Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions

Netflix has [very quietly] rolled out a price hike for Turkey and told absolutely nobody about it. I can't even find a single news article about it Well actually I found one lol. Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read. Netflix Turkey (Premium) now has a 264% price increase in just over a year! Luckily, Turkey is still safe from Netflix's Password Sharing restrictions.

Anyway, you all know the drill - new prices = new guide. This guide is the best guide I'm made so far. There are now 3 complete methods to sign up. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

This new guide has now been updated to include:

  • Further clarification regarding the 1-month lockout period for new sign-ups to Netflix Turkey. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • Further clarification regarding problems related to payment issues that arise a few months after signing up, including steps to take when you encounter the "update payment method" issue. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • Further clarification and instructions for those who wish to bypass Gift Cards and verify using a Turkish phone number via PingMe (Method 2).
  • Further clarification and instructions for those who wish to reload their account with Netflix Turkey Gift Cards.
  • New Netflix Turkey pricing and new statistics.
  • More screenshots to better guide you through the sign-up process.

Similar to my last post, I'm resharing this guide after previous deal post expired due to a price increase by Netflix. This is the third price hike for Turkey in the period of just over a year.

  • Turkey is definitely no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they increased prices multiple times (Example: Premium plan from TL₺54.99 to TL₺77.99 to TL₺93.99 to TL₺130.99 to TL₺199.99 in a span of just over a year). That's a 264% price increase in just over a year!
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Edypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.
  • NEW Sept 2023!! Netflix Argentina is now ARS1,649 (A$7.40) for the Basic Plan and ARS3,999 (A$17.94) for the Premium Plan (in the last Netflix post, Argentina prices were ARS999 (A$6.10) for the Basic Plan and ARS2,399 (A$14.64) for the Premium Plan). In the post before that, Argentina prices were Argentina prices were ARS699 (A$4.27) for the Basic Plan and ARS1,899 (A$11.59) for the Premium Plan). Despite the Argentina Peso crashing a ton, these new plan prices are extremely ridiculous for these countries. That's a 136% and 111% price increase, respectively, in just under a year! To make matters worse, Netflix Argentina now has the new password sharing feature for additional costs of ARS699 per slot per month.

Instructions – Method #1 (Using Turkey Netflix Gift Cards)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month OR you would like to use Turkey Netflix Gift Cards moving forward.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership)

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card (any value is fine, even if it's not enough to cover the full month)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery (at night time AEST), they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Australian account with a VPN on gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card See this screenshot:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

Possible Problem: When redeeming the Turkey Netflix Gift Card, it gives an error (code invalid, etc)
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed. If after several VPNs and this issue still occurs, try to reach out to your place of purchase due to them possibly issuing you an incorrect code

  5. Follow the prompts of the sign up process. This screenshot will show the first page after applying the gift card. Click "Next" to land on this page. Choose the plan you want, then click "Next" to land on the payment page in step 6

  6. Proceed by choosing a backup payment method. Be careful with this step and look at the screenshot!

    • If you did Part 1 instructions correctly then your payment method is already saved within your account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom. On the next page, click "Next" (see screenshot). Now Netflix will want to confirm your details to make sure it is correct as per (this screenshot). Double check, tick the checkbox and start your membership!

    • Otherwise, if for some reason you haven't done Part 1 correctly or your debit/credit card has expired, you will have to add a new debit/credit card (see screenshot). Beward this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification (which I guarantee you don't have otherwise you would have done Part 2) - if this happens, please complete Part 1 again (see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: If you bought a gift card that has a higher value than your selected plan, you’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

Instructions – Method #2 (Using your Australian Debit/Credit Card, Requires PingMe App for Turkey SMS Verification)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month.

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix on a new tab and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method.

  5. Enter a Turkish phone number for the SMS verification process.

You can use the service from "PingMe" to obtain a Turkish number for Netflix's SMS verification purposes for just a few dollars. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Turkey SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Turkey (+90)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

  6. You're done! Enjoy your membership :)

Instructions – Method #3 (Using your OlduBil Turkish Virtual Mastercard) - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS METHOD ANYMORE

Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership).

  1. Log in to your Australian Netflix account, or sign up for an account. Make sure you log in with VPN turned off (logging into your Australian account with a VPN gives an error).

  2. Activate a VPN service, and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs, where possible.

Possible Problem: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  3. With VPN on, refresh the main netflix webpage. Alternatively, go to this link:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check and/or change your VPN if needed

  4. Click on "Restart Membership" and follow the prompts of the sign up process. Click "Next and then select the plan you want. Click "Next"and then click "Credit or debit card". Enter your OlduBil Virtual Mastercard details, full name, tick the T&Cs declaration, and then click "Start Membership".

  5. At this stage you're done. Don’t enter anything on this page. Netflix will ask some random questions (just to set up your account). After that, your account will be complete, and you can enjoy your subscription!

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: New sign-ups to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This lockout period will last approximately 28-30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch most shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise an error will pop up preventing you from watching anything). You can turn off the VPN after the show/movie has loaded for faster connection. This minor hassle for a month is well worth the savings in the long term.

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Turkey. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Turkey VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Turkey for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Turkey phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Turkish number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Turkey phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ above.

Q: How do I add Netflix Turkey Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: Log in and go to account settings. Click on Redeem gift card or promo code and redeem your Gift Cards there. You should be able to do this without a VPN. If it doesn't work, try with a VPN.

Q: I get an error when redeeming gift cards?
A: This is a VPN problem. Most likely the VPN server has been flagged. Double check or change your VPN if needed. In that rare 1% chance it's not a VPN problem, you may have a troubled gift card.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

    did anybody do it successfully???

  • Can't apply gift card:
Sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again later.
I am connected to VPN Turkey. So I guess gift card no longer works…

    • Was it a Turkey gift card?

      • Yes.

      • Works now. Maybe the gift card takes time to activate?

  • +1

Thank you again @I Smell Pennies

I used the live chat to ring into my credit card details after being blocked and they posted a form for me to fill in and I was up and running within a few minutes.

Appreciate all your effort on this. You've saved me lots of time and money for many services.

  • So i get the message "Your account is on hold because of a problem with your last payment." now, i guess my month is up, what do I do now? buy another gift card?

    • Did you add your credit card as the payment method after your initial gift card payment went through?

    • Did you add a credit card as back up payment. If you did not then you need to vpn under turkey to live chat and say you received this message and they will send you a form to fill out to update CC. If they ask too many questions then end chat and start again till you get someone who just sends the form to you. If you are wanting to keep paying with GC then go ahead but this can get repetitive and tedious after a while

  • Turgame payments don't seem to go through. I get "failed" - I chose Credit or debit card - IYZI as payment option

  • Ended up buying a gift card from G2a but it cost $6.67 not $5.90?

    • different seller?
      Mine comes up as $6.70

  • Got today the price increase email to 149.99 TRL, but only gets applied from November onwards.

So far I have just been using giftcards. I feel it's time Netflix updates the value of the giftcards, so one can buy higher denominations. Gets annoying to buy multiple 100 or 200 TRL gift cards.

    • 200 TRY is perfectly fine as it covers the full premium plan price for the month. Just buy 5-6 cards and you've got half a years supply. It takes about 10 seconds to redeem a GC so it's not exactly a time consuming process. Cost reduction benefits far outweigh the time it takes to redeem a GC.

  • Seems I've managed to resolve my payment issue with the new card using VPN and Pingme and immediately for charged $11.

Now I just need the "Your account can't be used in this location" to go away on my tv.

    • Thanks for telling us you got it working via PingMe. Good to see that method is working for some people.

      • -1

They accepted my NAB card which was nice.
I made the original switch to Turkey 25Sept but had the payment problem and just left it.
Hopefully my geo lock timer started from then and not from yesterday when I finally fixed the payment issue.

  • Geo lock lifted exactly 28 days, Ty!

  • Geo blocked also lifted after 28 days. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the guide. I've successfully resubscribed through Turkey. I used a Citibank debit card. I'll see what happens at next payment date.

    • Using NordVPN apps successfully on Shield devices to get around the 28-30 day GEO Block.

  • I struck a problem trying to add a TL₺200 giftcard from Turgame; no matter what, I got errors saying the card was invalid, or there was a problem and to try again later. I tried different VPN providers but the problem persisted. In the end it wasn't a VPN problem. I raised a ticket with Turgame and got this response:

There is no problem with the code given to you. You can install by following the steps below.
Follow the steps below. While doing these operations, the VPN will be on and you will be connected to the Turkey IP. (If you still have problems, use a different VPN service.)
    1. Connect to VPN

    2. Select any city in Turkey.

    3. Login to gmail new account creation page.

    4. Get a new email address.

    5. Open the Netflix code download page.

    6. Type the code.

    7. Enter the e-mail address you just received on the page that opens and continue to upload.

    8. After the installation, you can turn off the VPN and watch netflix by typing this e-mail on your country’s IP.

    9. When you upload to the same mail address, you can connect to Turkey IP with VPN and upload.

    10. You cannot upload the code you received from us to an account that you did not receive from a Turkish IP.
    VERY IMPORTANT NOTE
Upload each code with a different IP. For this, for each code, first reset your modem and then install it.

    Note point 10!

I didn't follow everything exactly because I didn't want to screw up my Netflix profile and I didn't want to start from scratch. First I connected to Turkey by VPN and opened a new gmail account. I turned off the VPN, changed my Netflix account email address to the one created in Turkey, and left Netflix still logged in. Connecting to Turkey again I was able to add the giftcard code. An added bonus was the relentless captcha garbage was not quite so out of control.

Despite points 8 and 9 above, which aren't exactly clear anyway, the account is still geoblocked. Perhaps I needed to log out of Netflix and back in again, but I'll leave it alone. Anyway, we can now watch Netflix using a VPN and we'll wait out the 28 days.

Has anyone else run into a similar problem with TL₺ giftcards only applying to a Netflix account with an email address created while using a Turkish IP?

@I Smell Pennies, thank you for all your efforts. Perhaps this can be added to a FAQ somewhere.

    • This just happened to me with a G2A code, thank you for the steps!

  • Got an email saying Price increase to TRY 199.99/month. Wasn't it already that price for premium?

    • +1

No, it used to be ₺130,99 as stated in the post.

        • It's a standard notice. Most organisations update their terms on a semi-regular basis so this general advice isn't anything to be too concerned about.

Got the dreaded "your payment was unsuccessful" message. Tried the "PingMe" option and - although the reviews were not positive - it worked for me. Installed the app, then verified my account in PingMe using an email address. Then "recharged" - I tried to get 5 coins but it said they didn't have enough available. Ok. Sure. So I went for 2 coins ($3.89). I then fired up my vpn and logged into netflix and went into my account. I added in a new payment method - which was actually the same card I was using before. It then prompted for a Turkish mobile number for verification. Back to the app, and went to verification. Chose "netflix", Turkey, and "one time use only". I put the provided mobile number into the Netflix prompt and it then asked for the verification number. I waited. Nothing happened - no text. I thought it had not worked. I tried hitting the refresh icon in the app and nothing. I was wondering if I should give up and maybe try again, but then like magic a code appeared. Tapped that in to Netflix hoped like heck that it hadn't timed out, but all good. Renewed. Logged out of the Netflix session on the vpn, and was able to go back in to Netflix normally. It cost 0.94 coins, so I have just over 1 coin left. So was charged $11.55 for the subscription, and $3.89 for pingme - so this month my Premium subscription cost me $15.44. Still cheaper than Standard. I can live with that. :-)

    • Why not buy 12 month worth of gift cards from G2A?

      • Well, don't have to get multiple gift cards that have a premium and potential risk of issues redeeming & having to chase that up…. not saying it's a bad choice, and I'm not a huge fan of saving my credit card details with any site (Hello, Optus?), and I definitely would have done it had the text verification thing failed, but it's easier to just have the payments taken out automatically from the credit card. :-)

    • When I try to put in the turkish number it tells me there is an error

      • Don't know, sorry. Worked for me, but if it doesn't work for you there's always plan B ie use gift cards….

      • Got the same issue. Have you able to resolved it?

  • Has everyone here had a price increase yet?

As far as I tell I am still paying the old rate and I haven't received an email notification telling me of the rate increase.

    Not that I'm complaining…

I currently have 169.01 TL Netflix credit and my account is paid until 5 December 2023.

    • Your monthly price will change to TL 199.99 on xx October, 2023.

      Still cheap

      • I haven't received that notification yet…

        • You'll receive it either the same day (or the day after) your next payment is made.

  • When I try the PingMe number, I get this error
"Sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again later."

Has anyone seen this error? Any idea how to resolve it?

    • I'm getting the same issue. Signed up successfully I initially with gift card now this error comes up.

  • For those struggling to change payment methods on an already established account: Purchased and loaded my Netflix Turkey account with gift cards while on VPN.

  • Getting nervous. Sunday was 28 days from when I first applied the gift card but I'm still geoblocked

I did cancel it again briefly after that till I got my updated payment method sorted last week. Wonder if that's restarted my Geo block timer.

    • It can take up to 31 days. 32 for some others in earlier threads. But if you've cancelled and restarted, I daresay your clock with start over.

      • Well I'm still blocked. Hopefully it's just from stopping and starting my Turkish account and will come good mid Nov.
I'm assuming I can convert it back to an Aussie account if needed.

        • Any update?

          • @bxy00: Just checked.
"Your account can't be used in this location"
I'll wait til 16Nov which is a month from when I reactivated the Turkish account to update my card.

If it's still no good I'll have to revert back. I'm not sure if that's even possible.

  • it is asking mobile number now to send otp :(

Try chatting to them with your VPN on Turkey, from here:

"This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Turkey. There are two ways to get around this issue:

You can contact Netflix Live Chat (help.netflix.com) and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again."

      • Thanks- helpful pointers, only took two operators. I lead upfront with 'I was told to log in here to verify my account and the operator would send me a payment popup'…first operator said no, second did it straight away.

Cant watch on mobile without a vpn. Is this normal?

    • There's a 30day wait for the geo-blocking to stop

  • Had the "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" problem and used answer 1 in the FAQs, just changed to a different card on the Netflix chat and it's working again. Thanks for adding that info!

    • What was the answer? I tried with live chat and got the form via the chat but card still declined.

      • Did you try a card from a different bank? Macquarie worked for me

    • I have never had a chat agent send me that popup, they always send me an email telling me to update my details on the website.

  • Just resolved the payment issue. I had to use VPN to Turkey then went to Netflix website and use Pingme's number to get message and it's all confirmed now.

  • Problem: the saved credit card expired
    Solution:
Tried method 2. But I didn't receive any verification code via Pingme - even though I purchased 5 coins (wasted $10) - I think for some ppl Pingme just doesn't work. My suggestion is no wasting your money in this method or at least don't buy too many coins.
What worked for me was connecting with VPN to Turkey
    Go to chat
Talking to the agent and tell them the error messages pop up at the verification step because you are using an Australia credit card, something went wrong and said try again later. And you are stuck at this step.
Asking if they could send you a pop-up form in this chat, which can bypass the verification step. Don't send you an email as it doesn't work - same error message.
If you got someone who can help you in the chat, all is set for another 3 years!! If not lucky, try again later!
The most important tip: don't get this card stolen or otherwise you will update all the information again!
I used CBA credit card and it worked. (Citi bank is changing to NAB and I don't know how it works)

    • HI, I have been using gift cards this month (my second month) but I have a CBA credit card saved from when I was using NetFlix AU. Will the CBA credit card work after the Gift card credit expires?

      • Should be. I’m still on gift card this month.
I used to use Citibank but they are moving to NAB soon. I can let you know next month when my credit card got charged.

  • for 30day wait for the geo-blocking to stop, do i have to turn on VPN for 30 days without disconnecting? OR can i sometimes disconnect???

    • You can disconnect it whenever you want. You'll know when you need to reconnect the VPN to watch a particular show/movie as you'll get the error on screen saying how it's not available to watch in your location.

      • today is my 31st day but it still doesn't work :(
I can log into other countries' NETFLIX but once I press play, error pops up saying" looks like you're using VPN"

        did anybody experience this??

  • My credit card got declined and i had to re-verify my card details,

unfortunately Pingme App isn't generating turkey number, despite paying for their tokens…

Anyone else have another app to get a turkey phone verification ?

Now i will need to try and recoup my $10 donation to PingMe :(

  • My card got declined after working for the past couple of months. No idea why so I contacted customer support and they said the financial institution declined it. I panicked and bought a gift card to load money into the account. Now I'm region locked for the next month so that was a waste. Guess I'm going back to paying full Australian prices.

    • Mine has done the same now.
I've been paying via OlduBil Turkish credit card for the past few months and all of a sudden Netflix isn't accepting the OlduBil Turkish credit card.
Not sure if it's got something to do with some vague message OlduBil sent a while back about no longer accepting payments on accounts that aren't locally verified blah blah.

      • I ended up swapping from my ING card (free international transactions) to my CBA card (3% fee). Either way, I do save a lot. It makes no sense though as I'm still using my ING card for Filipino Youtube Premium and Spotify.

        • Yeah, I had to change from an ING card to an ANZ one.

Trying to redeem a my gift card but getting this error "Cannot contact reCAPTCHA. Check your connection and try again"

Seems I can apply gift cards after 1 month without a VPN. Using a VPN is what caused the captcha to popup

Hi, thank you first to @I Smell Pennies.
Such a detailed guide, and it all worked!

For anyone interested, I signed up 6th October using the Turkey gift card method.
Had to wait until about the 4th November before I could start using Netflix without a VPN.
Then on 6th November, got the dreaded payment error message.

Followed the FAQ, jumped to Netflix live chat (with Turkey VPN on), told them I've got a payment issue. Said I wanted to enter new credit card details. They gave me the form within the chat, and I used my Australian AMEX Explorer card, at it got accepted (phew!)

So I'm all set up now. Guide still working :) Fingers crossed it continues to work

  • Hello, thank you to @I Smell Pennies

Can I simply just use the Turkey Netflix Gift Cards instead?

    • That's what I've been doing. I'll 6 months worth, load it up, rinse and repeat another 6 months later. It's a bit of a drag if you do it once a month though.

      • thank you. do you need to be on a vpn to load the cards?

        • If memory serves correct, no, a VPN isn't needed to load up gift cards to your account.

        • +1

No, you don't need to be on VPN to load card to Netflix.
1 - Also… don't need to be on VPN to Purchase TURKISH Netflix giftcards from Turgame or G2A.
          - If buying from Turgame, you'll pay in Turkish Lira, so be sure your credit card doesn't get additional fees.
          - If buying from 2GA, you'll pay in Australian Dollar, but works out to be about $1 more expensive than Turgame.
2 - Once the purchase has been confirmed, you'll get the giftcards in an email.
3 - Copy the giftcard number.
4 - Of course you're logged into your Netflix account on the device you're doing all of this to make your life easier!…..
5 - Go to your Account and find the bit where it says Redeem Gift Card.
6 - Paste the giftcard and voila!

I might not have made it clear before. Don't buy Australian Netflix Gift Cards if you're topping up a Turkish Netflix account.

          • +1

@itsTricky83: Second time round doing this. I just buy a couple giftcards at a time and use this method.

            • @danzig440: Yep, first time around for me. My Turkish credit card failed after a few months, and then I tried to rectify via chat using a number of credit cards; all failed. So the trusty Gift Card option is my only way now.

              • +1

@itsTricky83: Yeah I had originally tried to do it with a Revolut card but they were failing. So yeah gift cards for me too

          • +1

@itsTricky83: Thanks, this worked as I couldn’t seem to change my card. Although I started getting an error after applying 5 200TL gift cards leaving me with 1 left I can’t redeem. Not sure if there’s some limit but will try again another time I guess…

            • @akura: I also found that I couldn't load more than 5 gift cards. I think someone else on here found the same and said that they used Netflix Chat support to load the additional gift card/s.
I'm yet to give that a go but will try when I have time.

  • Had my Citibank CC on file being charged 130.99 TL for the past 6 months.. got notified that my account was on hold until I made this months payment. Logged in and noticed they didn't charge me this month, but also removed my CC from my account. CC was not expired, so it's very strange - although it coincides with the price hike, since my last charge was October and now they're asking for 199.99 TL.

Did Method 2 and paid for 1 coin, and was able to receive an SMS to update my CC with the same one as before.

They must have used the price hike as an opportunity to do a wipe of mismatching CC's? Who knows. But thank you for the guide, once again!

    • I'm having the same prob, valid cc but they seemed to have not charged me since the price hike. Pingme isn't working to update my card though unfortunately… Keep getting an error on the verification screen when putting in the number

      • Pingme worked fine for me

  • I signed up for this 16/3/23 and my aus credit card stopped working Nov 9th.
I purchased a Turgame Turkey Netflix gift card today, but couldn't redeem it with message "…try again later" (using Urban VPN).
I used Netflx Chat and the agent was able to redeem the gift card code.
    Thank you for excellent guide.

    • Don't use a VPN to redeem card on Netflix

      • Thank you!

      • Netflix wouldn't accept my Turgame giftcards until I turned on my VPN.

  • Alrighty Aphrodite, my geolock has been unlocked.

Seems the 28 day geolock was restarted when I reactivated my account after previously cancelling it for a couple of weeks due to my updated CC details not being accepted.

My mum got the sh1t5 and switched to her own account during the lock. Wonder if she'll call me her son again.

    Cheers

  • It's been 2 months since I've surpassed the 30 day geo-locking upon re-sign up.

I have to turn on VPN and set to different countries in order to have netflix work.

I am currently travelling and netflix doesn't work without VPN.

Does anybody have guidance on how to resolve this?

    • I contacted Live Chat and they say that I cannot use netflix whilst travelling and watch content, and I need to pay the 'local subscription price' in order to continue using netflix.

Anybody encounter Geo-locking during travelling due to the new household policy?

Any guidance and sharing would be appreciated!

      • What country are u in?

        • currently in Hong Kong

          • @howard22: Yeah, when I am in HK I use a PureVPN account back to Australia to make the Tukey Netflix account work. Its the only country within our region where I’ve encountered the issue.

            • @Markusaus: I had the same problem in Thailand and Vietnam this year.

    • Start your vpn on mobile, connect to the country and pay for a month . Geotagging works when you move to another country and you might have to keep the VPN on everytime you watch Netflix depending on the location.

      • Yes I find using VPN going back to Australia works - but not for any other country.

        Does that sound correct?

  • +1

You can use E-Pin opportunities for Oldbil peeps. Buy the code straight off the app. Use up whatever is left.

  • I'm thinking of taking a break from Netflix so I can catch up on content from other services…

What's the longest time that I can take a break before I have to go through the process of being Geo locked to Turkey for 30 days again?

    • My geolock restarted after cancelling my account for only a couple of weeks. Although I was only a week into my first geolock when I cancelled for those 2 weeks.
