        • Oh yeah you're right. I remember now. Oof

  • +15

Be aware that it's an extra $5/mth for non-CGNAT IP Address that allows port forwarding etc. (important for some gaming, accessing home services remotely, etc.)

    • Cheers for this heads up, was just what I was about to start looking for. Still relatively good for $54 a month though

    • So you can use smart devices remotely?

      • Generally wouldn't be affected. The most commonly used thing which may be affected is trying to use a home vpn.

        • +2

And gaming consoles and Plex servers

        • Are you saying NordVPN etc won't work?
Not into gaming really or remote access..
Either way it's $10 cheaper than what i'm paying for 50/20 with Leaptel, was almost about to pay $10 more for SL.

          • +1

@G-rig: No. For you to access your own home network, not the other way around which is what nordvpn is.

Though, I believe tailscale will still work behind cgnat?

    • +1

How do you get it at $5/month? I just asked in their online chat and they said "We only offer it for $11 per month this is directly from management."

    • Have you managed to get it for this price? They only told me $11/month so I ended up cancelling my service and was just pro-rata charged for the 2 days

  • +3

Damn this looks good when youre paying 100 a month for 100/20 on ABB

    • Me too but it's a business account.

    • +7

      On price alone, yes.
But Aussie BB has POP's all over the country, Spintel does not, meaning you may have shabby latency depending if you are near one of their POP's or not. It's much cheaper to operate a network with only a few POP's.
Update: not even a few POP's, they only have 1, in Sydney, for the whole.country. Hard pass for me.

      • How do you find out where the POP's are? I'm looking to switch but don't want to bother with bad latency or dropouts

        • Spintel doesn't post their POP location (singular) online, probably because it's just the 1 POP in Sydney (the same goes for My Republic).
I called them to confirm, which appears the only way.

          • @SimAus007: Thanks! That's a shame though. I think I'll just trial it and see if it works "good enough" and if it sucks, I'll just switch. Easy peasy!

  • Thanks OP! Cya Superloop. Easy signup. Need to confirm ID and activate account. Awaiting activation.

    • Confirm ID as in credit check sense or what ?

      • +1

Here's what I got after signing up

Identity Documents: Please confirm your identity by uploading photo ID. Once we have approved your order, your ID document will be removed from our systems.

BYO Hardware: Please tell us what hardware you have so we can provide you with a trouble free onboarding experience.

        • +15

Uploading IDs for what? It’s a prepaid service ffs.

This is a recipe for disaster on the scale of Optus and Medibank.

          Do these idiots learn nothing?

          • @HardQuiz: This isn't a prepaid account. You are signing up for an ongoing agreement with the supplier even if there's no contract. Even though you're paying in advance.

In your logic, any supplier that makes you pay in advance is "pre-paid". In your definition, rent is pre-paid(?) but you still have to confirm your identity, even with pre-paid Optus accounts, your still need to give proof of ID for activation.

            • +2

              Uhhhh…

In your logic, any supplier that makes you pay in advance is "pre-paid".

That's literally the definition of pre-paid.

In your definition, rent is pre-paid(?)

              Correct, it is.

          • +1

@HardQuiz: I was told that it’s not a prepaid service it’s postpaid which requires credit checks ?
So when i tried to get some more info and did some cross questioning, I was told “We still do credit checks this is the management’s policy and will not change “.
Sorry but support person was kind of rude. Was tempted but will now stick to my current provider. Thanks

        • +3

Just signed up though it didn't ask for ID upload.

The only think it asked for confirmation was BYO hardware details. Thought, TBH, I am not too keen on providing them with MAC address and Serial number of my device. They will know the MAC address anyway once a connection is made, though why ask for serial number too!!. Maybe I am going paranoid.

          • +1

@ozbargain-darkfish: You'll probably still have to if you look under the order tracking, where it asks you for those items/documents.

I'm still waiting on a new TMR CRN anyway so just uploaded the old/current one. Likewise will be connecting a different router this week.

            • @G-rig: @G-rig Yeah, I am doing that too. Luckily have a spare modem. I'll then test again with original modem once they connect the service.
In terms of documents, still no request for verification. Just the modem details.

No good for Perth users as all of signal goes to east coast. I just left spintel because of it.

    • Thanks for that, might stick with ABB then!

      • +3

Yep, Spintel has only one POP for the entire country, in Sydney :/

        • How about Superloop?

      • +7

What I am saying is there is no Perth POP.

        • Is that more for gaming? Or in general usage?

          • +4

@mmd: Both. Ping is high, my location shows Melbourne or somewhere, signal drops frequently.
Trust me. I am a current Spintel user at Perth for 4 years and I am out.

            • @JoshJ: Good to know. I'm with mate and no issues

          • @mmd: If you aren't in Sydney, it may feel slow due to the latency, no matter what speed plan you are on.

        • -4

          That's what I'm saying too

It's not like the east took all the quota so Perth is slow, it's because of the infrastructure in Perth.

          • +4

@Poor Ass: JoshH is not talking about the quota or signal strength, he's talking about the route the signals have to take if you get a connection with Spintel.

If spintel doesn't have a Perth PoP(point of presence), all the data has to be routed via the east coast which makes ping higher. (This can be avoided by choosing an ISP that does have a Perth a PoP).

Perth right now has 14-15 nbn PoIs so the infrastructure is there but if the provider doesn't have a PoP here, that becomes the problem.

            https://www.nbnco.com.au/content/dam/nbnco2/images/blog/the-…

            • -2

              @Tech45: thanks for explaining

still….. the infrastructure for Spintel not there / PoP hence slow

              • @Poor Ass: I guess that is the point he was making so people from Perth can skip on this offer.

            • @Tech45: Does it affect me if I'm in a FTTP zone?

              • +1

@mmd: It even affects FTTP. SpinTel traffic takes the scenic route from WA to Sydney.

              • @mmd: FTTP/FTTN basically only makes a difference in the stages closer to your property, so yes it would still impact FTTP.

      • -2

I love negs it fuels me

  • I am a previous customer on Spintel 50mbps @ 64.95 p/m, I can sign up for this and it allows me but I don't know if they are going to replace my old speed with this new speed account or create another account in another port.

Nothing in the sign up process or T&Cs state if:
    1. My old plan will be replaced or
    2. A new port will be allocated in my FTTP (technically have 2 accounts with spintel and I have to cancel my other account)

    I will call them tomorrow.

    • Did you call them ?

      • +1

        still the same day.
but i wan to know as well. im happy to pay my old rate as loong they can increase my speed for 6m

        • They responded, read below

      • They changed the sign up process, the existing customer login button is no longer there and now says "One or more products in your cart are for new customers only." and chat said it's for new customers.

  • +2

Wow pretty cheap, was almost about to jump on to superloop 100/20 for $69/m. Currently paying $59 for Leaptel.

For those worried about the price after 6 months just reassess towards the end of 6m and move again. All these isps fine on my HFC connection and make little difference.

    • Do you live in Sydney? If not I'd take a look above, first :)

      • ?
Whichever ISP I use is usually the same, good HFC FTTP connection.

        • +1

If you aren't living in Sydney the ping is huge. There is a difference. Just do a speed test and you'll see it under "ping".
Most RSP's have POP's in all the major cities and even some regional areas.
This is cheap for a reason but probably okay for light users.

          • @SimAus007: Hmm Nah BNE

That's a shame, current ping is usually 8s (getting 9-15s right at the moment) on speedtest (1-2s to router).
Bit pointless upping the speed and getting a new wifi6 router if that's the case.

perhaps superloop is better but assumed it's hard to stuff up a HFC connection these days if every ISP has been fine?
            What's huge btw?

            Cheers,

            • +1

@G-rig: Almost every ISP (RSP) is similar, however, both Spintel and My Republic are 2 I know of that only have a 1 POP in Sydney, so if you are in Brisbane you'll definitely see poor latency. Your internet is travelling to their Sydney server and back for everything you. Unlike the others which will have a POP in Brisbane :)
Zoom Broadband has a good deal on and has a POP in Brisbane (just noticed their deal on here). I was with My Republic here in Melbourne and had a 25 to 30ms ping in Melbourne with their POP in Sydney. Made the net feel slow.

              • +1

@SimAus007: Geez, thanks for letting me know- that's not what i want. Will see if they do the call back and may say don't worry.
Most RSP have been good here and just got a few on roation over a couple of years. ABB, Belong, Superloop, Tangerine, Leaptel all good.

Maybe i should just stick to Leaptel for another 6 months @$60 for 50/20, but thought I may as well pay another $10 for double the speed with Superloop (until i saw this deal).

                • @G-rig: Yeah I was very interested in Spintel also until they confirmed the 1 POP.
Personally I'd rather 50Mbps with low latency than 100Mbps.with high latency. But each to their own.

                  • @SimAus007: Yes solid advice mate and no issues with Leaptel, seeing if they can match superloop

                    • @G-rig: I'll look at Leaptel also then. Cheers :)

                      • +1

@SimAus007: just ended up upgrading my Leaptel to 100/20, the promo is for new customers but can get it applied to the outstanding time left of my current promo (~6 months for me), pay the extra difference next billing date or can pro-rata. Easier just keeping the same RSP and $5 more than superloop is alright.

                    • +1

@G-rig: Leaptel customer here as well. Very happy with the service. Coming from ABB>SL>tangerine >Leaptel

                      • @Gavezy890: the online chat is very fast and already active on 100/20 now

  • +1

"Please note that the offer is valid only with a purchase of a new plan made between November 22-30, 2022"

New customers only, or existing customers switching to a new plan, or both?

    • I just signed up as an existing customer, but instead of the SMS verification in the sign up process, I chose for them to call me about my ID and my order went through.

I assume existing customers can get it as in the sign up form, it allows you to login and apply the discount code. But I should get confirmation tomorrow.

This is the confirmation PDF order i got in my email, so the discount and order went through:
      https://ibb.co/2SkfJ29

      • I’m existing too, I signed up and will see what comes of it.

        • +2

They changed the sign up process, the existing customer login button is no longer there and now says "One or more products in your cart are for new customers only." and chat said it's for new customers.

They won't honour my sign up.

  • +2

Damn, If only my Dad wasn't dead-set on sticking with Optus for $99 a month for 50/20

    • +7

I feel ya! Nothing worse than stubborn old folks who still think they know everything better than their ‘children’.

    • -1

      Pay for this yourself?

    • +1

But I'm sure he's been with this now Singapore government owned 'Aussie' business for 40 years. Probably wrote off his data being leaked as nothing too.

      • +2

        "i've got nothing to hide"
        "i'm not interesting enough"
        take your pick lol

  • Unreal…just messed it up. I've been trying to sign up on Firefox for 45 mins, but it would hang when it searched for my address.

Then tried Chrome and it worked no problem. However, I forgot to put in the discount code on Chrome. #$#@#$

That's what I get for trying to do it when I'm half asleep at 2am in the morning. :-(

    • Yeah will have to message them as well, the form wasn't working well on the phone and added some hardware I didn't want

Just added a message in the callback request box to cancel that and for an end of month connection too.

  • Thanks OP. Free internet is finishing in a week.. perfect timing ;)

  • +2

Time to leave ABB $85 PER MONTH 75/20.

ABB have great customer service but pretty pricey comparatively

    • +1

Yea ABB customer service is the best, I had heaps of drop out issues and they always fixed me up when I was with them. Now I moved to TPG and I’m sad I have no issues and no reason to call anyone

  • Have to leave SL even with a customer retention discount of $10, this Spintel price is a good reason for me to jump now.

  • +1

Any offers for current customers ?

  • Nice! I will move from SL next week.

  • Do I need to buy the modem if I have optus nbn 50/20 plan for 75 dollars.

    • +1

No. Any modem should theoretically work with any provider. They will be exceptions but that is rare.

      • I was in chat and they said optus modem wont work…

        • +1

Yea, I think those modems are locked to Optus. I hate that, such a waste of hardware and creation of e-Waste.

  • Just signed up to move away from ABB - quick question, I don’t have to do anything else right? As in notify ABB or whatever. I assume it just churns and I’ll have to reboot when that happens and happy. Days

    • +1

You'll have to call ABB to disconnect after your new connection.

    • My ABB auto disconnected, sent an email within 1 hour after my service was changed (not for this one but moving to super loop)

      • +1

You sent them an email or ABB sent you one?

Do ABB refund you for the pro-rata month not used?

        • +2

Sent me one on disconnect. It was all very automated, and instant. Was surprised how easy it was

          Yes, pro rata

Note: This was changing from ABB to SuperL

  • I had put a friends cancellation request for SpinTel through for 30th November. Going to try and now see if they can switch to this!

  • +1

Is there any way to schedule connection in about 24 days? My superloop renewed 4 days ago, so i would waste $80 if i connect now which is almost 3 months of the potential savings of switching… sadness…

    • Pretty sure your ISP should refund you pro rata
