Nothing - not even a $10 loyalty credit. Time to do the porting in/out thing again. I did it a year ago to get on this plan. Went from the VF shop across the road to JB's and it all took about 15 mins. Just a PITA.

        • So can you confirm that you ported out and back in on the same day ?

          • +2

@cruiseronroad: Yes, I did it almost exactly a year ago - all within about 15 minutes. I made sure they had ported me over in the VF shop to a pre-paid simcard I said I was testing at home for service.

I told the bloke at JB what I was going to do before i did it to make sure he would. Maybe he turned a blind eye - maybe it depends on who serves you.

Got the $49 for 20 GB, 6 months Apple Music free & a $200 JB HiFI gift Card that I was spending on a phone right then in store.

            • @Fitzy777: Thanks Legend,

I'll have to give this a crack. I signed up on the deal last year also.

              • @cruiseronroad: Good luck mate - others on here have said they couldn't do it/JB wouldn't do it.
Worst case, you are stuck on VF for a month - or even just port out to the $14.90 Kogan deal for 3 months with 17GB pm.

              • @cruiseronroad: @cruiseronroad
                @Fitzy777
Interesting. Let us know how both of you go. My plan ends on the 24th of this month, so looking at options

                • +1

@kmish: Well I just got back from JB, no bueno. Said they are cracking down on it this year, but I’m going to try another later. I did ask before porting as I wasn’t sure how it would go.

He was willing to give me the plan today, however not the GC.

He also mentioned that you couldn’t get this deal in Telstra chat, however it appears others have so whose to say.

                  • +1

@cruiseronroad: Have now visited 3 stores and officially giving up ! They all are going to be strict on the 30 day limit which is fair enough.

            • @Fitzy777: May I know which jb hifi store was that? Would like to have a try.

              • @anjel: Went to my local JBHifi store today and ported from Optus to Telstra through JBHifi, Sim working straight away and so happy with $45/50GB 12M plan plus $200 Gift card. Beauty.

                • @Bluering48: Some people are having success with immediate (almost) port out before signing up … just wanted to know, do the JB Hifi systems tell them when your signup date with Optus/VF was? ie how do they actually know how many days elapsed? Or is it that some JB reps don't care/don't check?

  • +10

50GB is plenty for when the NBN goes down!

    • +14

      Most likely faster too!

  • +2

just spoke to a JB Hifi rep about this deal and for customer who signed up to last week will have their byo plan updated to the latest offer, so there isn't a requirement to head into the store and sign up.

    • Hey, did they tell you how and when it would be updated? We literally signed the contract last night without any knowledge of the 50gb update!

      • +1

They said wait two weeks, as there is a backlog of customers who signed up.

Alternatively since its a byo plan you can change plans when you want with nil ETF.

        • My contract for the 25gb plan I signed up last week for clearly states 270$ ETF

          • @p3t0r: From my discussion with jb hifi the ETF is waivered when you change to another byo plan

        • +2

I managed to get a hold of a JB telco staff, told him of my situation and he said 'rest assured' your bonus 35gb of data will be applied to your account in 72hrs. They appear to be applying it to people who signed up recently.

        • Was just told the same thing. The employee I spoke to referred to an internal memo they received this morning…guess we just keep an eye on it!

          • @Tacosaurus Rex: Was that to switch to the $45 with 50GB deal - I signed up on the 12th September?

            What chance do I have?

      • -1

        cool off period… use it?

        • No cooling off period for Telco unless they approach your door.

    • Really hope this eventuates. Signed up for the $45 for 25GB deal last week, but 25GB is still not quite enough due to my abysmal 2mbps home ADSL connection (still waiting on NBN).

  • +2

Don't get the restriction on new or port-in.

Why wouldn't you want to lock existing customers in for 12 months?

Is it because most wouldn't go to the effort of porting out, so they end up paying more?

    • +2

I went to Telstra store to ask this directly. The guy told me Telstra is only concerned about gaining new customers. As a current Telstra customer, he told me I couldn't get the current offer unless I port out for 1 week. He also said they aren't bothered with the competition having better offers because they knew they have superior coverage/service.

      • So he's saying the competition is better but they're not going to lower their prices because of that.

So much for free market ideology lel.

        • +2

          That's not what he's saying

        • They're saying they as Telstra have better coverage/service.

    • all in hopes of increasing share price by publishing an increase in new customers.

Yes, I know its crazy, I want a similar deal only available to new customers that would suit me better, $39 pm, 20GB and peace of mind/data slows. But no matter what I say or ask , nope is the answer - forcing a long time customer to look at other providers, maybe Optus 30GB for $35 with free streaming.

  • +2

So effectively $28.33 per month for 50GB if you can fully use the Gift Card for something you were gonna buy anyway?

    • That's what I'm thinking. Or better yet exchange the gift card for money with a lovely human on OzBargain who is planning to shop at JB.

      Insane price for 50GB

  • Does this plan include data share (so the data allowance can be shared with another data-only SIM for extra $5 per moths, like with some other Telstra plans)?

    • +4

Looked it up and data share is only available on Small business plans, they stopped them for new consumer plans a few months ago

    • no, no new plans have data share anymore.

    • Data share has been discontinued as a new option. Existing a sims/plans will still work.

      • Unless you don’t already have a Shared Data SIM. :(

  • Awesome deal, I'll be heading into JB tomorrow to take advantage!

  • Can I be an existing Telstra customer, and just go in and get a new number? I've got less than two months left of my existing plan anyway so I'd seriously consider doing that!

    • Of course I can get a new number. However two months later you can not put your main number to this contract. I am on the same situation.

  • does the 445pm for 12m have international calls and texts?

  • I just paid for my bill with Optus… If I buy sign up to this do I have to activate straight away or am I given a sim and can do it at my own discretion? Never tried a phone plan with JB so I'm not entirely sure how it works.

    • +1

They streamline the porting process - the gift card is not handed to you until the Telstra rep calls back and confirms that the number has been ported.
Activation is done on the day, likely within the hour.

If you just paid for your bill with Optus and port out now, you will get any unused portion back as a credit as it's a month in advance / pro-rata?

      • Thank you!

      • Can confirm that if you port out from Optus you'll get credit back on pro-rata basis. I had to actually call Optus to transfer money to my credit card, as the credit was shown in my monthly bills even thought I had no service anymore.

  • Would always jump back board if they do have similar roaming plans like voda, being with telstra for the last two years and every time go overseas this thing just annoying as hell, $10/day gonna end up a big bill if you stayed bit longer and want to get connected & use ur telstra plan :(

  • um i signed up last month for a plan $39 per month with a $200 or $300 credit (cant remember) for porting to telstra. Min you this is a good deal especially for all of the other services they offer such as telstra thanks and premium coverage. Im pretty happy with it :) id highly recommend this

    • How much data?

      • 20GB. This is far superior for GB per/$

      • 20GB and peace of mind data I think.

  • +1

Years ago I was always charged a port out fee, is that not the case anymore?

    • TPG probably one of the few that still do @$11

    • 24/7 app suggests an $8 port out fee on top of any termination payment.

  • +3

Can you sign up with an ABN for this deal so you can still get data share?

    • Would love to know this too

  • Hey guys,

I cannot find this deal on Telstra or JB-Hi. Can anyone please post a link ?

    • Was in store today and they advised just updated last night, and to go into store for offer!

      Purchase @ JB Hi-Fi

      • thanks mate. Heading to the store

  • FYI for current Telstra customers, call Telstra and see if they'll match this deal. I did it with the last JB HiFi deal and Telstra gave me a $5/month credit and 5Gb/month bonus data.

    • +3

So Telstra offered you $500 credit for a handset ?

    • Do you mind me asking what you requested?

  • Signed up for the 25gb deal on Wednesday, which is annoying, but I won’t get through that anyway so no real loss.

    • +1

Unconfirmed reports that they will give u 50gb within two weeks automatically if u signed up to last deal few days ago.

      • +3

Any existing JB Mobile customer will get the bonus data added before COB next Thursday

        • I assume you’re referring to the $45/25GB not the $39/20GB JB customers, and there’s no capacity to RPC to this from the $39/20GB?

  • +2

Waiting on Optus. $36 for 60GB

  • +20

Also FYI to existing Telstra customers, I called JB and spoke to someone from mobiles, who confirmed this deal is only for new customers and port ins. However, they are looking to expand the deal to existing customers and believe this option will be available over the next week. Sit tight

    • Oh nice. Perhaps I will wait before porting out and back in..

      • Definitely. I suggested the port out and port back in option to the guy, and he said just wait as they have confirmation from head office, and anticipate it over the next week. Where as the port out needs to be for a duration of 30 days before porting back in.

        • Awesome. Ta

          • @Moses: Keen to see if this eventuates. I’d rather not port out and back in.

            • +1

@Monorail: Would make things a lot easier!

    • just watching!

    • Following.

    • +3

Well I guess the week had ended now, have you heard any updates?

  • hi guys. if im on an existing plan with optus, can i port out this number to telstra, and have someone else use their number on my optus plan?

(obviously i can port to the new telstra number, but just wanna know if someone can make use of my current optus plan)

    cheers.

    • Just sign up on one of these Telstra plans as a new customer. You get the good deal on Telstra and your existing number stays on Optus with your current plan. Am I missing something here?

      • i dont want to be paying for 2 plans that's all.

so i have someone that can take over my optus plan, but they'd want their own number

Me - existing optus plan, port out to new telstra plan
friend - use their number to port into my optus plan.

  • +2

any $35 plans or strictly $45 and up?

  • Tried asking Telstra chat a few times, no go. All good, just port to Optus prepaid for a month and then join back.

    • Port to ALDI prepaid and you still get to enjoy the Telstra network. Depends where you live/work though I suppose. I get sent all over Victoria for work (ironically installing Telco towers) and having a Telstra SIM is pretty much essential.

  • Ok this has made my mind up for me. I'm porting out and back in!

  • +1

FYI - I have talked to Telstra online chat and had a friend talk to JB in store and both have confirmed that they are going to backdate this for anyone who signed up for the $45-25gb or $65-45gb plans.

  • +1

I'd happily port my number across if Telstra covers the break cost fee

  • Wow that is a good deal, even though I struggle to use my 25Gb plan right now with Telstra. Unless I watch video everyday I cannot see how I can use that much data right now.

  • Does anyone know what plan equivalent this is on Telstra? I'm just curious what else other than data is included; ie. Foxtel Now is included in L plans, Peace of Mind included in M and L plans, etc.

    • You won't get any of the above aside from Apple Music quota free I think.

    • ($49 plan + 5gb bonus) x Double.

      • Thanks — forgot to mention I was after the 24 month plan; can't work out which plan those map to…

  • +2

When will this deal be expire. ?

  • +4

If 50GB is way more than you'd need, then I can't see much value for the $65 Plan as you're locked in for 24 months instead of 12.

So if you got the $500 credit (for a phone!) with the $65 Plan, that's about $21 a month, effectively you would pay around $44 a month for 80GB. It's a little worse for cheaper phones where you only get $300 credit (for a phone).

Meanwhile, $200 JB Gift Card (you could use that, right?) is just over $16 a month, effectively $29 a month, and you're only locked in for 12 months. As long as 50GB is enough.

    • If you're after a new iPhone Xr the plans are fairly close. If you calculate over two years, it's effectively $8 a month more on the $65 plan. It's up to you to decide if $8 per month is worth the extra data (if you would stick with the $45 plan for another year anyway).

      1299-200/24= $45.79 plus $45 = $90.79

      1299-500/24= $33.29 plus $65 = $98.29

      • -1

The $45 plan is 12 months making your handset payments around $91/mth. Total $136/mth for 12 months or $1639.

        • Why would you need to "pay off" your phone in 12 months? Just take the $46 per month (over 24 months) to whatever is an even better deal in 12 months time! Heck, there may be yet another $200 voucher which you could add to the money you get for selling your 12-month old iPhone for the next iPhone!

[I wasn't the one who negged you.]

        • I calculated over 24 months to compare plans. You can stay on the $45 plan after your contract expires.

  • +1

Damn, got on the $39/m for 20GB. The extra $6 for an extra 30GB would be a no-brainier.

    • -1

I'm sure if you offer to pay them more there's a good chance they'll match it.
