NOT A BARGAIN, mods please delete.

apparently some people couldn't appreciate the humour

        • -1

yeah i dont know why that got downvoted

      • +1

If you're referring to this That's for 2.7 children. So, 1 child would be less than $400,000, ignoring the chance of twins and shared costs etc.

        tl;dr, stop being a party pooper…

        • +2

The internet is srs business, it's called a joke! lighten up.

Also, highly unlikely that figure is accurate anymore anyway…. The study was conducted in 2006, and hasn't taken into account the increased costs of living in 2013.

You can also tell your kids later the reason why you had them…."well, we saw this offer at IKEA and decided to have you… which also explains why your middle name is Ozbargain".

        • +1

It costs $1.065 million to raise 2.7 kids from birth to 24?

Average pay in Australia is ~$55,000 a year… Allowing for 3% inflation you would earn $1,376,920 over 24 years.

So a single income family would have to live on ~$312,000 for 24 years including rent/mortgage, utilities, home furnishings and so on.

$250 a week to pay for everything other than your child from $1050 pay, this doesn't include paying tax……

Who the fudge writes these things and expects people to take them seriously.

I would say that realistically my daughter (3) costs me less than $50 a week for food, nourishment, toys and entertainment. That's not being a tightass it's being honest and not saying that I live on -$300 a week because I have a child.

        • Sensationalist journalism… they probably adjust the early figures for inflation and add the interest you would have earned on that money or something along those lines so they can get a catchy headline.

        • TO be fair I was replying to your uneditted comment that sounded a lot more serious than that one… I think that study is just bound to be highly inacurate no matter when it was conducted.

        • +1

On average, families don't live on a single income.

So, the average family earns a good bit more than that, and buy their kids all manner of expensive toys, to try and make up for the fact that they don't have any time to spend developing a meaningful relationship with their own offspring because they're always at work earning enough money to buy expensive toys to try and make up for etc. etc..

A single-income family will probably live more frugally, and probably won't be able to spend the same kind of money on their kids… but might not need to spend as much (re the compensation presents as above, as well as childcare costs, after school costs, babysitters, take-away meals because no parents are home to prepare food etc.).

Also factor in the welfare payments and tax benefits, which are in addition to your actual income. Higher again for low-income families.

I'm just glad I don't live in a capital city, so I can afford to put a roof over my family's heads without my partner having to work.

      • +1

Don't forget to factor in saving 50cents on unused contraception. Or even more if you count 9 months' worth!

      • Ah, I lol'd.

        Kids are awesome.

      • save money then buy furby

Saw this on Reddit! had no idea this was WA

If you conceived today and had the baby that day, it would be one week early. Full term is 40 weeks, so you should have got busy a week ago in order to maximise your chance for a free cot LOL.

    • Actually I think this is incorrect, but guys if you delve deeper nopunintended in search of greater accuracy on this matter, I think you'll end up in territory you don't want to be in. Leave it to the ladies, let it be.

    • +2

It's on average 38 weeks after conception, so you still have a week to get busy!
      Consider adding a reminder!

  • +11

Hmm even if I am successful I might print out a heap of these and go visit all the maternity wards and hand these out in 9 months.

    • +1

most families are already prepared by then

      • True, but they could alway resell it. :)

        • +1

$99 voucher if they run out of stock too

  • A woman is pregnant for more than 9 months actually, so unless you have the baby earlier, have a c-section early due to complications, or have started before today, then your baby will be born exactly 9 months from today, which would be 14th of Nov… :)

    • +8

      i was born on 14th nov… o m g

      • +11

        Disturbingly so was Prince Charles.

        • +1

          And my mum! (seriously)

        • How is Charles as a mother?

  • +7

    Where do babies come from?

    • +14

      Ready to assemble from Ikea?

    • +1

You send a letter to the stork… but they don't have the internets, so you need to use snail mail, and it can take up to 9 months for them to receive your request, so better get writing today…

  • +33

Anyone what to go halves? If you know what I mean……

    • Financially too?

    • +8

I'll chip in as a third?

      ….wait, that doesn't work.

      • +1

well, it might, depends on if you want to double your chances (or halve them) … the other 2 thirds will be the challenge

    • i'll do the crime, you do the time

  • +3

Ladies… what do you say, should we give it a go :-)

    • +21

My wife is gonna be flat on her back making this deal work.

    Ladies of WA,

If you can't turn down a bargain, I'm more than willing to offer you the cot in exchange for not paying child support.

    Thank you.

  • +4

Book yourself in for a C-Section on that day, so you can 100% ensure yourself that you will be eligible for the bargain!

    • Unless the baby comes early?

I'm still disappointed that my kid missed an awesome birthday of 07/07/07 by being early.. :P

  • +2

    isn't this a competition?

    • +22

      No it's a game of skill :-)

      • I would think it's more like gambling

or am I doing it wrong?

      • I suppose a degree in obstetrics, midwifery and gynecology counts as one of the relevant skills in making your baby pop up in time for the redemption date….

  • +2

great, so now NOV 2013 babies will be known as the ikea generation.

  • +2

This exactly why being on the pill or implanon is a bad idea - might miss out on a bargain such as this.

    • or being foreveralone. :P
