Hey everyone, I'm new to you know, closely following fuel prices etc but with the recent events, I've taken an interest in understanding how the market work.

Please correct me if what I'm saying is not correct.

Does someone know what is the average terminal gate price? Is it another term to refer to the wholesale price or is it different?

    Any insights is much appreciated

    • +3

I think there a few different terminal gates across the country and they get averaged. It’s effectively the wholesale price.

I linked to a couple of articles here that might help you out.

      • Thanks, I'll have a read

  • locked 91 since it's nearly at parity with terminal price. But we bottom yet? 🤔

    • E10/91 is normally 4-5c cheaper than TGP according to projectzerothree trends graph (eyeballing it)

If TGP is stable we should see 157cpl for e10/91

    • cheapest 711 for 91 in Perth tomorrow is Bentley which drops 4 cents from today's price of 1.659, but cheapest price in Perth overall is 1.528. it's always a guessing game, but my guess is we're not quite there yet.

      • hi - whats the suburb name for 1.528? Ta

        • That price was a week ago.

        • Banksia Grove is the cheapest at the moment

          • @sharka: That's not what they asked though.

            • @jv: Agreed but is the most relevant location for their current predicament.
Unless their chopper also time travels

    • +2

ACCC fuelcheck says it's still on the way down, so I"m still waiting to fill.

  • I'm still on the tank I filled @ 1.349, only used half as I don't travel far to work.

    • -1

      I travel 2 rooms away.

      • +1

Do you travel back at lunch time?

        • +1

          I have lunch delivered

  • Gerry Harvey was right. You guys ARE "professionals"!

  • Hey guys. Probably a really silly question but i am just new to this. Once i have the fuel price locked, do i just fill up then let them know i have a fuel price lock? Does the price ever get questioned or refused?
    Thanks.

    • +1

Once locked, show them your account barcode and when they scan it, the price should auto reduce.

      • Cheers for that.

        • +1

The good thing is if your locked price is higher than the pump, then you'll pay the lower price and lock gets removed.

          • +4

@CodeXD: Doing it wrong if you don't have the cheapest 7/11 price in the country.

  • Ive tried to follow the non jailbreak method on an ios via ifakelocation but I get an error when pressing refresh

'Unable to load shared library 'imobiledevice' or one of its dependencies. In order to help diagnose loading problems, consider setting the DYLD_PRINT_LIBRARIES environment variable: dlopen(libimobiledevice, 1): image not found"

I dont understand the answer to the FAQ question which addresses this problem. can anyone explain what I have to do like I'm 5yrs old?

    • +1

I don’t understand it either but @master131 might help.

    • +2

Not sure; sounds like maybe sort sort of security/permission issue on Mac - have you checked your System Preferences > Security & Privacy menu to see if there's anything that needs to be approved.

      • Yes, I have allowed apps from unrecognised Devs. But still appears 🤷

        • +2

I'm not 100% sure to be honest; I don't actively use a Mac device but last time I checked some time ago when I had one in front of me, it was working fine out of the box.

Given that you are on Mac; you do have the freedom to use Xcode (can be obtained from the App Store) which is Apple's developer toolkit. There are guides which walkthrough how to simulate a location here (using the Custom Location option which accepts longitude/latitude).

Hey everyone, so a few messages above I posted that I was able to get my first chopper to work.

Last weekend I went on a road trip and used my locked price for the very first time.

    • First stop in Sydney: displayed price for p98 $2.09 and I had locked in $1.78. When I went in to pay, after the cashier scanned my phone, he looks twice at the screen like there was an error and say wow you just saved $15 and then say what price did you lock in and I say 1.78 and he says super surprised where did you get that price? (in Sydney by the look of it average price for p98 at 7elevens is more around the $2 at the moment)

    • 2nd stop in the hunter region displayed price $1.99 and I had locked in $1.75. Was greeted with the same comment and surprised face when I went to pay for my fuel. The cashier even asked me "where" I was to get that price and I said I was on holiday in WA.

Amusing, I mean it's the first time that cashiers engage in a conversation with me when paying for fuel.

Chopper is really popular it seems like!

    • -3

      I can see a G09 error coming up soon…

      • +2

Maybe, I'm testing the system to see where is the "limit".
I have a 2nd backup account just in case.

    • +2

Never ever been asked any questions around where I locked (VIC)
I guess you're expected to pay premium in NSW ^^

      • +1

        Never? Interesting.
Do you lock in the cheapest price in Victoria or Australia?

I was wondering if it would be "safer" to lock in the best price in my own state so it's not too obvious i'm using a chopper.

But I was curious to see if my account would get flagged so for now I'll go with Australia's cheapest. If it gets flagged quickly I'll switch to locking in NSW prices

        • +2

Australia wide. I just used it this morning as a matter of fact, from banksia grove WA.
I guess it's more important for them to win customers over competitors than chasing choppers.

          • @ShouldIBuyIt: You may be right.
Before using a chopper, I literally never refueled at a 7eleven station as in NSW they are always (at least where I live and travel to) more expansive than other petrol stations.
This is the first time my money goes to 7eleven and even though I didn't pay full price I guess it's still a win for them.

            • +2

@Arese: I exclusively shop with them for the confidence of having a good price. Who knows, maybe some stations are cheaper around, but can't be bothered dealing with the Coles/Woolies/bp voucher schemes.

        • I actually had this last week, and was probed to where I got the lock in for the first time ever.
The first time he scanned it came up as transaction error on the register. He then wanted to see the app open with the lock in price and scanned again
Not sure if there’s a certain threshold of saving dollars where they want to re scan and ask
Either way it definitely seemed like a new policy at this particular store as previously they used to be stoked when you saved a bit of coin

          • @Doctorbevan: No issues with even 50+c price difference at my store, they'd even congratulate you on the price. But yeah interested to see if there is an internal policy to refuse a locked price if it is significantly lower or if the register can flag such prices.

            • @perhaps: I was locking in prices from across the country during the Vic 5km radius lockdown bullsh*t and had a few 'that's a great price' comments, but no-one tried to question where it was from or anything

              • @SJDR: Maybe they thought you were a Karen ?

              • @SJDR: That's hilarious that you locked prices from across the country during the 5km radius lockdown. Did your account get flagged at all?

        • +1

i once got a "oh! great saving but there was a guy earlier today who saved twice that amount." lol

  • Hello everyone,

I'm having an issues when locking the fuel by ifakelocation. It can recognise my device but when I click on "Set the location". There is nothing happening. Mac ver 12.4

Does anyone have the solution please help me?

    Thank you so much.

      congratulations on your first comment

  • hi all,

i've been using iFakeLocation on my iPad (iOS14.6) + mac (macOS big sur 11.5) for the last 1.5years but couldn't lock in fuel last weekend. I thought that 7eleven was down, and i would need to give it a go later. Same thing today.

after i login into My 7eleven app on my ipad and set my fake location successfully, i get "uh no….Error E03". Tried re-installing 7eleven app but hasn't helped.

has anyone experienced similar problem and found a solution? would be keen to know your thoughts

    • +1

@sunny007 fixed it by updating to iOS 15.5.

I’m on iOS 14.8, jailbroken and was able to lock a price on Sunday without an issue.

      • My iPad isn't jailbroken but I'll try updating iOS anyway. Thanks for the idea

        • +1

          Why don't you try 3uTools?

          • @jv: Well, it worked seamlessly since i got it set up, and wasn't bothered changing things as I was thinking it was a random glitch on 7/11 end. But if iOS upgrade doesn't fix the problem, I will look at other options

            • @os3egt:

              and wasn't bothered changing things

nothing to change, just install the software on you pc…

i've never had a problem with any iOS version

Anyway, 8c voucher at Coles Express works out cheaper currently.

      • +2

just writing with an update - problem fixed
        1. upgraded iOS version to 15.6. even though I didn't find corresponding DeveloperImages I downloaded 15.5 version and renamed it to 15.6 and it did the trick. Fuel successfully locked in
        2. did not find 3uTools for Mac - was suggested that tool, but maybe it was a simple misunderstanding that i am a mac and not a pc user

        thanks for all your ideas.

  • For anyone needing a lock but can't get the helicopter running for whatever reason, there's a facebook group where people request locks with plenty pilots willing to help.

      • +2

Pretty sure that group has been running for a while now so I'd be surprise if 7/11 doesn't already know about it.

Further to pepsicles' comment, this thread which has been going since 2017 and has many subscribers (the archived version had more). The recent Wantirna deal had 1000+ upvotes, 1000+ comments and 2000+ clicks (despite the fact the clicking on the deal doesn't get you to the deal). 4000 members in a FB group is substantial but not a big difference to the influence OzBargain professionals have

Cheaper to go to Coles Express at the moment…

      154.9 - 8 cents = 146.9….

      • How do you get 8 cents? Coles shopping docket + Carsales app?

        • +7

Just download the AFL app. You get a free 4cent voucher daily to redeem by clicking on the Shell logo on the app.
It can be stacked with shopping docket to give you 8 cents…
Only one voucher per day, and you need to activate it via the app when you fill up.

          • @jv: Nice, I usually use Shell V Power app but only available during race season. Thanks for the tip!

            • +1

@Craze: Carsales gives 8c the first time but 4c for each use thereafter. I think Shell V Power gives 5c but as @Craze said, only during race season. Whenever that is…

          • +1

@jv: Unfortunately, my two Coles are always expensive. Currently $1.619 so 7-11 works out cheaper. Thanks for the hack, didn't know you could use AFL.

I know that we can't stack the docket + the carsales after the first go. Linkt also has a 4c voucher, that can't be stacked. Worst case, can still get a minimum 4c off at Coles.

            • +1

              @lordra:

Unfortunately, my two Coles are always expensive.

Can always use when travelling somewhere…

Nice to always have available on your phone for when needed…

The prices around here have varied a lot the last couple of day. Out of the 4 nearest Shell, two are 154.9 and two are 195.9

              • +1

@jv: $1.95? Damn prices are about to rise then!

            • +1

@lordra: I believe Shell discount offers can be stacked with Supermarket shopper dockets, spend in Coles Express discount but not other voucher offers:

eg: supermarket 4c off + AFL app 4c off: YES
supermarket 4c off + Coles Express Spend $20 get 10c off: YES
supermarket 4c off + AFL app 4c off + Carsales app 4c off: NO

              FAQ

Yes, you can! This offer is valid with other stackable offers from Coles Express including Coles Supermarket shopper dockets and “spend $20 in store to receive 10 cents per litre fuel discount” – subject to their terms and conditions.

EXCEPTIONS: This offer excludes any other offer offered to you in whole or part by Viva Energy. If you present any other Viva Energy funded fuel discount offer for redemption from any other party e.g. flybuys, Shell Racing Team app (in addition to the fuel discount offer from carsales), only the highest cents per litre fuel discount barcode will be redeemable. If all the Viva Energy funded fuel discount offers have the same cents per litre discount value, then only the first fuel discount offer presented will be redeemed.

Just took my first helicopter flight from St Kilda to Cessnock. 183.9 down to 146.9. Not sure if it was worth it for the roughly 10 hours it took to work out how to get it working on Android 12, but now that I have it working, I might write up some notes. The guides pinned at the top (Magisk / smali patcher) and Safetynet Failure don't work with Android 12, and I was dumb enough to flash to a custom rom before trying.
