Segway Ninebot F20A Electric Scooter $299 @ ALDI

960

Not sure if I have posted in right section or should go into forums, but this is still a active deal. Originaly posted here
[Segway Special Buys] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670056)

Segway Ninebot F20A electric scooter is now on clearance at aldi for $299 (Original special buys was $499) . Many stores have the stock. You cannot check it online but if you walk in and ask the manager they may give you the details (They can check stocks at all stores and they are updated every 15 minutes)

Checked at Adelaide yesterday and many stores have the stock (not on display at most stores). Store manager confirmed few people are buying in bulk like 10-12 of them (assuming they will be reselling on different platforms)

Store manager can also check the stock at other stores and give you information of where you can find one.

Statewide rules are here:
https://au.segway.com/where-you-can-ride-e-scooters-in-austr…

Edit: Since I got multiple requests to provide copy of receipt.. I'm attaching it here..

Knew this would happen after seeing how many our store had and the fact they are pretty much illegal to ride in nsw. Strange item for them to stock.

    • +16

The more these stores stock them, the more people buy and ride in public, the higher the priority for the government to legalise them.

      • +25

Is that how it works; the more public break a rule / law, the more likely the government will ease the rule / law?

        • +35

sounds about right. lets all drive 80 in a 60 zone

        • +30

It worked for uber in Qld

          • +6

@TooSerious2: That was Uber's whole business model globally.

        • +28

Is that how it works; the more public break a rule / law, the more likely the government will ease the rule / law?

It actually does work like that. Remember that the government simply represents the will of people, and if enough people normalise something, if it doesn't hurt others, it is likely to becomes legal. Just look at gay marriage, marijuana decriminalisation etc.
Democracy is not a spectator sport.

          • +2

@1st-Amendment: Tim Pallas didnt get that memo…different rules for items that dont burn fossil fuels.

            • +1

@tunzafun001: They're still twisting their head on how to tax these stuff.
"Unregistered and uninsured vehicles" is a common "excuse" for police to fine people

            • @tunzafun001:

Tim Pallas didnt get that memo…different rules for items that dont burn fossil fuels.

The other thing worth noting is that change is not always as quick as you would like to be, but it does happen. Again, look at gay marriage, that issue took about 15 years from becoming a public issue to being legalised. You have to actively participate, but you also need to be patient.

              • +1

@1st-Amendment: You have to actively participate….. (gay marriage). My missus would not be very happy with me if I had actively participated in that . 🤭😂

          • @1st-Amendment: I'm pretty sure there is a lot of lobbying and other influences at play with all of those, rather than people breaking the rule / law.

Gay marriage wasn't legal, so not relevant to this discussion. It took a totally unnecessary 'survey' of the voting population to get that legalised.

I don't have a problem with our politicians responding to the will of the people (except they don't seem to do it frequently enough).

            • @GG57:

except they don't seem to do it frequently enough.

This is a good thing. Imagine if every flavour of the month issue got immediately implemented without thought of the reprcussions, it would be chaos.

Time is an important factor in determining how important an issue is. Electric scooters will be legalised eventually, you just need to enough people to keep applying pressure in the right places for a enough time (eg I know my local council has applied to the State gov for rules to be relaxed and there is a whole new Future Transport Strategy that includes such things). So we'll get there eventually.

              • @1st-Amendment: They should put out a vote for new flavours every month.

This is 2022 and we dont need formal elections anymore.

At the start of the month 5 agenda items are sent out for public discussion. On the last Monday of the month everyone votes on a 5 item poll that is sent out via MyGov.

                Done.

                • @tunzafun001:

Yeah well they do that sort of thing in places like California and it turns in a clusterfudge, so no thanks. Our system is not perfect, but it's better than the fecal sandwich you just proposed there :)

                  • @1st-Amendment: California, interesting and will look into it …but speaking of fecal sandwiches. I just drove home and see corflute signs on every power pole.

On the inside I don't want to vote for a single person who puts up a corflute sign. Needs to be made illegal asap.

                  Hello Switzerland!
                  Wish we were there.

              • @1st-Amendment:

…keep applying pressure in the right places for a enough time…
…local council has applied to the State gov…

That is the way to effect change; breaking a law / rule is probably counter-productive.

It depends, Marijuana decriminalisation is a great example, Covid restrictions are another.

Blind obedience to authority is the path to tyranny. You should always participate in the process.

        • Sounds like how the health restrictions were treated in the past few months 😏

        • Yep. In the end we elect the people who make laws.

      • That is like if more people drive faster they will raise the speed limits. But I'll take it.

      • +1

        Screw these scooters then.
I’m calling everyone to start smoking weed in public!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Or, the more the fines tap into a new resource?

      • -7

LOL. Government just spent the last two years shoveling pseudoscience about useless masks, pointless lockdowns, arresting pregnant women for going to a beach and/or making facebook posts critical of government acting like communist China , and "mandating" ineffective fake vaccines that actually weaken our immune system while exempting themselves. So they don't give a damn about their foolish 200W/250W limit on ebike/scooter motors. Labor & Liberal are morons, morons vote for them, so it will never change unless: a) Australians grow a few IQ points and stop voting for them, or, b) a million (or two) people completely block a main road somewhere for a month in protest - at which point government will pretend to listen just long enough to clear the road.

      • +1

Or….the more people buy and ride in public, the more people get fined, the higher the incentive for government to keep the revenue stream.

    • +1

      Im surprised they're still illegal.

Our government tends to LOVE speed cameras, and very few people stick to the 10kmph limit in city parks; and then cop a $1,652 fine (if they were going fast enough).

    • +10

just gotta pretend to do a few kicks every couple of metres.

    • +5

Not worth the risk in NSW tbh after watching this poor chap getting smashed with $2.5k fine for riding his e-scooter in public.

        That’s disgusting… abuse of power.

          • -7

@PainToad: You know people like to legalise them because they imagine all this joy. Until they end up crashing and have to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

I remember people telling me about the Thai tattoo all tourists get. It is the one where they fall off the petrol scooter and lose a lot of skin. I did see a couple, going through the airport on their way out, one had a whole hand plaster cast. The other one on a wheelchair.

            • -1

@netjock: Unfortunately, they don't just injure themselves, they also injure pedestrians. The things are menace in Brisbane.

              • +1

@PainToad: I do an 8km power walk every 2nd night through Brisbane and I cant say they've been any more a problem than cyclists.

In all honesty, I have more collisions with pedestrians using phones than I do with scooters.

I mainly use the riverside walkways, the gardens, and the the blocks around Queen st. though, so perhaps they're worse in some other areas. Perhaps near schools or such? i dunno.

          • @PainToad:

What's disgusting is the number of injuries e-scooters cause.

            Which would be how many?

The things are menace in Brisbane.

That they are. The two silliest rules:
            1) They can ride on the footpath (ok if there was a 5km/h limit)
            2) Not allowed in bike lanes.

I think you'll find that most of the DH's are on rentals. If they limited acceleration (to about half) & speeds to say 15km/h.on rentals that might help too. But remember it's not the form of transport, the the idiot driving it. They'll always drive like a DH no matter which form of transport they drive.

            • +2

@M00Cow: Agree with this, I ride an electric skateboard around Sydney without issues (incl. footpaths). I always slow right down to pass pedestrians, driveways, blind spots etc. and even get off and walk around elderly/animals/prams when they need the space so the DH sentiment is so true. Nobody has complained to me and many police have seen me. On clear cycle paths (when it's safer to go faster for the same reasons a defensive car driver would know) I can get to 50kph.

To your point about speed/acceleration limit - doesn't really work as I've seen children/idiots going down hills at record speeds and limiting the motor power of anything electric can make them useless going up any hills (and that can be a deal breaker for people who want to replace their car)

I've had a few near misses with children who don't plan where they are going (which could still happen as a pedestrian) and near universities where international students from countries that drive on the right step directly in front (anyone who has driven cars on the opposite side knows how the instinct is backwards and you can swerve into a collision!)

Small electric vehicles are the future for transport as seen in many high density cities - it makes for very poor legislation to try to solve all problems with basic sweeping laws (such as limiting the vehicle speeds / motor power) - when like you say its the drivers who are the main problem - there should be a helmet & license requirement and all the specific rules for different types of paths and roads should be updated to allow small electric vehicles at speeds appropriate to the surroundings. Also never too early to start teaching children the road rules… from day 1 out in public on anything with wheels.

    • I hate that they won't start a shop in the NT - miss out on a lot of good deals.

      • I know your pain - WA was the same until just a few years ago!

      • -3

You really aren't. It's an illusion. Apart from the two outer aisles (food) Aldi sells either CRAP, or as this post shows they're now importing products illegal to use. 99% of what they import is garbage that temporarily pauses in peoples homes on its way to landfill. The musical instruments they sometimes get in are absolute GARBAGE someone would only buy for someone they hate and want to discourage learning an instrument; kitchen tools deliberately made to break; actual tools are not fit for purpose, hardware like screws with heads that twist off not unlike licorice; they can't even drill a straight hole through cookware to attach a handle. 99% is crap from the landfill producer of the planet.

When Kmart changed years ago I used to think their products were the worst available, then an Aldi store opened nearby. Kmart has the same or slightly better crap for the same or less $. I've seen many things for sale in Aldi, that were also in Kmart, only they flew out of Aldi stores while Kmart remained fully stocked. The gullibility of people knows no bounds.

    Any in Victoria?

    • +6

You will need to walk in and ask manager, if they are willing to help they can check stock at every single store and apparently the stock updates every 15 minutes. So they are pretty accurate.

The reduced price is effective only from last 4-5 days. So there will be stock as most do not have on display.

I went into 3 stores and they said there is no way for them to check stocks if the special buy item was over 4 weeks old, but thats not true.

The 4th store manager who was helpful, laughed and confirmed they know stocks can be checked on their computers.

He was kind enough to call another store and keep a box on hold for me.

      • Would you be able to DM where you found stock in SA? Thanks.

        • Same

          • @blewey: Newton, Golden Grove, Kilburn.

Pls see manager said there many other stores with stock but not around city.

            • @Chirag T: Any other stores outside of Adelaide CBD North or South? It’s pathetic that everything is now handled online and the stock checker doesn’t even work correctly.

      • Hi Chirag,

Can you please share the receipt with me. I went to the store and they said its for $500. [email protected]

        • OP uploaded receipt: see comment on 2nd page,

Would love it if anyone knew if there were any in Melbourne!

    • Then head to Aldi and find out :)

    • +2

None in Camberwell. Store was busy so no time to help check other stores.

      • None in Carnegie either

    • +1

      None in carrum

      • any luck with checking stock in other melbourne stores?

        • +1

i just left work. but im guessing very little to none as it was a special ages ago

    • +3

I physically checked Craigieburn, Roxburgh park, Epping and wallan. Wallan manager checked kilmore and Seymour… no luck in the north so far

      • I checked balwyn north and bulleen stores. No dice.

        • Did you speak with the staff there?

          • +1

@polarbear12345: At Bulleen I did, he laughed and said they were all gone long ago and would even entertain the idea of checking the system.

    • None in Vic

  • Thankyou aldi for 60 days satisfaction gtee
Paid $499 so I'll be taking mine back

    • hell yes, i will do the same…

just wandering return back to the original store where you bought?

OR simply just ask for difference 499-299 then no need to return?

      • I might not be in the same boat being in WA. Bit if I can get them to reimburse the difference I'll keep it.

        • Please let me know how it goes as I would like to get the reimburse if possible too. Thanks

    • Can you return it even if you've ridden it on the street?

      • Sure can.

  • +2

These specials are always store specific aren't they? I've seen plenty of clearance items discounted at one store, but then a week later will be original price at another store, or discounted to a smaller degree.

    • +1

This is not store specific. I personally checked 4 stores and confirmed the price. Saw on display at Aldi Magill and when I went to buy the next day it was all gone, yesterday manager at Greenacres Aldi confirmed he sold 11 pieces to 1 single guy and he helped me with stock information at other stores across Adelaide. Bought 1 from Newton store.

He confirmed Kilburn, Golden Grove, Newton amd few other stores had them in decent numbers

Not sure if its countrywide but I'm sure in SA this is the price, so could be other states as well.

      • So what is the info on SA stores?…any still have some? care to share? Cheers.

        • +1

See my comment above just added. Few stores that had stock as at 7:00 PM yesterday. Note I just checked stores around my area. He said there are many other stores with stock.
Else walkik to your nearest and request the manager to check stocks at the back end computer.

  • any in Sydney? i am interested

  • +1

Shows the nutty markup. First aldi pricedrop is never below wholesale. The ones that follow can be.

    • The first drop I saw on these was to $449 in January at a store in NSW.

  • +2

Would be down for one in Canberra - I'll pop into Aldi today and update if noone else gets the chance to.

    • Damn I was just at Amaroo. I might head back at lunchtime and ask.

      • Let us know how you go!

        • When I pulled up outside Aldi, I saw one guy walking out with a scooter.

Tracked down a staff member and asked if they had more, the guy said no and didn't know what I was talking about despite someone just walking out with one.

He went out the back to check but came back and said they had none.

So I bought an air fryer instead.

    • Keen to hear if there are any across the ACT. I’m at work until this evening so won’t get into a store until tomorrow at best.

      • +3

I went to Aldi Gungahlin and asked the manager who went out back to check on their pc, they said that ACT had none left. Queanbeyan has one, but its not the f20a, its the e10 kids one for $349

        • I picked up the f20a this morning at Jerra and there were 4 left.

          • @m450n86: What was price at Jerra?

            • @peak: Sorry for late reply, it was 399. Still pretty good deal.

    • Hey Kehnberrians, as an update, I copped an F20A at Aldi Macquarie (Jamison Centre) for $399! A legend at Aldi Civic Center informed me there may be some Segways (no idea which model) at Macquarie, and I managed to pop over last Friday. 6 remaining in stock as of then, just ask for them out at the back. Hope it helps someone! I'm absolutely loving it.

  • +2

Anyone know of any stock in Brisbane / Gold Coast?

    • Plenty in Arana Hills,QLD and Keppera Stores,QLD, but selling at $399

  • Anyone got a reciept for 299? I found some but price showing as 499 in qld
