  • Pretty good deal - would stack well with the recent[ish] discounted (15% off) TCN [JB Hi-FI] gift cards!

    • Might be a dumb question but how do you get the Tcn gift cards

      • If you had collected it back then…
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/664735

      • If you don’t want to build a time machine to take you back to Nov 2021, you may need to wait until Black Friday this year for the next 15% off TCN gift card deal at Coles. Black Friday 2020 and 2021 saw 15% off TCN gift card deals at Coles, and I have a feeling that will continue this year.

Ultimate gift cards also offered 15% off all their gift cards at Coles in Dec 2021 (which I think is a first), and that is a competing brand to the TCN gift cards. Again, you’d need a time machine for that deal too.

TCN and Ultimate gift cards may also be sold at a 10% discount a couple of times this year at Coles or Woolworths, and TCN also occasionally sell their gift cards at a 10% discount through their own website too (but I think they enforce a one transaction limit of $100 or $1000 per person and they slug you processing or delivery fees, so it eats away at the discount and you’d be struggling to get enough gift cards to pay for a MacBook Pro).

Cheaper if you buy from Apple Education Centre even with the discount.

    Wait for the free airpods

It should be any day now.

      • Yeah exactly

      • +6

If it's to align to last year's sale - it should be tomorrow. (7th of Jan 2021 = Thursday).

    • Isn't this still a students only thing or is it same as the education store kinda idea that you can change it?

      • Tbh I'm not sure maybe someone will give you an answer. If not wait until 7th of January and most likely by then the deal will be out(since last time the deal was from 7th of Jan to march).

    • Any idea if the AirPods worked with AOC Education Store last year?

New MacBooks are ~12.5% discounted on AOC Education store vs 8.8% via regular Education store.

    • No Airpods for pro models with M1 pro & max.
90% of students out there don't need anything higher than Air or M1 Mac pro.
So it's likely that it would be exclusive to base M1 models.

      • You're right, Airpods Max for Pro Models

    • Its out tomorrow, 6/01/22, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/676105

I've had an order in for the 16" M1 Max since 29 October… Paid in full. Still no ETA.

    • I paid in full for a 14” MBP from JB on Black Friday last year. They told me they have zero stock in QLD until the end of January.

    • Ouch. I paid for a specced out 14 Pro (non Max) in early December and just got it in Jan and I thought that was long.

You shouldn't have got it paid in full though? They only charge you when the item is delivered. Mine was "paid" but they never charged my credit card until it was dispatched.

      • Via The Good Guys. I understand it's more an Apple issue than them but yeah - not thrilled that they charged in full so far beforehand

        • Ah that makes sense. I bought mine from Apple directly and they thankfully only charged it when they sent it out. Hope it gets to you soon mate, my M1 Pro 14" is a killer machine.

    • +1

      I've got a 16" MBP M1 base model with 1TB SSD.

Picked it up from an Apple store. Was really lucky as it was the only one in Australia at the time. Bought it via AOC AU Australian Education Union Store and paid for it with Apple gift cards purchased with Woolworths reward points. I paid for GC with my CC so got rewards points there as well.

It's an amazing machine. The best laptop I've ever had! Nothing comes even remotely close to it. My first Apple laptop ever.

  • Thanks, being eyeing this, I pulled the trigger and got the 1TB version.

    • Hope you went to office works it's the only one still cheaper at jb so price beat would work

      • All the Sydney stores show OOS for 14"/16GB/1TB models. May have to call the hotline and see if they can help with a price beat.

        • Get in fast I was going to but can't justify spending that much on one

      • Last month, Office works pricematched JB hi-fi pretty quickly but they both went out of stock fast.

Then JB Hi-Fi upped the price, then office works followed, then JB reduced the price again and office works followed, all the while having no stock. It was ridiculous.

In the end it's not worth the extra discount.

        • seems like there isnt any stock of really anything anywhere. I was planning on just getting a 512GB air on the next 10% off runs but barely any stock around anyway.. wanting to use my JB discounted giftcards. At this rate i may end up getting a new pro 512GB delivered from office works

          • +1

@quikstix: JB came through, I collect it tomorrow.

    • +1

      UPDATE:

JB hifi website said "in stock", I received my click and collect SMS the next day, and went and picked it up!

      That easy.

THANK YOU OP and THANK YOU JB HIFI FOR HAVING STOCK!!!

If you read around you'll hear of sites taking the money and backordering macbooks, leaving consumers waiting months sometimes.

My recommendation is, if this lists as "in stock" at JB HIFI, and is on special, get it.

I'm critical of officeworks doing this pricematch minus 5% thing when they have no stock themselves.

      • Might be helpful for others what spec you were able to get hold of. Even at launch, each store had different SKUs and whilst I paid in one store, I had to go collect it at the store a few suburbs over.

        • +1

MBP, 14 inch, 1TB ssd, space grey.

But I would say what is shown as "in stock" on the website, is infact in stock but are selling fast.

          • +1

@bjt: Nice! (same spec as me)

    This or rapid antigen kit?

      Toilet paper

      • +1

I still have my TP wall from last round .

    • If you manage to score a RAT, you could pay for this with it.

  • this or M2?

    • Apparently there will be a cheaper macbook, likely to replace the 13"

  • Officeworks website shows no stock of any Macbook Pro 16" models… will they price beat?

    • Last time having no stock didn't stop them updating the website with the reduced price.

    • +5

There are plenty of PC laptops in that price range too.

    • yeah should b 2700

    • Great for employees, it's tax deductible anyway and laptops are cheap as chips for businesses. Macbook pros have always been targetting those people, the professionals

  • +2

Apple Stores will price match JB, if there’s a JB in the same shopping centre. So Chatswood Chase and Hornsby in Sydney, come to mind. I think there’s JB and Apple at Broadway too.

I’ve done this at Chatswood before.

That might help if there’s no stock at JB.
Stack nicely if you have some Apple gift cards from the previous Coles and Woollies deals.

    • … or the current Coles deal.

    • Is it easy to use the Apple gift cards in a retail Apple store if you've already applied the balance to your Apple ID?

I tried to do this at Hornsby when buying Applecare+ (coincidentally for a 14" MBP) and the staff member seemed a bit confused/challenged by how to do this… luckily for me there was a credit card 5% rebate promotion so I just used that instead.

      • +2

You cannot use your Apple ID balance to pay for any items at a physical Apple store. That’s in the terms and conditions of the Apple gift card (and Apple ID balance), so I’m not surprised that the staff member had problems trying to use your Apple ID balance as a payment method.

If you have the Apple gift cards and you have not added them to your Apple ID balance, you shouldn’t have any issues… although having said that, I’m not sure what the maximum number of Apple gift cards you can redeem in one transaction at a physical Apple Store.

  • Any limitations or issues with using gift cards (eg. Shopback @ 3% cashback) for the full amount when ordering online? Thought I read somewhere there's a limit at JB with gift cards for online orders? Looking to get the base model 14".

  • Does the discount apply only to listed models or is it possible get further customisations? Would prefer a 32GB unified memory model.

    • The email I received says it excludes Apple Build To Order, which to me sounds like the 10% off deal is only for non-customised models.

  • That’s quite a good deal.

  • +1

Purchased 14" model with price beat from officeworks no stock currently but will get delivered to the store in a couple of days.

  • +2

Honestly I'm surprised how much attention this 10% off deal is getting given even shortly after launch, you could easily get JB Hifi to price match Apple Education pricing which was close to 10% off (they wouldn't match AOC for me) and then used discounted gift cards to pay the $3374 (I got the 1TB 14" model).

On another note, Amazon AU still has 4 left at $3374 (10% off) with delivery to Sydney by Saturday this week.

(edit: I tried to post the link but the comment got auto deleted)

I bought mine from apple store, 14base model is great, but keyboard is so easy get finger prints. The important thing is some software are not working, so decided to return back tomorrow

  • 16 or 14 inch? im mostly a desktop user but figured laptop is the way to go since i might be travelling soon..

    • 14 inch is nice and compact.

    • If you don't mind the extra size when you do have to travel, the 16" has slightly longer battery life and thermal headroom, due to the size difference.

Based on comparison done here https://youtu.be/vXees3YOjEQ

    • I have the sixteen. I love it to bits. But mines nearly always at my desk. If it’s not your main machine or you dock it , get the 14.

  • Can anyone help with the 5% Officeworks price beat scenario?
Basically - there is no JB Hifi stock in SA..and no Officeworks stock in SA..
Could Officeworks price beat and I pick up when stock arrives? I’ve seen someone above do this, but it seemingly goes against the rules ie. stock in store is needed.

    • +1

Try calling OW and pricebeat based on online price and they can usually help arrange click and collect or post

Getting Macbook Air 16GB/1TB as I love the design and how portable this machine is after trying mbp 14 base model. It’s too bulky and probably won’t need the power for the next 4-5 years. If Apple come up with entry level m2, might be upgrading then.

The only issue with mba is single external display support - a workaround using DisplayLink is a pain since drivers are hit and miss + no night shift support which should be fixed with m2. Well, gotta bite the bullet since I need a machine soon.

Got a MBA 16GB/1TB and can attest to its sexual brilliance

Looks like Apples updating the education store

  • +1

Hi guys, does anyone know if there may be similar deals coming up for MacBook Air anytime soon?

  • Mmmmm

  • +1

Hooray, they finally have stock. Combined this with gift cards and saved around $600-700.

  • can you spec it up? or is it just the base model?

  • Anyone ordered from TGG back in November, and still waiting for the shipment?

    • +1

      yep…

      • Thank you for your reply. Did they tell you anything about expected delivery date? The store where I purchased refused to tell me about expected delivery date but online store said that they should get stock around end of Feb.

        • No, they said they didn't have any visibility of ETA unfortunately. Should have price matched at Apple store I guess…

          • @farethewell: @farethewell, just fyi, when I regularly checked tgg stock, I saw that one of the stores had my purchased 16“ laptop in their stock. After verifying the availability in stock, I talked with tgg representative and asked them to send me my purchased laptop from that store. It has been shipped and I am waiting for my order.

If they have not arranged you a laptop, I would encourage you to do the same asap. It seems that they have a very limited stock in few stores accross Australia. If they fail to get a new stock and current one is gone, you might have to wait too long to get your laptop.

I hope it will help you.

            • @Arsenal147: thanks for your suggestion! how did you manage to find the store that had it in stock though?

              • @farethewell: Open tgg page of the product you purchased and check "check stock/delievery cost". If you cannot find anything in stock in nearby tgg (post code that you selected), chage to other postcode (even in other states). If you find available stock, call that tgg and verify if it is still there. If yes, call your store where you purchased and ask them to send that product from that store. For example, if you purchased Apple MacBook Pro 16" with M1 Pro chip 1TB SSD Space Grey, they have got stock in "Albury" store.

Unfortunately, tgg is poor with stock managment and fulfilling the orders that are already in place for long time. They do not care and you have to be the one who has to chase up to get your order. I am really disappointed with tgg.

                • @Arsenal147: yeah, I tried doing that but no stock anywhere I checked. however I got it delivered today - finally
