Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions

Netflix has [very quietly] rolled out a price hike for Turkey and told absolutely nobody about it. I can't even find a single news article about it Well actually I found one lol. Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read. Netflix Turkey (Premium) now has a 264% price increase in just over a year! Luckily, Turkey is still safe from Netflix's Password Sharing restrictions.

Anyway, you all know the drill - new prices = new guide. This guide is the best guide I'm made so far. There are now 3 complete methods to sign up. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

This new guide has now been updated to include:

  • Further clarification regarding the 1-month lockout period for new sign-ups to Netflix Turkey. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • Further clarification regarding problems related to payment issues that arise a few months after signing up, including steps to take when you encounter the "update payment method" issue. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • Further clarification and instructions for those who wish to bypass Gift Cards and verify using a Turkish phone number via PingMe (Method 2).
  • Further clarification and instructions for those who wish to reload their account with Netflix Turkey Gift Cards.
  • New Netflix Turkey pricing and new statistics.
  • More screenshots to better guide you through the sign-up process.

Similar to my last post, I'm resharing this guide after previous deal post expired due to a price increase by Netflix. This is the third price hike for Turkey in the period of just over a year.

  • Turkey is definitely no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they increased prices multiple times (Example: Premium plan from TL₺54.99 to TL₺77.99 to TL₺93.99 to TL₺130.99 to TL₺199.99 in a span of just over a year). That's a 264% price increase in just over a year!
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Edypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.
  • NEW Sept 2023!! Netflix Argentina is now ARS1,649 (A$7.40) for the Basic Plan and ARS3,999 (A$17.94) for the Premium Plan (in the last Netflix post, Argentina prices were ARS999 (A$6.10) for the Basic Plan and ARS2,399 (A$14.64) for the Premium Plan). In the post before that, Argentina prices were Argentina prices were ARS699 (A$4.27) for the Basic Plan and ARS1,899 (A$11.59) for the Premium Plan). Despite the Argentina Peso crashing a ton, these new plan prices are extremely ridiculous for these countries. That's a 136% and 111% price increase, respectively, in just under a year! To make matters worse, Netflix Argentina now has the new password sharing feature for additional costs of ARS699 per slot per month.

Instructions – Method #1 (Using Turkey Netflix Gift Cards)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month OR you would like to use Turkey Netflix Gift Cards moving forward.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership)

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card (any value is fine, even if it's not enough to cover the full month)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery (at night time AEST), they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Australian account with a VPN on gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card See this screenshot:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

Possible Problem: When redeeming the Turkey Netflix Gift Card, it gives an error (code invalid, etc)
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed. If after several VPNs and this issue still occurs, try to reach out to your place of purchase due to them possibly issuing you an incorrect code

  5. Follow the prompts of the sign up process. This screenshot will show the first page after applying the gift card. Click "Next" to land on this page. Choose the plan you want, then click "Next" to land on the payment page in step 6

  6. Proceed by choosing a backup payment method. Be careful with this step and look at the screenshot!

    • If you did Part 1 instructions correctly then your payment method is already saved within your account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom. On the next page, click "Next" (see screenshot). Now Netflix will want to confirm your details to make sure it is correct as per (this screenshot). Double check, tick the checkbox and start your membership!

    • Otherwise, if for some reason you haven't done Part 1 correctly or your debit/credit card has expired, you will have to add a new debit/credit card (see screenshot). Beward this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification (which I guarantee you don't have otherwise you would have done Part 2) - if this happens, please complete Part 1 again (see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: If you bought a gift card that has a higher value than your selected plan, you’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

Instructions – Method #2 (Using your Australian Debit/Credit Card, Requires PingMe App for Turkey SMS Verification)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month.

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix on a new tab and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method.

  5. Enter a Turkish phone number for the SMS verification process.

You can use the service from "PingMe" to obtain a Turkish number for Netflix's SMS verification purposes for just a few dollars. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Turkey SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Turkey (+90)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

  6. You're done! Enjoy your membership :)

Instructions – Method #3 (Using your OlduBil Turkish Virtual Mastercard) - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS METHOD ANYMORE

Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership).

  1. Log in to your Australian Netflix account, or sign up for an account. Make sure you log in with VPN turned off (logging into your Australian account with a VPN gives an error).

  2. Activate a VPN service, and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs, where possible.

Possible Problem: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  3. With VPN on, refresh the main netflix webpage. Alternatively, go to this link:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check and/or change your VPN if needed

  4. Click on "Restart Membership" and follow the prompts of the sign up process. Click "Next and then select the plan you want. Click "Next"and then click "Credit or debit card". Enter your OlduBil Virtual Mastercard details, full name, tick the T&Cs declaration, and then click "Start Membership".

  5. At this stage you're done. Don’t enter anything on this page. Netflix will ask some random questions (just to set up your account). After that, your account will be complete, and you can enjoy your subscription!

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: New sign-ups to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This lockout period will last approximately 28-30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch most shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise an error will pop up preventing you from watching anything). You can turn off the VPN after the show/movie has loaded for faster connection. This minor hassle for a month is well worth the savings in the long term.

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Turkey. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Turkey VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Turkey for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Turkey phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Turkish number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Turkey phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ above.

Q: How do I add Netflix Turkey Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: Log in and go to account settings. Click on Redeem gift card or promo code and redeem your Gift Cards there. You should be able to do this without a VPN. If it doesn't work, try with a VPN.

Q: I get an error when redeeming gift cards?
A: This is a VPN problem. Most likely the VPN server has been flagged. Double check or change your VPN if needed. In that rare 1% chance it's not a VPN problem, you may have a troubled gift card.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

    • @2jzzzz I guess you haven't looked at the statistics section of the post? Argentina is more expensive than Turkey.

      • +1

Can't open a google doc on this computer.

        • @2jzzzz it was on the post itself:

          • NEW Sept 2023!! Netflix Argentina is now ARS1,649 (A$7.40) for the Basic Plan and ARS3,999 (A$17.94) for the Premium Plan (in the last Netflix post, Argentina prices were ARS999 (A$6.10) for the Basic Plan and ARS2,399 (A$14.64) for the Premium Plan). Honestly, thank you for your indepth rundown. But even if it were $5 a month, I couldn't justify spending money on such horrible entertainment.

    • They come out with bangers infrequently enough that it easy to just download the stuff you hear about from social media to Plex.

      • Somos was the last banger I caught, and like you said, Plex is a very good friend :)

  • Thanks for sharing this deal.
What would be the process if there is an active Netflix Turkey subscription and you would like to update credit card details (previous card expiring)?
When updating credit card details via VPN it says 'There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use.' This is the same issue with Live Chat.
Does this mean repeating the entire process from step 1 (letting the subscription expire, etc), or is there a simpler approach?

    • Unfortunately you need to have an Australian Netflix account active/inactive to add an AU card.

The above process is based on the Netflix being AU while adding the card, before converting to Turkish.

In order to add a new AU card, you will have to wait for the account to become inactive without subscription, then sign up back in Australia, no VPN.

While it's Australian again, you can adjust the AU card easily. You then need to have the now AU account become inactive again before converting it back to Turkey.

It's harder to request a cancellation of the AU month if you've already used the service previously, but you could try, otherwise you can just pay for a month of Netflix Australia, turn off auto-renewal and then wait for it to finish.

      • Thanks Jimbuscus, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining!

    • When you say its the same with live chat, you meant the card update form they provide gives the same error?

  • damn this is so frustrating - premium netflix double digits

    • Been that way for a while now, sadly. Thus, the mass-influx of Turkish visas.

      • +1

zanzir is referring to the new Turkish prices for premium, hitting double digits. We've been so used to paying single digits for Netflix Turkey

        • +1

Ahhh, yes, that makes sense then :-)

Thanks I Smell Pennies for the great post

Thanks for the guides! You really need to start your own website or something. How do you go about keeping track of your previous posts to make sure they are also up to date? Can only imagine how much time goes into this amount of detail.

Thanks. I been lacking lately as I’m quite busy myself. I do these for fun in my spare time and to help others save money.

  • (profanity) me. It's days like these I wish I was neurotypical. Just so many words

    do you have youtube guide?

Thanks. Now I can watch the bogus Madelaine McCann doco that tries to convince us there was an abductor HAHA

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I signed up with a new account and got hit with the "Your account can't be used in this location" error.

I turned on a Turkish VPN and the show eventually loaded (after ages). I then stopped the VPN and then Netflix stalled when it buffered. So your trick of loading a show with VPN then turning off the VPN no longer works. This means Netflix is unusable for a month :(

How certain are you that the lockout will clear in 28-30 days?

    • I never had any success stopping the VPN after streaming started - never worked for me. Just watch with a VPN for a month. Most people in this thread have seen the lockout expire in 28-30 days.

    • I signed up in 17th July and only just came on 14th September today. I even checked 2 hours ago and wasnt working but tried again and is working. So chances are it wont be any earlier then 28 days

      • Oh no, that was my fear! Thanks for confirming, hopefully mine isn't as long!

    • +1

@preemo thank you. the lockout will be approx 28 days to the minute or hour. there have been cases it’s been earlier but very rare.

use it with VPN on if you still want to watch something within the month

  • Signed up without any issue but it requires VPN to watch. How to watch on smart TV? Is there a VPN app for smart TV too?

    • +1

A workaround is to use Chromecast TV with VPN installed.

  • I wonder if Surfshark also does work on this.🤔

    • It does. I used it to sign up without any issue.

  • I have a question for I Smell Pennies,

If I purchase multiple gift cards from a store like Turgame and top up say 5 cards, will the price be locked in at the current rate or will it get adjusted once the new rates come into effect?

    • I’d say no, you’re not prepaying, you’re just adding credit to your account.

      • Thanks for replying,

If that's the case, I think that I will take a break from Netflix once the new rates come into effect…

Looking at my watch history, I just don't watch Netflix enough in order to justify paying for it every month, even with the slight discount.

From now on I will only return to Netflix when they have an exclusive that I actually want to watch like new Stranger Things and Cobra Kai etc.

        • If you do that you will be continually serving 30 day lockouts. I'd suggest switching down to lowest cost plan

          • @DavidFW1960: What does a 30 day lockout mean?

I was under the impression that you could come and go as a Netflix customer as there isn't a contract.

With the new fee's I was going to stop paying for Netflix every month and return once or twice a year to catch up on the odd program.

If this option isn't available I might just cancel my subscription altogether especially if they introduce the extra fees for extra profiles in Turkey.

            • @Gigrantor: Every time you reactivate your account via Turkey, you're locked into the Turkish NF library for around a month, meaning you'll need a VPN to access a lot of the content that's not in the Turkey NF library. After the month is up, you can watch the AU library without any issues.

So, yes, you can come and go, but you'll have some some basic content restrictions for the first month (which can easily be surpassed with a VPN).

      • I just added 200 TL Netflix credit and my account is paid until 11 November 2023.

Previously I was paid until September 27th.

So it looks like I am currently locked in under the old rate for the time being.

That being said, I am yet to receive an email confirming the price rise…

(Edited) I noticed the below text under my current plan:

"Date is estimated and may be updated based on plan changes, taxes and fees."

    • For ongoing accounts new rates often come in effect after a grade period unless you switch plans.
E.g I was still charged at previous rate this month TL 97.99 for standard.

You do not lock in the price by adding more gift cards.

  • Is anyone else having issues with redeeming their Turkish Netflix code bought from Turgame? I get "The code entered is not valid"

edit: have double checked my VPN and it's connected to Istanbul, Turkey. Googling my IP also says I'm in Turkey

    • +1

Don't use the vpn to redeem the code. As long as your billing is shown in TL it will work fine

      • I think my code might just be invalid, tried this but no luck. It has been 2 months since purchase, it shouldnt've expired right?

Anyways I ordered a new one from Turgame to try again. It seems like a reputable site so I don't believe I got scammed or anything like that

        • @yeeterskeeter if the VPN works correctly, then that error means a problem with the gift card code

  • I heard or seems like whem debit card expired which mine does in November there is issue with updating expiry. Only just got out the lockout period and gift card runs out in october so may get one month on card.

I know there was mention about getting a form through the netflix chat. So will that update debit card and can continue to use card no issues?

Can just go down gift card route continually

    • The path of least resistance is gift cards now.

  • +2

Thanks Pennies. Signed up on 17 August using your previous guide with a 100 TL gift card and the region lock was lifted today, exactly 29 days after signing up (but before being billed for the second month).

    • Enjoy :)

      • I am now getting a message: "Payment with MASTERCARD - XXXX didn't go through. No worries - it happens. Let's update it and get you back to watching Netflix".
My card is definitely not expired and has enough funds. Any ideas? Should I attempt to change payment method to a new card via live chat?

  • Wise to Oldibul still worked for me (transfered 2 days ago and received this PM). I did send my receipt to support staff

  • I got the payment declined email although a payment was never actually attempted.

Anyway, following the process using the PingMe app, entering any phone number gives an "error" saying something went wrong, try again later…

Tried again later and PingMe has no available phone numbers.

    Fun times -_-

    • was in the same exact same situation, but after multiple attempts the system blocks you for 24 hrs.
Try again after 24hrs. Tried Ping me after a day and it worked fine :)

    • When you are on the Netflix page to try the payment method again do I have to be on Turkey VPN?

      • No VPN for changing credit card details, but turning VPN on for the Turkish phone number did make it work for me.

        • Can you add a new credit credit card which is issued in AUST?

          • @Miyagi: Yes, thats what i've done as my cc expired. but it may be dependent on your issuer.
            no issues with cba mc.

      • PingMe worked for me. I logged in using my laptop (VPN turkey), and verified the mobile number. Thanks!

Redeemed and restarted the subscription, no error. But when I open netflix on the tv or pc it says "Your account can't be used in this location".

    • +2

If only there was a FAQ that had this expected behaviour and solution…

      • It's a tough ask expecting people to read one of the most thoroughly detailed guides on OZB that answers their questions from the very get-go, despite it being constantly updated.

Not to mention a mere 3 pages of anecdotal comments that provides even more context.

        Laziness is a curse.

        • -3

I have the same error, and guess what, it's still the error after reading through FAQ. Doesn't stop me from wondering if others have the same issues recently and have successfully reverted back to an active account.

I've actually had it for other 2 weeks since redeeming now, think it's pretty naturarl to post a comment (even with the knowledge of the FAQ) to see if others have had a more permanent error.

          • @jpsnail: It's literally covered off in the very first FAQ point.

            • -2

@KangaDrew: I don't think you read my post mate, I was asking for recent experience from users who might've signed up and have bans or received errors beyond the 30 days aka a more permanent error comment.

              • @jpsnail: 1) Not a single person so far has been banned.

                2) Just wait until 28-30 days and then come back and ask. No point wondering now when everything is still going as expected.

                Have a good weekend.

                • @I Smell Pennies: Cheers, when I made the purchase 2 weeks ago. the FAQ was actually referencing to some users reporting that error but was able to watch from a “few days to 30 days.”

hence the itch to ask, copy re now a more blanket 28/30 day blackout

                  • +1

@jpsnail: @jpsnail no dramas. So the FAQ you read was from the old post I made. Now I said a few days because there were some who did say it was removed after a few days for them. They may have been lucky.

I've changed it to 28 days under this new Netflix guide post because that seems to be what 99% of people are experiencing (and myself on my test account) and to avoid people asking the same question about why theirs hasn't been unlocked.

I hope that clears everything up :)

                    • @I Smell Pennies: absolutely, and thanks for the post and the effort of testing and updating. Love your work :D

              • @jpsnail: What you think you've posted vs what you actually posted are two different things. Best you re-read your comment again.

                From jkiller295:

But when I open netflix on the tv or pc it says "Your account can't be used in this location".

                From you:

                I have the same error
I've actually had it for other 2 weeks since redeeming now

You've made no mention about "bans" or "received errors beyond the 30 days". You even stated that it has been happening within the last 2 weeks since you set it all up.

As ISP mentioned, no one has made any comments about being banned and the FAQ clearly states you need to wait ~30 days before that location error is resolved. If you still get it after day 32, then come back and ask about it.

                • -2

@KangaDrew: is your definition of the word “permanent” 28/30 days?

                  i am curious.

i said specifically i’ve read the faq, which means i am aware of the 28-30 day blackout. in fact, when the purchase was made it was referencing to some users referring to blackouts for a few days to 30 days. obviously this was updated recently.

netflix for all i know could have changed since the faq was made to a longer or permanent blackout (until maybe a local purchase was made).

my point was there is absolutely no point to be passive aggressive about users seeking help in the comment section. even if you’ve read the faq. there’s every reason to connect and ask users who might’ve had more recent experiences.

case in point, I don’t know when the FAQ was updated to state the 28-30 day blackout even if i’ve not posted a single comment but just checking the FAQ regularly for updates until today.

@KangaDrew Keyboard warrior. If you have nothing constructive to say, don't say anything.

      • Did I ask for a solution? I have read the full instructions in the OP, I'm commenting to confirm the GEO lock is still happening for others to know. Stop being a pain.

  • None of them can receive text from Netflix: SMS man; 5sim, sms activation. Netflix website returns an error after I type in the phone number..

  • Price change email just came through to me then - TL 199.99 on 17 October, 2023 - so gone up by about $4 but getting Premium for around the same price as Basic. I can live with that.

  • I had a valid AU VISA linked to my Australian account before signing up with a Turkey account using the Tukey Gift card method, no issues at all.
Once my gift card credit ran out, it attempted to charge my AU Visa but has failed. According to FAQ, I tried contacting Live chat multiple times but all the reps simply advise me to update my card details - which I can't, it fails. They do not send a pop up in the chat to update payment details.
I want to try the PING ME method but it appears I still can't add a AU card, is this method only available to payment cards issued in Turkey? I can't even get to the stage where it wants to send SMS.

  • I got an email saying "Your payment didn’t go through". I tried using the Ping Me method, when I enter the mobile number it shows an error message "something went wrong. Please try again later". Did anyone have any luck using PingMe? Also do I need to be on Turkey VPN for this? Thanks!

    • I have received the same email. Do you need to enter mobile number BEFORE adding new payment method?

  • Had this working for a year, but this post reminded me that my 28 Degrees was about to expire.

Tried several things, including your FAQ suggestion of doing a few rounds of chat roulette. First agent didn't give the CC popup, but second did. Even then, after entering the new card details, he came back with "System is getting an error, try New Payment Method, Contact Bank in Meantime".

Not sure I'll bother to go through the full process to set up again. Ah well, final month of Netflix then.

  • netflix doesnt allow you to cancel and get a refund anymore for anyone creating new accounts

  • Just came out of the lock-out period of 28 days today. Signed up on 19 Aug and can access Netflix without VPN from today (17th Sept). Thanks OP.

  • I've purchased gift cards from G2A but each time I go to enter them on the Netflix redeem page, I get the message 'An Error Occurred during gift redemption - please try again later.' Any ideas on what to do next??

    • +1

'An Error Occurred during gift redemption - please try again later.'

      1. Go to netflix.com/clearcookies to clear the Netflix cookie; this will sign you out of your account.

      2. Go to netflix.com/redeem and try to redeem your gift card again.

If you still see this message, it could mean that your card has not been activated yet by the merchant. Please wait 24 hours before trying to redeem your gift card again. If you continue to see this error, please contact us.

    • I'm getting this too. Did you have any luck ?
      Thanks

  • I've made transfer from Wise to Oldubil but Wise asked me for Foreign ID number or Turkish ID number. Anyone know how to bypass it?

  • -2

May I have clarity from someone who has experience please - to add/update the credit card on file AFTER you have successfully created a Turkey Netflix account. Is this possible? FAQ is unclear, I have seen some feedback where users have advised to use PINGME method noted in FAQ (and use AUST credit credit card) whereas others have noted that it is not possible and must sign up with Netflix Aust again, add valid credit card and start the process all over again.

Is it time to move to Pakistan? Cheapest premium Netflix according to spreadsheet above!

    • +1

Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Edypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.

So yes, if you move to Pakistan and get a local bank account, it's the way to go.

  • Managed to update my expired credit card for Netflix Turkey.

Did a live chat (vpn to turkey - not sure if this bit is important or not) and one of my new cards works.

    • Was it a 28 Degrees or something else?

      • +1

my 28D failed. the one that works is my bankwest debit card.

  • My initial TRY balance from the gift card when I set it up ran out and I assumed it would take money from my original payment method, but signed in today showing that a backup payment method (28degrees) does not exist.

Tried updating the payment through the website portal, didn’t work. Tried with Windscribe VPN on and off, didn’t work either way.

Went on live chat to ask for update portal, was asked if I was travelling right now, (yes), where am I accessing Netflix from, (turkey), and if I was using a VPN, (no). Then I was told that a vpn was detected so to try restarted my network settings and try again.

In the end, just gave up with the chat and went on TURGAME to buy some gift cards. Redeemed immediately. Now I just need to set a reminder to get more gift cards periodically I guess..

  • I actually wanted to ask this question, can anyone tell me if you are the sole user of the Netflix account and aren't sharing it, can you still access other libraries in other regions with a VPN? I haven't had time to try signing up again since my Wise card was cancelled that I was paying with.

Edit : I also just tried the PingMe and it seems you need cryptocurrency to pay for the temporary phone number for SMS verification. Can anyone tell me the easiest way/where to signup to buy some cryptocurrency? I am guessing Crypto.com? If so, seems like too much of a hassle now.

Edit: Those of you that went the giftcard route, how much does it end up costing for the gift card in AUD once you pay the fees etc.?

  • If my visa debit is shown in the accounts page, does this mean it has been accepted? I'm worried that after my giftcard runs out and the visa debit is charged, it'll be rejected. Is this a possibility?

  • +1

Just wanted to say big thanks ISP! Ban lifted on day 30 and back to watching Netflix. Still a much better deal than AUS pricing even with the hikes.

    • Enjoy!

    • Spoke too soon. Failed to charge 28d on the renewal date. Guess I’m off to try my luck with live chat.

      • Solved through chat. First agent wouldn’t help me without a phone number. Second agent gave me the secure form straight away and it’s back. Hopefully will last this time with Amex!
