Note: The $200 & $300/$500 gift card deal is for new or port in customers (as already stated). However existing customers are still eligible for the extra double data on both plans and are also eligible for $300 credit for a phone purchase on the $65 BYO. Thanks BenTennyson.

  • Sweet deal, thanks. paying $46 p/m for virgin and contract is out in half a month. I need to buy a camcorder so the $200 voucher can go to that.

  • I also got the $39 plan for 20GB only 3 weeks ago. What would be our options for those who recently signed up to try and upgrade?

    • Your option would be cancel the current $39 plan you're on, pay the Early Termination Fee (probably a few hundred dollars), port your number out to another carrier, wait a few weeks and then hope this offer is still on.

    • try the online chat or call telstra support. You might be lucky depending on the rep. I sucessfully downgrade my plan from $59 for 40GB to $45 to 50GB after trying to haggle with 3 rep.

  • +7

Just now was talking to optus rep to recontract and scored a 30GB plan for $22.50 per month! They also offered $31.50 for 50GB.
This was after I mentioned this telstra/jb-hifi deal to them, + i am student so extra 10% off

    • Hm how did they offer you the 30GB deal?

    • 30GB for $22.50. How? Just by mentioning JB?
      And was it for 12months?

      • yep i just said jb/telstra is having this deal, i linked this page
and i was looking for a plan to recontract, i was previously with optus as well - i asked whats the best offer you can give me
and the agent offered me a $10 discount on the plan, which stacks with the 10% student discount

    • I talked to a couple reps and they wouldn't budge. Who did you talk to?

      • Some lady named Lucy

        • Do you know which department she was in because I still can't find anyone willing to give me this deal

    • best they could offer me was $31.50 for 30gb.

  • I'm in a boost prepaid SIM, can I head in store and port my number to this plan?

    • Nope owned by Telstra

      • Im a Boost customer too, just clarifying i would need to port out and then sign up correct?

  • Good deal, can you use the gift card from the $45 deal on a phone if you like?

    • +1

Yep! Bought a phone a few days ago with the $200 gift card. Depending on the phone it might be work out cheaper over 24 months if you get the $65 plans. But you’ll be locked in for 12 months longer, so yeah.

  • Im hoping on a pixel 3 deal similar to the last year pixel 2 deal that I missed out on, ported to belong last week in preparation

  • fyi, I signed up Thursday at 4pm and account has not been activated 27 hours later. Chatted with Telstra. And talked with JB hifi rep who said there are a lot orders to be processed. He also said my account would be getting bumped from 25 to 50gb of data for the $45 per month.

  • Does Boost count as a different provider to port from?

    • I don't think so.

  • sorry i might be having a slow day but how does the $300/$500 work on the more expensive plan?

    • -3

      $300 for $45 plan and $500 for $65 plan

      Different jb voucher credit

      • +2

No, $200 gift card for $45 plan (to spend on anything, not just a phone), $65 plan you get $300 credit for phone less than $999, for phones over $999 you get $500 credit.

        • does 65 plan comes with unmetered data after 80gb used up? and international calls?

          • @webtherapist: YES BYO$65 is POM but the plans under that are (at the moment) $10/1gb for extra data

  • As someone else suggested above I just tried both Telstra chat and phone services to get my plan changed from 59$ to 45$ with no success. They both said that they can't see JB hifi specific prices in their system (which I think isn't true) and I'll have to sort it out with JB hifi itself. Any luck anyone?

  • I’m currently with Woolworths mobile prepaid sim only which uses Telstra network would I have to port out?

    • No. Fine to port from Woolworths.

      • What about Belong mobile?

  • Can you stack it? If I get 2 new $65 plans can I get $1000 off iPhone XS MAX?

    • No it would be $500 per phone.

  • +2

Just letting you all know before porting in and out, I'm pretty sure these new Telstra Plans do not have account "data sharing" anymore… so you may want to reconsider if you have Tablet/iPad data share sims in your family account that rely on the internet data sharing from your mobile plans…

    • yeah, no new plans have data sharing now.

  • +1

how is it that JB can do such a good deal when telstra is so crap? what do telstra get out of it? why not just offer decent prices to everyone direct?

    I find this pretty confusing……

    • -3

Perhaps simply think about this common sense. JB Hifi is a retailer just like other similar sales channel for T* whereas T* is a principal.
T* would not create a similar cannibal product which would defeat its own sales channel.

May be JB Hifi has a special deal with T* up to a certain extent… Who knows?

  • +2

Helluva bargain… but I don't want to spend most of my waking hours staring at the phone consuming content :)

  • Do these plans have data sharing?

    • +1

No. Telstra stopped data sharing for personal accounts.

  • So soon there will be no need for nbn

    • a long way away yet.
I cant see people watching, say, 4K netflix over the month on mobile with these data amounts at the moment. Each movie is 10-20GB or so, you really need unlimited.

      • Yeah, that's what I meant by soon.
But I'd be happy to drop to 720p if I could do away with the expensive home internet, etc and have like $40 / month for 200GB and a $200 JB credit in the near future.
I'd just sync spotify on work wifi and all good.

  • -1

Just done one montb of the $39/$200 gift card 20gb plan with JB
Negotiated another 5gb direct with Telstra since then.
If Telstra won't increase the data to this plan…. I'm thinking head back into JB and try to sign up as an existing Telstra cusormer, another 12 month contract, no gift card, but should get the extra data.????

    • Didn't need to go in to store. Took some patience, mainly just waiting for Telstra online chat, first and only CSR tried to fob me off, as it's a JB hi-fi deal only. I just simply asked what they can do for me….
After a few minutes came back with this offer….
So, still paying the same discounted $39 month, no extra charge, no extension on contract, now upgraded to 45GB data.
Wasn't a bad response at all.

      • Don’t suppose you saved chat logs, or remember what you said and the name of who you spoke to?

        • +1

          Screen shot of the conversation.
But it's already on the T24/7 app as 45GB
I said I was disappointed that a month ago I signed up and only got 20GB, but now it's 50GB.
I waited a fair while for them to come back to me, but then offered 45GB.

  • Living on a boat and my 30gb/mth with optus/jennee is not quit enough so this will be great.
Bummer that JB don't stock the lenovo tab 4 8 as that'd take care of the gift card.

  • +3

I signed up the $45 plan and got my gift card etc. I noticed on the paperwork that the plan gave 15GB. I queried this with the salesperson and he said that Telstra would add on the extra 35GB at the back end. I've been on chat with Telstra this morning and they started out by demanding that I have written proof of this extra data offer (even after posting the URL for this bargain). I told the chat person that I did query the data quota with the salesperson but didn't get it in writing. After much to and fro he/she said that the extra data should be added in the next 3-5 business days.

Short version - I'd advise anyone taking up this offer to have the salesperson change the '15' to '50' on the paperwork and signing it (just to cover your butt).

    • yeah , it weird. Bonus data is not mentioned on things like this.
and they say bonus because after 12months if you continue it drops back to the non-bonus amount (15GB in this case)

    • I just upgraded from my previous plan to the $45 for 50gb plan, but they didn't give me the $200 gift card. I forgot about it and I guess it seems he forgot about it too. Did they actually give you the card there and then, or did they say you'll be getting it later?

Edit: I just called JB up and because I was a preexisting customer, I didn't get the gift card.

    • Update - I got a SMS yesterday telling me my data had been increased to 25GB. I hope that in the next day or two I get another telling me I've been increased to 50GB (not that 25GB is terrible).

  • +1

Does anyone know when this expires?

  • Wow. This kills the kogan deals at ~$22/m for 32gb. Sucks that I have 8 months left. Time for kogan to up their data again to 50gb

  • Tough decision - I'm on a $27 Optus plan with 15GB and barely use 8 most months, so 50GB is wildly unnecessary but wouldn't mind better coverage/speed. Assuming I'm able to sell the gift card this would be good value, but that's an if.
Anyone who's ported from Optus to Telstra who can comment on how much better it actually is? (particularly Brisbane area)

    • I ported from Optus to Telstra through JB yesterday. I am currently at my weekly volunteer shift (western suburbs of Brisbane) and I couldn't get coverage before. I get full coverage now. I also had to port my father from Optus to Aldi (Telstra wholesale) at Slacks Creek and he gets full coverage, where before he was extremely lucky to get service. The extra coverage you'll get from Telstra will really depend on where you go in Brisbane (but I'm sure you know that!).

      • Similar scenario as u. I live southern Brisbane suburb and I ported to Optus late last year from Telstra. Immediately my coverage dropped dramatically and I was getting no coverage at my house. I ended up having to port back to Telstra within 2 weeks

    • +1

how do you find Optus though, seems I ave about the same use as you. (coverage on Gold Coast and Bris/Sunshine Coast)
$35 for 30GB seems fine - I dont want to spend $45 even though I am with Telstra. Wanting a plan around $35 or less.

      • +1

Yep same here I need a Telstra or Telstra reseller plan around $30 - $35 with 20gb and I am happy.

    • Some reports on here about speed shaping with the bonus data plan…

  • Do you get a gift card to use as you please or must you buy an insanely overpriced phone from JB to get voucher?

    • +1

The $45 plan lets you use the voucher as you see fit. The others are locked to buying phones.

  • Wow! Telstra $45pm for 12m with 50GB & $200 JB Gift Card, so good, but my plan with Optus ends on the 25th. If I cancel my plan with them now, it will be costly.

    • just wait. plans wont get worse.

  • +2

    When does this deal expire?

  • +1

Hey guys I went to JB this morning to sign my missus up for this deal as she’s moving from Virgin.

So yes $45 for 50gb with $200 JB gift card.

Paper work says 15gb, and the 35gb is from Telstra as a bonus, received an SMS right away with the total quota being 50gb per month.

I’m an existing Telstra customer and asked if there’s anyway I can get this plan too? I was on $39, and the great helpful rep at JB Liverpool said yep I can upgrade as long as it’s considered an upgrade, i.e more than the current plans amount, but obviously I will not get the $200 gift card. Was going to be a hassle to port out and back in and also the promo I was told ends on 24th/26th of this month.

  • Hello all,
Need your help in understanding the plans as I have been getting mixed info from different stores. One of the stores have confirmed the extra data available from today but I can’t get a right answer on International calls inclusion. I went to a store last night and they confirmed the $65 BYO plan has international calls included at no extra cost but they don’t have stock and updated data info. Went to a different store and they denied the international calls.

Can someone please confirm whether it’s included on $65 plan.
    Thanks

    • Can someone please confirm whether it’s included on $65 plan.

Telstra’s $49 BYO S Plan doesn’t, their $69 M Plan does (15 countries) does, so I’d think the inclusions are similar.

      but they don’t have stock

So you need your phone of choice on hand to seal the deal?

      • +1

My issue is the same that no one is confirming whether it’s included. The store which can confirm the inclusions won’t agree to updated data and still offering 45Gb.
The phone stock is not mandatory as it can booked for when the stock comes.
        Thanks

    • Make your international calls for free using whatsapp or something similar - no need for included international call minutes

    • +1

No international calls included with either plan. International calls are PAYG.

      • Is the usual Telstra $10 a month option available?

  • Been a prepaid user for so long I forget how these post paid plans work

What happens if you go over your 50GB in a month? Does it shape?

    • Probably get charged for excess data at something like $10/GB

      • Ahhh the trap that has prevented me from these plans.

I feel like I’m one surprise iOS update or iCloud backup away from a $100 bill.

        Still though, 50GB, that’s huge. Makes one consider cutting my $60pm 10Mbps / 1mbps up ADSL2….

A mate said there was shaping theses days, what’s the best way to check?

        • Ok looks like shaping is possible down to 1.5mpbs

  • I've been on a former $60 plan with 12GB, free national & international calls to selected countries (with $10 discount) for some time now and looking to upgrade my GB. Was tempted, last month to drop the international calls and go on a $45 plan. But after talking with Telstra customer service they were willing to apply a $10 discount on their new $69 plan (which includes the international call).

So I might wait until Telstra update their BYO Sim offers and have them match JBHIFI's offer of double data & price and then get the customer loyalty discount which would bring the plan back to $55. If all else fails, well I just walk into JBHIFI and sign up.

  • +1

I went to JB a couple of hours ago and upgraded my previous plan to the $45 for 50gb plan. I still had 44 days left on my old plan and I'll have to pay $66 for the device buy out. It's definitely possible to get the deal as an existing customer, they only downside is the fact that you don't get the $200 gift card.

    • or you can get an optus sim, activate it for a few days, go in and add an additional service, get $200 GC and then cancel your old plan when it expires.

      • That would require getting a new number, wouldn’t it ?

    • Was the plan you were on a JB plan?

      • Nah, it was a plan directly with telstra that included a mobile as well.

  • Quick question guys. Is it possible to share the data using your phone (e.g. iPhone 6 Plus) as a hotspot? I'm considering cutting my ADSL2+ with the speed of 12/1MB - currently pay $50pm.

    • Tethering is allowed.

      • Thanks. Makes sense. As we don't use much data on our ADSL2+ connection these Telstra plans will pretty much cover our internet needs.

        • If they’re Telstra plans, Peace of Mind data for another $10 as an option.

          • @quarrymaster: Interesting, never thought of this. Do they cap speed on Peace of Mind?

            • @Ievgen: Ok, looks like capped at 1.5MB. Does anyone know if Peace of Mind is included with these plans?

              • +1

@Ievgen: no peace of mind on these plans. Peace of mind plans also do not allow you to tether.

                • +1

                  @shiningstars:

no peace of mind on these plans. Peace of mind plans also do not allow you to tether.

                  Where did you find this?

                  • @quarrymaster: POM allows tethering but not the use of the SIM in anything but a mobile, so you cant use it in a modem

                    • @srhardy: Thought as much. You should’ve been responding to @shiningstars!

  • Being a postpaid Telstra customer, I am looking at porting out to optus then port back in to take advantage of this deal.

But in terms of how long I need to be out of telstra before porting back in, some say 5 days, some say 2 week and a few say 30 days.

What is the official word on this?

    • +2

I was told 30 days today by JB rep. That's why I CBF, and by then the deal is over, apparently it ends on 26th of Oct. The $200 is very enticing to jump through hoops etc, but just don't have time to waste, so upgraded my existing $39 Telstra plan that's ended contract to the $45 one, but I obviously am not entitled to $200 gift card.

      • Where does it state the end date?

        • I asked the rep, could be wrong. I think the end date is referring to the $200 gift card

    • i had a 6 day optus plan and it worked yesterday.

      • +1

Wow.. Did you inform JB hifi that you have just ported out/back? So they won't check anything in system and just give you the offer instantly?
