Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions

Netflix has [very quietly] rolled out a price hike for Turkey and told absolutely nobody about it. I can't even find a single news article about it Well actually I found one lol. Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read. Netflix Turkey (Premium) now has a 264% price increase in just over a year! Luckily, Turkey is still safe from Netflix's Password Sharing restrictions.

Anyway, you all know the drill - new prices = new guide. This guide is the best guide I'm made so far. There are now 3 complete methods to sign up. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

This new guide has now been updated to include:

  • Further clarification regarding the 1-month lockout period for new sign-ups to Netflix Turkey. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • Further clarification regarding problems related to payment issues that arise a few months after signing up, including steps to take when you encounter the "update payment method" issue. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • Further clarification and instructions for those who wish to bypass Gift Cards and verify using a Turkish phone number via PingMe (Method 2).
  • Further clarification and instructions for those who wish to reload their account with Netflix Turkey Gift Cards.
  • New Netflix Turkey pricing and new statistics.
  • More screenshots to better guide you through the sign-up process.

Similar to my last post, I'm resharing this guide after previous deal post expired due to a price increase by Netflix. This is the third price hike for Turkey in the period of just over a year.

  • Turkey is definitely no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they increased prices multiple times (Example: Premium plan from TL₺54.99 to TL₺77.99 to TL₺93.99 to TL₺130.99 to TL₺199.99 in a span of just over a year). That's a 264% price increase in just over a year!
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Edypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.
  • NEW Sept 2023!! Netflix Argentina is now ARS1,649 (A$7.40) for the Basic Plan and ARS3,999 (A$17.94) for the Premium Plan (in the last Netflix post, Argentina prices were ARS999 (A$6.10) for the Basic Plan and ARS2,399 (A$14.64) for the Premium Plan). In the post before that, Argentina prices were Argentina prices were ARS699 (A$4.27) for the Basic Plan and ARS1,899 (A$11.59) for the Premium Plan). Despite the Argentina Peso crashing a ton, these new plan prices are extremely ridiculous for these countries. That's a 136% and 111% price increase, respectively, in just under a year! To make matters worse, Netflix Argentina now has the new password sharing feature for additional costs of ARS699 per slot per month.

Instructions – Method #1 (Using Turkey Netflix Gift Cards)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month OR you would like to use Turkey Netflix Gift Cards moving forward.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership)

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card (any value is fine, even if it's not enough to cover the full month)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery (at night time AEST), they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Australian account with a VPN on gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card See this screenshot:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

Possible Problem: When redeeming the Turkey Netflix Gift Card, it gives an error (code invalid, etc)
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed. If after several VPNs and this issue still occurs, try to reach out to your place of purchase due to them possibly issuing you an incorrect code

  5. Follow the prompts of the sign up process. This screenshot will show the first page after applying the gift card. Click "Next" to land on this page. Choose the plan you want, then click "Next" to land on the payment page in step 6

  6. Proceed by choosing a backup payment method. Be careful with this step and look at the screenshot!

    • If you did Part 1 instructions correctly then your payment method is already saved within your account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom. On the next page, click "Next" (see screenshot). Now Netflix will want to confirm your details to make sure it is correct as per (this screenshot). Double check, tick the checkbox and start your membership!

    • Otherwise, if for some reason you haven't done Part 1 correctly or your debit/credit card has expired, you will have to add a new debit/credit card (see screenshot). Beward this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification (which I guarantee you don't have otherwise you would have done Part 2) - if this happens, please complete Part 1 again (see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: If you bought a gift card that has a higher value than your selected plan, you’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

Instructions – Method #2 (Using your Australian Debit/Credit Card, Requires PingMe App for Turkey SMS Verification)

Please read the following instructions carefully. Use this method if you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month.

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix on a new tab and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method.

  5. Enter a Turkish phone number for the SMS verification process.

You can use the service from "PingMe" to obtain a Turkish number for Netflix's SMS verification purposes for just a few dollars. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Turkey SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Turkey (+90)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

  6. You're done! Enjoy your membership :)

Instructions – Method #3 (Using your OlduBil Turkish Virtual Mastercard) - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS METHOD ANYMORE

Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership).

  1. Log in to your Australian Netflix account, or sign up for an account. Make sure you log in with VPN turned off (logging into your Australian account with a VPN gives an error).

  2. Activate a VPN service, and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)

In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  3. With VPN on, refresh the main netflix webpage. Alternatively, go to this link:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check and/or change your VPN if needed

  4. Click on "Restart Membership" and follow the prompts of the sign up process. Click "Next and then select the plan you want. Click "Next"and then click "Credit or debit card". Enter your OlduBil Virtual Mastercard details, full name, tick the T&Cs declaration, and then click "Start Membership".

  5. At this stage you're done. Don’t enter anything on this page. Netflix will ask some random questions (just to set up your account). After that, your account will be complete, and you can enjoy your subscription!

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: New sign-ups to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This lockout period will last approximately 28-30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch most shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise an error will pop up preventing you from watching anything). You can turn off the VPN after the show/movie has loaded for faster connection. This minor hassle for a month is well worth the savings in the long term.

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Turkey. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Turkey VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Turkey for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Turkey phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Turkish number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Turkey phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ above.

Q: How do I add Netflix Turkey Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: Log in and go to account settings. Click on Redeem gift card or promo code and redeem your Gift Cards there. You should be able to do this without a VPN. If it doesn't work, try with a VPN.

Q: I get an error when redeeming gift cards?
A: This is a VPN problem. Most likely the VPN server has been flagged. Double check or change your VPN if needed. In that rare 1% chance it's not a VPN problem, you may have a troubled gift card.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely!

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

      • Although I was only a week into my first geolock when I cancelled

Did you pay for a month and then cancelled after a week? Did you get a refund for the month?

        • I applied a gift card but didn't bother trying to get any refund and eventually cancelled as I couldn't update CC info. I restarted it and managed to get the CC working.

      • Rather than cancelling, I might just have a months break seeing that my service is dependant on gift cards.

Does anyone know how long Netflix keeps accounts active once credit runs out?

  • As well as Oldubil Turkish Credit card not working for Netflix (and having to use Netflix Turkey Gift Cards as a workaround), I'm now also getting declined for YouTube Premium!

So I'm now fairly sure this is an issue with the Oldubil Turkey credit card. I'm going to hazard a guess that it no longer works because:
    - I'm not 'Verified' on my Oldubil acocunt (and there's seemingly no method/link to get verified)
    - There was some cryptic Oldubil app notification some months ago about them no longer accepting transactions for non verified residents. I can't for the life of me recall exactly what that message said but I remember at the time thinking "Hmm I wonder if that means my card will stop!.

There unfortunately doesn't appear to be an easy way to get the remaining funds back out of Oldubil. But then again, I'm glad I only have a around AU$20 worth on the oldubil account.

Just thought I'd share my thoughts! Not that they actually help anyone to solve this problem!… keep using the workaround of Netflix Giftcards from Turgame is my best suggestion.

    • Purchase one of the Netflix e-pins, they're only available in 200TR dominations, but work exactly the same as buying a Netflix gift card.

  • +1

Info share: my new 28d card declined when trying to update. The VPN chat trick also failed with the new 28d card. I tried again but with my CBA card via chat & was accepted.

  • +1

More info. My NAB Visa debt card worked on the normal page for adding a CC.

    • Can you please confirm that you don't need VPN to add your NAB card?

      • It was a month ago sorry, I can't recall if I needed it. Was definitely able to do it via the normal update payment method page.

        • Didn't work if I had to do it myself. However, using Live Chat function, I was able to add NAB Visa Debit card. Unfortunately, my 28 Degrees card was also rejected. Looks like Netflix only accepting debit cards now.

          • @Gorodemon: Hmmm my 28 degrees card failed yesterday.. :(

  • I've added a new payment method so it's all good now. But is there a point of purchasing gift cards still if charging my card works directly? It'll save the hassle of purchasing from turgame every few months

    • +1

If your card's working save the headache and give the GC a miss.

      • But do gift cards still work?

I've been buying mine from Turgame and so far they have worked pretty well…

        • They do, but if my cc can be charged directly it saves me the time of buying buying gift cards every couple of months

  • my NAB visa debit card worked as well - wallet got stolen and had to cancel my cards (waited 1 month 6 days for the geo-lock before being able to use Netflix again without VPN)

  • Is it possible to do PingMe method with Pakistan or Egypt?

  • It worked with method 2 today.

    Thank you

  • My Card expired and plan is now expired, just wondering, can I go on Turkey VPN and add 200TRY giftcard to reactivate? or secondly, can I renew with the lowest AU plan (with ads) add card then change it back to Turkey premium?

  • -1

I have signed up successfully but now when I try to watch something it says "your account can't be used in this location"
Anyone know how to resolve this?

    • +1

Wait 28 days for the geo-block to stop, use VPN in the meantime.

      • signed up today but geolock wont let me watch.
So after 28 days geolock won't be an issue?
How to use VPN to watch on TV/Phone?
        TIA

        • Region lock will last for anywhere between 28 to 31 days. You can still watch Netflix without the VPN, but many titles won't be available due to the lock, so the only way you can watch those titles is via your VPN.

          • @KangaDrew:

Region lock will last for anywhere between 28 to 31 days. You can still watch Netflix without the VPN

Pretty sure no titles are available without VPN. Do you have any example of this? I tried quite a lot when I was locked out and they all had the error.

            • @CodeXD: When I setup mine about 4-5 months back, I was able to access and watch some TV shows/movies, but I'll admit it was fairly limited without the VPN. In saying that, Netflix may have changed things since then, but I was definitely able to continue watching some titles after I switched to Türkiye. I thought that was expected behaviour.

          • @KangaDrew: I can’t actually see titles, the msg appears upon login on TV. Works using VPN on PC

  • Thanks 👍

  • I need to update my card info. I just bought one coin in Pingme but it says insufficient credit to get a verification sms. Do you now need more than one coin? How many do I need to buy?

    • Happened to me as well, just close the app, grab a coffee and try again.

      • Thanks. Finally worked. Though Netflix gave an error when I tried to update the existing Mastercard debit card from Macquarie. And Netflix wouldn't let me add Citi Mastercard. Finally Amex was accepted. Is Netflix having a problem with Mastercard?

  • I have a gift card, but when I try redeeming it, I get an error message saying "Cannot contact reCAPTCHA. Check your connection and try again."
    What should I do? :'(

    • turn off ad blocker

      • I've already disabled my adblocker, still getting the same error message

        • Turn off the vpn

          • @DavidFW1960: I tried that, got redirected to the AU Netflix and so couldn't redeem the GC that way either.
Btw I'm trying Method 1, should have mentioned that earlier, sorry.

            • @e8s5: it shouldn't matter. As long as your billing amount is in TL not AUD you should be able to redeem the TL giftcard on AU netflix site. Maybe try clear cache etc or a different browser

            • @e8s5: Login to Netflix without VPN. Once logged in, then turn VPN on for Turkey and redeem the gift card. That's what works for me.

  • How much time does it take to get Netflix gift card through turgame? Its been an hour.

    • The opening hours of turgame mean you will probably be waiting till 5PM our time. It will come just be patient

      • Yeah..got it after an hour. Signed up for netflix. It was smooth.

  • My 28degrees card has stopped working with netflix and no idea why.

Tried to use pingme, despite buying a token, it wont let me do anything says no credit… but i bought a token? Gah!!

    • What a waste of money pingme and textme was. Both not working for me. Anyway, update to Citi Visa debit via live chat pop up so hopefully it works next month. Put a gift card on for this month.

  • Thanks! Just now signed up as per instructed in "Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey" too easy to follow and most of all BIG saving in this day and age for which I'm thankful for…and now to make the most out of the subscription!

  • Just for fun I thought I try adding some Turkish giftcards to my account.
Took two goes for 28deg card to work. The second effort triggered contact from 28deg to check it was legit.
Connected to VPN and was able to load the GCs to my account's email.

    • cry

and then ctrl+f the error because it is explained in description

  • Thanks OP! Was going good with the process in method # 2, issue is that I am not receiving any verfication code in pingme app. So tried new numbers couple of times and now pingme says no numbers available now! Wondering if anyone had the same problem?
note: I am connected to turkey VPN (checked) and payment using aus credit card was declided so was going to verify phone number!
    TIA

  • If I change plans will it reset geo lock?

    • +1

      No

      • Thanks

  • Did anyone else get the email on price hike again? “Your monthly price will change to TL 149.99 (Standard) on 3 January, 2024.”

    • Realising this was already the price from OP, not sure why I’ve just got an email about it.

  • Would anyone know if you're able to change the card attached to your account without hassles after setting up?

  • Hello, i can't verify my phone number (my real number, but the confirmation code didn't come). Is this still possible to do it?

    • I too had the same issue that Netflix wouldn't send the verification message to my phone. I had an inactive plan. I activiated my plan (via Netflix Aus) and then reverified and the text came straight through.

TLDR: It appears Netflix won't send you the phone verification text unless you have an active plan.

  • Has anyone had their details leaked after buy a gift card from turgame? Someone knew all my details and tried to use my credit card in England. Trying to narrow down and this looks like it might be it

    • Also when I click on my invoice it is showing me someone else’s invoice from 2 weeks later? Weird

    • i've purchased via turgame a few times, and recently had a card compromised (saw it happening live… random transactions just started flowing!).
i can't in it on turgame, it could have been any of the thousands of transactions i've done.

Lesson learnt though. i have a wise account, I'll be using throwaway cards for anything slightly suspect in future!

      • +1

That sucks, yeah there's only a small handful of sites mine could be.

  • I dont know what is goin on but i cannot update payment method even via live chat. It won't accept my NAB visa debit, won't accept uBank visa debit… this is all after my 28 degrees card failed mysteriously last bill cycle. I managed to get live chat to update it to my citi visa debt but that will expire next month due to this bloody NAB takeover and the NAB card just like the uBank (owned by NAB) decline. FML!!!!

    • +1

get a Wise account (wise.com). I just had to update my payment method, no issue with Wise (via live chat).

      • Thanks. Free or fees? Is it just a once off $10 form the card or?

        • +1

No ongoing fees, i don’t remember fees for new accounts/cards, i’ve had the account for a long time.

  • fantastic guide, I've done a few of these types of things (youtube and spotify) and this guide worked a treat! I was a bit scared with the mobile number but worked fine!

I used my 28deg card to sign up to AU (and get the refund) then to get a new NordVPN account, both went through fine. I had issues using it to sign up to the Tk Netflix however, just refused to be accepted. I used my regular Citibank Plat, worked first time no problems. When I tried to add in my 28deg as a backup card after, just kept refusing to even be added. I called 28deg and didn't help at all, they have no blocks and couldn't see any declined transactions. I tried with VPN to Tk and without VPN to Tk.
    Anybody else have similar?

I had the SAME problem with Youtube Philippines, didn't like the 28deg no matter what I tried, eventually used the old trusty Citibank Plat and it went through first time. Bit annoying when I see the international fees on the citi every month :(

    • Same here as i shared above. My 28 degrees card worked for years, then payment failed. Changed to Citi Debit successfully…. but now thats changing to NAB debit due to takeover… tried to add NAB debit, just fails. Tried to add uBank debit, just fails. Aded a TL gift card temporarily. Now tonight tried to add NAB debit again and it worked. NFI what is going on. All via LIVE chats. Have to wait another few weeks to see if payment works.

  • We need to add in the instructions that 28 Degrees card does not work when making the payment on the Turkish Netflix site.

Like the others I had to switch over to a different card.

    Otherwise excellent guide OP!

@I Smell Pennies I have an observation to add about this FAQ:

My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?

If you're sticking with the same credit card account (i.e. just getting a new/replacement card against the same account), you may not have to do anything.

My 28 Degrees card was coming up for renewal so I thought I'd prepare in advance by adding replacement cards. Netflix wouldn't accept my partner's 28 Degrees card number so resorted to using a debit card as others have suggested which worked. I left the 28 Degrees card on there as a secondary.

Separately, my new 28 Degrees card got lost in the mail, so I had to get Latitude to send me a replacement. This, however, changed the card number as they had to invalidate the old cards.

Received the new card (take 2) in the mail and activated it a few days ago. Just happened to log into Netflix billing by chance today and found the 28 Degrees card has been updated to the new card number!

Found some old discussions that theorize Netflix might be leveraging Mastercard ABU or VAU to do this:

In short - if you're keeping the same credit card account you may not need to do anything after all. But it may not be a bad idea to add a backup card just in case.

    • My 28 Degrees card currently in use on my account expired last month. New card has the same number but obviously new expiry date, but I can't update it on my Netflix account. The next payment is in a couple of days time on 29/12. I guess I will just wait and see what happens?

      • I was in the same predicament as you and just decided to wait. Unsurprisingly Netflix decided it didn't care and charge me anyway.

        • This is on Netflix Turkey?

      • Mine was charged for months after the expiry of the old card. It only forced me to update when I switched to Turkey NF.

      • @sschen did your card expiry update automatically ?

    • +1

@NitroJolt will be included in my next guide, will be published tomorrow when I have the time.

  • I seem to have lost a whole bunch of Korean shows off netflix including singles inferno today.
Anyone else notice this? is it related to a Turkey account?

    • How long have you had your Turkey netflix account for? I can still see it in mine.

  • Had a netflix turkish account for years using Wise credit card which just expired. Tried updating to a new card but needed a Turkish SMS number for verification, tried Pingme and that was absolute rubbish, none of the numbers worked. Spoke to livechat and they updated the credit card for me without requiring SMS verification - hope that helps someone.

    • Hey, did you have an Aussie phone linked to your account when you spoke with the live chat? I did the same an hour ago - but the livechat rep did not update my payment method - I did not have an Aussie phone linked. Now that I have linked it up, perhaps try again with the live chat guys. What did you have to say on the chat (I was asked which country are you in now - and I said homeland turkey, where else - still no dice). Did they ask for a Turkish phone number?

      • +1

I had a aussie phone linked to my account. They never asked what my home country was, just simply updated my payment details upon request.

        • Thanks for posting mate. Just updated mine via live chat. One less thing to worry about

          • @tik tok: what did you say? I tried twice to update payment method through chat saying I had web/SSL error and they didnt assist at all. Wanted me to update my mobile number.

            • +1

@Weasel: Yeah mate, one of the chat agents had told me without a phone attached to a profile, there is no way anyone (chat/phone including supervisors) can update the payment method. I have done all the point less song and dance of "show me where in T&C does it say I need to have a phone attached". Eventually, I updated my Aussie phone on the profile. Then (next day) chatted with the agent - and they provided a secure web form where I could enter my new card details. HTH

I am getting "your account can't be use in this location" error.
Anyone else is having this issue? is there any solution?

    • +3

      Read the description FAQ bruh.

      • oh.. How could I miss that. Thanks!!

  • Does the 1 month geo-lock only occur with brand new subscriptions, or will it happen transferring an AU account over?

    • +1

      Happened to me transferring.

  • Bankwest blocked my international transaction fee free cards. That meant updating Netflix with the new card. Couldn't find any way to get around the OTP stuff.
Tried on laptop with paid VPN set to Turkey.
Tried with the free Turkey SMS phone numbers, that didn't work either - NF said Error processing or something.
Netflix app on TV - the Manage account doesn't even open (says you can only access this in the country of registration).
Set up a virtual router so as to access Turkey on other devices and connected TV to the Turkey network. The manage account still gave the same error. Several restarts later, same thing. I dont understand - it didn't let me access that option when the TV was on an Australian internet neither on Turkey network.
Got on to chat and they said account will just not work without a phone number registered to it. Was sceptical of giving them my Aussie phone number as that would mean I will be told I cannot access NF when travelling. Asked the chat rep to point me to T&C where I am expected to have a phone number. He couldn't. Just kept repeating this is policy and I kept repeating I didn't sign up to this policy.

Is there no GiftCard that I could update my account with - and keep auto updating that GC? Will just save the hassle of buying a GC every month.
I have my Aussie number linked to the account. So, tomorrow I think I will try the PingMe app. Any other ideas?

    • +1

Ping me worked for me and also for another I helped on here.

  • Good news everyone! The Argentinian Peso crashed hard on Dec 13 so now 5799 ARS (latest price rise) still only costs $10.60 AUD.

    • Yeah a 30% devaluation and they are supposed to be switching to the USD. Is it even possible to sign up in Argentina?

  • Been on the turkey subscription for some time no problems. However, my Latitude card had to be changed. Now my subscription has expired and I'm unable to update the new card details even via the online chat. It appears that almost all members are having difficulty updating their Latitude card details. I guess I'm wondering if it's just a Latitude card issue or all Mastercard issue. I was considering getting a Up card to pay for it. I noticed many members are using their Wise card. But doesn't it charge you conversion fee for every transaction?

    • @broomvroom is your latitude card a "replacement"? See my comment above

      • Thank you for taking time to respond. Mine is similar case to yours where I had actually lost the card -> got new card and activated it, however, Netflix did not automatically update my new card details. Kept send me emails that my card has expired and that i need to update details. I have since tried updating card detials and adding it as a back up card but neither of them worked. Also tried the contacting the customer support chart in "turkey" but that method failed as well. So was just wondering if it was a latitude thing or a mastercard thing. Was considering getting an Up card but didnt want to bother if it wont work either. I know i can try the kenya thing but sounds like it's a bit of a hassle to open new account and then migrate the profiles to the new account. Please let me know you guys have any ideas

        • +1

          Just use a giftcard

      • So I can just keep my old card and not need to update anything? That's pretty sweet if it can do that.

  • +1

Changed my Citibank debit card to NAB today. Used PingMe and bought 1 coin using saved up Google Rewards credit. Used NordVPN to Istanbul and was able to change the card successfully after receiving the SMS.

  • Hi, has anyone got email from Netflix saying your account will be put on hold until a payment method is added? If true this would be a bummer.

    • You are currently paying using GC?

  • Pakistan the best!

  • It's been almost 32 days and I'm still geo locked…so sad. I did everything according to the instructions, the money was also deducted. The only problem is that I can't verify the phone number because I can't receive the otp code for some reason.

    • +1

I did everything according to the instruction

The only problem is that I can't verify the phone number

It is literally step 1 to verify phone number. So that should have been done before using any VPN. So no…you did not do everything according to instruction
