  • what denominations do the cards come in ?

    • +10

Considering Coles use these promos to simply drive in foot traffic, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything over $50. They don't order stock to cover these promos. And the stock they do order is primarily the $30 cards only (with smaller batches of $50 cards).

      • +2

That's false, they have toll delivery these cards. Just open the cabinet and you'll probably find them still wrapped up inside with the promotion start date written on them. Coles staff don't stock the shelves.

        • +4

I went to the same Coles for three days straight. First thing in the morning (because they said they get their delivery later at night) and they opened the cabinet each day because nothing was on the shelf. And there was nothing in the cabinet.

I've had the same result then and numerous times before. Yet, during a normal week without a promo, they've got the $100 cards in surplus.

This isn't my first rodeo and I'm not the only person to experience the same thing at different Coles stores.

          • +1

@KangaDrew: These cards aren't delivered with their regular deliveries they are delivered via courier post. Most staff just leave the box behind the service desk until a manager or the gift card rep come and restock it. I'm sure there is plenty of stores that either get none delivered, sell out or just don't restock.

            • +4

@MrrMagic: No one said they get delivered with normal deliveries. At the end of the day though, the facts remain the same. I can understand smaller stores having low volumes, but when you've gone to a dozen of the largest Coles stores in your area over the course of numerous promos and the results are the same, what you say should/could/might happen differs vastly from reality. And the reality is that the only time you'll find larger denomination gift cards is when they don't have a promotion running.

              • @KangaDrew: Both my local coles have loads of $100 ones. Maybe I’m lucky

          • +1

@KangaDrew: Both Coles near me have tons of $100 cards today. They are in small suburban shopping centres away from main roads, so worth checking in those kind of locations if you think supply is a problem.

Someone will have to correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember correctly:

      • Kids: $30, $50
      • Home: $50, $100
      • Eats: $30, $50 (I think)
      • Thanks: $50, $100
      • Beauty & Spa: $50, $100 (I think)

I’ll have a look the next time I’m at Coles.

Thanks, none of those can be use with JB or Good Guys

    • Is it call them before I go officework ? Or how to do so ? Thanks in advance :)

      • +15

You can ask Officeworks staff in-store or over-the-phone to beat Coles' price.

        • For in-store, you'll need to show the staff member a physical or digital copy of the weekly catalogue.

        • For over-the-phone, please tell the staff member to refer to the specific page of the current catalogue (unless they're already aware of this deal); you will be given the option to collect the gift cards from an Officeworks store, or have them mailed to you (and you may be charged postage fees, depending on your location).

Some staff may tell you that the PBG cannot be applied to purchases of gift cards. This is false, as the PBG page does not list gift cards as an excluded item.

Please note you can only ask Officeworks to price beat Coles if Officeworks does not drop their prices on their Ultimate gift cards to match (or even beat) Coles' price.

Have OW reduced their prices previously to match the Coles offer?

          • +6

@unity1: They used to do that if any major retailer (e.g. Coles, Woolworths, BIG W, Myer) sold gift cards (e.g. iTunes gift cards) at an upfront discount, but they stopped doing that two or three years ago.

Officeworks didn’t drop their price for Google Play gift cards when Woolworths sold it at a 10% discount earlier this week.

I think Officeworks calculated that they’d lose more money selling gift cards at an upfront discount to all customers than if they honoured the PBG for a handful of customers.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: OW have saved me a boat load on Apple gift cards too. Have found a few times they try and not honour it…. employees must think the savings are coming out of their own pockets…. anyway… stay strong and save!

Plus remember the flybuys points from Officeworks!

      • I wonder if Officeworks will actually reward you with Flybuys points for gift card purchases. Their website says no, but know knows!

        • +3

However, you'll earn reward points on your credit card 😉
(assuming you pay for it with CC with points rewards)

    • Do they not sell the home gift card in officeworks?

      • why would they? It has their competition stores on it (JB HIFI and TGG) lol

    • -1

Can these cards to he used to buy iphone from jb? If so how many cards can he used in one transaction?

      • +4

Yes, it can be used to purchase an iPhone. The limits on the number of cards you can use in one transaction is discussed here.

    • +1

Does this actually work? Never heard of price match on gift cards

      • +3

If you look at their price beat guarantee (PBG) policy, gift card purchases are not excluded, but they also reserve the right to limit the number of gift cards you can purchase through the PBG.

I’ve also had success in the past getting Officeworks to price beat Coles, Woolworths and Myer selling App Store & iTunes gift cards at a discount in the past. However, you’re at the complete mercy of Officeworks staff, and some staff may refuse to apply the PBG for really random reasons, so YMMV.

      • Very much so. Ive used Officeworks to get the 19.25% off Itunes cards many times. Shame Apple changed the cards where it now seems they dont discount them anymore. best you get on Apple cards now is points deals through retailers. Still something but not as good as saving almost 20% off face value.

    • Why is it 19.25% off with OW? I thought they will beat price match by only 5%

      • +3

        100-15%=$85
        $85-5%=$80.75

        So you saved 19.25%.

      • +2

They do beat it by 5%.

But the don't go, Ok let's take 20% off the original deal, they match the special price and then reduce it by a further 5%.

        $30 - 15% = $25.50 - 5% = $24.22 (rounded)

        So you only get $5.77 ($5.775) off, not $6 (20%). Which means it's 19.25 percent off $30.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the way I've always understood it.

LOL, beaten by @GuyfromMelbourne because I took too much time writing it out on the phone, I'll leave it up anyway for the $30 example.

        • Appreciate the detail, clarifies something I was a bit confused about. Thanks!

    • Sorry stupid question, but when you call and they confirm that they do price match, don’t you still need to go in store to buy it or can you buy online?

      • You should be given the option to either:

        • Collect the gift cards from an Officeworks store, or
        • Have them mailed to you (and you may be charged postage fees, depending on your location).
  • Out of curiosity, can you add those cards into iphone's wallet app for convenience sake?

      • Does this work for the EFTPOS cards as well, or just the VISA ones?

        • No, only the Visa gift cards.

          • @WookieMonster: So compare to TCN seems you can use these physical gift card to buy apple gift card in jb hifi thourgh mobile wallet

            • @SawI: If you are buying a JB Hi-Fi gift card in-store, and as long as you tell staff that you’d like to pay by card, yes.

If you are buying a JB Hi-Fi gift card online, it should work if you’re using Apple Pay, but there’s always a chance that JB Hi-Fi will cancel your order (which has happened to some OzBargainers). It will not work if you’re using Google Pay or Samsung Pay, as JB Hi-Fi does not accept either of those mobile wallets as a payment method on their website.

      • Apple wallet asks for expiry date… I entered issue date plus 3 years (so 12/24), terms and conditions came up for "Blackhawk Network", I press agree but it says card details are invalid…

        Edit: Expiry is 12/29

Also just read on faq that can't split payment with ultimate cards online so will need to ensure full amount used/leftover not wasted

    • +34

      tl;dr highly unlikely.

Keep in mind the following is only in relation to the Visa version of the Ultimate gift cards. There are still some EFTPOS versions of the Ultimate gift cards being sold at my local Coles, and those gift cards are as safe as houses (even if you can only use them in-store).

My response also assumes the recent attacks on Coles Gift Mastercards are due to Bank Identification Number (BIN) attacks, rather one of Indue's systems being compromised or some other reason.

BIN attacks exploit multiple weaknesses in the payment card number system.

      • Visa and Mastercard card numbers have 16 digits, with the first 6-8 digital reserved for the BIN identifying the issuing financial institution, and the last digit reserved for the Luhn algorithm that can pick up transposed digits or single digit errors.

      • Some purchases (e.g. mail-order/telephone-order (MOTO) transactions) only require the card number and the expiry date of the gift card to process a payment, so the CVV2 (Visa) or CVC2 (Mastercard) printed on the card is not even required for some card-not-present transactions!

      • Some online payment processors do not adequately protect their online payment portals against people (or bots) guessing and checking different combinations of card numbers and expiry dates (and maybe CVV2/CVC2 values).

In summary, to pull off a BIN attack, you need to be generate multiple potential card combinations and test them without flagging suspicions from a payment processor.

The Coles Gift Mastercard is a Mastercard that can be spent at merchants that accept prepaid Mastercard gift cards (which is most merchants accepting Mastercards).

The card number structure is so limited that there is a theoretical total of 5,000,000 card number combinations. I won’t go into detail as to how I got to that specific number, but you’ll have to trust me that the total number of combinations is quite low. I don't think Indue (the card number) has ever issued that many Coles Gift Mastercards, but that's the number they could issue.

The Coles Gift Mastercard is also created in batches, so it comes with a limited number of expiry dates. The expiry dates are printed on the front of the gift card (because customers would want to know the expiry date of the gift card they're about to buy), so anyone who walks into a Coles or Coles Express store can see some of the expiry dates. I have only ever seen five unique expiry dates, so that's not great…

Because it is really just a Mastercard and can be spent at millions of merchants across the world, it would not be hard to find a merchant whose payment processor does not adequately protect themselves against someone guessing and checking multiple card combinations in a short period of time.

The odds of correctly guessing the details of a Coles Gift Mastercard (including the CVC2 value and assuming five expiry dates) is 1 in 25,000,000,000. However, you can shorten the odds to 1 in 25,000,000 if you find a merchant who does not require the CVC2 value, and that's probably why so a lot of people were hit with fraudulent charges. If you use bots/scripts, you can quickly check multiple card combinations, and then it is only a matter of time before you come across an activated Coles Gift Mastercards with funds on it.

The Ultimate (Visa) Gift Card in this deal is a Visa gift card that can be spent at participating merchants. If you have the gift card's details, you can:

      • Spend directly at merchants that accept this gift card for online or in-app purchases, or
      • Exchange the gift card for a digital gift card from some of the participating retailers, or
      • Add the Ultimate (Visa) gift card to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay and use it participating retailers who accept Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

There is a theoretical total of 1,000,000,000 card numbers, but if you look at different Ultimate (Visa) gift cards in-person, you'll probably notice a pattern and be able shorten the odds. My assumption is that the Ultimate Home gift card will have a series of numbers distinguish it from the Ultimate Kids gift card, the Ultimate Thanks gift card, etc, and from looking at multiple (used) Ultimate Home gift cards that I currently have on me, I suspect there are currently actually only 12,000,000 total card numbers across all Ultimate gift cards (i.e. 1,000,000 Home gift cards, 1,000,000 Kids gift cards, etc). This is something I will have to look into the next time I'm at a place selling Ultimate (Visa) gift cards.

The expiry date for online purchases for all Ultimate (Visa) gift cards is 12/29, but when you go to exchange the gift card for a digital gift card, I think you use the gift card's actual expiry date (i.e. the month and year that is three years from the gift card purchase date). I haven't ever exchanged the Ultimate (Visa) gift card, so I'm not sure which expiry date you're supposed to use!

The problem is that you can only guess and check different card combinations:

      • Online or in-app at participating retailers who allow this, or
      • On the gift card exchange facility, or
      • On Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

I'd like to think that all of the participating retailers and Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay adequately protect themselves against BIN attacks. My only concern is that the gift card exchange facility does not require you to pass a CAPTCHA test, so I don't know how well their systems will block someone (or a bot) inputting multiple card combinations in a short period of time.

All the participating merchants who accept Ultimate gift cards online or through their apps should be requiring the CVV2 value printed on the card, so the odds of correctly guessing an Ultimate Home gift card in this situation is 1 in 1,000,000,000 (assuming you know the BIN and the string of numbers of identifying the card as a Home gift card). However, if someone found a way to redeem this gift card with only the card number and CVV2 (which I don't think is even possible), you'll shorten the odds to 1 in 1,000,000.

The odds of correctly guessing the gift card through Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay is 1,000,000,000 (assuming you know the BIN and the string of numbers of identifying the card as a Home gift card).

If you are exchanging the gift card for a digital gift card from a participating retailer, the odds of correctly guessing an Ultimate Home gift card (assuming you know the BIN and the string of numbers of identifying the card as a Home gift card) is 1 in 3,000,000,000 (assuming you have to use the actual MM/YY of the gift card, which I think is the case).

The challenge for anyone trying a BIN attack on Ultimate gift cards is that I don't think there's an easy way to guess and check multiple card combinations, which is why I say it is more likely you'll have one of your Coles Gift Mastercards compromised than one of your Ultimate (Home) gift cards compromised.

Thanks for the very detailed reply! :)

      • Excellent work. Appreciate the time you took to lay it down. From your answer I would suspect you work finance fraud or digital forensics. Nice one.

  • Damn, these seem better than the TCN version of "Home". Looks like you can use them online with JB and Good Guys (and Iconic), is that right??

    • +14

That’s only true if you buy the Visa version of the Ultimate gift card.

There are two versions of the Ultimate gift cards:

      • EFTPOS gift cards: can only be used in-store at the participating retailers. These are being slowly phased out, but they’re still kicking around at some Coles supermarkets. If you can see the card sitting on top of the cardboard sleeve and a list of participating retailers printed on the card, that’s the EFTPOS version.

      • Visa gift cards: this version is the one pictured in the deal, and can be identified by the fact that the gift card is hidden inside the cardboard sleeve.

      • Do you know if the older EFTPOS cards can be used in-store, but only with the details or photo on the phone (i.e. the physical card is not there with you)?

        • +1

You must have the physical EFTPOS gift card with you at the retailer, as you need to swipe the gift card on the EFTPOS terminal to initiate payment. These EFTPOS gift cards do not (and cannot) support card-not-present transactions.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks for all the help you've been providing in these comments!

    • -1

except someone said in the thread that you have to use the full value in one go, otherwise you have lost the remainder? IDK if that is true or not

      • +2

that is not true, you can use whatever amount and use as many times as you want.

    • not really better since you can't split payment online with Credit card payment so you can only pay maximum $100 order.

      • If these are treated as visa credit cards, can you potentially use these Ultimate cards to buy TGG gift cards, and then combine payment that way?

        • +1

You can only use a maximum of two TGG gift cards in a single online transaction, so you'll quickly run into problems if you're wanting to spend lots of money at TGG.

If you live near a TGG store, you could try your luck and use multiple Ultimate Home gift cards to purchase a TGG gift card in-store. Another OzBargainer successfully did this recently, but YMMV.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks for the info Wookie!

          • @WookieMonster: @WookieMonster is this less of a problem at JB Hifi?

            • +8

@tripdubz: It's more of a problem at JB Hi-Fi, but only if you end up with the older EFTPOS version of the Ultimate Kids or Ultimate Home gift cards.

The Visa version of the Ultimate Kids or Ultimate Home gift cards (i.e. the ones pictured in this deal) can be exchanged for JB Hi-Fi gift cards on Ultimate's dedicated gift card exchange website, or you purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card directly on the JB Hi-Fi website. You can use an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website.

However, if you end up with the older EFTPOS version of the Ultimate Kids or Ultimate Home gift cards in this deal, and tell staff at JB Hi-Fi that you would like to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using an Ultimate gift card, JB Hi-Fi staff will almost likely tell you "no". JB Hi-Fi head office issued a directive to all staff during last year's 15% off TCN gift card sale at Coles to stop customers from purchasing “gift cards” using TCN or Ultimate gift cards. I know this, because I asked a couple of JB Hi-Fi staff members late last year (out of curiosity) whether I could use two Ultimate Home (EFTPOS) gift cards to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card. You may be lucky and find a staff member who will look the other way, but don’t bank on it.

However, JB Hi-Fi has not set up their POS system in their stores to automatically block you from using Ultimate (or TCN) gift cards to pay for gift cards (including JB Hi-Fi gift cards), so I have some suggestions for you…

              • Only use one Ultimate EFTPOS gift card to pay for a JB Hi-Fi gift card. If you ask to use multiple cards, that will most likely arouse suspicions from the JB Hi-Fi staff. That may mean you will have to do multiple visits to multiple stores (if possible) over multiple days, so it may a tedious task…

              • Ask to pay by card. Do not mention anything about using gift cards as a payment method. The Ultimate EFTPOS gift cards are treated the same way by the POS system as a regular EFTPOS card, not a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

              • Try to hold the physical gift card in a way that it is not obvious to the staff that you are holding a TCN gift card.

              • @WookieMonster: Thanks for the tip!

When we swipe the gift card on EFTPOS, do we then select credit?

              • @WookieMonster: Please be advised JB Chadstone (near Holmesglen) may pay attention if you are buying gift cards using TCN.

I overheard them talking among themselves saying they should not have processed my purchases but got overruled by senior staff.

              • @WookieMonster: Does Coles have discount of 15% every year?

                • +1

@Bettyboo: I don’t recall a previous 15% off discount at Coles for the Ultimate gift cards in this deal.

There was a 10% off deal earlier this year, and some of the less popular Ultimate gift cards (e.g. Him, Style) were 15% off earlier this year too.

                  • @WookieMonster: @wookiemonster, thanks for all your inputs here, really appreciate it. just to be clear, if it's in-store there's no limit to the number of cards we can use at both TGG and JB Hifi?

                    • +2

@tripdubz: Considering another OzBargainer used 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards to pay for an item at JB Hi-Fi last weekend, I think it’s safe to assume that there’s no limit on the number of TCN/Ultimate gift cards you can use in one transaction. A different OzBargainer used 20 TCN gift cards to purchase one TGG gift card last weekend too.

There’s always a chance JB Hi-Fi or TGG will introduce a limit in the future (like what happened just before last year’s 15% off TCN gift card deal at Coles started when JB Hi-Fi and TGG limited the amount of TCN gift cards you could redeem in one transaction to $500), but at this stage, you should be fine.

                  • +1
              • @WookieMonster: I have a question if you don't mind.

Is there a way to physically tell if the gift card is the EFTPOS or Visa version?

It's so I don't buy the wrong one..
                Thanks in advance

                • +8

@Ausdave: There are two ways you can spot the difference:

                  • Look at the packaging. If you can see a gift card sitting on top of the cardboard packaging, that is the EFTPOS version. If the gift card is tucked inside the cardboard packaging, that is the Visa version. In this photo, the $50 Active gift card is the EFTPOS version and the $100 Active gift card is the Visa version.

                  • Look at the gift card number on the back of the gift card. If the gift card number starts with 502125, that is the EFTPOS version. If the gift card number starts with 457824, that is the Visa version.

                  • +1

                    @WookieMonster: Thanks for reply.

Also thanks for the other detailed comments above.

I don't know what you do for a living but you're a very smart fella

                    • +5

@Ausdave: I don’t know whether I’d call myself smart. I’ve simply absorbed a lot of knowledge from other bargain hunters on OzBargain over the last few years and I’m happy to share that knowledge (as well as first-hand knowledge I’ve picked up from using gift cards and working out what I can and cannot do when purchasing or redeeming gift cards at Coles, Woolworths, BIG W, etc).

I also don’t work in the gift card industry or for a retail business. Strange, eh? I guess you could say bargain hunting is my hobby and my particular area of interest is gift cards!

  • +1

Can the Home cards be used online at the Good Guys?

    • +2

Only the Visa version of the Home gift card can be used at The Good Guys online (and probably also The Good Guys Commercial, but don’t quote me on that). My local Coles still stocks the EFTPOS version for some reason, and those gift cards are in-store only.

      • +3

I tried recently but unfortunately you can't use gift cards on Good Guys Commercial.

      • +1

Can home (visa version) gift card use online at jbhifi to buy jb’s own gift card as jb’s gift card never expire and we can use online as well.

        • It worked a couple of weeks ago for another OzBargainer, and my guess is that should still work.

          • @WookieMonster: I just tried to use, but there is no expiration date???? I just put 12/24 but it didn’t work. I tried as a gift card but gift card number must be 18 digits but this new visa card has 19 digits, so it didn’t work as well.now waiting for another way to convert these new visa card to JB hifi gift card

            • +1

@R n b: The Visa version of the Ultimate gift card is a Visa card that can only be used at participating retailers, so at the end of the day, it is a Visa card, not a JB Hi-Fi card.

The expiry date you use for any online purchase (or exchanging the gift card on Ultimate’s exchange portal or adding to a mobile wallet) is 12/29.

    • +1

there is no point, you can only pay with 1 credit card online. It means you can ONLY use it for order that is less than $100 which is the max denomination for this gc.

    • Just keep in mind that TGG only accept 2 gift cards max online, IIRC this includes credits too eg concierge credit. Its a PIA as they have a lot of online only sales and its hit and miss to getting them to match the price in store.

      • a way around that is ring your local store, get them to do the sale over the phone, email them your gift cards and they can then send you an invoice with residual balance (if you have any) that you can pay online….this can only be done if you have TGG gift card numbers (i.e. if TCN you have exchanged to TGG, so unsure about using these cards)

  • can you use flybuy points to buy the cards?

    • +1

If you have coles credit card binded with flybuys membership, you can redeem 2000 pts for $10 per checkout.

    • +1

Following on from the above comment from @BennyHe2018, if you have a Coles Insurance policy or Coles Personal Loan that is tied to your Flybuys account, you can also redeem 2,000 Flybuys points for a $10 discount. Keep in mind that the $10 is a discount, so you’ll earn 10 less Flybuys points. For example, if you are purchasing a $50 Ultimate Home gift card and opt for the $10 discount, you’ll earn 40 Flybuys points, not 50 Flybuys points.

Also, you cannot use Flybuys Dollars at Coles to pay for any gift cards. You can try, but you’ll get an error.

      • +3

Exactly, leave your points in your account and the checkout machine will deduct automatically if you are eligible.

        • Oh so if still in points (not converted to flybuys dollars) we can use to buy giftcards? Wow didnt know… yes 2000 equal $10 so i need 20000 points less 15% and can get $100 gift cards

          • @CyberMurning: You can only redeem $10 only per transaction if you have eligible Coles finance products like credit card, insurance etc. You can make multiple checkouts if you don't mind.

  • +6

Waste of effort and time for 95% of the people who go looking for it

    • Agreed. Went to a few Coles during the last sale. Couldn't find anything

      • +1

My local Coles is already out of the $100 and $50 home gift cards

    • I've never had any problems finding these.

  • What is the expiry date for these cards?

    • +1

The actual expiry date of the Ultimate gift cards is three years from the date of purchase.

However, the expiry date you use for online purchases with the Visa version of the gift card is 12/29.

  • Went to check everywhere but couldn't find any stock. Also make sure you buy the exactly same color card.

    • +1

remember this deal doesn't start until Wednesday

      • +1

I am talking about the last time when the deal was on. ;)

        • I went to the nearby ghetto and found stock

  • +4

Why OP. My wallet is bleeding from the recent TCN deal.

  • +2

Is there a limit on the amount of these you can use at JB Hi-Fi in one purchase?

    • +4

In-store sales: there's no limit built into JB Hi-Fi's systems. Another OzBargainer recently used 81 EFTPOS gift cards at a JB Hi-Fi store.

Online and over-the-phone sales: the limit is one, assuming you have the Visa version of the gift card. However, the way around it is to exchange the Ultimate gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card through the dedicated Ultimate gift card exchange facility or use the Ultimate gift card to purchase a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card and then use the digital JB Hi-Fi gift card(s) for your online purchase. There is no limit for the number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards you can redeem on the JB Hi-Fi website. If you have the EFTPOS version, you cannot use that for any online (or over-the-phone) transactions.

      • Does JB Hi Fi have any other useful gift cards to swap to ?

        • +1

It depends on the gift cards sold at your local JB Hi-Fi store and your definition of "useful".

I have seen different JB Hi-Fi stores stock Apple, Google Play, PlayStation, PlayStation Plus, Xbox, Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Steam, Nintendo eShop and Stan gift cards, but YMMV. I think there are other gift cards sold at JB Hi-Fi that I don't recall…

      • What exchange portal? Ultimate GC has exchange portal?!?

          • @WookieMonster: the portal doesn't have any JBHifi gc option to exchange. Have you even login to try it?

            • +1

@samehada: Another OzBargainer told me via DM on 21 Nov that they were able to swap an Ultimate Home gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card through the website I previously linked to you and they were also able to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website using an Ultimate Home gift card, so I assumed it was still working. I also was looking at the Ultimate gift card website around this time when I was writing this section of the page and saw you could exchange Ultimate Home/Kids gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards, which is why I assumed that OzBargainer was correct. Clearly things have changed in the last two weeks!

My guess (and it is a guess, as I don’t have any Ultimate gift cards on me at the moment) is that you should still be able to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website using an Ultimate Home gift card. As I write this comment, JB Hi-Fi is still listed on the Ultimate gift card website as a retailer that will accept the Ultimate Home/Kids gift card online, so I assume that should still be fine (unless they have reconfigured their website to block the Ultimate gift card BIN (457824) when attempting to purchase gift cards on the website).

You may be able to also add the Ultimate Home/Kids gift card to Apple Pay and then use Apple Pay to pay for an Ultimate Home/Kids gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website if you are using an Apple device to view the JB Hi-Fi website. Again, I cannot test that right now, as I don’t have any Ultimate gift cards on me at the moment.

              • @WookieMonster: Am I correct in thinking you could buy 5x $100 VISA Home vouchers at coles, then use each of them to checkout gift cards at JB Hifi online 5 times? Do you enter the visa details like a normal credit card?

And then how many JB hifi gift cards can you use online in one transaction?

                • +1

                  @Brick50:

Am I correct in thinking you could buy 5x $100 VISA Home vouchers at coles, then use each of them to checkout gift cards at JB Hifi online 5 times?

                  That should be possible.

JB Hi-Fi currently accepts Ultimate Home (and Ultimate Kids) gift cards on their website, so it should work. You may face issues with JB Hi-Fi's fraud system stopping you if it thinks you're buying too many gift cards in a short period of time using different Ultimate gift cards each time, but I don't know whether that would happen.

Do you enter the visa details like a normal credit card?

Yep. Alternatively, if you have an Apple device, you could add the UItimate gift card to Apple Pay and pay for the JB Hi-Fi gift card on the website via Apple Pay.

And then how many JB hifi gift cards can you use online in one transaction?

I believe there is no limit.

                • @Brick50: Has anyone tried this out yet? I just tried on one of my $100 gift cards and got a Do Not Honor error message..

  • Hopefully Coles scatter them throughout the promotional period this time.
During the last Black Friday gift card promo a minibus of people cleared out my local Coles right on opening. Arrived 10 mins after them, all sold out. I wonder how many other Coles they hit up.

    • What do they do with so many cards? Surely there has to be a limit to how many are useful?

      • Ozbargain bro.

  • anybody know how many gift cards you can use at one time at Temple & Webster? (I know these Ultimate cards can't be used there, just a general enquiry, as I have TCN cards)

    • I can answer this.. I too had the same enquiry last time around with TCN one.. got one agent on their live chat that said 1 gift card only can be redeemed per order.. didn't believe it, got another agent saying as many as I like.
So I went out and got 5 TCN Home gift cards, went through the TCN site and exchanged them for Temple & Webster gift cards which came in via email.. it allowed me to use 5.. so I assume its pretty much any amount really (from what the 2nd live chat agent suggested).

  • Wow, again!!

  • Nice!

FYI you can probably purchase giftcards with these at JB by adding these physical to Apple/Google wallet. Assuming the guy behind the desk doesn’t see what card you’re tapping with.

Add your Physical Card to your Mobile Wallet
    1. Go to the Wallet app on your mobile device
    2. Click on the plus icon
    3. Select Debit or Credit card on the next screen
    4. Enter your card details Expiry enter as 12/29
    6. Your card has now been added to your mobile wallet

    • can you add more than 1 physical card to your mobile wallet? i.e 2x $100 = $200 balance

      • They’ll be treated as separate cards so I don’t see why you can’t. It’ll likely depend on your device wallet though, I think iPhones can hold up to 12 cards.

    • I have the home gift card from the previous promotion and no matter what you cannot add it to Apple Pay. It says it isn’t eligible. Tried every number on the card and nothing works

      • Their new Visa cards work. Not the old eftpos ones.

        • Oh my bad. Didn’t know these were visa
Do these stack like the eftpos ones in store?

          • @jayboi: They should work - just need to tell the cashier you’ll be doing split payment.

    • You mean adding the Ultimate Visa version?

      • Yeah the ones on this post are visa ones. Don’t think they’re producing the eftpos ones anymore, might still find them in some stores though.

  • Does anyone know if it matters with the EFTPOS cards if all the retailers are actually shown on the card itself? I have seen a heap of cards where there are only a few retailers on the card itself compared to a much larger list shown on the UGC website.

    • The EFTPOS and Visa gift cards are two separate gift cards.

The links in OP's post only relate to the Visa gift cards. If you're looking for the participating retailers of the EFTPOS gift cards, you need to go to a separate website, where you'll see the most up-to-date list of participating retailers.

      • Yep, got that thanks. However still have the same question. On the website it shows 8 retailers for the Him card, however the physical cards I can see only have 6 retailers (missing the one I want). Question is, will these work at all the retailers on the website, or only the ones showing on the physical card?

        • +3

My assumption is that the card will work at the participating retailers on the website.

The gift card terms and conditions states:

The gift card may be used to purchase goods or services at the participating retailers featured on the card in Australia with “EFTPOS” facilities who accept the gift card, provided that the gift card has enough unused value to make the purchase. Ultimate Gift Cards cannot be redeemed online. Each card has a specific set of merchants in which it can be redeemed at. For a full and updated list of participating partners please visit our website www.ultimategiftcards.com.au.

Ultimate Gift Cards have a history of adding and removing participating retailers, which is why I think the website is more likely to matter than the front of the gift card itself.

          • @WookieMonster: Hey WM,

Are these cards basically the same as the TCN ones that Coles had last week? Other than different stores etc?

            Kind regards

            • +1

@basketcase86: TCN gift cards and Ultimate gift cards are run by competing companies, but they’re similar in the fact that they’re selling gift cards that can be used at a list of participating retailers.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks, they seem like a bloody good option if you are looking for another kind of appliance or tech product.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks. Decided to give it a try and worked fine.

  • +2

I used to work at Coles. Store members just hide the high value cards and buy them on their off days / tell their friends where they are hiding. They don't bother with the $30/$50 ones.

    • Not surprised mate. I went to local Coles in the morning on Day 1 of the recent TCN Cards promo and was told they are all gone.

    • So what do you recommend

Will tantrum or rolling on floor crying work

Or should I travel to 500 Coles stores today and hide one card in each packet of cereal

guys I hid some gift cards in the Kinder surprises. (Joke)

    • Do staff get extra 5% discount on top?

      • +1

The staff discount doesn't apply towards gift cards.

    • +1

Last week's TCN 15% off there were heaps of them…. the sale wasn't even advertised on the gift card stand. Maybe just depends who the employees are.

  • +2

lol nearly paid for some of these last week full price thinking they were the TCN ones. Those cards are too similar so make sure you get the right ones.

    • Yeah I bought the wrong ones. $30 lesson.

    • You get a discount right away when you scan it. If no discount. you know you got the wrong one.

  • +1

These are visa debit cards now? Can you pay ATO with? Surely not.

    • No you can't…

  • can I use my coles gift cards to purchase these cards?

    • -3

You cant use gift cards to buy gift cards.

  • +1

Used $500 of Home cards to put towards an Oven from TGG. Should have gone back to Coles to buy another $1,000 worth to maximise the discount but the process of using 5 x $100 Home cards was easy at the counter at TGG.

  • +1

See u all early morning on Wednesday at Coles, Warriors!

  • Fingers crossed Menulog continues their $6 voucher next week for added discount!!

  • Are you able to use those gift cards online as well or in store only?

    • +1

There are two versions of the Ultimate gift cards:

      • EFTPOS gift cards: can only be used in-store at the participating retailers, cannot be exchanged for digital gift cards and cannot be added to mobile wallets. These are being slowly phased out, but they’re still kicking around at some Coles supermarkets, which is why I’m mentioning it here.

Some of the participating retailers will accept it in-store, some will accept it online or through their app, and some will allow you to exchange the gift card for one of their own gift cards. You can also add this gift card to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay and use it at the participating retailers that accept one of these mobile wallets. You’ll need to go to the Ultimate gift card website (the links are in the deal description) to see how retailers will accept Ultimate gift cards.

  • time to go hide all the cards behind the milk isle

    • Why behind milk, keep them fresh?

      • Apple
        Products hardly ever gets
        Discount. Not even $50

  • -2

Sorry didn’t understand what u said

  • Anyway to indirectly buy Steam gift cards with the cards listed in the post?

    • +1

Assuming your local JB Hi-Fi store(s) sells Steam gift cards (like mine), purchase an Ultimate Kids or Ultimate Home gift card at Coles, and then use it at JB Hi-Fi to pay for a Steam gift card.

A word of warning though: staff may tell you that you cannot use TCN or Ultimate gift cards to pay for Steam gift cards. This is because JB Hi-Fi’s head office issued a directive to all stores at the start of last year’s 15% off TCN gift card at Coles to stop customers from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards to purchase gift cards. Most staff will assume the directive was only related to the purchase of JB Hi-Fi gift cards, but some staff will insist the directive covers all gift cards sold at JB Hi-Fi (including Apple, Google Play and Steam). JB Hi-Fi’s POS system will not block you from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards to pay for any gift cards, so if the staff will let you do it, the POS system will not stop you.

      • unfortunately steam cards dont work for me i can only use Russian ones

wasted $20 on an aus one

      • @WookieMonster Legend! Thanks for such a detailed response!

How do I get a "Visa version of the Ultimate Home or Kids gift card"?

        • +1

It depends on the type of Ultimate gift cards your local Coles supermarkets stock, as there are two versions of the Ultimate gift cards:

          • EFTPOS gift cards: these can only be used in-store at the participating retailers.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Good to know and thank you again!

            • +1

@frankfu1122: Btw, here is a photo of the EFTPOS and Visa versions of the Ultimate gift cards.

The card on the left is the EFTPOS version, and the card on the right is the Visa version. Hopefully you’ll see what I mean by “card sitting on top of cardboard” vs “card hidden inside cardboard”!

  • How do you price match the 15pct discount off the GC with OW?

  • For those pondering over using more than 2 gift cards at TGG, i emailed my gift cards to the admin team at store and they applied it to the order for me. Please note this was an in-store order with some balance payment needed to be made.

  • +4

I used about 60 of these cards last week to purchase the 77" LG OLED c1. The lady was lovely and laughed about it while taking about 25 minutes to process the transaction. She then laughed again saying this is the longest invoice I have ever issued. Don't be scared to make a big purchase with these cards in store.

    • -1

Any issues getting 60 of them given the limit if 5pp?

      • Most checkouts allow you to perform 5 cards per transaction and are happy for you to come around multiple times. The last time I done it the checkout said the new limit was 10 but that she would need to get permission from a superior to authorise it.

    • What was the sticker price for the TV?

  • If I wish to return a product purchased using these gift cards, how would jb or tgg return the funds? Will they give you a jbhifi gift card instead.

    • +2

Staff may return the funds to a debit/credit card, but it's more likely they'll return the funds onto a JB Hi-Fi or The Good Guys gift card (or even JB Hi-Fi or The Good Guys store credit). It is not possible to return the funds onto the TCN or Ultimate EFTPOS gift cards, and I also think it is not possible to return the funds back onto the Ultimate Visa gift cards.

      • This is what happened the last time I did it.

  • Wow, that was a good guess by another member that Cole’s will do a similar deal to big w.
Actually better, but knowing my luck and all local Cole’s within 30mins drive.
took the big w deal, plenty of 100 card even 3 days after the deal started.

    Good luck everyone this time.

The staff at both coles and bigw have been nice about checking behind the cabinet, some are more thorough, but can’t complain. (Over the last couple of deals)

    • When did Big W do these cards for 15% off? Missed that it seems.

      • Nah, they’re almost likely referring to the ongoing deal at BIG W where you get 10% of an Ultimate gift card’s value back in the form of bonus Everyday Rewards points.

The reasons gift cards are not flying off the shelves at BIG W are:

        • You are not getting an upfront discount on the gift cards. You instead have to pay full price for the gift cards and then get a bonus that you have to spend on future purchases at a small number of businesses (and it cannot spend on gift cards). Experience tells me that people love upfront discounts much more than bonus Flybuys or Everyday Rewards points.

        • There is a limit of ten gift cards per Everyday Rewards member.

That deal is still appealing to some people, as there’s only five Ultimate gift cards that is part of the Coles deal, where it seems nearly all Ultimate gift cards are part of the BIG W deal, which is particularly good for folks looking for the Ultimate Students gift cards to redeem it at EB Games.

  • Buying something from Amart Furniture, is there any limits card can be used there?

  • Thinking of buying an iPhone from JB-HI-FI using these gift cards… just to confirm that I won’t have any issues buying Apple Products with these sort of gift cards?

    • +1

A lot of people have been able to use TCN or Ultimate gift cards to purchase Apple products from JB Hi-Fi. JB Hi-Fi doesn’t list Apple products as an excluded purchase for these gift cards, so you should be fine.

If you’re planning to buy an iPhone online or over-the-phone, you’ll need to convert the Ultimate gift cards into JB Hi-Fi gift cards first.

      • If you have the older EFTPOS version of the Home or Kids gift cards (which are currently being phased out, but are still sold at some Coles supermarkets), you’ll need to go into a JB Hi-Fi store and purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards using the Home or Kids gift cards. Please note this is against JB Hi-Fi policy, as JB Hi-Fi staff were instructed by their head office late last year to stop customers from doing this. Having said that, JB Hi-Fi’s systems do not automatically stop you from doing this, so if staff don’t realise what you’re doing, you should be fine.

      • If you have the newer Visa version of the Home or Kids gift cards (which is the one pictured in this deal), you should be able to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website by directly inputting the card details into the checkout or using Apple Pay. It worked a couple of weeks ago for another OzBargainer, and I think it should still work now.

If you’re planning to buy an iPhone in-store, you should be fine.

      • There is no known limit for the number of TCN or Ultimate gift cards you can use in one transaction; another OzBargainer recently used 81 EFTPOS gift cards, so I guess the sky is the limit…

      • If you are going to use a stack of Ultimate gift cards to pay for an iPhone, I suggest you go to JB Hi-Fi at a quieter time of the day, and remove the gift cards from the cardboard packaging and scratch all the PINs before you go to the store. If you don’t do that, you’ll probably double the time you’ll spend at the checkout. Staff will be doing you a favour by letting you use a stack of Ultimate gift cards in one transaction, so at least return the favour by making the checkout process as quick as possible!

    • +1

just got one an hour ago at jb, iphone 13 128gb. Went at 3pm cos i knew it'd be quiet then, no one else in line. The cashier was pretty friendly, fast, and seemed used to it.
I used an assortment of $30, 50 and 100s, about total 20 cards. Scratched them out last night, ripped them off the sticky bits holding them in (i missed some blobs and a few times the goo got stuck in the eftpos swipe machine lol - so yea recommend you pull the majority of the sticky things off beforehand)

  • +1

Bought a Bosh washing machine using the 15% discount home gift cards. Only has $1100 giftcards. So has to pay credit cards of the remaining $200. Made in germany, very quiet washing machine

    • I did too! Which model did you get?

  • +1

Hope i can get some giftcards on wednesday to buy my iphone 13

  • @WookieMonster - I understand that this gift card is available in both EFTPOS and VISA versions (with the latter being able to be used digitally).

Is the Visa version the one with cards beginning with the number 457824?

That’s correct. FYI, the EFTPOS version starts with 502125.

I'm almost certain this deal includes the Teens card as well if you want it for JB. I'm going to go to my local and test this first thing tomorrow.

    • +1

It includes Teens for JB. Bought some Teens and Kids card as part of this deal

  • Saw lots of $100 ultimate home at my local Coles. Given the limit of 5 per person I'm hopeful of scoring 5 tomorrow morning at 6am

    • +1

Got my 5 this morning so thanks OP. I noticed they had a lot fewer cards out this morning than they had the other night. Hopefully they have kept some aside for those who are not early early risers, power walkers or pack hunters.

  • Might have to wander into Coles again tomorrow 😞

  • +1

Has anyone had any issue with buying 5 then coming back and buying another and so on? Do staff monitor this?

    • Exactly. How are people getting 80 of them?

      • Sounds like you’re referring to this OzBargainer.

They mentioned in a different comment that they were stocking up on TCN and Ultimate gift cards across multiple gift card sales and also got friends to help them pick up stock from other stores.

They’re honestly not as mad as the OzBargainer who somehow managed to purchase $36,000 worth of Apple gift cards during the first Apple gift card deal at Woolworths. I’m not sure how that OzBargainer managed to find so many Apple gift cards during a deal where Apple gift cards were almost impossible to find at Woolworths.

I think you need a lot of luck to be able to amass a stack of those gift cards… or be very good at hiding them before the sale starts.

    • +3

It’s a classic case of YMMV, but I’ve noticed that staff at the stores near me really do care about the five gift cards per customer limit, as it is well known by now that TCN or Ultimate gift cards (or Coles Gift Mastercards) can be extremely hard to come by during these kind of sales.

If you go to a Coles supermarket where the staff recognise you, they’ll probably instantly pick up on what you’re doing (or thinking of doing). I remember during the 10% off Coles Gift Mastercard sale in June, one of the service supervisors at a store I visited first thing Wednesday morning helped me process five gift cards through the self-service checkouts. However, I went back a couple of days later to do my grocery shop (and wasn’t actually trying to buy any more gift cards), and the same service supervisor came up to me whilst I was queueing for the self-service checkouts and said “I hope you’re not buying any more of those gift cards.”

If you’re at a large enough store, there’s really nothing stopping you going through one serviced checkout with five gift cards and then returning a few minutes later to purchase another five gift cards again at a different checkout. If it is busy enough when you do this (and maybe put on a different coloured mask or something), it is doubtful anyone will pick up on what you’re doing.

The exception is if the staff are stocking all the gift cards on sale at the service desk and forcing everyone to go through the service desk. I saw that at a couple of Coles stores during the first 15% off TCN deal last year, so I guess your chances in that case of getting more than five gift cards have plummeted to almost zero. You’d have to wait until a shift change, and by the time that happens, the gift cards you want may be gone. You may also need to get friends or family to help you out at that stage…

However, if you visit multiple stores, there’s no way each store will know whether you’ve already picked up zero gift cards or 20 gift cards during a deal.

      • +2

my coles guy just told me to go out and come back and buy another 5 if i wanted more. They just can't put more than 5 per transaction. lol.

  • +1

Visited few Coles this evening in Melbourne & noticed ultimate home 100 are not on shelf.

    • People are hiding them before the sale possibly. I just found a stash of 100$ cards behind optus SIM cards! In Melbourne

  • -2

Can these be used on eBay? Or be used to purchase other gift cards for use on eBay?

    • No.

eBay is currently not a participating retailer for the newer Visa versions of the Ultimate gift cards, and none of the participating retailers of the Visa or EFTPOS Ultimate gift cards actually sell eBay gift cards (or prepaid Visa/MC gift cards, for that matter).

      • These are just visa cards though right? Theoretically you should be able to buy anything anywhere that accepts visa? Or am I missing something here?

When I purchased the jb gift card on their website, I filled out the details in the credit card section as I would when I would make a normal credit card purchase.

        • +2

These are Visa gift cards that only work at participating retailers.

My understanding is that when you attempt to make a payment, the EFTPOS terminal (or online payment gateway) at the merchant will contact Heritage Bank (the card issuer for the Ultimate Visa gift cards), which will check whether the merchant requesting payment is one of the participating retailers for the gift card you are using. If it is, it will allow payment to happen, but if not, it will simply decline the payment request.

  • Just came from my local and plenty of home 100 on shelf but wouldn't scan. they said there is an IT issue with the 15% discount. might be resolved by lunch time. (maybe gives them time to remove from shelf I guess LOL)

  • My local got smashed for the $100s on shelf with folk lining up to buy. No issues scanning them though.

    • -1

      Where's that

  • -1

Can anyone please help determine if this is the eftpos or visa version? The packaging and fine print (says select credit) looks like visa

However the card number is 457824 suggesting eftpos

    https://imgur.com/a/oH3BtpE

    • +5

      Visa.

Visa card number starts with 457824, EFTPOS card number starts with 502125.

I got 5 x $100 Home card, and then an Asian lady took all the remaining cards and hid them on another shelf. It's really interesting to see this happen again.

    • +5

If it was me I would’ve grabbed the cards she hid and bought them or put them back on the rightful shelf

      • Big time mate ..that’s would be the prefect thing to do and would definitely teach her a lesson ..

      • -3

I would if I can find the cards in the secret area but I can't. They are professional.

    • Don't hate the player, hate the game

    • -2

"an asian lady" You wouldn't say "a white lady" would you? Do better

  • Thanks OP!
    Plenty of stock in Geelong
Just picked up 3x$100 visa home gift card.

  • +2

At coles parramatta, a guy got all of the home cards available on the rack. Literally all, and started calling his mates to come quickly. Ha ha! I read this only in forums, saw it first time.

    • +1

Top level? Was there 15 minutes ago. Must be the same guy I saw with a stack of 20+ in his hand doing circles inside the store. Shouldve followed him around endlessy. But sadly gotta go to work :/

      • +2

Oh then I saw you.. ha ha. I returned home defeated all I wanted was 5😀

        • just a cheap and greedy people

          • @ntt: I was going to ask him nicely to give me 5 or I will call store manager to honour 5 gift card pp policy, but then I thought not worth it, considering he is carrying them around for a while in his hands. Anyway!

            • +2

              @akstatic: pee on him to show domination, I meant…cmon' You're a batman

  • I guess no point going then reading all this story. Save my petrol.

    • Wow at least someone was well stocked

  • Sold out forest hill and burwood for all cards!!!

  • Office works wouldn’t price match over the phone. Said it has to be done in store, of course no stores have gift cards in stock.

  • None left at Norwest. Attendant said they sold out at 6AM…

  • +1

Went this morning to 5 (sth east melb) coles - most of them sold out before i even got there (6:30AM)!

Made out with around $1.5k in giftcards. Will go again at lunch time and update.

  • Sold out in less than an hour after opening in Brisbane CBD for the Home card.

  • Plenty left in Knox (Vic)

  • Gone at 2570

  • For the Visa one, even after we add the card to GPay or Apple Pay, I suppose we can use it on at the participating stores only?

Wondering if this visa card would work for $1 check by vendors like Spotify.

  • Can the one with Xbox credit be used on the normal Microsoft store to get office?

  • Sold out at West Ryde, Top Ryde, and Gladesville.

  • Just tried to exchange Home one with JB-hifi gift card but sadly JB is not participating in the exchange :-(

    • Wait so home cards won't work at jbhifi? Or is this trying to do something different?

      • Sounds like exchanging it for a physical JB card maybe?

      • Yes, I was trying to exchange with JB gift card so that I can spend more than the nominal online. Example: I have 2 $50 ultimate gift card (Home) and want to shop at JB online for $75. I can't enter both Ultimate gift card to pay for the order. I was thinking if I exchange one with JB gift card, I can enter the gift card number and pay the balance with the other ultimate gift card. But apparently I can't exchange to JB gift card.

        • you can only use 1 card per order online? that would suck.

          • @Frozensage: That's not about how many cards. JB stopped exchange e-gift card for both TCN and Ultimate. Left one way to use these gift card. INSTORE

            • @ce5himm: damn, means can't stack with the jb code in the other deal? that code is for online only right?

              • +1

@Frozensage: Code can be used instore according to the conditions stated on the email.

    • +1

It was possible to do that a couple of weeks ago, but my guess is that JB Hi-Fi have stopped gift card exchanges on the gift card exchange website in preparation of this deal.

Can you purchase a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website using your Ultimate Home gift card?

      • Ah … that's another way … worth a try. Thanks.

      • No way. That's not gonna work.

        • Doesn’t seem to work for me :(

          • +2

@mytangledshoelaces: If you're using 12/29 as the expiry date and it's not working, my guess is that JB Hi-Fi has probably blocked directly using Ultimate gift cards to pay digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website. It was working two weeks ago…

The last option is adding Ultimate gift cards to Apple Pay and then using Apple Pay to pay for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website. However, considering that directly using Ultimate gift cards doesn't work, I would be very surprised if using Ultimate gift cards via Apple Pay would work.

      • +1

My gift card purchase has been processed, now waiting for it to be emailed to me.

        • +1

have you receive the order confirmation email? my order is showing payment processing, and i haven't receive order confirmation email yet. money seems be taken.

        • what number did you put in the cvv? on the website it accepts 3 digits, but the card has 4

          • +2

@dimple: Not the pin. There is a CVV next to the pin. Unless you bought the old ultimate stock.

          • +4

@dimple: The Visa version of the Ultimate gift cards have the following features:

            • QR codes on the front and the back of the card that allow you to view the participating retailers on the Ultimate gift card website.
            • A card number starting with 457824.
            • A three-digit CVV next to the four-digit PIN on the back of the card.
            • Instructions in a red box that tell you to select Credit if using the physical card in-person.

The EFTPOS version of the Ultimate gift cards have the following features:

            • Pictures of participating retailers on the front of the gift card.
            • A card number starting with 502125.
            • A four-digit PIN on the back of the card, but no CVV.
            • Instructions telling you to select Savings when using the physical card in-person.

If you have the EFTPOS version, you can only use it for in-person transactions. You cannot exchange it for a digital gift card, you cannot add it to mobile wallets and you cannot use it for any online transactions.

          • @peuwayaqdq: Mine says shipped but the card didn't arrive as yet

            • @Ash-Say: The JB Hi-Fi website states it can take up to three hours for digital gift cards to be delivered.

              • +2

@WookieMonster: I guess the game is over.

@Ash-Say: Keep trying. Some of my orders got cancelled, but some went through. Some went through on 2nd attempt.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Does not work for me any more. Bought 2 in the morning. I feel they are going to block it. Haven't finish the rest due to work. At least it's better than those TCN card, I can use on their website as a credit card instead of instore EFTPOS only.

      • sorry guys, why you need to buy jbhifi gift card with this ultimate gift card where you can just use that ultimate gift card to purchase stuff inside jbhifi and also that ultimate gift card has 3 years exp date. thanks

        • +4

Some people are looking to purchase items on the online JB Hi-Fi store, and JB Hi-Fi only allows you to redeem one Ultimate Visa gift card per transaction. JB Hi-Fi from time to time has online-exclusive items or online-exclusive sales.

Some people would find it a lot more convenient to shop from home rather than shopping in-person, particularly if they do not have a car for whatever reason.

Some people don’t live anywhere near a JB Hi-Fi store, but they live close to a Coles supermarket. For example:

          • Armidale (NSW) is about a 110km drive from the nearest JB Hi-Fi store in Tamworth (NSW), but Armidale has a Coles.

          • Ulverstone (TAS) is about a 120km drive from the nearest JB Hi-Fi store in Launceston (TAS), but Ulverstone has a Coles. The Bass Highway in some sections between the two places isn’t exactly a top-notch road either…

I think people living far from a JB Hi-Fi store would be happy to pay for delivery from the JB Hi-Fi online store, as it is far more convenient than burning a few hours of your day (and a lot of fuel) and hoping that the JB Hi-Fi store nearest to you has the item(s) you want in stock.

Some people may be concerned about JB Hi-Fi withdrawing from the Ultimate gift card scheme.

The terms and conditions of the Ultimate gift cards strongly imply that the list of participating retailers can be updated at any time and without warning, and a participating retailer has previously stopped accepting Ultimate gift cards; David Jones withdrew from the Ultimate gift card scheme over a year ago, and neither Ultimate gift cards nor David Jones made a song-and-dance about David Jones withdrawing until they actually withdrew.

Surprised Westfield Doncaster had over 70 of the $100. By the time I checked out and went back for more was mostly gone. And on the third round it was all gone

  • Bought 10 x $50 kids card from Coles Waterloo. Still plenty there with no queue

  • coles rhodes nsw - 5 x $100 home in stock 30 minutes ago

  • Still have plenty of home $100 and kids $50 at Coles Broadway, around 30 mins ago. There is a shelf loaded with the ultimate giftcard next to the self-checkout area.

  • do jbhifi or goodguys selling optus recharge voucher?

    • Yes I bought Telstra recharge voucher from JB before.

  • Does anyone know if it's Coles Express or Coles only?

    • Coles Express is listed as an exclusion for this gift card deal (and pretty much any other gift card deal advertised in the Coles weekly catalogues).

You could always try your luck, but my guess is that Ultimate gift cards are currently not discounted at Coles Express.

  • How do the Eats cards work for services like Menulog? I saw 2 cards today but one said use in store only and the other did not say that but there was an instruction saying swipe card and enter credit..is this second one the one that can be used online?thanks!

    • must be the newer VISA ones which can be used online.

    • +4

The second card you saw was the only type of Ultimate Eats gift card that can be used at Menulog.

There are two versions of the Ultimate Eats gift cards:

      • EFTPOS: this can only be used for in-store purchases only. It is being phased out, but as you saw, it is still being sold at some Coles stores. Menulog is not a participating retailer for this type of Eats gift card.

      • Visa: this can be used at some participating retailers in-store and some participating retailers online (including through apps). Menulog is a participating retailer of this type of Eats gift card.

In this photo, the card on the left is an EFTPOS Ultimate gift card, and the card on the right is a Visa Ultimate gift card. Hopefully, you’ll be able to tell from the packaging the difference between the EFTPOS and Ultimate gift cards, but if you need more clues, EFTPOS card numbers always start with 5 and Visa card numbers always start with 4.

      • +2

Thanks for the detailed explanation plus pictures. I can better differentiate between Eftpos and Visa now :)

Thanks so much…i will go do a look see later today :-)

  • Went to a coles store near the the M unviersity in North sydney, whose cabinet is opened so i took a peek and saw $100 home gift card, took those to the counter and the lady say we dont have these card ( reason: becasue she managed those) and she took those away.At the end there is no home cards to buy in that coles.

I dont mind they limit the number of card per customer to buy or number of card they are allowed to sale per day with proper notes in the advertisment or just show those card out AT YOUR LOCAL COLES CATALOGUE.. It is obviusly that store is becoming dick smith. Not sure is this a race problem some tribe are more tight arse than others or perhaps a coles employee can enlightment me the proceedure and condition for customers buying those

    • you should talk with the store manager, it is illegal

      • well she invite me to see the store manager and see the CCTV treating me like a theif !
Anyway I declined since that is not the only coles store I am aiming and it was early I need to go to the other store to get the cards before it is too late.

        • That is so unfair! I did the same thing and I was able to buy the whole stack. Hope you had better luck somewhere else!

          • +2

@massivedmg: it's so bizzare, you bringing them business but they treat you like a criminal, why does a cashier care so much is beyond me, you get paid your wage, and your employer gets paid the business, win win? Same as when you go to the bank to deposit money, they ask you a million question about where the money comes from, who gave it to you, blah blah, don't you want me to deposit money so you can lend it to other poor souls to connect your interest revenue?

  • Is this discount applies only for those 5 types that's pictured, or all of the Ultimate Gift Cards have the discount?

    • Limited to those 5 only

      • not true. its for all Ultimate cards I believe.

        • +1

As anyone bought an Ultimate gift card that's not one of the 5 that's pictured and still got 15% off the gift card?

          • +1

@Alinnia: Just bought the $50 student card x3 and it gets the same 15% discount. If you're not sure - just scan it at the self serve checkout and it'll show the discount on the screen before you pay.

      • Just bought out the Ultimate Students card and they’re got the discounts as well, so as shown in the catalogue it should covers all type of the Ultimate Gift Card for the discount.

  • Is there a limit when using diginal JB gift card to purchase in order? I heard that they used to limit 5 cards in one order but not sure if it is still applied?

      • Saw someone bought the TCN Home card XD

      • why are they buying the cinema card

  • Coles southern river WA got quite a lot. I think this may applied to all ultimate cards. Can always ask the staff to scan it.

    • +1

Should be fine instore. Some dude use 80+ cards, and it was fine.

    • +3

i just did. bought Ip 13 pro max 256 using 20 gift cards. didn't say anything . to save time, you can scratch and be ready with pins.. it would save ton of time.

      • legend!

      • kyerrams, can you confirm if those 20 gift cards were the VISA ones?

        • Mine were older eftpos versions.

  • How does the exchange card system work? If I was to purchase 5x$50 cards, can I add them and combine them into 1x$250 to spend at online merchants?

  • Wonder if there's any left somewhere. I thought they were on sale at woolworths this week, lucky I double checked ozb first lol

  • I had a few issues when I tried to convert more than 2 cards at a time on the website to JB gift cards, as I had to buy a bunch of $50 cards as my stores were out of $100. When I got to the 3rd card, it showed as order confirmed, but then i got an email saying the order was cancelled as something had failed the rejection process. This is happening when purchasing gift cards using a credit card also, as I tried it with my amex too. The only way I found around it was to use a different email address at the checkout, so I used my wifes details and put the billing address as the house next door (it doesn't matter as it's delivered via email anyway) just to be safe, and it worked for another 2 cards. This would become pretty tedious though if you had a heap of cards, it was a pain just doing it for the 6 x $50 I had

    • you won't be able to buy anymore. JBHifi anti-fraud system kicks in even at 2nd purchase. Don't bother to do that, you can pay with many cards in store anyway.

      • I'm trying to buy an air con which can't be bought in store, luckily I got enough cards through before the verification thing blocked me so I can put my order through online.

        • +1

You could purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using Ultimate Visa gift cards in-store, but you’ll need to be mindful of the fact that most staff will stop you from doing that if they become aware of you doing that, as JB Hi-Fi’s head office issued a directive last year to all stores to stop customers from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards to pay for gift cards.

That also assumes you have a JB Hi-Fi store near you!

        • Try going to the store and quote the product number.

  • Does anyone know if JB enforces a limit to gift card redemptions in store? It doesn't say anything on the website

    • +6

Considering an OzBargainer redeemed 81 EFTPOS gift cards at JB Hi-Fi in the last couple of weeks, it is safe to say there is currently no limit.

If you’re wanting to emulate what they did, you should at least remove all gift cards from their packaging and scratch all the PIN panels. You should also go to JB Hi-Fi at a relatively quiet time, as swiping a stack of TCN or Ultimate gift cards will take a lot of time and will effectively close off a checkout for a few minutes whilst you swipe gift cards (or tap your phone).

My concern is if too many people walk into JB Hi-Fi stores during busy times with gift cards still in their packaging and PINs still hidden, head office will start enforcing a hard limit.

      • +1

I only plan to use about 10. ill definitely go at a quiet time :)

  • Can we add these cards to our Google pay? And then use at a local Safeway?

    • Can we add these cards to our Google pay?

Yes, but only if you get the Visa version of the Ultimate gift cards. If you scroll down to Add to Mobile Wallet, there will be instructions.

There are older EFTPOS versions of Ultimate gift cards still being sold at some Coles supermarkets, and those cannot be added to Google Pay.

And then use at a local Safeway?

I would be extremely surprised if you could use it at Woolworths / Safeway / Purity / Roelf Vos, because Ultimate gift cards can only be redeemed at the participating retailers listed on the Ultimate gift cards website.

      • Ooh, then what is the benefit adding them to the Google pay?

        • The ones I can think of are:

          • You no longer have to carry the physical gift card with you if you want to redeem it at participating retailers accepting Google Pay. That’s particularly handy if you’re at a JB Hi-Fi store and you discreetly want to redeem one of these gift cards for a JB Hi-Fi gift card, an Apple gift card, etc.

          • It will also cut down the amount of time you spend at the checkout, as you only need to tap the phone once to pay, rather than swiping the gift card and selecting Credit and entering the PIN. This is particularly useful if you have ten gift cards you want to redeem in one transaction.

          • You can use the gift card online at participating retailers accepting Ultimate gift cards online and offering Google Pay as a payment method, which will save you from having to enter in the card details.

I guess it depends on whether you see these as “benefits”, though.

      • Do they stack together?

        • What do you mean?

@WookieMonster: Probably asking if the amounts add up on Google Pay so that it's one lump sum.
I'm guessing these get added as individual cards, so you'd still have 10 cards, but it'd be digital and still faster to use?

            • +1

              @nugstar: Ahhh gotcha.

If you have ten Ultimate Visa gift cards and added them all to Google Pay, it will show up as ten separate Ultimate Visa digital gift cards.

  • WA Harrisdale store had more than 20 of Home $100 GCs at 10am.

  • I managed to get 13x$100 HOME ones.

    • Good stuff. One transaction or 3

      • +1

        3 transactions.

  • local Officeworks here in SA rejected price match because they could not find the ad online. They did not accept the OzB picture above or the 7 News article about the sale. Useless store.

    • +1

it’s literally on the coles catalogue that you can find online lol. can they not find that?

      • +1

I think Officeworks staff are using any random excuse to not honour their Price Beat Guarantee on discounted gift card sales at Coles or Woolworths.

      • +1

Seems they just use Google once and then say Nope if it's not first result.

Opening the PDF for the catalogue is too much effort for them.

        • Bugger. Lazy ass people. Mine price beated no probs

Doesn’t even take long to open a catalogue 🙄

          • @I Smell Pennies: It's like getting a $10 off voucher on your Uber eats. Which these days just means it pays for delivery and the service fee, bearly discounting the food.

Still, would have been nice. 20% off is a significant voucher.

            • @dbmitch: That’s right. I don’t use Uber Eats much, but other vendors like Chatime, etc would be worth it

  • So I managed to grab 5 Home x $100 in VIC.
Used 4 in-store today.. still have 1 left.
I'm a tad confused on how to use it online on the JB website.
For an example I found a $99 item (with the 10% promo going) it drops down to $89 odd.
I added it to cart, but wasn't sure how to make payment.
Its not exactly a credit card, also doesn't have expiry - so I couldn't use it there as 'Credit Card'..
I tried gift card, but the number on the card and PIN didn't work.
So i went back and checked the Ultimate Home site (https://www.ultimategiftcards.com.au/card/home/) it suggests it can be used online, but also saw comments above suggesting it can't be exchanged to a JB gift card (not sure if this is what using online means).
So you can or can't use them on JB's website? Bit confused here.

    • +1

You should be able to use it on the JB Hi-Fi online store, excluding purchases of JB Hi-Fi gift cards. JB Hi-Fi sent a directive to all JB Hi-Fi stores late last year directing all staff to stop customers from purchasing JB Hi-Fi gift cards using TCN or Ultimate gift cards. OzBargainers were purchasing digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards using the Visa versions of Ultimate gift cards earlier today (on my encouragement lol), and JB Hi-Fi seems to have caught onto this and it looks like they're trying to shut down that avenue. However, JB Hi-Fi will let you buy pretty much anything else from their stores using these gift cards (even Apple gift cards), so you shouldn't worry about that.

The Visa versions of the Ultimate gift cards are basically Visa cards that can be used at a limited number of participating retailers, so JB Hi-Fi and other participating retailers will treat them as regular debit/credit cards. As long as you use the card number and the CVV2 value on the card and the expiry date of 12/29 in the debit/credit card field at checkout, you should be able to use it on JB Hi-Fi's online store to purchase that $89 item.

      • +1

Great I'll give it a shot! thanks

        • Just thinking… it sounds like only 1 gift card can be used as a credit payment source at a time on the website (ie - this Ultimate home card), sounds like I can’t buy say a $300 item with 3 of these cards?

          • @ezza: Correct, and that's why some OzBargainers were purchasing digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards using Ultimate Home gift cards earlier today. You can use as many JB Hi-Fi gift cards as you want in conjunction with one Ultimate gift card on the JB Hi-Fi online store.

The other two potential workarounds are:

            • Add the Ultimate gift card to Apple Pay and use Apple Pay to purchase a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website. I actually have no idea whether that works, but it may not, considering JB Hi-Fi is trying very hard to stop people from directly inputting the details of the Ultimate gift cards into the checkout and ordering a JB Hi-Fi gift card that way.

            • Go to a JB Hi-Fi store and purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using an Ultimate gift card. As I said before, staff have been directed to stop this, so you'll have to be discreet if you want to do this…

            • +1

              @WookieMonster: Sure thing
You seem to know a lot about this!
Might try the Apple Pay option worth a try!

              • +1

@ezza: I've been absorbing a lot of intel from others on this site, plus I am happy to help out other users, so that's probably why you see me pop up so much on gift card deals!

                • +1

@WookieMonster: Confirmed this works.. I removed all my Apple Pay cards just to be sure it didn't use a different payment source.
I added one gift card, went through checkout and it came via email. then did it again and again.. they take around 15mins to deliver via email.
So for who want to use this work around it works!

                  • @ezza: … it's working for now lol

It could also be because JB Hi-Fi's fraud detection systems have not kicked in yet, since you probably haven't recently purchased a JB Hi-Fi gift card before. I think someone trying to purchase eight JB Hi-Fi gift cards in this morning using Apple Pay would quickly run into problems.

                    • +1

@WookieMonster: managed to get 3 through.. thats enough for me for now i suppose!

  • Does anyone know if the discount is valid on $50 HOME cards as well?

    • It might be on all Ultimate Card. I have not checked yet

      • The advertisement only shows $100 card for HOME

        • Hence, might. I should have grabbed one of Him and Her to scan to see if it is also 15% off

    • +2

Yes, applies to $50 as well

    • +1

      Yes, bought one this morning

  • Why would you want to buy JB gift cards when these cards can be used at multiple jobs?

    • +1

I came up with a few potential reasons earlier today.

      • -1

Lets be honest here. 99% are going to use at jb or hardly normal.

        • I will use it to buy pet food:)

Thanks for all your comments @WookieMonster

    • +3

No worries. If it saves some people a few bucks, then I've done my job!

  • +5

I was at my local Coles this am to do grocery shopping…I came across the GC stand and looked to see if there were any of these cards out of curiosity. Unsolicited, a Coles employee told me some of the cards had a 15% discount and were a good buy…she then pointed out (not that I didn't already know) which ones were at 15% off and encouraged me to buy up to 5! I bought 5 x$100 Home cards and there must have been at least 30+ at 11am today

  • I was trying to get 3 x $100 and 2 x $50. at the self checkout the lady interrogate if I'm first time purchasing and yes. later on when I scanned the 4th system prompted I have exceeded the limits.i asked if limit 5 per customers, she said not for this store. if that is misleading advertisement because catalogue clearly said 5?

    • She's wrong. It's a limit of 5 gift cards per customer per transaction. Did she not authorise the prompt to let you buy the 4th and 5th gift card? If so, she needs to gain better knowledge of her company's promotions.

I have wondered why the Coles' system give that warning after the 3rd gift card is scanned. Is their system simply outdated and needs to be updated so that the prompt occurs after the 5th gift card is scanned, instead of happening after the 3rd gift card is scanned…?

      • +1

There are multiple points where a staff member needs to intervene during checkout.

After the 3rd card the scam notification alert comes up and they're supposed to provide an informational leaflet about gift card scams.

After the 4th there is a limit reached for "items put aside". I think this also applies to other items scanned that you don't want to place in the bagging area, such as large heavy items like boxes of soft drink cans.

And when completing the transaction after scanning any number of gift cards they need to approve the gift card transaction.

None of the above are related to the promotional limit of 5 gift cards.

      • Same with me. System flagged when I scanned the 4th. One of the staff just swiped her card to let it through.

  • When does this gift card deal at Cole's expire?

    • @ Pindone…Next Tuesday

  • Does anyone know when the stores get restocked? Still need a few more to buy a TV.

    • Yes. It did get restocked today morning in my nearby coles.

  • Cmon dealbot you should highlight Xbox for my dream of saving 15% on a XboxX m8 :)

  • +7

Thanks to everyone who commented with tips. Ended up using my stack of 22 cards at JB for a 13 pro. As mentioned above, prepare all cards by taking them out of their sleeves and scratch them ahead of time. Also highly recommend picking a very quiet time to do this, I got to JB at 8pm when there were barely any people around, the cashier was happy to help which I really appreciate! We laughed at how my very long receipt, taller than me, was nowhere as long as the one she once did for 80+ cards…

  • Can the TCN eftpos versions be used to buy apple gift cards In jbhifi?

    • +1

      It should be fine.

For in-store transactions at JB Hi-Fi, it doesn't matter whether you have the EFTPOS or Visa versions of one of these gift cards; it will still be processed as an EFTPOS/Visa payment.

Another OzBargainer actually had plenty of success purchasing multiple Apple gift cards using TCN gift cards a couple of weeks ago. However, I've personally had one JB Hi-Fi staff member interrogate me and ask what kind of card I was using to pay for an Apple gift card (and asked me to show the card), so YMMV.

      • Hey @WookieMonster, I have read all your comments and thank you for you work. But can you help me to clarify that can i purchase the gift card for $1000 online through the website and the pay for the purchase online? I just dont understand why other people have to go look for physical card at coles? Thanks

        • +1

The 15% discount only applies to physical gift cards purchased at Coles.

          • @tbone74: oh i see now. Understood. Sorry I was a bit confusing. Thank you!!!

  • Anyone able to confirm whether the Beauty & Spa card can be used for online shopping at Sephora?

    • +2

      https://www.ultimategiftcards.com.au/card/beauty-spa/
Click on "See how you can shop with our partners below" and select online

      • Thanks!

      • Hi @wikiwiki, can we use multiple Beauty and Spa cards to make purchase on Sephora? Its quite confusing on their website.

        • Sorry i'm not sure. i'm not associated with TCN or Sephora so just reading what you're reading.

        • My understanding is that you cannot use multiple Ultimate (Visa) gift cards on the Sephora website, as Sephora does not allow you to do split Visa/Mastercard/AMEX card payments on their website. (I'm actually struggling to think of an online merchant who will let you do that…)

You can exchange the Beauty & Spa gift cards on Ultimate gift card's exchange portal for a Sephora gift card. However, according to Sephora's website, you can only redeem one Sephora gift card (in conjunction with one Visa/Mastercard/AMEX card, including Ultimate gift cards) per online transaction.

  • Would you guys prefer converting all these Ultimate GCs to digital JB ones (if it still works) and then printing it out for in-store use? (benefits: no expiry)

Any chances the Ultimate cards could get hacked if I leave it to 2-3 years?

    • +1

Would you guys prefer converting all these Ultimate GCs to digital JB ones (if it still works) and then printing it out for in-store use?

I prefer leaving it as Ultimate gift cards, as I am happy (and am able) to go in-store to purchase the items I want, plus I only get Ultimate gift cards if I have firm plans to purchase an item from a participating retailer in the next month or so.

Based on reports from others earlier today, purchasing a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card using an Ultimate gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website seems to be still working. I think a lot of people were trying to purchase digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards using Ultimate gift cards at the same time yesterday and JB Hi-Fi noticed and were trying to manually intervene and stop some of these orders.

Any chances the Ultimate cards could get hacked if I leave it to 2-3 years?

      Have a read of this.

The only correction I'd make to that linked comment is that If you are exchanging the [Ultimate Home] gift card for a digital gift card from a participating retailer, the odds of correctly guessing an Ultimate Home gift card (assuming you know the BIN and the string of numbers of identifying the card as a Home gift card) is 1 in 1,000,000,000 because the expiry date for that portal is always 12/29, not the actual expiry date of the gift card.

      • +1

Excellent post, thanks mate. Very helpful.

I only get Ultimate gift cards if I have firm plans to purchase an item from a participating retailer in the next month or so.

Seems like I bought too early :(

  • How do people use multiple gift cards to purchase an item that's greater than $100 online at jb hifi?

      1. Purchase digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards equal to the available balance on an Ultimate Teens/Kids/Home gift card (assuming you have the Visa version, not the older EFTPOS version) through the JB Hi-Fi website. There were some reports late yesterday that JB Hi-Fi were cancelling some orders of digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards paid for using Ultimate gift cards, but it seems to be working today.

      2. Redeem as many digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards as required (in conjunction with one Ultimate gift card, if required) to pay for your $100+ item on the JB Hi-Fi website. You can redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website.

      • +1

Teens ones are not on sale.

        • +1

@WookieMonster was just explaining you can do it using a Teens one (because it has JB on it), not that it's actually on sale :)

        • +5

Teen are on sale. Bought some at 15% off

      • I'm getting a 2000 do not honour code when trying to purchase jb hifi gift cards online…

        • Hmmmm just got an email saying that verification failed and the order was cancelled

          • @lolwut: Did you pay using Apple Pay or by directing inputting the card details into the checkout?

            • @WookieMonster: I don't have apple pay so I put the card details directly into checkout. Is Google pay an option?

              • @lolwut: Sadly, Google Pay and Samsung Pay are not available payment options on the JB Hi-Fi website.

I mention Apple Pay, because JB Hi-Fi may not be able to see that you’re using an Ultimate (Visa) gift card to pay for a JB Hi-Fi gift card if you use Apple Pay as the payment method.

                • @WookieMonster: What's the alternative option

                  • @lolwut:

                    • Purchase a physical JB Hi-Fi gift card from the JB Hi-Fi website. I really doubt this will work, but hey, it’s worth a shot!

                    • Go in-store and purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using the Ultimate gift card.

                    • +1

  • If I walk into JB with 30x $50 Kids cards will they let me buy 3x $500 apple gift cards? I have a feeling that I may have to go on other days and other stores

    • +1

I walked in with 20x$50 and it was fine. Just make sure you prepare ahead of time for them and I did hear stories from the guy that served me that some walked in with 40+ giftards.

      • Even for gift cards? I feel like they’d hesitate and mix it up for JB gift cards which aren’t allowed to be bought.
I know that I can walk in with as many as I want for purchasing products.

        • Nah I even told them I was there to buy Itunes giftcards and they were fine with it. Ask if I was aware of scams and I said I was buying for myself.

  • Hi, tried to use one of these cards for JB Hifi purchase but for the life of me cant work out which is the 18 digit gift card number… there is a 16 digit "card:" and a 19 digit
"PCN". Could someone tell me which is the 18 digit number you can use for check out?

I have used the card at JB but the receipt dont show the which number is used either…..

    Thanks in advance!

    • +1

It sounds like you have the Visa version of the Ultimate gift card.

The Ultimate gift card is a Visa card that can only be used at participating retailers. Since it is a Visa card, you input the 16-digit Visa card number, the CVV2 value and expiry date of 12/29 into the debit/credit card section in JB Hi-Fi's online checkout.

The PCN is not used for any purchases using the gift card; as far as I am aware, it is only used to check the balance of the gift card and for the initial purchase of the gift card at Coles, Woolworths, etc.

      • +1

Thanks heaps for the help! am prep'ed to use the remaining balance next :D

        • +1

I see you're now convinced the expiry date for online purchases is 12/29 :P The balance on your gift card will still expire three years from the date of issue.

          Anyway, happy purchasing!

  • Struggling to find an answer on this and FAQ on the ultimate website isn’t clear - if I purchase 5x$100 gift cards will the exchange be a 1x$500 e-gift card at the retailer? Eg sephora. Sephora has stated only one gift card can be redeemed online.

    • If you have the Visa version of the Ultimate gift card and you go to the exchange portal, you will only be given the option to exchange one Ultimate gift card at a time. For example, if you purchase 5x $100 Ultimate Beauty & Spa gift cards, you'll only be able to exchange for 5x $100 Sephora gift cards.

If you want to combine 5x $100 Sephora gift cards into 1x $500 Sephora gift card, you will need to reach out to Sephora to see whether they will let you do that, as that is something Ultimate gift cards cannot do for you.

If you go in-store to Sephora (assuming you're fortunate enough to live near one), you may be able to purchase 1x $500 Sephora gift card by using 5x $100 Ultimate gift cards. It will depend on whether Sephora's stores will let you use multiple cards to pay for goods in-store.

I also wonder if you could exchange 1x $100 Ultimate gift card for 1x $100 Sephora gift card, then go to the Sephora website and purchase 1x $200 Sephora gift card using 1x $100 Sephora gift card and 1x $100 Ultimate gift card…

  • Purchased a bunch of $30 Ultimate Teen gift cards as they were the only ones left for a JB discount and are also included in the 15% discount.

They look to be a different design with the card hanging out the outside compared to the Ultimate Kids which has the card hidden inside the packaging.

Hopefully JB will be fine with someone using 20 $30 cards at once. Would have liked a higher denomination but it was the only thing left.

  • My closest Coles only had the eftpos $100
    and the $50 visa style.

Used some at JB yesterday- was nice to get extra discount on top of already discounted items :)

  • Thanks OP, managed to find 5 after going to the further Coles. You’ve helped sort out savings for my sibling’s graduation present!

  • -6

If the Ultimate gift cards are from non-Coles store, would they activate if they are paid at Coles' checkout? Anyone tried this?

    • Using this logic you might as well steal the item your intending to buy… SMH

    • -2

Legit qn, also wondering this, which I would absolutely do IF I was despo and NOT get a single card during the sales. It is technically not stealing if the card itself has no value until otherwise paid for and activated at register 🤷‍♂️

      • +2

During the first 15% off sale, TCN has blocked all purchased cards that is not from Coles. You have been warned.

  • Don’t do what I did and buy the wrong card. The $100 home gift card with ‘home’ on the bottom is not on special. Even though it’s the exact same thing.
Coles refusing to refund too. My fault for not checking the transaction.

    • TCN?

    • How did you not notice that you were charged full amount? So many people have been caught out by this.

      • 2 loud kids in the trolley and the fact I bought other items as well. I should have noticed still.
If you get the right person coles can actually refund it. Just a matter of getting that right person.

        • Don't think these gc can be refunded unfortunately

        • -4

there is no such thing, that ignorant person just make the store absorb the loss for YOUR mistake. The fund in the card can't be cancelled and refunded to the store once it is activated.

You will have to just own your mistake, you still have $500 value that you paid for to use.

          • +1

@samehada: Coles refunded $200 worth for me. I was happy enough to own my mistake if they said no.
Saying that it’s the same gift card. Just the picture on it is different?
In my opinion it’s false advertising to have two identical products with only packaging being slightly different and having one on sale.

  • Hi guys, I was able to grab some cards at Coles Wetherill park Stocklands NSW. And there were heaps of it left. Hope this will help someone here!

  • Had to visit 4 stores to get $700 worth of cards for new Ipad for the little one. Could only find $50 versions.

Oddly, when i went to purchase the girl putting them through didnt even need to use the pin. She just selected credit and ok and didnt need to input the pin. Maybe because they were under $100? Who knows. Glad i didnt bother trying to buy 5k worth for a new tv on the last round? Would have been impossible to find $100 denominations.

Was at Westfield Doncaster (VIC) earlier tonight. Surprisingly, had stock of all denominations and types including $100 Home.

  • Anyone else having trouble adding their ultimate gc to Apple Pay? I keep getting the Could Not Add Card message.

    • Two questions:

      • Does the card number start with 457824 or 502125?
      • Are you using 12/29 as the card expiry date?
      • Yea all 4 start with 457824, and I did put 12/29. I don't have an iPhone so was trying on my iPad, and it's updated to the latest OS.

      • I’m having the same issue too!
My one starts with 457824 and I used 12/29 as expiry. It asked for the name so I’m presuming that’d be incorrect

        • Interesting. Mine works, I just add "Ultimate GC 1/2/3….." for the name and it works (even my own name works). 12/29 expiry

    • About 8 hours ago I tried adding $100 HOME ultimate to Apple Pay, first one works wonders (I put HOME as Name, 12/29 as expiry, and the corresponding CVV).
When I tried to add second card, it was never successful whichever NAME I used, considering that looks to be the only variant not specified by the card itself. I put the same expiry 12/29 too.
So in the end I gave up and removed the successful card altogether… and used it to buy JB GC in-store by manually swiping at their EFT machines…

My phone is iPhone 12 Mini with iOS14

    • Same issue, first card added successfully the other day.

Tried 2 more today, neither worked.

    • Yeah I tried adding 3 and none of them worked

    • I've not been able to add cards this afternoon.

  • Just a warning for anyone buying these cards. Make sure cards and receipt matches. Purchased 5 $100 ones but 1 of them didn't work. I had to call the card company and they told me it wasn't activated and asked me have it reactivated at Coles. Found out that last 3 digits of the card should be reflecting on the receipt. One of them didn't match. Totally different numbers. I was told that there's no way they shouldn't match if purchased right. I got a feeling that the staff who served me switched my activated one to an unpaid one. Could be wrong though. Coles said they'll investigate.

    • +1

I heard people bought multiple Apple GCs in the past months suffered the same problem, highly likely one of those cards being switched.

      • I actually rang the manager and told him what happened and it almost felt like he knew it's been ongoing. Told him that if he can't help me then I'll escalate. He paused for a bit then told me that customer care can help

    • Same thing Happened with me as well. Tried to buy 2*100 home cards, i was told that one was not scanning, went to shelf and exchange with other one. Got 2 cards and came back in the car. As i had feeling that something was not right. I matched last 3 digits of the card and receipt but one of them didn’t match. I rush to shop immediately and got same card(shop assistant told me the one not scanned) which i put separately in the shelf. Thank god, nobody took that scanned card as it took me altogether 10-15 minutes.

Are there any $100 of these cards or are they all $50?
Can you change them online to use @ JB? so you dont have to give them a heap of these over the counter?

    • +2

Are there any $100 of these cards or are they all $50?

Ultimate gift cards are sold in $30, $50 or $100 denominations at Coles, but not all gift cards are sold in those denominations. I vaguely remember seeing the following Ultimate gift cards sold in $50 and $100 denominations at Coles:

      • Her
      • Him
      • Style

The Teens and Kids gift cards (which can also be redeemed at JB Hi-Fi) are not sold in $100 denominations.

Can you change them online to use @ JB?

Officially speaking, no. JB Hi-Fi head office issued a directive late last year to all staff to stop customers from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards. I’m not sure why they care, but they care. Maybe they have concerns about money laundering or fraud or something? I’m not sure…

Anyway, some OzBargainers had success purchasing digital or physical JB Hi-Fi gift cards through the JB Hi-Fi website by inputting the card details directly in the checkout or through Apple Pay, and others had their orders cancelled, so YMMV. Of course, that assumes you have the Visa version of the Ultimate gift cards. If you have the older EFTPOS version of the Ultimate gift cards, no online purchases are possible.

so you dont have to give them a heap of these over the counter?

What’s the issue with doing that? Staff will most likely not care about you walking into a store with a fat stack of gift cards, as long as you go during a quieter time, you remove all the gift cards from the packaging and you scratch to reveal all PINs. I mean, someone recently redeemed 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards at JB Hi-Fi and the staff were fine with it.

  • The Ultimate card exchange page is only showing 3 retailers when I enter the card details, and none of which are JB.
I was able to purchase JB gift cards on the JB site using my two $100 cards but the transactions for my two $50 cards got cancelled.

    What a headache.

Not sure how to resolve this as I want to make my pixel 6 purchase using PayPal for the balance.

    • Do you have access to Apple Pay? If so, you may be able to get away with purchasing JB Hi-Fi gift cards using Apple Pay, as these Ultimate gift cards can be added to Apple Pay (assuming you don't fact any issues some other people seem to be facing at the moment).

If not, the only two other options are:

      • Keep trying purchasing physical or digital gift cards from the JB Hi-Fi website on another day and hope JB Hi-Fi don't cancel your order, or

      • Travel over to the nearest JB Hi-Fi store to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card (which kinda defeats the point of trying to buy the Pixel online in the first place).

Keep in mind that JB Hi-Fi officially do not allow the purchase of JB Hi-Fi gift cards using Ultimate or TCN gift cards, so don't expect too much help from JB Hi-Fi themselves.

      • +1

        No Apple pay here unfortunately.
I'm about to head in store and see what they can do.

      • +1

They couldn't help with the Ultimates as expected so ended up paying over the counter so I could use them up.

    • What happened when they cancel your order? Does the money go back to the Ultimate card?

      • +1

They were never deducted from my experience. I can convert them slowly for the convinience of paying online.

        • Ok great. Cheers. I just ordered a few physical ones so hopefully they don't get cancelled. They're all showing as despatched

  • None left at Coles World Square, Sydney CBD

  • Seems a bit less crazy to find than the previous TCN ones right at Black Friday period?

Didn't get enough savings at all last time looking for them.

Edit, there's Visa and eftpos versions from the same brand?

    • Seems a bit less crazy to find than the previous TCN ones right at Black Friday period?

I tend to agree, because a lot of people think the Teens gift card is not eligible for this promotion, even though it is!

There's Visa and eftpos versions from the same brand?

      Yep.

The card on the left is the EFTPOS version. It is being phased out, but some Coles supermarkets still stock them. They have a relatively small number of participating retailers, as these gift cards can only be redeemed in-store.

The card on the right is the Visa version. The Visa gift cards are the newer gift cards, and they have a lot more participating retailers.

  • not able add to apple pay …..

  • Kellyville village has restocked,

Quite a lot of kids which include JB hifi

  • +1

can i pay $500 using gift card at jb, and then the remaining $100 with my credit card? Couldn't find anymore cards :(

    • Yez

    • Better buy a gc from shopback or cashrewards instead of credit card

  • Can you use 20 x $50 gc at jbhifi at once ?

    • +1

same question has been asked many times above, and seems like the answer is yes - you just need to go at a quieter time and scratch all pins off the card so staff arent doing their heads in trying to scratch your cards. Make life easier for them and they'll be happy to serve you :)

      • +4

Exactly, agreed. I went today when there was only like 5 people in the store and staff was very nice and was glad to take my 24x $50 cards and use that to pay for the apple gift cards I bought. They asked if I scratched the pin on the card and I did. If people go at busier times Unprepared with pin not scratched and packaging not removed then they’ll be more likely to enforce a limit in future

        • Store I went (Vic Gardens) to decided to not allow gift cards for apple gift cards. They're a newer store so probably didn't read the policy right.

          • @nugstar: Go to another store and they will do it for you

            • @jayboi: Cheers, another store did it no questions asked. Guess it depends on the manager

    • +1

I used 22 gift cards, except 4 all $30, and had no issues paying for my item @jb hi-fi today.
There was nobody at the checkout, pins were scratched already and I was trying to be nice and saying I wanted to pay with gift cards.
It all went smooth. Then it suddenly got busier, and even then she asked in a very calm way for assistance at checkout because she was "doing gift cards".
I thanked the lady again when I left, all smiles.
Paying was sorted in +-5 minutes.

  • Has anyone successfully used the Kids ones at JB HiFi online? The card packaging says they cannot be used online. (The Home ones do not say that - and I have successfully used them to buy JB gift cards online.)

    • +4

If you have the Visa version of the Ultimate Kids, Teens or Home gift card, it can be used online at JB Hi-Fi.

If you have the EFTPOS version of the Ultimate Kids, Teens or Home gift card, it cannot be used online at JB Hi-Fi.

It sounds like you have the EFTPOS version of the Ultimate Kids gift card. Other indications are:

      • The card number starts with 502125.
      • There is no CVV2 value printed on the back of the card next to the PIN.
      • Logos of participating retailers is printed on the front of the gift card.

If you want to use this gift card online at JB Hi-Fi, you must go into a JB Hi-Fi store and purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using the Ultimate Kids (EFTPOS) gift card. However you cannot tell staff your payment method is an Ultimate gift card, otherwise they’ll refuse to sell you the JB Hi-Fi gift card.

      • +1

Great. Thanks for the info. Pretty sure they are the visa version. My Coles had plenty of them but none of the Home. Will double check numbers before purchase.

        • Bugger. Bought the Kids version (4 x $50) at Coles and used those to buy 4 x $50 JB HiFi gift vouchers on their site. All orders were cancelled pretty much immediately after the order was confirmed. Late last night I converted 2 x $50 ultimate Home vouchers to JB gift cards. Then another 2 in the early hours of this morning. Had no issues with those. Bought 2 x the UE Ultimate Boom 2 in this post. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670264. So what to do now? Convert these ultimate cards to Google Pay and buy JB vouchers in store? Is it worth setting up a JB account for my wife and give it a go using the ultimate vouchers to buy JB vouchers there - or would that also likely be cancelled?

          • +1

@belbo: All sorted. Just went in store (to pick up the 2x Ultimate Boom I bought online this morning) and asked if they could do the 10% coupon code on the Google Home Hub Max over the counter - and if I could pay with the gift cards - which they were happy to do. They wanted me to show them the code though - even though they knew it when they saw it. Great deals - thanks so much to the JB HiFi coupon code and the ultimate gift card OP's.

  • Has anybody successfully used the JB HiFi coupon codes in this post (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670150) more than once online - on the same logged in account? The conditions say they can only be used once each.

    • Yes, I've made multiple orders on the same account with the same code.

      • Cool. Thanks for confirming.

  • Cant find any gc at coles. Staff just said no more stocks, didn't even try to look.

    • Just keep checking. They have restocked my Coles

      • Thanks. I checked again today still nothing. It's ok. Just not meant to be.

    • Keep checking coles are restock them now.

  • +2

Just wanna say thanks to WookieMonster, your comments have been so helpful, esp as someone who has never used these GCs before. Wasn't planning on using them instore but was able to use 4x100 at JB Hi Fi today (thought I would get issues trying to price match instore, but it worked out) and apologised to the lady when redeeming and she said, "oh this is nothing, we get customers coming in with literal stacks of GCs all the time". She didn't care, it was fine.

Tried paying for the GC at the self serve with a coles GC but no dice haha. An alert came up and a staff member told me I had to use a different payment method. But it kinda looked like that alert could be overridden? I dunno, I don't work at coles. Was worth a shot lol.

    • +2

Yeah props to WookieMonster. I got $2500 worth of these and bought apple gift cards with them at jbhifi to buy a 14 inch MacBook Pro from the AOC store. Staff had no issues at all as I went at quiet times

      • Did you just bring the Apple gift cards to the counter and told the staff you were paying with ultimate gift cards?

Or did you save the ultimate gift cards to your Apple Pay and paid without telling the staff?

I have 3 ultimate gift cards (visa types) and want to buy $300 worth of Apple gift cards from JB.

        • +2

I just went up to the counter and the staff were fine with me paying with the cards.

    • +1

No worries, I'm glad you were able to save a few dollars!

thought I would get issues trying to price match instore

JB Hi-Fi are usually pretty good at price matching competitors, as long as the item is in stock nearby at or available for delivery from an Australian retailer, it doesn't require any coupon codes or cashback offers or trade-ins, etc.

Tried paying for the GC at the self serve with a coles GC but no dice haha.

Yeah, that happens at some Coles supermarkets, but apparently not all Coles supermarkets. I doubt you would get a staff member to override that error message, because it is against the gift card's terms of use to use Coles gift cards to pay for any gift cards at Coles, so staff would likely be trained to refuse your request to use Coles gift cards as a payment method for gift cards. Even if you convinced a staff member to try and override that error message at a self-service checkout, I don't think it is possible for the staff member to actually override it.

      • +1

Ah the price match was at way below cost price so that's why I was anticipating trouble in store. Trawled through some threads in the forums here saying JB can get picky about what they price match, unlike OW, who don't care.

Good point about the Coles GC.

  • Just rang up JBHIFI to price match a Logitech G Pro X Gaming headset and the CS Rep said they would; but when I asked if I can pay it with a gift card, he said they will only accept an exclusive JBHIFI gift card not a multi-stores gift.

    • +1

Did you call the general phone line or a specific store?
If you called the general sales line then you can’t use it as these cards are for in store use only

      • I called the "Seen it cheaper?" number. And also, we went into their Chermside shopping centre store just a while ago and they won't price match it (but would probably accept the gift card as you've stated).

So I guess you can only have one or the other, but not both.

        • +1

Yea you can, don’t even mention paying with gift cards at first and just go to another store and they’d be more than happy to match. You only mention gift cards at checkout

  • Surprised there is still heaps of the $100 Home GCs at Westfield Doncaster

The Teens Gifts card are also on sale for 15% off at Coles

  • What’s the limit on the home version at The good guys on one item?

    • Someone recently used 20x TCN HOME gift cards at TGG to purchase a TGG gift card, so the limit for the number of TCN/Ultimate gift cards you can use in transaction is at least 20 (and it is actually probably unlimited, just like JB Hi-Fi).

  • Just witnessed a lady purchase $5000 worth by splitting into multiple transactions. All $100 cards too

  • I had 4 different Coles along the way to The Good Guys. Stopped at each for 5*$50 Home GC.

Took a while to process at checkout, but now I am proud owner of a 3.5kW AC for just a little over $800. Thanks OP!

I know, installation will be ~$600 back-to-back. Nothing much I can do about that, I fear. Unless I can convince the guy to re-use an existing circuit and knock $100 off the quoted price. Doubt he'll go for it.

  • How exactly does this work for JBHIFI? I bought the new visa Home gift cards, https://exchangeyourcard.com.au/Choose only shows Iconic, BBQ Galore, and Dusk??

I also tried directly using it on JBHIFI's website, but neither the "Card:" nor the "PCN:" are exactly 18 digits, which the website wants.

    • +4

You cannot exchange any Ultimate gift cards for digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards through the Ultimate exchange portal anymore. It was possible to do that around three weeks ago, but it looks like JB Hi-Fi left the gift card exchange program in anticipation of this deal…

      You have four options:

      • If the cost of the order you want to place on the JB Hi-Fi website is equal to or less than the available balance on one Ultimate gift card, you can simply input the details of the Ultimate gift card (i.e. card number, CVV2, the expiry date of 12/29) at the online checkout.

      • Purchase digital or physical JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website by using the details of the Ultimate gift card at the online checkout. However, I cannot tell you whether or not this will work for you, as JB Hi-Fi has been cancelling some online gift card orders paid for using Ultimate gift cards. JB Hi-Fi head office issued a directive to all stores late last year to stop customers from using TCN or Ultimate gift cards to pay for JB Hi-Fi gift cards, so it is unsurprising JB Hi-Fi may cancel any gift card orders you place on the JB Hi-Fi website paid for with Ultimate gift cards.

      • Add Ultimate gift cards to Apple Pay and then use Apple Pay to purchase digital or physical JB Hi-Fi gift cards. I haven’t heard any reports of gift card orders paid for using Apple Pay being cancelled, but there’s a chance JB Hi-Fi will catch wind of this and try to cancel gift card orders paid for using Apple Pay (or even remove Apple Pay as a payment option for gift cards on their website).

      • Use the Ultimate gift card in-store at JB Hi-Fi (assuming you live near a JB Hi-Fi store). You can use as many Ultimate gift cards as you want to pay for items at JB Hi-Fi1, but if you’re going to be using more than a couple of Ultimate gift cards in one transaction, my suggestion is that you remove all cards from their packaging and scratch the panel on the back of the gift card to reveal PINs before you go to the store. Processing more than a couple of Ultimate (or TCN) gift cards will take time and will effectively close down one checkout for a few minutes, so do the staff a favour and go to the store prepared. My concern is that if too many OzBarginers go to JB Hi-Fi with fistfuls of TCN or Ultimate gift cards that haven’t been “prepared”, staff will complain to head office and JB Hi-Fi will start imposing limits again, or staff may simply refuse to serve such customers.

      1. The only exception to this is the purchase of JB Hi-Fi gift cards, as nearly all staff will stop you if they notice you are using a TCN or Ultimate gift card to pay for a JB Hi-Fi gift card. If you want to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card in store using your Ultimate gift cards, you’ll need to be discreet. I think it would help if you added the Ultimate gift cards to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay first, as it means that staff are less suspect of you than if you swiped a card on the EFTPOS terminal. I mean, how often do you see someone swipe a card on an EFTPOS terminal these days?

      • Thanks for your help once again. So buying a gift card and choosing e-mail delivery on JBHIFI website is not an instant, automated thing?

        • +1

It usually isn’t instant. I think it can take up to three hours for a gift card to be delivered, but it seems to around 20-30 minutes before your card is actually charged and the gift card is sent to you.

          • @WookieMonster: do you know if this ~3hrs still holds on weekends (esp at nights like now)?

            • +1

@xrailgun: It works 24/7, but even if you place an order now (after operating hours), you’ll need to wait a few minutes before you receive the gift card.

The fact that some orders are being cancelled hints at the following:

              • Someone (or some people) at JB Hi-Fi are manually reviewing some gift card orders on their website and are cancelling orders paid for with Ultimate gift cards, and/or

              • Some people are ordering multiple gift cards using different cards in a short period of time to the same email address or billing address, which means they are highly likely to trip JB Hi-Fi’s fraud detection system.

If you only order one or two or three JB Hi-Fi gift cards now or within the next couple of hours, you’ll likely be fine, but I don’t work at JB Hi-Fi (and never have), so I don’t know how their setup actually works.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks. Probably too late for me to convert for the 5% off deal, might just accumulate more 15% GCs and go in-store.

      • -1

When I paid with my GCs at TGG I walked in with freshly bought GCs still in their paper wrapping. And still, the slowest was the EFTPOS machine authenticating each. Between me and the lady at checkout we had them all unwrapped and scratched by the time the first 4 or 5 were processed. It felt long, but I doubt it took longer than 5 minutes all up.

        • Yeah good point, I used two Ultimate Home gift cards about a month ago at TGG and I swear I could have “prepared” five or six gift cards whilst I was waiting for their stupid EFTPOS machine to process payments. I think the Ingenico EFTPOS machines at JB Hi-Fi are quite a bit faster than the ones at TGG, which is why I think you’d have less of an opportunity to “prepare” cards when you’re at JB Hi-Fi.

  • Does anyone know how to use a portion on the Ultimate Eats gift card through say Deliveroo or Menulog?
Ie - I purchased a $50 gift card, ordered $31 odd of food using Deliveroo - at checkout for the order I used it as a card payment, now I have $19 odd remaining, on my next order I can't select split payment and only use $19 of the gift card and pay the remaining on another card. It just declines as the next order is over $19 for example.
Found a number on the Ultimate Eats website, the person also didn't know the answer.
Is there a way to load the value on instead as a credit?
    Thanks!

    • Split payments is rarely (if ever) possible for online or in-app purchases.

Can you go to the exchange portal and get a $19 Deliveroo gift card? If you can do that, the next question is whether you can use multiple gift cards to pay for something on Deliveroo (and I don’t know the answer!).

      • +1

Looks like i should have done this before using it.
When go through the above, it states 'you have xxx remaining unfortunately we don't have any partners to redeem with', then behind it has a logo of Deliveroo and Menulog…
Seems like I'll just hold the value and it in store at Nandos, or Boost or something.
Silly though - they should have this printed on them somewhere explain to exchange the whole value at once.

        • yeah i had this problem with doordash $100 gift card

I thought I could use it up on more than 1 account or split it up.

used it once… account got banned then had to get them to unban it to use the remaining $90.

once its added to an account you cannot use half of it somewhere else or diffferent account.

          • @AussieMark: So annoying! I'll know for next time I suppose!

            • @ezza: Too many bloody gotchas with these cards. Good to know some of them now and be forewarned for future gift card purchases. Was going to buy a few more than needed for immediate purchases but hardly seems worth it especially given most T&C"s can change at any time - including which stores are participating!

              • @belbo: Best to burn what you have now..

Thanks WookieMonster and everyone for your tips and tricks on these Ultimate GCs. First time buying the Ultimate GCs so I was slightly nervous but I got there in the end! One Coles member didn't like that I wanted to purchase more than five in two transactions at the self serve check out. They tried to stop me from buying them completely. I told them that I was allowed to buy five and they reluctantly let me buy them. I left the store and went back in and purchased another five and paid for them at the register. It's a much easier process to do it via register than self serve. The self serve check out gives a prompt as soon as it scan the second or third card for the attendant to come. With the exception of this attendant on my first buy, the other Coles members were happy for me to purchase them.

With regards to using the Ultimate GCs at JB Hifi, I followed the tips here and the JB Hifi staff were grateful that all the GCs were peel off, sorted and PINs were ready to go. The staff member shared with me that it helps if you go at a quieter time so avoid lunch time, after school, before close and Sundays! They also shared that they had one customer who bought a $3K TV with just $30 GCs so it's business as usual for them. Oh, expect a super long receipt if you're using multiple cards! Thanks again everyone!

  • Is there a limit on how many TCN cards can be added to Apple Wallet?

I was only able to add 4 cards with expired 12/29 as instructed. Tried the following day and no luck.

    • Could be max five? I know Amex is max five on GPay

      • Got it, thanks. I had the following message after adding 4 TCN cards around 1 pm yesterday:

"Your Issuer Does Not Yet Offer Support for This Card
Learn more about currently supported cards or ask your issuer if they offer cards that support Apple Pay."

I tried again this morning and I was getting the same msg.

I am able to add 5 TCN cards at around 1:30pm today. After that, I got the above-mentioned message. Guess I will try to add again after 24hrs.

        • did you manage to add more cards by any chance? Trying to do the same thing now.

          • @geshc: Yes, able to add 5 cards per day before it shows the message
