Notes

  • Minimum $50 spend per transaction.
  • Discount also applies to postage.
  • A maximum discount of $100 applies to each transaction (Transactions totalling at least $666.67 including postage will give you the maximum $100 discount).
  • Up to 3 transactions per person.
  • Payment must be done through PayPal.
  • Discount can be applied to items sold by overseas sellers, as long as you checkout on eBay.com.au.

    • So a $92.15 apple… lmao!

    • Someone report this rotten bastard.

  • trying to checkout on my 3rd and final checkout but keep getting:

An error occurred during processing. Please try again.
At this time, we are unable to process your request. Please return to eBay and try another option.

    Is paypal dead for everyone?

  • i called ebay and thankfully they understand my problem with auction items i've won not appearing in the cart along with fixed price listing items added to the cart. the rep i spoke to realised that auction items had appeared in my cart on sunday and i was able to checkout as normal, but now i can't. waiting on a call back..

their shopping cart rules are also contradictory. on one hand they say that items from "auction-style" listings can't be added:

Items that can't be added to your eBay shopping cart
Some listings can't be added to the eBay shopping cart:
    Auction-style listings

…yet on the shopping cart page

Why are auction or best offer items in my cart?
Some items will appear in your cart because you've committed to buy them, such as items won by auction or because the seller accepted your best offer. These items will be saved in your cart until you pay for them.

    • You called eBay? I didn't know there was a direct number now! (I must admit it's been a few years since I last tried to complain about something ;)

Would you like to share the number? :)

      • or rather, i got them to call me ;)

        http://ocsnext.ebay.com.au/ocs/cuhome

i have to say their service is really good, much better than paypal. and when they say they'll call you back they actually do!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Had to create an account just to post this:

Sunday night, thought the deal was going to be over soon (even though at the time it was going to end Monday night, which has now extended to tonight). I decided to buy a piece of equipment for AU$799 (free postage), expecting $100 discount. eBay website was extremely unstable at the time, most timing out and some coming up with error pages. After refreshing a bunch of times I finally struggled through checkout and Paypal. Then I thought, where was I supposed to enter the code??!! Checked Paypal transaction and it went through for the full price :(

Tried eBay's customer service and over 30 hours later still no reply. Earlier this afternoon the seller shipped the item and I nearly lost all hope of ever getting the $100 discount. Decided to try calling Paypal customer service to see if they can do anything. Lady on the phone said she could fix it by refunding 15% or $119.85. After being on hold for a while she says they'll refund $120 as Paypal credits. So at this point I thought I was up $20 over the amount I was supposed to have gotten in the first place.

Half an hour later an email came through saying Paypal has sent US$119. I thought, oh well, they decided to round down instead, whatever, still up $19. Went into the details and it turns out I have AU$126.49, oh right the exchange rate!

Hah, love Paypal (unless you're a seller or collecting money for charitable purposes, in which case they'll screw you over every way they can and freeze your accounts randomly)

    • +7

      You got very lucky.

    • +1

good on you for being persistent!

Hah, love Paypal (unless you're a seller or collecting money for charitable purposes, in which case they'll screw you over every way they can and freeze your accounts randomly)

i have separate paypal accounts for buying and selling. last year, they randomly froze the buying account and i had to go to the post office to verify my identity. meanwhile i couldn't pay for anything for those few days.

  • Good evening,

Could someone please offer some advice. I would like to purchase an item that I was required to obtain a quote for postage from the seller. Do I pay for the item through paypal & then pay for the postage as a separate transaction outside ebay?.

    • nope… you need to wait for the seller to provide the shipping costs…
(which if they dont do by tonight then no 15%/$100 saving)

    • +1

you need to request a total including the postage from the seller first otherwise the postage will not be discounted at 15% if you pay the item and the postage seperately. If i were you, I will pay for the item first which is better than no discount unless you want to work out your own estimated postage and pay for the differnce in postage once the seller send you a final invoice.

      • Thought that might be the case. They have provided a quote to me but not a total. I assume you cannot just add the postage cost to a paypal payment.

      • I am in the same situation. Committed to buying an item only to find out I need to request postage before I can pay. Even though its listed as free postage for my area. This means I won't get postage in time to use the discount code. And even if I did, being a 2 step process means I will also be unable to claim 2% cashback. Because of this I've just told the seller to cancel the order. Hopefully they will do this tomorrow.

        • I"m in the same boat. Listing says free postage to a local freight depot but wants me to request a total amount in an invoice. The seller is a business, so no chance in getting any replies tonight. So I have asked for the transaction to be cancelled and will probably ring tomorrow and grovel nicely to them and see if I can purchase direct for a bit of a discount.

HI guys, dont think it has been mentioned but with listings that have "make an offer" are you still able to use the code to get 15% off? just worried that if the person accepts the price that i wont be able to use the 15% code also. do i have to do anything different.

    • it has been mentioned, and you are

  • im being impulsive here, can anyone recommend a good wireless keyboard and mouse combo :D

  • +1

Wow what shame this seller… www.ebay.com.au/itm/331204141237

Lucky I got the GoPro for $468, now they want $494 for it! Was going to recommend this seller as I just received it this morning, literally next-day delivery probably the fastest order I've ever had on eBay. They provided a legit invoice as well for people claiming GST and a 10% off GoPro accessories voucher, etc.

  • -1

I didnt go crazy, just got what I planned on getting earlier.
    Total over 3 transactions
    AUD$320 less 15% = $275
    AUD$670 less 15% = $100
    USD$130 less 15% = $20
    approx A$400 saving.

    • +18

You'll have to redo your calculations there..

      • haha.. my bad.. yes about $170 savings total lol… $275 was initial purchase amount..not saved amount.

    • LOL

    • AUD$320 less 15% = $275???

How often do ebay have 15% or similar off?

    • +3

twice in the last 6 months, never before though

      • Thanks,
Was it a min $50 spend/$100 max deal like this?

  • +1

sad story. purchased something worth US$ 735 (searched and checked out on EBAY AU) , used the coupon to get US$100 off. coupon worked and says only need to pay US$635. logged into paypal through ebay and paid (US$735) , after that, logged into paypal.com to check details but found out there is nothing about the discount. contacted ebay and it says because the discount can't apply on items listed outside Australia?? ( all done on my laptop, there were no warning message at all) anyway, at the end I found out because my paypal account is not registed in Australia, was under other country. Ebay told me they can't help me to cancel the order I need to contact the seller. The seller didn't reply my message and instantly change the status of product to SHIPPED (all happened at night —from purchased to shipped at night 7-9pm) <—-product is in TAIWAN which is same time zone as in Perth. Hope I can get my money back

    • Contact PayPal and tell them what happened, not eBay. PayPal are more likely to refund you.

  • +1

Now see people will comment omg I missed this.. lol

  • +2

Thanks OP. Got a lot of items I had been watching:
    OnePlus one 64gb (yay!!)
    Ultimate Shield tempered glass protector
    Diztronic case
Shure earphones (couldnt justify the cost of QC15/20)
    Cosmetics
    Mobil 1 engine oil
    Kitchen gadgets
Simplehuman bin (the only impulse buy :/

    Saved quite a few dollars.
Now ,,, how to avoid eye contact with the delivery guy… he already looks at me like he's judging me. Once I was walking on my street and was about 20 houses away, he stopped his van and asked me if it is ok to leave the parcel on my door!

    • +3

The lady at the post office asks me how I am by name, and I only use the post office to collect carded parcels…

      • Same here lol :)

  • sent the seller another message to not actually ship the item tomorrow. and will contact ebay again tomorrow.
worse case probably return the product and lose postage?

    • Or just keep it, as you're risking shipping and return issues over $100 on an item which I assume you actually wanted…

  • I was playing around and still have a 550XP Husky Chainsaw sitting in my checkout with the 15% off. ~$600. Not bad when rrp here is $1349. But not needed.

    • Unfortunately PayPal will stop you from checking out though saying that the coupon has expired.

  • glad i didnt spend too much… got a 256gb SSD and some pinball legs (for an upcoming virtual pinball machine build)

    • +5

If it it's virtual, why does it need legs?

      • Virtual Legs?

        • +3

you funny buggers… the playfield and backglass are lcd monitors, so it is a "virtual playfield" ie you can change the game for whatever pinball game you want. has tilt, nudge and a real plunger.
          also has wife approval…

        • +1

@heathwithnoteeth: While your doing that build me a MAME arcade aswell :)

  • Bah .. didn't buy anything .. but about 9:55 WST realised I was going to get a blu ray box set (hard to find Japan series that is not cheap and I have been lurking over on and off) .. but couldn't find it for sale fast enough … but in hunting found a few other things …. missed the deal entirely. Doh - back to lurking I guess.

Happy 15th b'day ebay..once again drain the wallet, but enjoyed celebrating with you again. This temptation certainly puts pressure to price-review/research all goodies saved in your watchlist. Only problem being a last min purchaser, cart often gets submitted final seconds before 00:00 [x2]; whilst Sunday could not even get in post 11PM.

Sadly scurrying too madly to remember /2% rebate/ so will have to work on that methodical approach in future :P. Came out okay with:-
.LG G SMART Watch G Watch BlackWhite Titan BY Android Wear…(Au Korea 169.15)
.FiiO E07K USB DAC with Headphone Amplifier(Au Au 116.87)
.ColorCross VR Goggles with Magnet parts, Much better than…(Au Au 44.37)
.x3 4 LED Solar Powered Fence Gutter Light Outdoor Wall Lobby…(Au Cn 11.75)

I reckon there'll be opportunities to source one condenser microphone next time +hopefully that's a Sun-Tue deal as well.

    • scored several Weber family Q items to go with my new eBay bought Weber Q 305
    • ipad holder for the kitchen
    • PS4
    • Baby strolller
    • pet related products

could have bought more.. but only limited to 3 transactions.. wasn't bothered opening up new accounts and paypal..

  • +1

Finally pulled the trigger on buying a Fiio X3 for $150.45

Spent all up about $1000 over the weekend, but luckily almost all of it was what I wanted to buy but was just waiting for a sale to come along!

  • I wasn't planning to but i pulled the trigger only by a little bit. I bought three of these Wool suit trousers from this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/161582 and a cotton business shirt from this seller. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mens-Long-Sleeve-Casual-Business-…

    I saved $18.14

  • +1

    Stupid impulse buying…

Bought a vintage coffee table for ~$237, saving $42 on the buy it now price, and 2 Artemide Tolomeo Micro table lamps for $476, saving $84.

  • +2

Thank god it's over, I have developed an eye twitch from excessive ebaying. Hopefully more sales like this in the future, although I treated this like it might be the last one for a while and went nuts. Used all 3 transactions, about $1400 all up. Looks like the cashrewards tracking is working so far. New ergo chair, boss loopstation, extra foot pedals & cables, lingerie for the misses and a high end air purifier for my dusty as shit house. 25+ items, my posty is going to be busy!

  • +4

I'm the one who made it 2014 'Likes'

    • +1

And I just punched it over to next year! :P

  • I bought something last night, but the seller did not send me the proper invoice yet. Will i still be eligible for the 15% off discount?

    Anybody sure of the outcome?

    • Unfortunately no. It had to be yesterday. Putting in the code today will net you an "expired" message.

      • Ah shit…Well i can't afford the product without the discount now! Thats crap!

        • +1

Just send a email to the seller to cancel the transaction. It is a bummer though that you couldn't get the item, however the upside is you still have your money.

        • +4

@lplau: Very true :) I will just wait for another eBay % off sale.
Its worth the wait for the $$$ saved.

        • @m0tyrider: you just saved 100% on the item!

  • Can't believe I didn't find anything to buy on eBay during this sale. Lucky though, as I went crazy at the Country Road sale this morning instead. They had 50% off plus an extra 25% extra for cardholders.

    • -1

DW, I exercised restraint and bought nothing this time. It's only 15% off but ppl seem to go crazy when ebay does it.

      • -2

        Totally right Wolfie.
We have much better discounts up to 90% all the time on Ozbaragin.
15% is nothing unless you are buying something that never gets discounted IE Apple gear but really, the 15% just covers the mark up many stores place on eBay items to cover the 15% or so of fees.
        I didn't buy anything either.

        • I tried to buy from Dick Smith - wasted my time - wasted one of my coupons. Haven't bought from ebay for a long time and was lured back by the 15%. Total waste of time- now have to get money back from Dick Smith- and ebay is supporting shonky companies like Dick Smith by not doing anything about them. Its one thing getting ripped off by ordinary grifters but high street companies grifting week in and week out is another. If Ebay don't do anything about Dick Smith this time they are also routinely involved in unconscionable selling conduct, because they are profiting from it.

        • @rolly2112: Errr, why don't you just open a paypal case? Thats what they are there for…. Unless you stupidly paid by Direct Deposit, then I'd say you'd deserve to be ripped off.

        • +1

I went crazy and bought a heap of things, which all I was thinking of buying before anyways. Pretty much all the stuff I got, they NEVER gone on sale.

Also the stuff I got, are the cheapest on eBay even cheaper than other online stores, so I don't see the 15% markup that you are describing.

        • @lplau:

Also the stuff I got, are the cheapest on eBay even cheaper than other online stores, so I don't see the 15% markup that you are describing.

          true that.

in fact, i got some skateboard wheels that were already discounted 15% before i bought them on sunday for another 15% off. sure, some sellers might have been marking up prices but it isn't a widespread thing

        • @tdw:
Sellers have to pay a premium of ~14% in eBay/PayPal fees for selling on eBay so you will find many stores are DEARER on eBay, not cheaper. The 14% pretty much just covers the fee hike difference. You will notice it mostly in highly competitive items such as IT gear. If its a niche area that is not too competitive, they might just absorb it IE they are making heaps of profit to start with.
Try selling something yourself on eBay. You'll soon see.

  • I want a few more things now… :/

Belatedly thought about a fitbit and we also need a duplo storage box. :/

  • Has anyone noticed Australia post has been slow to deliver some items? Tracking states some of my packages were sent from NSW and QLD on Tuesday but had not arrived by Friday in CBD Adelaide. One package was scanned Tuesday afternoon in Sydney, and then scanned again in a different Sydney mail centre Wednesday morning.

    • As a fellow Southie, yes iv'e noticed……
