  • I've recently moved away from Telecube, not because of poor service or congestion but simply found a cheaper provider.

I would recommend Telecube to anyone even remotely thinking about it, their customer service is top notch and we never experienced any issues in the last couple of months after they ironed out a few network issues. Considering the newly released plans from Aussie Broadband today, Telecube's offer is excellent value for money.

    • would like to know, mind sharing ? or PM ? I couldn't find anything decent compare to Telecube, wish I could get my $99 setup fee as credit… LoL

      • +3

I signed up to Buzz Telco during their recent promo (expired now) just to see how it faired for an unlimited service… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/354496

I doubt there's anything comparable now.

        • Wow. That's a lot of negs

I hope you're getting good service

        • Thanks for sharing… a friend with them got a few drop out when we're playing Guild War 2, since he's not moving and we waited 10+ minutes… might not be good for online game….

        • +1

@sween64: Yep, it's been great so far….both from a customer service standpoint and my connection.

Getting a slightly better download speed and lower pings due to the Brisbane POP still not up-and-running (with Telecube.)

        • @dlovep: I'm a huge online gamer and not a single issue. Getting a 9ms ping vs 38ms when I was with Telecube. That ping would be lower had the Brisbane POP been finished.

        • Yeah nah, sometimes you need to pay a bit more for peace of mind which I am happy to do.

        • @Jonesy7707: We're in Sydney, might depends on how far from the station also who's online at the same time…

        • @wooldogs: No one forced you to change. As someone who only signs up to non-contract services I am happy to try anyone once to see how their services compare and right now my experience with Buzz is better than that of Telecube.

        • +1

@dlovep: Well let's see, two kids playing online games in other rooms, one daughter watching YT and another daughter and my wife streaming Hulu and/or Netflix with no lag….I think I'd notice if there was.

        • @Jonesy7707: That's good on you mate, maybe just him that caught in congestion.

        • That's what happens when companies inexperienced with our NBN setup draw up an quick and dirty business plan to try to make a buck :) I hope Telecube fairs better, because the level of service and CVC they are providing shouldn't be sustainable in the long run, unless that change in NBN wholesale pricing really kicks in.

    • Cheaper? Wow. Where's the deal?

      • Above :)

      • He's trying to keep leechers from migrating over to his new ISP.

        Don't ask, don't tell.

    • Who did you move to?

      • Buzz Telco and happy to report that the service and connection has been flawless….contrary to others dealings with them.

        • Let's hope it stays that way eh?

        • @lostn: No real loss if it doesn’t, I simply move back to Telecube or another RSP if there’s any promotions going.

Right now though, paying $39 for a slightly better service than what I was paying $69 for….I’m happy!

  • Anyone from Canberra ACT with experience using TC?
Currently on Internode FTTP - Getting within 10% of advertised speeds but 3ms ping which is what I need for gaming.
If I route through SYD POP (Assuming Syd - not Mel) that would definitely increase my latency right?
Can anyone chime in and post up their speedtest?
Rep - Any plans for a Canberra POP?

    • No plans for a Canberra POP at this stage. Adelaide is next.

Surely your latency would only increase if the gaming server was in Canberra, right?

Search the whirlpool speed test thread for Canberra. Post in the whirlpool discussion thread asking for trace routes to gaming servers you use.

  • Can I order now and get it connected next month? Wife doesn't want me to change until she finishes her uni assignments.

    • No sorry. The special pricing will still be available though.

  • +1

Cheers OP - gonna make the switch from ABB and give Telecube a shot.

  • If Louis from telecube is reading, would you do a 50/20 wireless NBN plan for $65 a month with no setup fees and same data package? I'd sign up instantly. Cheers

    • +1

Why don't you go and ask on the Whirlpool thread where he would be reading?

      • not a member, i just asked via their website Contact..

        • Ah OK. They're normally very prompt with email replies so you shouldn't be waiting long for a response.

    • Let us know telecube answer.

    • You can take the 100/40 plan for $69 and we'd just provision the 50/20 on the FW service.

I'm currently planing to change my NBN connection and did some research. My requirements include at least 200GB data at 25/5 Mbps speed.
    So following are my options.
    * Telecube: 25/5 Mbps 1000GB – $59.50 pm
    * Aussie Broadband: 25/5 Mbps 200GB - $59 pm
    * MATE Communicate: 25/5 Mbps Unlimited - $59 pm for the first six months and $69 after that
    * Barefoot Telecom: 25/5 Mbps 1000GB – $59 pm

All of the bottom three options have no contracts, no activation fees and no peak/off peak time restrictions. All these providers have very good reviews and consequently, I'm in a dilemma. Could someone please suggest what's my best option is?

    • +1

      Also https://teleron.com.au/ has 200GB at 25/5 speeds for $54

      • Thanks. But they don't have a good reputation compared to other ISPs I have listed above.

    • +1

What tech are you on? FTTN?

      • Nope, it's FTTP.

        • How come you're only looking at 25/5? Trying to save money?

        • Yeah, I am :)
Still a student and I can live with 200 GB as well. Don't have a tv, that helps too.

        • +1

          @AMelbournian: Fair enough.

  • Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm transferring from TPG to Telecube, so I would choose it as a transfer service instead of a new service right? And who do I need to email to get the $69 credit?

    • +1

Depends on the tech type mostly, for FTTP always select new (they connect it to the unused port) for anything else select transfer if you have an existing service with someone else. Having said that though, they process orders manually so normally it won't really matter which you select.

  • wish we had NBN already so we could get a wind of some of these deals

    • Tell me about it. :(

  • On one hand we had to pay the $69 when we e joined telecube about a week and a half ago, but on the other hand we couldn't have lived without Internet for a week and a half.

  • How is international bandwidth between providers? I assume they are not the same and depending on private deal between telco and international partners, not nbnco.
I used to be with tpg on adsl2, signed up with abb when nbn is available. There is some speed improvement in general but more dropouts and live streaming from international source is not as smooth as before. In fact i just have a 5 minutes drop out about 30 minutes ago.
What would be approximate downtime to transfer nfc service from abb to telecube?
    Thank you.

    • HFC? It can be done on the same business day if everything goes smoothly. You'll need to call ABB first to cancel the service. NBN Co has troubles activating some HFC services though.

  • Im with Skymesh paying $89 for 100/40 But am on HFC If I sign up with Telecube does instantly cancel Skymesh and port over like mobile phones ?

    • No. The process is:
Step 1: user calls old ISP to cancel
Step 2: Sign up with telecube
Step 3: wait with no internet until telecube activate internet

      • Damm thats annoying Ive got to give 30 days first.

        • Is that enforced by SkyMesh?

        • @sween64: It says its Month by month plans but have to give 30 days notice, But im sick of them as they used to be good.

        • @solidussnake:

I'm in the same boat, 30 days notice which is mighty inconvenient.

Any idea if this deal will stick around for a few weeks so I can give notice now to skymesh and don't have to double up on services this month?

        • @Mr Mrrtn: The setup credit offer won't but we will be extending the main offer through Feb

        • +2

@solidussnake: I complained about peak congestion and they waived the 30 day notice.

        • @telecube: If im on HFC and I cancel does that mean I cant sign on with you guys until the HFC connections are fixed ?

        • +1

@solidussnake: Nope, you can cancel and sign up with us before midnight tomorrow and you'll be eligible for the setup refund credit. Any HFC service that was ever active is not affected by the current NBN HFC ordering hold, assuming that's what you are referring to.

        • @Stix:

I've had congestion, could play that card 😁

        • @Stix: I complained about congestion and they still said theres a 30 day wait as its part of their T's and C's I said I would go to ACCC about them providing a service and not delivering on speeds. So thats were im going. Well I think its the Telecommunication Ombusman

        • @telecube: Yeah thats it, Skymesh are telling everyone who cancels the internet that they cant get NBN again until the issues are fixed ???

  • Has anyone got any thoughts on Telecube v Mungi? I'm considering both and not sure which one to go with.

    Telecube $69.95 for 100/40
    Mungi $74.95 for 100/40

    • I'm considering both today also. I've been following whirlpool closely. Here's my take so far:

Telecube pros: Saving of $6 per month; "Layer 2 Network" which I don't fully understand but I believe it means they can easily provision more bandwidth to alleviate any congestion and they claim that they will address any congestion issues quickly.
Telecube cons: No guarantees that monthly price won't rise (quote from Whirlpool "my intention is to maintain this price point for the long term but if it proves to be financially unsustainable we would at some point need to increase prices"); they use Vocus for international transit which on my read has been a variable experience in terms of speed.

Mungi pros: They quote that in the current deal the price is "for life"; they will also (apparently) shortly be on a "Layer 2 Network"; they are stating that soon they will be using Wideband for international transit which seems to have a good rep.
Mungi cons: They're currently on a "Layer 3 Network" again I don't fully understand but it seems to talked about as the lowest wholesale networking option.

I think both seem to be pretty decent providers at the moment. I must say I do like the idea of the Mungi "for life" price.

I'm going to make the final call at the end of today. No contracts means I can easily move but the specials from these two probably won't be available at these prices if that time comes.

This is an interesting comment from Telecube via Whirlpool re some new NBN wholesale pricing for 100/40 apparently coming into effect during April

"If they are forced on us it will kill our pricing model, I'm relying on this quote to keep us in the game:

NBN Co’s existing pricing options will continue to be available for internet and phone providers who prefer this model and to also allow a smooth migration for those who choose to progressively move their customers over to the new bundles."

      • I don't believe any provider can honestly guarantee a 'price for life', commercial conditions change and there's no way to know for sure what the NBN pricing model is going to be next year, 5 years from now, 10 years. It's a marketing gimmick and IMHO dishonest.

      • Are you sure the pricing is lifetime or just the discount? There is no way they could sustain that pricing for that many customers if NBN Co decided to start charging more.

        • Here's where they say "for life". Probably need to question the statement with them I guess…
          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2679103

        • +1

@herbo: It also says this though…

This includes a discount up to $20 off per month for life.

That to me indicates the discount is for life and not the plan price. So they could increase the plan price and you would still get your $20 discount.

        • +1

@Jonesy7707: I think you're correct about it being $20 off per month. I also think they need to be careful how they word these things, it's open for interpretation

        • @herbo: Yep. Reading it, it’s essy to see how someone could think they’re guaranteeing that price for life though.

      • To add to your post another big Mungi con is they only have one POP vs TC have them everywhere except QLD and SA from memory. This is a particularly big deal for users in WA.

  • Question OP, is this a service transfer if still on ADSL2+? assuming I should choose new service? Signing up this morning, thanks.

    • New service, add in the notes that you have a current ADSL2+ service

    • Nope, if you are transitioning across from ADSL to NBN it's a new service.

  • Thanks!

  • Telecube actively identify when CVC limits are reached and order more bandwidth promptly, peak congestion never lasts long.

Does anyone know if Telstra does this also?

Does Telecube offer routers or is BYO your only option? If BYO, how do you get your landline working? Any BYO router isn't going to support it for NBN. The socket won't even be there. Only an ISP supplied router will be configured for it.

    • BYO. What connection type are you on?

      • HFC

        • Then you have a NBN supplied NTD that stays with the property. Keep that. You can then use any router you like.

        • @sween64: I don't think you're understanding the situation. The NTD will only supply the internet, not the telephony.

To get a landline phone it has to plug into a router, not the modem. Your current ISP's router isn't going to handle Telecube's telephony. It's not configured for it, and neither will a third party router you purchase. Those won't even have a phone socket because the ISP locks the codes to access the landline.

Telecube supports landline, since they are charging a fee to port the number. But what hardware do you need in order to use the landline? Don't say a BYO router. I've already explained to you that it won't work.

        • @lostn:

          Any of these will work:

          Fritz Box 7390
          Fritz Box 7490
          NetComm NF17ACV
Technicolor TG789vac V2 (no retail, available from iiNet/Internode and MyRepublic)
TP-Link VR200v (with VLAN ID disabled)
          TP-Link TD-VG5612

          link

  • Hi OZP, So do I need to deposit $138 right now into my account before initiating the service?

    • Yes. $69 for the first month, $69 for the set up fee. $69 will be credited to your Telecube account after you email requesting it citing this deal.

      • Hi Op, I'm just in the middle of 'opening' an account with Telecube. Why it tells 'Offpeak 5000G' other than Unlimited as you claimed? Thanks.

        • That's a mistake that hasn't been updated. It used to by 5TB off peak, now it is unlimited.

      • Hi Op, when I pay thr Paypal, will the transfer (from my current NBN provider) occur in a minute?? Or how long does it take to occur? in xxx working days or so???

        • What tech are you using? If it's FTTP then it should be within hours.

        • @sween64:

          Hooray… i'm FTTP:)

        • @sween64:

Hi Op, sorry to bother again!

I've registered and paid via the links above. Looks like it's waiting for your 'manual handling' the order/setting. Just got a question: when I 'manage' my NBN service, what is the "Dynamic IPv4" for? Should I add this add-on (I suppose it's free??)? But I'm a bit confused as the dynamic IP should be the default setting for all; so why I need to activate this "Dynamic IPv4" add-on (though it's free).

          Thanks.

  • Hi Rep, on NBN website my house has HFC available. Last time I tried to order the service with Buzz Telco, they said they've requested NBNco to run a lead in cable to my house but nothing has happened for more than 5 months so I cancelled the order (still waiting for my refund). I'm currently using ADSL with TPG.

So if I sign up now, how fast can you get those NBN guys to do it?

Is there anyway for me to check if my house is really NBN ready?

    • Your house is NBN ready once you have the NTD installed. There's very little Telecube can do to speed up NBN's installation process other than remind them regularly.

    • +1

Email [email protected] with your address and they can provide more detail.

  • too many posts to filter through so sorry if this has been answered before, but is this applied to existing members?
Currently on the $69 plan from a while back I think I have 5TB off peak.

    • No. It's a credit for the setup fee.

      • I'm referring to the "Unlimited OFF PEAK data" comment. - or is this the standard now?

        • +1

That's standard now. Log in here: https://telecube.com.au/myaccount/

Under "Service Detail" there should be a line that reads "Offpeak Allowance: Unlimited"

        • +1

          @sween64:
it does, I have been using the old members area up until I just saw the new link in another post.
Also saw what you mentioned! thanks :D

  • Rep, if I sign up today, how long will it take to get it activated and ready to be used?

I am on AussieBB NBN FTTB.
