Just make sure these masks have a metal piece to bend around the top for the nose and if so that its encased in a rubber or plastic seal as i had one with bare metal after several washes it broke. Possibly due to poor metal used and rusting over time.

    • according to reviews on the product page, they do :)

        Can confirm

        • thanks - deal updated :)

I still don’t get it why people don’t buy an known effective medical mask than all the crappy non’ s out there that the government is happy for people to buy as it leaves plenty of supplies for essential workers .

BTW In March the government didn’t want people to buy them for the reason above .

    • I agree, people should be making their own informed decisions especially for their own health The government misinformed the public about masks stating that it does not help stop the spread, (no scientific evidence) and that people more at risk catching it due to not being able to use it correctly.

Let's wear a scarf that has no properties at all, I'm sure that's useful

        Actually it is.

Any covering can reduce the symptoms should you come into contact with the virus.

        https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/california/stor…

It also covers your face and prevents you touching it, which is an easy transmission method.
Not touching your face is one of the biggest things you can do to ship me stop yourself catching a virus/cold etc.

These are some of the reasons the government says you can use a scarf

    • Because a medical grade mask is not necessary as the difference may simply be that it is licenced/registered as a medical grade mask.

    • Because got to keep supply for medical professionals

Also masks are about people with Ronda not passing it to others they don't offer that much protection

I am a cotton on employee so I am happy to help people with any questions or queries they may have about this. Also for those wondering the mask will be available in store from Mid August onwards.

    • +1

How many layers is it, it isn't clearly stated in the description.

      Cheers

      • +3

        @mafroew

It's 3 layers: Outer Layer is 100% Cotton; Middle Layer is Polypropylene/Polyethylene; Inner Layer is 42% Viscose, 30% Polyester, 12% Linen, 11% Lyocell & 5% Cotton.

        • Are you able to provide the source of 3 layers you mentioned?
Seems like I can't find it on their website

          • +2

            @laruku: It's written on the packaging/label.

Hey, why doesnt the new email signup free delivery voucher work?

      • doesnt work for me either, says it's invalid?

    • When are we likely to get delivery?

      • +1

Delivery is taking longer than usual and as consequence it may take up to 2 weeks for most of Australia however those in Brisbane and Melbourne usually get items quicker as the two distribution centres are located there.

        • My click and collect order has arrived in the usual time (to Sydney). 👍🏻

    • Sure. Why $3 for click and collect?

      • +6

The click and collect price ($3 for order under $35 or free for over $35) is due to how this is not a normal click and collect system where an employee in store pick the items. The cotton on click and collect system refers to the items being picked at the distribution centre and then packed in with stock shipments to which ever store you decide to pick up from so the $3 is to justify the shipping cost. It should be noted however that click and collect is no longer available in WA as it took too long to deliver.

        • That suggests I can choose any store to click and collect from, but I can't. It only shows the same stores that also show if I click "find in store".

          • @R-Man: Unfortunately all stores aren’t able to provide click and collect services as they don’t receive deliveries frequently enough so the delivery for a click and collect would take too long.

    • Very kind of you to answer our questions. Thanks Josh.

My question is that I across the road from a Cotton On store, but the nearest click and collect store is 32k’s away. Could that be because my local has no stock?

      • +1

Unfortunately all stores aren’t able to provide click and collect services as they don’t receive deliveries frequently enough so the delivery for a click and collect would take too long. This will explain why you are unable to collect from your local store. I’m sorry that you can’t collect from just across the road from your home.

    • thanks for offering to help and answering queries :)

do you know how many times the mask can be washed before it becomes ineffective?

  • -5

    Is this fake?

    • +1

      Fake what?

    • -1

      Fake virus yes

      • I only ever accept scientific advice about critical medical equipment from Stinge Master.

  • Depends on material and number of layers, doubt it has 90% filtration.

This website shows the tested result using different materials for mask -

    https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-diy-coronavirus-hom…

surprisingly kitchen towels has more filtration than a cloth mask. May be it is worth while to buy a good quality kitchen towel to make double layer mask for kids. You need a material good enough to filter out virus.

  • +2

They can get stuffed with a $3 click and collect, what a scam these businesses operate, not to mention $3 is what it would cost to post an item of these dimensions.

    • +3

What about the cost of employing staff to select, set aside and give to you the item.

The cost to post this might be $2.20, but what about the envelope, staff time to select pack and process, thermal address label printer, address sticker etc

It will actually cost them more than $3 to post this unless all the other things are somehow free

Plus that's not how their click and collect works
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9048832/redir

      • -1

In my post I did say about $3, so give or take. I'm pretty sure their cost on the $9.99 nowhere near that. As well as all the items needed to post being a tax write off and given the heavily reduced traffic in store the staff may have some time to pick all the click and collect order, lots of retailers offer a click and collect at no charge, my opinion is their model sux and I'm not paying extra for someone to grab it off the shelf so I can go in and pick it up.

  • +1

So that makes the price $12.99 for click and collect.

    • only if you buy just one - for two, it would be $22.98 or $11.49 each - less with cashback :)

  • if the government says scarfs are good enough, its more about a message in the public people wearing masks and stopping the coughs and sneezes ….. some people thought they might have corona, get a test, and then party …… dont thnik those people care about n95, or stuff just wear something so you can go shopping ….. there is no spec for what mask to wear or a "gov approved" sticker ……. "or scarf with knit one perl 2 density to stop viruses" …..

  • Ordered one. I've got a handmade one from a local family business but it doesn't have the bendy metal thing on your nose so fogs up my sunnies. Don't particularly care about the extra filtration but it's an added bonus for the price.

    • these ones are also quite comfortable compared to others I've tried (:

  • +3

$3 c&c, $7 delivery they are just taking advantage of the situation, if bonds can do $8 delivered then no excuse for cotton on, likely get these made for less then $1 each

    • +4

      missing from the Bonds one:

      • PM2.5 KN90 filter
      • One layer (Bonds 2 vs Cotton On 3)
      • Adjustable elastic straps
      • Malleable metal nosepiece

      Bonds 3.3/5 (36 reviews/ratings) - 16 out of 32 (50%) reviewers recommend
      vs
      Cotton On 4.9/5 (41)

      • +2

not comparing which are better, it's simple it was $10 before the lockdown the $3 c&c is just taking advantage

        • sorry - are you saying that when they were first released early this month, that there was no charge for click and collect?

          • @tonester: good question not sure, never heard of a company charging for c&c, I see in some comments above kmart does, think its pretty pathetic, if the service is to much hassle then simply don't offer it or only offer it on a minimum order, 30% on a $10 item is a joke, go past any cotton on store & the staff are doing nothing as nobody is at shopping centres (in melb), least these orders would give them something to do

      • Glanced at the Bonds ones earlier and it was saying something about 20 uses. Ignored it after that…

      • Send a box of 1000 to each store, staff can sought the c&c, problem solved, this a is major chain should have a better system in place, just find it weird, is what it is..

  • -1

Pay for click and collect??? lolololololololololololololol

    • -1

They aren't the only store that does this.

Click and collect still costs money to offer

      • How much does it cost to offer vs. just having staff waiting around hoping someone will come in to buy, make chit chat with the customer, ring up the sale, etc., etc.?

I'm aware they're not the only ones that do it. I dodge those outlets as well. I just don't understand how C&C for an outfit like Cotton On could possibly cost more per sale than customer walk ins. It wouldn't surprise me if these are all kept in a box (or similar) right next to the counter in any event.

        • If the store is busy with customers they might need to employ someone else just to do click and collect so it is ready when you come in. They need a space with shelving to store the orders etc.

There are overheads incurred with click and collect that aren't there for normal purchases.

But that's not even how their click and collect works
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9048832/redir

          • @spaceflight: And there are overheads incurred for normal purchases that aren't there for click and collect.

I still don't understand how it's more expensive on a net-net basis for this business type.

            • @Seraphin7:

And there are overheads incurred for normal purchases that aren't there for click and collect.

              Such as?

              • -1

@spaceflight: Staff "doing nothing" in between serving customers.
Needing to roster on more staff than are actually needed to cater for short term peaks in demand (e.g. lunch hour).
Needing floor space to display stock, rather than just a store room.
Extra lighting for your showroom, vs. your stock room.
More risk of "stock shrinkage" in a space open to the public.
The need to carry cash and the attendant costs and risks that brings.
Greater labour costs per dollar of stock sold.
                In store merchandising costs.
In store display racks and similar paraphernalia.

                • +1

@Seraphin7: All of those things are overheads of running a store, not click and collect.

Click and collect is an addition to a retail store, you can't exactly have click and collect without a retail store.

  • Filters pm2.5 …. Only the first time you wear it. If u wash it, not even close

  • If you actually look at the site. You pick your store and it tells you an estimated date the item will be available for pick up.

It looks like you order click and collect, the items are posted to that store and then you pick it up

This is the way target, Kmart and others do it. Their stock are all over the place and you order it delivered to the store. So there's a charge for this.

    • -1

Their stock are all over the place and you order it delivered to the store. So there's a charge for this. So you pay for this inefficiency in their operating model.

      • They could have made it delivery only like other stores have but they're offering a more eco friendly pick up option for multiples of people rather than only offering postage to their house, using less delivery resources.

Seems efficient from a business point of view to me.

        • +2

More efficient? The friendly pick up option you have to pay for which encourages more people to get out of the house during lockdown, nailed it.

          • @eggaz: I guess no one does groceries anymore or needs anything else from a shopping centre.

        • Yes, eco-friendly is 100 people each going to a store to pick up, rather than 1 delivery person going to each of their places to deliver.

  • +1

    Made in China!

  • +8

Not going to buy anything from China if I can help it. Everything’s made in China now but got to start supporting Aussie made at some point.

    • +2

Technically you are supporting aussies as Cotton On is a Australian Owned Company.
I am curious if there are any Aussie companies out there which manufacture reusable masks which is 100% using Australian Cotton or materials, most of them may be made in Australian sweat shops but using Chinese Materials which means you are still supporting the Chinese.

  • +2

Story of the 3M N95 mask if anyone is interested…
    https://www.fastcompany.com/90479846/the-untold-origin-story…

  • +1

Or you could make one using the Victorian Government design - who would have thought that the Woolies green shopping bag could help with Covid-19?

    https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/20…

Now where is that Oz-bargain deal on sewing machines?

  • Every mask is reusable if you're brave enough.

    • Not defending Cotton On or anything.
But there isn't many companies out there which is making masks with materials made in Australia, so either way although the mask may be Made in Australia, but can you be 100% sure that some of that profit isn't going back to China via the purchasing of those materials?

    • Read the website. You can pre-order. they are NOT at OzBargain price.

    • +1

Those have exhalation valves, if you plan on wearing them to work check that they comply with the OHS/SOP for masks at your particular company.

  • +1

Support local manufacturing for goodness sake.

  • Seems like an okay deal to me. $3 for click and collect isn’t ideal, but there are reasons for it. If you buy 4 masks you qualify for free C&C.

  • So are these suitable for Covid-19?

Seems you need 95 rated masks for proper protection?

  • +1

"These masks are tested to a KN90 standard and filter at least 90% of airborne particles down to pm2.5."

    Tested by who?

    • Exactly my thoughts.

Dozens of countries had to return hundreds of thousands of masks back to China as they were not meeting the advertised standards.

The common folk have little to no resources at their disposal to verify these BS certification standards claims made by these Chinese mask manufacturers.

I'm ordering a few washable masks from one or more of the local small business who are making masks. It will cost more, but I am happy to pay in this instance.

  • Fwiw, I've got this one. Fits well. Material feels good and not too cheap. Nose piece can be adjusted (huge plus) as can the ear loops. Does the job.

Sooner or later we'll get the Macpac Jacket of masks, until then we'll have to deal with imperfect masks.

    • thanks - Macpac aren't the best jackets, but two of the top masks are perhaps Vogmask VMC Filtering Face Mask and Respilon R-shield Light Antiviral Neck Gaiter

      • +2

Vogmask or any other masks on the market which has a valve on it are dubbed the selfish mask. Still spreads the virus which endangers people around you but keeps you safe as the valve shuts when you breathe in.

I know some countries have banned Valve masks as it doesn't stop the release of the virus.

        • Some Victorian workplaces have also “banned” valved masks that are being worn as part of the government facial covering directions.
Obviously valved respirators can still be worn for dealing with hazardous substances.
On the plus side the gov here hasn’t banned them so they still prevent the $200 fine.

        • yes, hence why i specified the non-valved VMC, as opposed to the valved VMCV - The Allergy Shop have only the latter on their website, but should hopefully be also receiving stock of the former soon

        • sorry, forgot to mention earlier that masks with filtered valves can be fine, such as those having a filter pocket

  • -2

Yeah $7 postage for a $10 item (I don't need multiple masks) is a bit steep, and click and collect is not possible for me.
