It's back. The sale that stopped the nation..er…lots of websites including OzBargain.
April 23rd (7PM). Get your F5 keys ready for action.

Click Frenzy

April is probably the best time to have it as it's a general lull as a retail time. We'll see if we can track down the sales like we did last time.

This is part of Click Frenzy deals for 2013

  • Looks like registration is required again but during the last sale access to the sales were open to all. Either way I'm not getting my hopes up too high!

    Late April Fools?

    Crap frenzy

I'll start composing subtitles for the Downfall clip. :)

hell no. how do you neg forum posts?

Will there be a Hitler Video?

  • +3

Interesting. They actually choose to spread out this time and give us

    • Mother's Day Frenzy (April 23)
    • EOFY Frenzy (June 25)
    • Father's Day Frenzy (August 13)
    • Click Frenzy E-Carnivale (November 19)

Instead of one single one a year event. That probably results less clicks and less crashes.

Also note that OzBargain has also been tracking various holidays sales. For example Boxing day sales, Valentine's day sales, etc. Rest assure we will continue to track sales for Mother's Day / Father's Day / EoFY.

the nation that stop the sale!

    To (mis)quote Dennis Leary:
"…They can do all the advertising they want - they can have an advertising cakewalk right through the middle of Tiananmen Square and it won't make a lick of difference" as long as the (so-called) "bargains" are crap.

There were TWO things wrong last year - ClickFrenzy & the retail sites weren't up to scratch, and when people finally managed to get on the deals were, by and large, so pitiful people didn't buy much (if anything).

If I was a retailer who paid up to $30k for advertising in it, I'd be pretty annoyed at only getting (on average) $100k of sales in return ($10m sales / approx 100 retailers), without even accounting for any other overheads or COGS.

"…They can do all the advertising they want - they can have an advertising cakewalk right through the middle of Tiananmen Square and it won't make a lick of difference" as long as the (so-called) "bargains" are crap, people who frequent ozBargain won't be impressed.

There were TWO things wrong last year - ClickFrenzy & the retail sites weren't up to scratch, and when people finally managed to get on the deals were, by and large, not what this demographic expects so we didn't buy much (if anything).

      Altered.

If I was a retailer who paid up to $30k for advertising in it, I'd be pretty annoyed at only getting (on average) $100k of sales in return ($10m sales / approx 100 retailers), without even accounting for any other overheads or COGS.

The averaging here doesn't work. Many of those 100 retailers would have sold next to nothing (and not paid much either). Also the higher the prices the higher the margins. Not saying this is good for them, but just because people here realise that this isn't any good doesn't mean that they wont make money.

Ultimately any big sale just doesn't make much sense any more, there is always an online retailer willing to make the sale for just above cost. Clearances (which don't scale up) and exclusive products (which are often not bargains anyway) are the exceptions.

      • +1

Agree with it not being a clear-cut average, due to the different sizes of the corporations. But if a business is taking on extra advertising costs (as well as cutting their margins via discounts on products), they want to at least make that back. I'd hazard a guess that quite a lot didn't. But I suppose at least that's still extra advertising they got.

Certainly, OzBargain regulars would probably know whether deals were bad or good. But from extensive media feedback, and the FB pages (both official & "hate" pages) as well as Twitter, I'd say a large number of the disgrunteled people weren't members here.

Chances are if you've bought from overseas online (or eBay, etc.), you know that you can pick up things really cheap online. And that's not a demographic for OzBargainers - I knew that well before I stumbled upon here.

Not meaning to start an argument, but I believe the country's population is becoming a little more tech-savy and wise to the "world economy" as time goes by. All the media attention on how "overseas imports are killing us" from retailers will clue in those that read the newspapers. :-)

  • +16

    Fool me once, shame on you;
Fool me twice, shame on me.

    No thanks.

    • +1

      agreed, a thousand times over

  • +5

… unbelievable. I mean, after the last disaster you'd think they'd be too embarrassed to try again. At the very least a name change should have headed the strategic plan…

  • +2

I reckon there's slim chance of these clowns learning from last time and increasing their server capacity so the site actually loads.

But the deals are still going to rubbish. Australian retail is what it is.

As for name changes etc, remember that they spun what happened last time into a 'success'.

The only one getting deals here will be G Arnott.

When ClickFrenzy went down last time, loads of people came to OzBargain as we had some of the sales listed. Hopefully people have learned that bargains don't only come from one off shopping events like Click Frenzy or Boxing Day but are happening everyday (and came be found on OzBargain).

  • Looks like ClickFrenzy might actually hold up tonight:

    $ host www.clickfrenzy.com.au
www.clickfrenzy.com.au is an alias for d3bek5sz6igmi1.cloudfront.net.

Basically they are now using AWS CloudFront CDN service to serve the entire page. clickfrenzy.com.au itself is hosted on Amazon S3 in Sydney. Everything static generated, and I believe Amazon would have enough bandwidth to support the surge, which won't be as much as last November's.

The load however will be passed onto retailers' own website, which would need to be dynamic.

  • According to http://www.news.com.au/technology/biztech/retailers-blow-off… there are a few 'not click frenzy' sales that are just as good as click frenzy ones

"David Jones' "48 hour Frenzy" runs today and tomorrow, giving customers 20 per cent off when they spend $150. This sale is also being run both online and in-store."

"Priceline, which pulled out of Click Frenzy after participating last year, is offering 40 per cent off cosmetics today and tomorrow."

"Jewellery retailer Diva, which also shirked the official event after a bad experience last year, is running a "Diva Frenzy" sale until midnight Thursday offering a "2 for 3" deal."

    • +1

Love how companies are piggybacking off the Frenzy name but not actually paying for it. Guess that's punishment for failing so badly last time, burn companies and sites will just have their own sales at the same time.

  • http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100808 - OnSport.com.au Up to 50% off selected items
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100805 - My House 50% on All Sheet Sets including flannelette. new

Am i the only one finding very little appealing

    • No, ditto

    • No but I didn't expect any better…

  • I love these "sales". $50 off RRP. Free engraving on ipad. Big wow.

    • +4

The engraving is always free. All it actually does is reduce your resale value

      • Never thought of that. I can hear the marketing speech. "We'll offer free engraving, then there will be less second hand devices we can't make money on. Then the consumer has to buy a brand new one from us <muhahahaha>"

    Yawn

  • We @ozbargain are still tracking the websites. A bit underwhelming actually comparing to last year's. Looks like we'll have an early night.

Any website crashing stories? Priceline was down earlier today. Harvey Norman's was crashing at 6PM (and still very slow at the moment) according to News.

    • Target has been touch and go since I posted it on OzB (before the sale 'officially' started)

    • +2

Wow. Must be a couple of pros on the HN site. Gerry can't deal with pros. Probably pulled the plug himself.

    • and WELCOME10 makes it $712.80 :)

      • And.. It's gone :(((

  • +5

Still haven't seen a single item worth purchasing

  • +3

so clickfrenzy is basically just advertising?
    not an actual sale?

  • Priceline is down. "Apologies, we are experiencing unprecedented visits to our website. We’ll be back up and running again before long so please try again soon." How about no?

    • Priceline, always the fiasco.

Last time they offered a discount during the sale, had the server running but nobody could check out then finished the sale without extending the discount. Too bad, so sad even though it was their fault.
