Review on Rtings suggests a lot of improvement with good calibration. Even just following their settings might be be a good start? (they have an ICC profile as part of the review)

Got one in the last sale, can vouch, its a great monitor…. now to get a 2nd one… or hold out for a good deal on the DGF???

    • I'm wondering this also - go with this as a good value option, or hold out for the DGF?

    • DGF will be on sale on Black Friday @ it's cheapest price ever. Tough choice.

      • Does that mean I should cancel my current order and reorder for the DGF?!

        • That depends how long you want to wait, shipping ETA yet to be confirmed on DGF.

        • Hey, did you try cancelling and have any success? I've heard Dell can be very painful about cancelling orders that are currently 'in production' (even though it obviously doesn't take 6 weeks to produce a monitor). Gonna cancel my current DGF order tomorrow as well and interested to see how difficult they're gonna be.

          • +1

@alwaystooslow: Let me know how you go - I missed out on this deal posted here so now it's a toss up whether or not I'll land the black friday deal…

            • @Garbotoxin: Well I couldn't even reach their support department so not a strong start. They said they were too busy to take my call and would call me back in a few days…

I knew it would be painful, but this is another level.

And this was after I was transferred 3 times.

            • @Garbotoxin: In case you still cared, Dell did cancel my order without hassle today.

              • @alwaystooslow: Thanks for the update! How hard was it to get to someone to talk to or did they actually call you back?

                • @Garbotoxin: They called me back the next day to say that they were cancelling my order. Considering how most call centres just never call you back I'm pleasantly surprised, especially after my first call to them.

      • How many units will be on offer?

        • Possibly around 1000

      • Hi LiMaaa,

I've added it to my eBay watch list - is that where I should be looking? Or will it be on the Dell site?

I love my 2713H and I think it would make a great gaming upgrade to the venerable 2013 model I currently have :-)

      • Can you say if the DGF will be on eBay or through Dell's website?

        • It will be via ebay.

      • +2

DGF will be on sale on Black Friday @ it's cheapest price ever.

oh wow man … who would have thought Black Friday sale in southern hemisphere ain't as bad as people say.

          • +2

            @LiMaaa: I don't think you'll have a hard time re-homing the 1,500 units ;)

    • same.. thinking just going to wait for a cheap 34''
i need a second monitor, but not sureeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • +7

Do you know if there will be a deal on the S2721DS

    • +1

I also would like to know if there may be a deal on the adjustable version of this monitor:) - S2721DS

    • +2

      Short answer, no, sorry.

      • +2

Thats OK, thanks for all the great deals :)

  • +1

Paid $239.20 last time and very happy. Now its even more cheaper :(

    • Same here.

  • +3

How does this monitor look when physically compared to the S2721DGF? I’m contemplating buying one of these to use side by side with the gaming monitor and only want to if they’re physically identical.

    • Given the upvotes I’ve received, it seems there are others wanting to do the same. From what I have gathered since posting rtings.com will give you the best in-depth comparison. Hit the link to the rtings.com review from the OP, then scroll right down the bottom where it compares the monitor to the DGF. You can then choose to display a side-by-side comparison. In brief, the 2721D looks like is has slightly smaller bezels but otherwise I think it’s identical. At this price, I think it’s a no brainer.

      • +1

Happy to take more photos or answer questions

    • +9

I've got them side by side. There's very little difference. This one has the buttons on the bottom edge, DGF has them on the back. As such the bottom edge of this has a slightly different angle. So from the front, you probably wouldn't notice they were different unless you were looking for it.

From the back its a different story. This monitor is white. DGF is black.

I tried to take some photos and upload to imgur. Not sure if this will work

(Left) S2721D Vs S2721DGF (Right) side by side https://imgur.com/a/vKpWlu5

    • +1

I have both, I'm quite pedantic about them looking alike to suit, the top and side bezels and size are identical. The only difference is the bottom bezel, same color, the s2721d has a very slight curve to it, but honestly, it's barely noticeable. They suit really well together and are a great combo for me.

P.S. The backs are different (white on the s2721d) this isn't an issue for me though as my desk is against a wall.

  • Can anyone tell us what you give up by getting this over the DGF? I can obviously tell the refresh rate (75vs165), but am curious what are any other technical (inferior colour range?) and utility (no USB, no headphone jack, worse stand?) differences there are.

The price difference is big so I'm guessing a lot, just trying to make a value judgement as I don't game a ton, but would like it to look nice when I do, and am will to pay extra for things like headphone out and USB hub functionality (but maybe not worth 2x price?).

    • +4

      Comparison using Display Specifications

      • Thank you, this is great

      • Thanks for sharing, would prefer hdr imo

        • +1

It's only HDR400 on the DGF, which everyone seems to say is fake HDR, and monitors tend to look better with it off.

You need proper local dimming for LED HDR, with a lot of zones, so the DGF is not going to get you there sadly

    • +2

It still has a 3.5mm output (in a more inconvenient place), but no USB hub like on the DGF.

Same port selection, but it's HDMI 1.4 vs 2.0 and you don't get a DP cable as well, just HDMI.

Stand is not height or swivel adjustable or rotatable, just tilt.

No HDR certification too. It's has a 8bit panel capable of reproducing 16.7million colours vs the 10bit (8bit + dithering) one on the DGF capable of reproducing 1.07billion colours, with lower brightness and lower colour accuracy (76.4% Adobe RGB for the D vs 84.4% Adobe RGB for the DGF in Rting's testing).

      • Thank you mate. Really tough to decide; want DGF but this is so much cheaper! That inferior stand might be the deal breaker, maybe the 2721DS will go on sale too…

        • +3

Before you commit to DGF, please be aware that some people have reported issues with 60Hz on DGF, the second last row of pixel can look greyish (some people refer to them as transparent colour). The problem goes away on 120Hz so this is a firmware issue (but don't count on Dell releasing a firmware to existing owners to fix this any time soon).

Also, please make sure your PC can do 120Hz or higher before buying DGF. If you have rather old Intel integrated graphics, don't be surprise you cannot get over 60Hz, especially through HDMI.

DGF's quality of life improvement: USB 3 hub, height adjustable stand are handy though. While this monitor has VESA mount, right now, there is no cheap / cost effective VESA stand at the moment.

          • @netsurfer: AOC do some pretty good VESA stands that aren't very expensive

            • +2

@twister292: They are getting more expensive now. $45 isn't exactly cheap for monitor stand. That's 20% extra cost on top of the monitor.

  • +3

Will Dell offer a 4k 32inch? 4k 27 inch is no good for scaling.

    • The S3221Q is trash. Returned it.

    • +1

      I have the same question.

@KloNe: can I ask why the S3221Q is trash?

    • The 4k that will be on deal are ideal for console gamers. A lot of people are happy with 27" 4k but personally I think the sweet spot is 27" 2k.

  • I've been looking for a second monitor to pair with my U2719DC (ideally wanted the same but these are $600+). Anyone have any idea how this would pair with the U2719DC?

  • Any ideas on the 4k monitor prices that are coming?

    • Can't say as of yet but cheaper than all previous deals.

  • Hey OP, any deals on 49" monitor!

Looking to get one bigger one :)

    • Possibly a 38" but not sure if any that big, sorry.

  • +1

Not a bad price. Here is the rtings review for those who are interested.
    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/s2721d

  • any expected deals on the S2719DC ?

  • +1

No - not Dell ebay - i want to use my coupons from the last monitor i bought

  • -1

How long is shipping? Would i get it by next week?

    • No not by next week, I'll update OP shortly with estimates.

      • Need a monitor this week or next. Can't wait

  • -4

Welp I missed out - out of stock

    • +3

nvm - 6 pm AEST lol

  • +1

For a moment I thought it was Friday today. That would have been a true bargain.

  • -5

    Oos missed it

    • +4

Ok not yet active it pays to read

  • +1

    KEEN!

  • Any chance of the 25 inch going on sale?

    • 25" alienware?

      • The 25 inch 1440p. U2520d?

        • No U deals planned on my end.

  • Will a 27 inch benefit from 4K or is it just a small screen to even notice?

    • +2

You will definitely notice, but 4K sweet spot is 32”. That’s not saying 27” is bad though.

    • Generally yes, I had an even higher res 5K 27" display until this year and it was noticeably sharper than a 27" 1440p monitor.

But if you sit so far away from your 1080p 24" (93dpi) or 1440p 27" (109dpi) monitor that you can't pick out pixels, I don't you would benefit from a 163dpi 4K display.

    • Higher ppi is always better when it comes to image quality, especially at native resolution on desktop screens. Generally 4k on 27" would look way better than 4k on 32" for desktop use (163ppi vs 137ppi) - depending on panel quality. The downside is Windows OS and apps still don't scale that well so the trade-off is very small text at native res. Depending on your eyesight, how far you sit from your monitor or what you're using it for will determine the scaling. Some people are fine with 4k on 27", some require scaling.

    • I found 4K on my 28" too high and I'm someone that normally wouldn't mind and leaves scaling at 100%.

I think 32" would be better.

    • Gaming and media consumption - yes, you can still notice if you look carefully.

Work (inc. video editing at 4K): honestly, too small if you go 1:1 mode. However, you can use display scaling - which is fine for newer apps, but for older apps, can look a bit odd.

  • +2

Is 350 nits good for a desktop monitor?
    How's the color gamut?

    • +1

yes it is. color gamut on this is fine just no HDR.

  • What are the main differences between this and the S2721DS model?

    • +5

They're the exact same panel. The DS has a better stand which swivels and enables it to go into portrait mode. If you're pairing this up with a good gas strut monitor arm it won't matter.

    • S2721DS has an adjustable stand, specs are all the same otherwise! :)

  • +4

Can you let us know the price for other incoming deals? (two 4k27", DGF and ultrawide). I wonder if I should get this or the 4k one!

    • I can't be specific with pricing until deals are announced. Just browse previous deals and know they'll be cheaper than those.

  • +1

This one is really sweet (and more 4k and 2k144,hz plz

    • I got you fam. ;)

  • Does it have in built speakers?

    • +3

Audio: In built 3w Speakers - stereo

    • +2

Yes, but they are quite terrible. Great screen, but any $15 pair of speakers will fundamentally shit on the inbuilt.

  • +1

Thank you kind sir , I’ve been holding out for this as a second monitor to the DGF !

    • +1

      That's a berry good idea.

  • +2

    AW2521HF?

  • @Limaaa could we please get a 240hz monitor deal? Been waiting for one for ages now, and I know a lot of other people are too.

    • Dell with be launching some new esports monitors in the near future. Let's wait and see.

  • thanks for the good deal, I wonder what new ultrawide is going on sale, keen to see a deal on new aw3821dw

    • That would be interesting.

  • -7

LiMaaa, my friend, I am so looking forward to your S2721DGF so please do not disappoint me :)

I think $507.93 was the lowest so far so I am sure you can bring it down sub $450 yes yes yes LiMaaa.

And last time, it hits 605 upvotes; let's home run this next deal for 27DGF to 888.

    • +1

Haha, I guess a lot of others didn't resonate with your humor. I won't disappoint you, but that price you're asking is undoable, let's go for almost undoable ;)
