieve their version of OLED. You get pretty good results and very high contrasts but not quite as good as OLED. There are benefits too though as some OLEDS are prone to burn in and OLED aren't as good for gaming and other content.

      • Oh its Quantum Dot? So it is a Samsung panel? Price seems pretty good for that size.

        • +2

Not exactly. Quantum Dot is sort of an umbrella term now for a technology which Samsung popularised (or invented, not sure) and now others like Hisense and TCL are employing a similar tech but using the same Quantum Dot label. So they do the same sort of thing but not necessarily to the same degree/quality and certainly not a Sammy panel.

QLED TV's are seen as inferior to OLED and by most measures it is (picture quality, contrast, viewing angles etc) but it's still dependent on the individual consumer need. If the TV is in a bright room and you're watching the TV during the day, a QLED which can project a much brighter picture than the brightest OLED might be a better option, as it was for me. Likewise a QLED that has full array local dimming, will get pretty good results in the dark as well.

        • +1

QLED is the technology used and does not mean that any Samsung part/panel is used, just that they are licensing the use of the technology (although it does not stop them from using Samsung parts).

EDIT: Slightly wrong, "QLED is a similarly small brand landscape. Samsung is part of a modest consortium of three manufacturers, called the QLED Alliance, that formed about two years ago.The others are Hisense and TCL, which are much less common in the U.S.

Samsung owns the U.S. trademark to the term QLED TV, so even if other manufacturers use quantum-dot technology, they either need to license it from Samsung (as do Hisense and TCL), or call it something else."

          • +4

@jaymzrsa: Its such a bad trademark practise. Its trying to confuse buyer into thinking they are getting an extremely cheap and (shitty) OLED. Scummy of samsung to do. Sony has had Triluminous for so long. Crappy brands like samsung are just copying. For the record they never invent anything. QLED is just their anti-consumer marketing and its worked better for them than Sony as people think its OLED.

    • -4

Q stands for junk, save your money and get an OLED, it's like day and night

      • +2

Unless you use it in a bright room than the LEDs can be superior to OLEDs

        • -1

OLED is way better tech than having an LED array backing panel.

      • Save your money……..by spending 4 times that on an OLED. Got it

        • Nah… just buy a 750 dollar LED TV each year for four years, instead of outlaying the initial amount of money at once for an OLED and be happy from the first purchase. OLED is far superior.

          • +1

@Damonator84: Because everyone has $3-4k to spend on a far superior TV

  • What is the different which one is better:
    This one, https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-65-inches-p8-uhd-android-…, Series P 65 inch P8M QUHD TV AI-IN
    or
the one listed, TCL 65" P8S Android QUHD LED TV $895.50 @ Good Guys

    • +1

      P8M , motion rate 100 hz
      P8S, 200 hz

      • Not Hz, manufacturer derived arbitrary units.

        • +1

Pretty sure TCL "motion rate" is double the actual Hz, so 200 = 100hz & 100 = 50hz

    • I agree they look the same - no wonder this is so confusing!

    • In my humble opinion the S is in a different league to the M. We returned an M after a week as we weren't impressed with the picture quality. The S is on a par with any set under $1K, and a lot above.

  • Anybody find stock in Victoria? I checked metro stores - all out of stock

    • No stock vic just rang

      • There's a clearance shop in Dandenong advertising these all over Facebook marketplace. If you're eager have a look there.

  • "This stock not available for pickup", even though the store shows stock.

  • -1

    How much for wall mount

    • Mounting spec: VESA Mount (mm): 600 x 200 (M6 screw size)

Not sure price there's so many out there. Even look on Gumtree/FB Marketplace for a cheap used one.

  • Managed to get 2 for $800 each

    • +1

      How?

      • I just asked for better price had 2 in stock so took both

        • Can I ask where you found stock in Victoria?

        • You asked over the phone? And they let you stack better price with coupon?

    • Could you please attach the receipt?

      • Uploaded down bottom

  • Android TV… So does that mean we will be able to install any app from Play Store?

    • No Android TV <> Play Store. Also, not all TVs support all Android TV apps, however most will support the more popular ones like Netflix, Plex, Prime etc.

    • Android Apps have a device compatibility requirement, so no.

  • TGG seems to be clearing out all the older model TCL.

It appears a significant price drop in the new model TCL is imminent

  • no stock no delivery no pickup :( VIC

    • I got 2 Mildura

  • Does it have WiFi? Can't seem to find info

    • seem to have found on a different site (TCL) 2.4ghz wifi built in

    • +1

My 2 year old TCL has both 2.4 and 5 ghz.

      • P8M only has 2.4ghz which sucks

        • In what way?

          • @1st-Amendment: Streaming using Kodi is noticibly slower to load compared to Kogan TV running same setup.

            • @TheAccountant: That has nothing to do with the frequency of the wireless signal.
Both frequencies support over 100Mbps, and streaming requires no more than 25Mbps max.

              • @1st-Amendment: I know that but most of the mobile devices in my house favour the 2.4ghz band so 5ghz is less congested and hence offers better bandwidth.

I'd switch them all but the ISP supplied router is spotty in the garage at the front of the house on 5ghz so that's a no go. I've left all the non-mobile devices on 5ghz except the TCL TV for obvious reasons.

  • +1

this is even more expensive than their offer from 2 months ago where you could get it for 800 from the commerical membership, i suggest you wait for a tcl c715 deal if ur in the market for a cheap decent tv

    • Watch The sheeple run.

    • +1

Not everyone has access to the commercial membership though. Although this TV seems pretty much out of stock.

    • +1

      Wasn't it $817?

      • Yes it was. I pulled trigger on this for $868.63 using 3% off gift cards via Macquarie Bank. Cashrewards has registered $24.42 which will make it $844.21 after cashback.

        • Are you able to do this instore or online only?

          • @clanton: I did it online. You need to be a Macquarie Bank customer to get 3% off - and that bit needs to be done via online banking. You might be able to get cashback in store if you register your Visa/MasterCard with Cashrewards.

            • @inherentchoice: I have my Visa registered with Cashrewards and the purchase was done in-store using it. How do I go about getting the cashback? I'm new to this

              • +1

@clanton: I don't know, I hope someone else can answer. But that makes me realise you can't go in store to get both cashback and pay with discounted gift cards.

    • How'd you get it down to 805?

      • I asked

        • Ask i shall! fingers crossed

    • sorry for noob question, but what can I do with this to get one at the same price?

    • would that screenshot be good enough for a price match it doesn't have much information?

  • Isn't this part of their $300 cashback too?

    • Answered my own question. Minimum 65C715.

      • 65C715 will only get $100 gift card back.

Digital E-Gift Card Value Participating Products
        $100.00 65C815, 65C715, 85P715, 75P715
        $200.00 65X10, 65X915, 75C815
        $300.00 75X10, 75X915, 100P715

  • I was thinking this, is it the 75" version of the 65?

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-75-inches-p715-4k-quhd-an…

    • I'm wondering if anyone has tried this model. Can't find much about it online.

      • I don't have any complaints about it. It comes with 2 remotes.

I found the android tv handy, and they recently updated the android tv in it. Now you are able to install Disney+ & Amazon prime apps to watch. I guess you could have always tried sideloading it.

  • Is TGG Concierge Service worth it at $56/year for 3 years?

  • Thanks OP. Been waiting for a sub $1k TV deal for 55 inch and this is above and beyond at 65 👌

    • +3

Is this better than say… That aldi 65 which I can also afford

      • I can't say for sure but I decided on this as it's a better known brand to me personally and great peace of mind with a 3 year warranty.

        • +1

Better brand, 100hz vs 60hz and 3 years warranty is the cherry on top.

  • +1

It is a great tv. have been using it since may. just tweak the picture settings and it produces great colors. may not be suitable for brighter rooms though.

    • What sort of tweaking would you recommend?

      • +4

        Picture preset - movie
        Brightness 80
        Contrast 100
        Black level 50
        Dynamic contrast off
        Black stretch off
        Dynamic backlight off
        Micro dimming off
        Color saturation 45
        Tint 50
        Color temp warm
        Sharpness 20
        Digital noise reduction off
        Noise reduction off
        Gradation clear off
        Judder reduction 3

        • +1

Thanks mate I've screenshot your list to make the changes tomorrow when it arrives 👍

          • @dsiritz: No worries. Also there is a discussion on whirlpool with latest firmwares. V351 is the most recent ones.

  • Is there a difference between the C715 2020 model and this? Specs on the website comparison seem to point to an almost identical spec list? i.e. is the C715 woth an additional $200 besides being a newer release?

    • C715 is a QLED so it has local dimming, and its slightly brighter.

      • Worth an additional $200? A bit of a TV noob. Coming from a 5yr old 42" 1080p Sammie so even the 65P8S is a massive upgrade.

        • Mmmm I'd say probably not, but this is expired now and 65P8S is basically sold out nation wide. The C715 is the 2020 replacement.

          • @clanton: Heheh it was a case of buy first ask questions later. Especially since I could cancel the order according to the FAQ. Looked at a number of other tvs but honestly, im sure in a normal home setting without all the other fancier tvs id be none the wiser. YouTube reviews seem to rate it pretty well.

  • Just bought one using the code DEALS10 online, however when claiming the Disney+ bonus offer it says cannot qualify for the offer. Would using the discount code nullify the bonus offer?

"Promotion is only open to Australian permanent residents aged 18 years or over who make a purchase of
the Applicable Model for personal use only, at full ticket price and which is not later refunded for change
of mind. Bonus Offer is only available to new Disney+ subscribers".

    Anyone tried?

  • 10% off works for the 55" so getting that for $700 after using the $20 concierge as well

  • Rang Ballarat the guy said they don't have any stock and it is the old model apparently.

  • How does this compare to the LG 65" UN7300 4K? Worth the extra price?

    $1255.50 vs $895.50

Always been fearful of lesser known brands…

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-65-inches-un7300-4k-uhd-sm…

No pick-up options for the TCL within 500kms from me….

  • I have a Hisense R7 55 4K, should I sell and buy this one in stead?

  • Have a TCL 55P6US or something like that, runs Android TV, it crashes on a daily basis and FreeView+ doesn't work half the time. I've tried every trick in the book, but just can't get the TV's shit software to not crash. I wouldn't buy a TCL Android TV again but that's just me, I'd much rather have a giant monitor with a Vodafone box attached.

    • It should have a three year warranty. Can you make a warranty claim?
