How Many Entertainment Subscription Based Services You Are Paying for?

Hi all,
The purpose of this poll is too see how many of us Bargainers are spending each month on subscription services. Please provide your honest answers.

** Not including any channels or influencer accounts. Only platforms such as Amazon prime, Netflix, Spotify, YouTube premium, playstation, Xbox premium, etc. **

Thanks for your awesome input everyone. I would like to emphasize again that this poll is solely for the purpose of gathering subscriptions for the mainstream media/gaming/movies/tv/news/sports/documentaries, etc categories.

This poll does not include any adult related content website subscriptions.

Please input the number for subscriptions you are actively paying for only. Free subscriptions should not be counted.
For ex - I have access to Netflix, PS, Amazon prime, binge, flash, kayo, YouTube premium.
However I only pay for YouTube premium only so my poll choice is 1 only.

Thank you very much for your involvement.

                  • @jedimaster: I think all of them are based in Europe or America.

Mine is Finland. I used a CDN and things load quickly but I don't bother with 4k since I only have 50 down.

I reckon if I had faster net I could stream remux. Most of them tend to have a lot of upload, generally 1gpbs

            • +1

@SnowDragon: Not convincing you to change, we all do things differently, but you don't need to compare paying for a Plex server with running your own 24x7 and serving others as well. It's cheaper if you just run a setup for yourself (and not running a plex server for others)

I run my own setup; if PC is off overnight that's no issue, when I am using it during the day sonarr/radarr will get the required shows. I have 100/40, but you can limit the downloading speed if you didn't want it to interfere with every day usage. It doesn't interfere with mine capped at 8MB/s. Also, because it is just for you, you don't need a massive NAS to store all the films/shows. Say you just watch Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, whatever it is, do you need to keep it? No.. do you intend on watching it next year or the year after? Just download it again then.

Re cost, I have access to private trackers which have far more than 1.4 pib (and are free), and usenet, which costs US$20 per year, + US$10 once off for the indexer. I use PC for work during the day, so it's on anyway

  • +4

    Does only fans count?

    • +3

Well it is entertainment… to a degree. so yes?

  • +1

0 - AGL 12 month free prime subscription

    • AGL was quite a bit more expensive where I live.
If you can signup, get prime, and churn, I guess it's good.

  • +6

    utorrent

    • +3

      You pay for it?

      • Premium membership
        .

    • Technically this is old school do.

Just easier to have a box with Kodi, and other various apps and have everything free at your fingertips through your TV.

  • Does VPN count?

  • Inb4 ban.

  • +6

I prefer piracy. I have briefly used various streaming platforms, but I found the interfaces, and streaming generally, to be an inferior experience. That said, I do watch YouTube with an ad blocker, as the internet was intended to be viewed.

  • +1

Prime, but coz of Amazon postage, I don't really watch Prime video
Netflix - have about $180 credit for the Google TV deal so once that runs out im cancelling
Real debrid - replaces every subscription I'll ever need

  • +1

Amazon prime, but streaming’s really a side benefit.

I have access to but don’t pay for Netflix

  • Curiosity Stream

    < $20 per year when on sale…

    • +5

      It's on sale now… USD 11.99/year

Use code: DAD40 for 40% off annual plans.

  • +1

xbox game pass $1 for 3 month, and $6.50 for netflix as part of family plan with my colleague… youtube premium is free as a present from my neighbour

  • +5

    This is OzBargain, why pay?

    • +2

Because some of us are willing to pay for convenience.

  • -4

How many do I have? 2.
How many do I pay for? None.
    I'm not stupid.

  • +1

Personally don't consider Prime a streaming service at all, IMO it's a free delivery package with (near useless to me) addons - thus nil entered into the poll.

  • +1

Does using bittorrent and paying for it with my conscience count?

    • +2

If you pay for a VPN, that should be close enough

  • Amazon Prime for the delivery service but Prime Video is a nice bonus
Humble Choice though I pause the monthly subscription more often than not
Xbox Game pass (for PC) whenever the $1 for three months deal goes on

  • none

I get free spotify premium with those 3 month sign ups from time to time
    youtube vanced
download all movies and series i want in 4k

  • 1 subscription, Tidal music, 250 Argentine Pesos per month, aprox 1.70AUD

  • +1

    Directly pay for = 3
    Have access to = 4

  • +1

4, 5 if you include original VPN sub to access some of them

    Spotify Family ~$5.44 a month
Youtube Premium Family ~$2.11 a month
Xbox Game Pass prepaid 3 years ~$100 total/$2.78 a month
Microsoft Office Family prepaid 2 years ~$190 total/$7.92 a month

Also a one-off sub to NordVPN to get access to cheap Spotify and Youtube Premium which was ~$100 with 90% cash back

  • Just ozbargain silver. Can't justify the higher levels.

Seriously though, shared Netflix, interwebs, PSN Plus

  • +1

Prime Video is surprisingly good e.g. the new Bond movie "No Time to Die".

  • +4

Hate that I don't know the number of the top of my head.

    Pay fully by myself:

    • Google One
    • Spotify
    • Discord
    • Amazon Prime
    • Disney+ (considering dropping unless friends wanna split its cost)

    Split with friends/have access to:

    • Netflix
    • Crunchyroll
    • Stan Sports
    • Optus Sports
    • Kayo Sports

Don't use but have because of a deal:

    • Xbox Game Pass

    May get if good deal:

    • Skillshare
    • Curiousity Stream
    • Brilliant.org
    • Crunch Base by Mark Rober

And I still have to pirate sometimes because I don't have Apple TV and we don't have HBO Max in Aus.

    • +1

How many hours of content are you watching per week?

  • +4

    Google One - Full price
    Youtube Premium - India https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/690698
    Netflix - Turkey https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/706375
    Spotify Family - Crypto.com 100% cashback https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/660503

Amazon Prime - via Optus Subhub where I'm also getting an A8 tablet https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696220
Optus Sport - also via Optus Subhub where I'm getting an A8 tablet https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696220

Audible - wait for the free bonus sign up offers, join get the free books I've got on my wishlist, then cancel

Stan, Binge, Disney, Foxtel Now - sporadically share, sign up to trials, etc

Kayo - when there is a free deal but this is the one annoying me the most tbh but it so expensive I just cant bring myself to pay it

Les Mills - free sign up periods sometimes
Centrfit - was on the free Amex deal, need to check that actually

    • I still find it bizarre that paying full price for Google One is cheaper than getting it with a VPN

      • Tbh I just havent looked into that one yet - if there are cheaper options I'm all ears (although your comment there appears as if I may be lucky)

        • The basic 100GB one is $25/year, or in India it came out to around $28 after conversion fees, might be able to save a buck or two with a fee-free card though, it just wasn't worth the effort

  • +4

    Pornhub
    Onlyfans

  • Netflix - Leech off of FIL who wanted Ultra HD but only uses 2 spots
Prime - Leech off of parent's family Amazon account
Youtube Premium - ~$4 a month (India) for a family plan that I share as my contribution
Google One - $2.5 a month, also shared with family
    Nebula/CuriosityStream - ~$1.5 a month

Used to operate a family Plex server, but the sheer amount of content on Netflix/Prime/Youtube/Nebula/CuriosityStream pretty much makes that redundant, and it costs less for those subscriptions than the extra electricity/internet did

  • +1

    Hecs

  • Anyone with Foxtel? Dont tell me we are the only one….
Also have Amazon, Netflix, Spotify, CourierMail (LOL). Used to subscribe to a Karaoke Channel and forgot what happened there…
I wish to know how to subscribe to XiaoMi; seems like they have lots of interesting channels pity cant view from Oz.

  • Do 2 legged subscriptions count?

  • Was paying for 3, netflix, Prime and Disney. But just cancelled disney, the piss poor new content just isn't worth renewing as I don't have kids and the new star wars and marvel stuff on their lately has been subpar.

  • +1

Needs some options between 0 and 1. I usually take out a one month Netflix subscription once or twice a year for travelling.
Currently have a Kayo discounted subscription for MotoGP but won't keep it the full year.

  • Pay for prime, but not for the video ($59/ year). Pay for Argentinean Netflix ($9.49 last month too lazy to switch to Turkey). Pay for Indian YouTube ($2.32 last month) and Filipino Spotify ($3.60 last month).

  • Netflix, spotify family account & a shared kayo account.

Tempted by youtube as i watch a bit and the ads are very annoying. Full price is expensive and I always lose interest when I read how complicated workaround methods are

  • +1

AUD $10 per year for Youtube Premium including Youtube Music.

  • +1

Neftlix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Stan, Paramount Plus, Crunchy Roll, Funimation, Binge, Apple TV, Tubi (freebie). Also spotifiy but that isn't tv.

I watch only youtube 95% of the time and only watch Marvel/Star Wars content on Disney Plus.

My son and I are huge One Piece fans and watch the anime (dubbed in english) through watchcartoononline (cast through an appletv via an ipad) even though to we pay for Crunchy Roll (where we would have to watch it in Japanese and read the subtitles). Once we are done with all the dubbed episodes of One Piece we will have to start watching the subtitled episodes on Crunchy Roll.

We did try Brit Box for a while when it first came out but cancelled that.

  • +1

I pay for Amazon, 3 or so years now. Youtube premium. Wish they had a yearly sub. Been about 6 years for that, I get free Disney from telstra. Won't renew when expired. I also get paramount via my WUFC membership, I use my dads stan account for BCS and occasionally my sisters Netflix. I do have a xbox subscription with my XSX telstra repayments. I have foxtel go. But that's part of my foxtel service

  • +1

I have free YouTube and Spotify premium (easy on Android), torrents for movies/shows and streams for sports events
Saved over a thousand dollars a year easily

  • +1

3 - Netflix & Amazon, plus FulGaz as a cycling / indoor training app

  • +3

    None.

    1. Installed qBittorrent.
    2. Signed up for free VPN(s).
    3. Installed and activated ad blocker browser plugins to block the pron and popups when I…
    4. … Searched for show titles on ThePirateBay or 1337x.
    5. Clicked the magnet link, selected "Download first and last pieces first" and "Download in sequential order", then clicked OK.

The last step means I only wait a few minutes with most files and there's enough downloaded to start viewing. The rest downloads and completes faster than you can watch it. New shows are up within hours of release. Sometimes new movies are a CAM version though (recorded on a video camera/phone) of poor quality. So I wait for a digital rip by making a note in the "TV.txt" file on my desktop and check occasionally until it appears.

With their sick agendas inserted nowadays they don't deserve my money.

    • So I wait for a digital rip by making a note in the "TV.txt" file on my desktop and check occasionally until it appears.

you need to setup radarr - that way you can select what profile you are looking for (2160p, 1080p, remux, etc), including release names if you want to be that specific, and it will only get those.

      • Thanks. I'll have a look.

    • This is what I did for 10 years, but you can just get a box with Kodi and other apps and have it all direct through the TV for free.

      • I've only briefly glanced at Kodi boxes. Maybe I should, but when I did before, it was difficult to see how it was any easier.

  • +1

https://heyhey.tv/ Daryl & Ossie for the win. My one and only paid streaming channel.

I can see why they don't offer a free trial, it would be more of a watch a couple of episodes and see how badly it aged kinda thing.

      • No way! I'm going to watch them all !!! It's the best thing on Television.

  • 0 entertainment subs
however I do subscribe to Amazon Prime for 2 - 3 months a year whenever I need it or want to binge-watch a few shows.

    2 non-entertainment subs
    NordVPN
    MS Onedrive family

  • 5 subscription services. Paramount plus won't be renewed and Netflix will only be paid for when there's something I want to watch rather than auto renewal.

    • Prime
    • Netflix
    • Paramount Plus
    • Audible
    • YouTube premium
  • Spotify, Stan + Sport, iCloud+, Netflix, NFL GamePass, Kayo, Amazon Prime

It's ridiculous one has to pay for all this shit now.

  • None that I'm paying for but piggy backing on family's Netflix and youtube premium accounts. Current have prime for free through optus.

  • Amazon fire stick with cinema hd plus priority links - cancelled my Stan and netflix

  • $3/month Spotify family.
    Nord VPN 95% cashback.

Mr Ye Coaching for my daughter. $50 for 3hrs/wk in a classroom of about 25. Just an overly expensive subscription service from my point of view. But my wife is so caught up amongst her social media group.

    • +1

Pfft ebay plus isn't an entertainment subscription. But you still qualify for 10+ so high fives!

      • Yeah I'm thinking of cancelling ebay plus because they haven't added streaming yet :(

  • +1

For the 100 odd people that have 5 or more: how do you even find the time to watch anything more then 1-2-3 hours a day - thus justifying $100 odd ($20 a pop is the average the days) on the services?

    • I don't think it's about watching more than 3 hours a day, it's just that they want certain shows on certain platforms.

eg so if they want to watch The Boys, they want amazon. But they might not want much else there. Better call saul they want netflix. To watch Barry they'll want a different platform again. And so it goes on. If they want to watch the next season of Only Murders in the Building, they'll need Disney+ I think?

That, or sail the high seas.

      • That, or sail the high seas.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12282409/redir

I've been watching The Boys and Barry for free, and now I'm looking up what Only Murders in the Building is about. ;-D

      • I understand "want" but do they "need" all the subscriptions at the same time?

        Not much of a bargain.

  • +1

Netflix (Standard) + Amazon Prime (only because I use it for shopping) + Youtube Premium (shared with "family") + Stan (actually didn't pay, because got it through my wife's work)

  • +1

    Netflix 4K via Turkey
    Spotify Family
Paramount+ (in that $5 a year price error a while back, won’t renew)
Prime (never stream video on it)
    Sonarr/Radarr/SABnzbd/Plex

  • +1

Pay for Prime, Amazon music unlimited, iQiyi, Paramount+, Netflix.

    Get Disney free.

Occasionally I’ll buy a month or 2 of funimation to watch an anime, but not currently.

  • +1

Twitch Turbo and PS Plus for me.

  • +1

    Prime in aud
Netflix, hotstar, zee5, aha in inr
    And plex for Free

  • +1

Amazon Prime Video (have it for the shopping, movies comes for free… rarely used but nice plus to have)
Paramount (with that crazy OzBargain deal recently for a couple bucks for the whole year… otherwise no way continuing it)
Disney (probably most used at the moment behind Foxtel… love my Sci-Fi, and kids love it too)
    Netflix (mainly for the kids)
YouTube Premium (because I live in Argentina and I hate ads)
NBA TV (because I live in Brazil and I love NBA)
Foxtel Platinum (because free to air sucks balls, and I share the connection so not as expensive as what it seems… for $60 it's worth it, and gets used the most out of all of them)
Spotify (both partner and I listen to it at work instead of radio)
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (because I live in Argentina again and refuse to pay AU pricing)

    Damn… when I first saw that question I thought 4 or 5. I have 9!!!

Ebay Plus is there as well (I know its shopping not entertainment), but only because they pay me to have it… otherwise I let it lapse.

And in regards to adult content, why pay when you have PornHub, PornMD, etc etc?

  • +1

Amazon Prime (mainly shopping, sometimes streaming)
Netflix - Turkey (main streaming service)
    Disney+ (shared Ozbargain spot)
YouTube Premium - Family India (YouTube Music and YouTube no ads)
Paramount (recent Ozbargain deal, couldn't find anything decent there, expiring soon, not renewing)

Had Hulu US subscription for one year, but they blocked my AU credit card and I couldn't bother trying to find a (new) way to circumvent Hulu's annoying geofencing to give them money. Disney+ has most of the content now.
