Bought a $100 Mastercard Gift Card with a $250 Mastercard Gift Card. Could have done it heaps of times yesterday when they still had a bunch in stock but felt too weird about going back and forth. Oh well, my loss.

  • Coles Southgate Plaza (Reynella SA) has no cards of any type, with small signs apologizing for the lack of stock.

  • Melbourne east seems to be sold out with no signs of restock :(

    • No delivery over weekend obviously. Try your luck on Mon, Tues.

      • Is it really that obvious?

I think major supermarkets would get deliveries over the weekend. It's not just a Mon - Fri delivery world.

        • I think goods and cards(not essential things) are different. I am not 100% sure, though.

    • only 1 of $100 left at Coles noble Park, yesterday. :-)

  • Can I pay my CC bill at Auspost using split pay with the Coles mastercard or is there a fee? My Auspost has a self checkout machine so I don't mind the extra effort.

    • My statement (28 degrees/Latitude) says the account can't be paid with CC, although there's the option for postbillpay at Auspost. Might give it a go next week to see if it works.

you still think credit card companies are all that stupid.

  • A silly question: are the cards activated at purchase, or do I need to activate them online?

    • Activated at point of purchase so you can use immediately :)

      • thank you for the quick response

    • Check you receipt

  • Only $50 cards left at Noarlunga SA. They now have a poster up advertising the discounted cards, so I'd say that's it for that store.

    • +1

Play a stupid game to get 50c on $50, when you can get 2% cashback from hsbc

      • +1

I did buy one $100 card with 2% HSBC, so effectively got 7.39% discount. The $50 cards are indeed useless.

        • Have to be patient, too many approvals if buy many.

          • @Neoika: I bought one per day just to be safe. Didn't want HSBC triggering a card freeze.

            • @Cluster: Why would HSBC freeze your card? Suspected fraud or abuse of cash back? Has this happened before?

              • @YesPleaseThankYou: Abuse of Paywave. If you keep buying near $100 every few minutes without using a PIN it can look like someone has stolen the card and is emptying it.

                • @Cluster: 3 or 4 times in a short period is fine. I vaguely remember it maybe the 6th time that it'll reject the payment.

                  • @Neoika: Each financial institution has its own fraud rules.

I don't believe that repeated transactions authorised with biometrics (eg Apple Face ID) would be blocked.

                    • @YesPleaseThankYou: It’s the issue of manufacturing multiple spends under $100 at the same place that gives the 2% rebate. Banks don’t like it and may cancel the card…..

                      • @Coops1: Well, today I made many (not revealing how many) split transactions to take advantage of the 2% cash back.

No transaction was blocked and the 2% cash back was paid for all.

Let's see if HSBC makes the allegation that the transactions were split and tries to claw back the cash back.

I would suspect that clawing the cash back is not worth HSBC's time and effort.

      • +2

But you can pay by HSBC card on top of the 50c, only 2 cards per trxn.

        • Unsure what you mean.

          • +1

@YesPleaseThankYou: I think they mean you can use your HSBC card to get an additional 2% back on top of the 50c discount you’d get through the promo. But in order to get the 2% rebate you need to ensure the transaction is under $100 (ie 2 cards which together work out to be $99).

            • @Chookt: Ah, well, it makes financial sense to get the $100 card as that costs $94.50 (under the below $100 2% cashback eligibility threshold).

              • @YesPleaseThankYou: Definitely so. But if there aren’t any $250 or $100 cards left then this is possibly the next best option.

        • Handy for online use.

  • Melbourne's north pretty much all gone, rang and gone to a few stores, nothing whatsoever.

  • I cannot see this deal on the catalogue for QLD Metro.
    Am I missing something?
Only a deal for bonus points on David Jones gift cards on my catalogue.

    • If you downloaded the PDF, it is likely not there; if you are viewing the catalog online, then this is detailed on the last page as shown here for Victoria.

      • I got the printed catalogue in store and definitely not there.
May be it is not on in Queensland?

        • +1

It’s on in Queensland. I saw it in the online catalogue for my suburb and saw instore ads in the suburban stores and the CBD.

          • @Chookt: Thanks. Now it is only a matter of finding the cards then…
The shop where I got the catalogue did not have any, but I did not worry too much because the deal was not on the catalogue. The printed catalogue has only 40 pages, but the online one has 48 pages…

            • @Mad Max: There was a while bucket of 250s @ Pac Fair today.

            • @Mad Max: Some of the old Aqua $50 cards at Queens Plaza. Whether they scan or not is another matter…

              • @Chookt: If there isn't 36 months of date left, they won't work; it's pretty simple.

              • @Chookt: Plenty of $50 cards around, but not worth the effort. The $250s would be good. That's why they are all gone!

  • Nothing at Coles Woden or Coles Curtin (ACT)

Suncorp charged me $1.82 to verify the Coles Mastercard. Does anyone if this amount can be refunded when using a prepaid gift card?

    • in what context?

is the charge just pending or a transaction? charges that remain pending will go stale after a period of days and disappear

credit refunds are be done on the card

      • It says it's pending. And thanks, I wasn't sure if refunds could be done on the card because it isn't reloadable.

        • +1

Refunds are covered in the terms and conditions of the card.

      • in what context?

If you add any new credit/debit card on SunCorp's gift card portal, then they will put in a random pending authorisation charge of less than $2, to verify your credit/debit card.

You are then supposed to check the pending transactions for your card, and then enter the exact pending amount to complete the verification.

    • The verification amount will stay pending & then be automatically cancelled after a week or two.

The only annoying thing is that you won't be able to use up that final $1.82 & throw away the card until that pending amount disappears.

  • Blue $100 are in stock at Corrimal but it’s not scanning. Item not found. Maybe try later and it will work.

    • Due to minimum 3 years to use. They must be old stock, dated 1/24 or earlier. You wont be able to buy them.

      • ^This
A lot of stores have 1/24 stock and didn't realise that it's under the 3 year expiry minimum.

  • Can these be added to Google Pay?

  • -6

Is this false advertising on the part of Coles? Impossible to find stock anywhere

    • If you want to complain about failing to provide enough stock to the ACCC and fair trade entity in your state, then sure; it's your uphill battle to fight.
Otherwise no, stock was provided as advertise, just sold out before you could get there.

      • It's interesting that the advert page (online only), says "Whilst stock lasts and no rainchecks" …. it doesn't say, "Not available at all stores" ….

According to posts in this thread, some stores have re-stocked.

Still, I wouldn't count on winning any battles over it.

    • Yep. You should sue em.

  • Coles probably hide the stocks and won't be on display until Tuesday night or Wednesday when promo ends

    • +1

Are you kidding the staff and friends followed by the early birds would have had no benefit if that was the case :)

  • Thanks TA!

  • Still some $100 and $50 cards at Richmond NSW.

  • Not sure if it works.

Heard people talking about using the gift card to buy the gift card.

And do it multiple times in multiple stores.

  • -4

    seems like they've restocked

    • Location please.

    • Which store?

    • +1

Sunbury VIC had 250s and 100s

  • For those who want 100s in Sydney
There's about 10 left (along with 5 hangers full of 50s) at Smithfield (gotta ask them to get them though)
About 12 left at Kings Langley

  • I assume that a refund could not go back onto these cards. And so I wouldn't use these when buying something where a refund is a possibility.

It was a big mistake to scan my flybuys card. My new offer this week is spend $260!!! No way I have ever or will ever spend that and now it will take me forever to get it down again.

    • +1

Time to apply for a FB new card.

    • Aha! Yes me too. 'Knock me over with a feather'.

    • +1

Coles strategy worked! Weeds em out. Lol.

    • I got a spend $200 for 3000 points for the next few days.

  • Can I do that?

    • +2

my new offer spend $160. gives 2500 points…. ridiculous.

just became new flybuys member no problem

      • did you use the same name and details?

        • +1

          Hi.

Had to use different email address but same name and date of birth but different mobile.

          • @IanC: Was mobile necessary? I never gave them my mobile years ago and refused to give it them when they asked for it some time ago now.

            • +2

@affinity: I've used the same number for my 5 FB accounts.

              • @CVonC: If they really want to crack down they can track that. Not sure they do but I use different mobiles and different methods of payment.

            • @affinity: They changed it last year. You cannot log into your account without providing it, although you can see some info when you activate offers. But without logging in you cannot check if you have been credited points or redeem any rewards.

              • @Yola: I login with my flybuys number and not the mobile. Perhaps you can try that instead?

                • @affinity: Seems like now you MUST provide a mobile for a new FB account and you CANNOT REMOVE IT! :(

The original account is still sans mobile….

        • I could not use the old email address signing up… it gave a not available address.

The mobile had to be provided for 2 way verification the email address

        • +2

just got first offer… 1000 points spend $30.

big improvement for 2 mins effort signing up

      • Got the same after scanning FB buying these. lol

      • Yeah I got a disgustingly bad offer too, spend $310 for 3,500 pts; guess I'll be shopping at Woollies much more in the coming weeks / months.

It's hard enough to get value when a spend needs to be over $100, and it only happens if the points are worth it and/or there is a good higher priced item that I want (maybe from the BestBuys).

        • +1

Make sure you buy Woolies eGift with the Coles Mastercard gift cards for extra savings!

          • @cwongtech: The value is already attained in the purchase, now it is all about using money I own, in the Coles MasterCard area, I will use it on things that I can't otherwise get a discount. I've got plenty of 5% off value left with Woollies eGift cards before they dropped the level of the discount, that will run out soon enough and I'll have to buy new eGift cards for Woollies at the reduced discount rate.

Used 3x $250 for a payment to an auto repairer, with the balance going to LPG. There will be other expenses like that and both of those without extra cost for using the prepaid credit cards.

            • +1

              @affinity:

Save the residual cards to be added to Paypal and you can pay off utility/council rates in whatever denominations you put in.

Last resort: Add to Amazon Wallet and buy an eGift card equivalent to the residual balance, effectively letting you combine crappy $1-$10 cards into your amazon account for further purchases :D

Coles Woden has heaps of $250 cards now, magically restocked overnight. Surprise of the freaking century.

    • Shows the IQ of the staff there lol :)

    • +2

      Surprised Pikachu

Who would have thought that they'd get restocked overnight. We saw it with the TCN gift cards, and we see it again with the Coles MasterCard.

Basically these cards were sold out since Thursday and no restock.

      • Why would Coles bother having the cards on special if then they remove them from the shelf? Wouldn't it be easier just not to have the sale at all? Same result without the effort.

        • It depends… it gets you in the shop and once in the shop, you will likely spend monies. If there are no cards available, you /might/ visit another shop, rince and repeat. The taste gets sour quick if your visit is not worth anything to you, the customer, so it's a fine line.

          • @affinity: Well I don't know others but I get really annoyed when any shop has something on special and they have hardly any stock for the whole duration of the special. Not even on the very first day. Aldi does that often.
In those cases I will not buy anything else in the shop at that time. I know it ends up in a waste of my time, but if everyone was to do the same they would realise that the baiting is backfiring on them.
