The first sentence would have sufficed. Have a think of where you came from too.

@bassiveguitar: i was tempted to reply but thought better not… but you nailed what i would have said :) … although having kids does give you insight into the ways people (i mean kids) try and get attention .. =P

@[Deactivated]: Literally no one cares that you are "child-free" mate, we wouldn't have even known if you didn't go around screaming it from the rooftops.

Go back to your Reddit sub and whinge about how people are "discriminating" you on ozbargain 🙄

@[Deactivated]: Have kids, don't have kids. I don't care. It's not why are you are being downvoted. Your language is reprehensible. My child is not a crotch goblin. It's a disgusting term.

Agreed having children isnt desirable for everyone.

You got negged for acting childish and being rude about it.

Look at the negs on my comment already and you'll see how butthurt breeders get when you mention anything child-free related.

That's mainly related to the second half of your comment.

@[Deactivated]: I'm child free but I don't think anyone is saying I'm beneath them.

          • @[Deactivated]: Pretty sure you're getting 'negs' because you're being an obtuse (profanity), mate.

@[Deactivated]: I for one totally agree with you. I'm glad you don't breed.

    • There are also 4 and 6 user plans. This is just the two user one.

I was seriously considering Aldi when looking to move away from Telstra. Then realise I can get 10% discount on my weekly woolys shop if I am with woolys mobile. That is a great option if you regularly shop with Woolys. It works out really well for me.

    • +5

do you mean your monthly woolies shop?

      • +9

10% off one shop per month which you nominate. I use it for my biggest shop of the month and generally save around $30 each month

        • +1

Is the 10% off capped to say, a maximum of $30 (on your largest shop), even though you spent $400 and were expecting $40 off?

          • +1

            @Trishool: I think it's up to $50 so spend $500.

            • @etan: Cheers, thank you! Do you know if it applies to online orders, instore or both?

      • +1

        woolys

        I lol'ed.

    • +26

Save >10% every time you shop @ Aldi

      • +2

This, so true, for so many years I didn't realise this. In reality, saving is more around 20% mark at ALDI as compared to Coles/ Woolworths.

        • +3

saving is more around 20% mark at ALDI as compared to Coles/ Woolworths.

We survive purely on the 50% off items each week from Coles and Woolies… Works out 30% cheaper than Aldi…

          • @jv: He did the math!

      • +21

until you hit the middle isle and buy shit you don't need….

        • +1

          Whatdya mean don’t need?

        • +3

Middle isle - is that between North Isle and South Isle?

    • Hi, as someone who was previely with ALDI for 6 months then transferred to BOOST, my genuine advice is the call quality is really a downside, I dont have a lot of calls, but when I do, it feels like 2G, lagging and unstable.

      Just a heads up.

      • +2

Sounds like you're the only one with this problem because it's fine for my parents and wife (and was fine for me but I switched to get a better package deal with NBN). All using different phones.

      • +1

Well the good thing is that you're not locked into a contract with Aldi, so if its crap, move on to something else.

      • Telstra Wholesale supports HD voice over 3G. Telstra retail / Boost also supports similar high quality codec with VoLTE. I suggest your handset lacked support of the former or had it disabled, which is unusual. Both sound awesome.

  • Anyone know if Aldi's (or any others like Woolies etc) allow you to port from Telstra for a Phone + Watch? i.e. Telstra charge $5pm for the watch eSim.

  • +2

FYI, AldiMobile does not support Wifi calling AFAIK. If you dont need that feature, it's very good value.

    • That was the point of difference that led me away from them to boost.

    • This was also the reason that I am on Boost.

    • Lucky I changed to boost before I moved house then. Did not know that this was a telco-enabled feature. Thought it was a phone feature (although it is technically).

    • +1

Also on boost for this reason. It's ridiculous that the carriers haven't enabled VoLTE/VoWiFi for the MVNOs. They'll have to eventually, telstra has announced a shut down of their 3G network in 2024. But I guess they'll try and abuse their position for as long as possible.

    • Sorry I'm unfamiliar with wifi calling. Do you mean using mobile data when outside of home wifi To make a WhatsApp call?

      • Wifi calling is using the wifi (if connected) for making phone calls. VoLTE is using your mobile data. They come in handy if the reception is sketchy.

        • Okay "ridiculous that the carriers haven't enabled VoLTE/VoWiFi for the MVNO'. So I can't use 4g for voice call

          • @IamaCam: I disable VoWi-Fi, it's annoying when it auto switches between Wi-Fi and Cellular - you can hear it switch and the audio levels vary between each transport medium.

    • What is the benefit of wifi calling? I know my partners phone has that feature (but isnt used), mine does not.

      • +1

Wifi calling - When you have sketchy reception on your phone inside your house your phone will use the house wifi to connect for calls/texts, but still operate as if you were out and about

        • Cheers, thank you.

    • Thanks this stopped me getting Aldi. Wifi calling is the only way I get reception when I’m visiting my nephews

  • +4

Aldi Mobile uses Telstra network which is great bonus for coverage. I am on $80 Family plan for more than a year and now I have almost 900GB rolled over data. It comes handy when things go wrong with home internet. (rarely happens). Family plan is for 4 numbers so just we need.

    Overall we are happy.

    • +9

Just to clarify - Aldi uses Telstra Wholesale network - it's almost the same but there are some coverage gaps in rural areas.
Boost is the only prepaid provider that uses the full Telstra network.

      • +1

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that.

      • +3

Without splitting hairs, Boost uses the full Telstra network except the 5G part.

Boost only offer 3G and 4G connectivity, still more than enough for most people though.

      • Aldi mobile is far superior to Optus in my area (Sydney metro) and great value.

      • Does this mean when on Aldi 4G, you don't get the same speeds compared to if you were signed with Telstra directly?

        • That is my understanding, I think Wholesale lacks carrier aggrigation ("4GX") so you are at the mercy of whatever congestion exists on the single band you are using. Often only one band is available (B28 700Mhz) so it depends on how close you are to the base station, if you aren't in close proximity proximity only the lower band (B28) will offer service so no difference in those areas.

    • +1

thanks for the info… definitely something to consider as we get (as @nurries puts it) more crotch goblins into high school .. :)

      • What’s a crotch goblin? Worse than crabs?

    • Same. Over a tb accumulated. Great for long distance car trips and holidays.
Mrs entropy and the three juvenile entropies.
I have a work phone on Telstra, and you do notice the coverage difference in rural areas.
That said I wish I could add a fifth eSIM number to the family plan. And an Apple Watch.

    • Yes like their stores inferior to the best, but more than made up for by value

  • Does aldi mobile have the option of 5g? if not will they ever get?

    • +1

Not currently, and probably not for a couple years. Once the 5g buzz dies down and Telstra has recouped their investment on it

      • +1

Which will probably take longer because they charge extra for it.

        • Yes my Telstra business plan doesn’t have 5G and I won’t pay extra for it. Truth to tell the only real reason I would need it is to brag about the 12 mini’s download speed on Speedtest.

    • gomo (Optus MVNO) says they're looking at adding 5G 'over the coming months'

      • So when it arrives in 2 years time that statement will still be correct.

  • +2

I reckon getting two of the $300 (at the usual OzB rate) boost packs comes out cheaper, and you get 50gb combined?

  • +1

Has any current family users swapped from multiple individual plans to one one of these family plans? Is it fairly straight forward?

I’m guessing any rollover data accrued to date on the individual plans will be lost.

    • Also interested in the answer to this.

    • If you can see the phone number when you log into your Aldimobile account, it is a drop down menu and <enter> to move numbers in or out of the family plan.

      • Brilliant. Sounds easy enough. My current period ends on Sunday so perfect time to give it a go.

        Thanks for your response.

  • Slightly off topic, but what's a good deal for the $300 boost Sim? Considering that is the only true Telstra network besides Telstra themselves.

  • +2

wish they had a cheaper share plan with less data. my wife and i mainly use wifi and use maximum of 10gb between us

  • I suppose Boost has gone to shit now with no overseas coverage (not that I need it)…but I see they no longer have a $150 for a 12 month plan, but rather $200 for the 12 month plan with only 30GB for existing users….only new users get around 118GB

weird plan…I hardly use 3 or 4 GB a month so 30GB would not be sufficient and 118GB would be over the top!

Guess Aldi family is the new Boost

  • +2

What the heck do people do with that much data each month?

    • In my case not much, which is why I have nearly 300gb rollover on my Aldi plan. Good hotspot for any wifi issues though, as I found out when hotel wifi crashed for a day or so on holiday recently.

    • Since covid I go camping. I use the rollover.

  • I assume this would come with 2 sim cards?

    • Nope. You need two starter packs.

  • My wife and I are on an Optus legacy plan (carried over from Virgin) and out of contract.
Our monthly bill is due to be paid this Sunday on our postpaid plan.

I have never (I know, old bloke with grey hair on the same plan for 20 years…….) changed provider apart from when Virgin sent us to Optus.

What's the procedure for taking on this plan, please?
Do I just click on the "Buy Now" button and it all happens, and I don't have to pay Optus after this Sunday?

Thanks in advance for the help.

(Edited to get my days right)

    • +1

Just get SIMs from Aldi store and activate online via their website (www.aldimobile.com.au).

Use the code in the SIM pack and during the activation process, chose option to bring/port your existing number and within a few hours your new SIM will be activated.

      • Thanks for the super-quick response.

So, I just ask the checkout person to give me two SIMs and I walk out without paying then?

Does that mean that Optus will no longer send me a bill after activation?

        Sorry to ask dumb questions……
