  • Thanks TA!

Remember CR for additional 2% :)

    • Unfortunately not with this merchant & deal:

Cashback is ineligible when using coupon codes not listed on Cashrewards.

      • +2

Dang, and I thought I was being smart :(

Still good offer; I paid $15 for $40 before at Coles before.

        • I paid $20 and I thought that was cheap.

  • should I get one to top up my current number?

    • Thanks TA!
Same question here. Can the $40 credit from this SIM card be used towards an existing Belong mobile account?

      • +6

NO. But if your existing Belong mobile account refers your new account, both accounts will get a $20 credit. So for $13.50 you can effectively recharge $20 on your main account, get a bunch of data on the new throwaway account, then gift that data to your main account.

I believe there's a limit on how many referrals a single account can receive (like five or ten, too lazy to look it up), but you could always port out on a cheap Kogan deal for a month then port back in to reset the clock (to be extra safe you may want to use a different email).

        • +1

          Limit is 10, so $200.

    • same question. I already have a belong number, how can I use this for my existing number.

      • +1

You can make a new account using a different email and then gift the data to your existing account.

  • Looks like a good way to get some light wifi at the holiday house (?)

  • Hopefully more business to Belong means better support.

  • does this include the international unlimited calls?

  • -2

Happy New Year to TA and all fellow ozbargainers.
TA - any eBay 10% discounts coming up in the next couple of days?

    • vinery - I hear ya with the ebay code… I think I got too greedy waiting and now have missed out on the 5% off code too. :(

      • PACKAGE15 still active if you buy two items of similar value.

  • 12 month means I can activate it anytime before Jan 2020?

  • Shows me the full price when added to cart. OzBargained already ?
    Edit: works now!

    • +2

Use the coupon code after it's added to cart. Also, it shows shipping charges before you start typing your address in; once you put your address in, the values all change to $0 (also note, that even if you pick a shipping method before you type your address, it still calculates as $0 toward the total, so no worries). But do double-check before you enter payment details, $13.50 if just one and $27 if two.

      • Make sure to choose Flat rate or the postage charge will apply

        • When I went through checkout, all the options changed to $0. I picked the fastest option, "Flat Rate - Express - AusPost eParcel (1~3 days)" and it shows as $0. I was correctly charged $27 total (two sims). Same for my wife's order.

It's possible it varies depending on your shipping address, so again, double check that it's actually charging $0 for shipping before proceeding.

  • can this be used to sign up for Small 1gb/month to last for 4 months?

    • +2

Yes (unless anything has changed in the last week).

I signed up last month with a referral so I have enough credit for 6 months (in my case the $40 SIM was free).

Theoretically, those on the small plan that want extra months and don't care about data would be better off ordering a free SIM with their own referral code (to a new email account). One guy 'round here said he never received more than one SIM in the mail so maybe it's worth changing the first name and/or last name in the signup form (unlike Telstra, it's a plain ol' unregistered letter).

      • +1

I did not know this. Thank you so much. And thanks TA for a great deal

      • When you order the free Belong sim with referral can you use referral credit for first recharge?

        • Yep.

But I added $5 to get 10 GB (5 + 5) instead of 2GB (1 +1), or really 9 GB since they wouldn't activate the SIM until it's in a phone. For data gift hacking it pretty much turns out the same value as a $40 starter pack for $15.

      • Thanks for posting this peterpeterpumpkin eater. Just to be clear, I ordered a free SIM back in May last year (not the $40 sim, just a free one from the belong website) and never used it. Are you saying I can extend this $13.50 deal 2 months by also setting up the free SIM and that will give me a referral code to apply to the $13.50 SIM (and will the free SIM also get $20 which can be used for 2 months on $10 plan)?
Extracting the best value is confusing but fun!

        • Exactly. But that's assuming you remembered to enter a referral code when ordering the free SIM to actually make it free. When you go to set it up it will actually give you the name of the person that referred you and apply the credit.

So you setup the free SIM first on one email and refer yourself on another email. If using the same Android phone to setup via the app you may have to clear data to avoid bugs.

          • @peterpeterpumpkin: "assuming you remembered to enter a referral code when ordering the free SIM to actually make it free"?
hmmm, no, back then you could just order a free SIM, no referral code required.

    • +2

Yes, I just did it a few days ago.

Make sure to use a referral code for an extra $20 so it works out to be 6 months.

  • Can someone tell me why this is a good deal when there are other starter packs for $5 or less?

    • +7

      It's Belong:

      • $20 referral credit (so you can get 6 months out of the $13 if you don't care about data)
      • Gifting the data to your main number easily (no hoops to go through like porting out and waiting and porting in)
      • Shaped data when it runs out (no being stranded or being forced to topup when you just need a bit of Google maps to get to your destination)
      • Cheaper data than other providers if you need to top up in an emergency ($10/2GB instead of $10/1GB)
      • No automatic topups (don't you just hate it when you get automatically charged $10 (or a lot more if there's something sucking data you don't know about) just before your plan renews when you'd have been perfectly happy going without for a day or just hunting for free WiFi)
      • Infinite data banking (every other provider I know about only lets you rollover one month, so you can't save up data over many months for a future time when you might need a lot e.g. being in a hotel with no or expensive WiFi)
      • It also uses the Telstra network (anyone on Vodafone will know this is excellent).
      • Isn't it part of the Telstra Network not the full coverage

        • I'm not sure, probably, but it has better coverage than Optus where I live & spend time (Optus had no signal in most of my work building, but when I started on Belong I suddenly had at least a little signal everywhere, only went out in one or two of the meeting rooms).

          • @Quantumcat: wifi calling enabled ??

            • @sajidmib: No.
              Also no voicemail.

Seems they would like to bring the voicemail but I will be over the moon if WiFi Calling is enabled.

        • Wholesale network, so YMMV.

        • +2

Yes you are correct, you can see the coverage map for both on the Telstra site (think the Telsta one is called extended)
There is a little bit of difference and not that much. I have been to a mine site miles from nowhere and could not get any Vodafone signal for the whole trip bit but Belong worked most places.

        • +1

'YMMV' seems more applicable than ever.

Family are on a variety of Amaysim, Virgin, Optus, Voda. They're always discussing good/bad areas. I cover a lot of ground & work in some greenfield areas, where even my Telstra business sim (iPhone 6) hits ZERO reception.

My Aldi works everywhere my Telstra does. $8.25/mth

          • @Ulysses31: I don't think you will get much difference in metro area.

Belong still missing out VoLTE and WiFi Calls (as form of VoLTE technology) and Aldi and Woolworths won't do those as well.
All data is on 4G but when you make phone calls, it will switch back to 3G UMTS.
Additionally, you won't reach such speed

        • +1

No belong is owned by Telstra but they use the wholesale network, pretty much same coverage with Aldi Mobile.
Their Internet service is also not BigPond network.

      • +2

Thanks a lot for the detailed response :)

      • "Infinite data banking"
        Aldi also does it.

      • Hi Quantumcat, I will be a new customer.

        • Does OzBargain have a random referrer pool for Belong, to pick a referrer?
        • The $20 you mentioned I assume is given to the referrer, does the referee gets any credit as well?
        • Can I use a referrer with this deal - given it requires the promotion code BelongTA?

        Thanks in advance.

PS. I can see Belong in the referral page, when I look into my account's referral section, but I don't know where to go to get a random referrer code. Unlike say, Amex, where it is shown on Amex deals, it is not shown here.

        • +1

For your first question, Belong referrals are on Belong Store Page.

        • +2

          As hamza said

          Referrer gets $20 too

You use the referrer code when you activate

          • +2

            @Quantumcat: @hamza23 & @Quantumcat - thank you both for the info.

  • can these be stacked?

    • By gifting to self.
Great comments above, including one from josetann

  • Thanks

  • +1

aww, the code's no longer valid, I'm guessing OOS? :(

EDIT: Just tried again and the code's working now, thanks OP! :)

    • +6

      Hi greenie

Yes, 300 sold, we just added some more stock. Thanks for your support & Happy New Year!

      • +2

Thank you, I just ordered 2 :) Happy New Year!

      • so you get 30Gb in the first month (or is it 60Gb ie double?), how much is the second and subsequent months?

  • This effectively gives you 30GB of data + free calls to 36 countries for a month for $13.50, good deal.

    .

    • +1

How did you derive at 30GB of data? Which plan is this on?

      • +1

If you activate before the "cut-off" dates, it'll give you double data. All 6 Belong SIMS I've activated has given me double data…

        .

  • Still available at Coles for $15 if you don't want to wait for delivery.

  • Can you add international call in the middle or you billing cycle if you only chose small or medium plan without initially adding the international call option?

    • Don't think so.
I kept mine on all the time so I am paying $15pm.

      • Thanks mate, I might just do the same for extra $5, not a bad deal for unlimited international calls to 36 countries.

  • +2

I got one from the last (Cellmate) deal and today I'm getting errors porting over.
Customer support from Belong is terrible, at least for today.
No live chat, my query has gone 8 hours unanswered, and the support line just gives me an automated message to ask for help online.

    • that's literally a good point and sounds like a trade-off.
but think again how often you will need customer support for your sim plan.

      • Sure won't need customer support much in today's day and age - but when need it, sure need it.
And right now my case has gone over 24 hours unanswered. I'm giving it til end of today before I port to another network.

    • AGREE.
My SIM was damaged (same deal from Cellmate) and it was a gift to my friend. None of the mobile phones can recognise the SIM.
She needs to wait almost two weeks to have replacement SIM delivered. The SIM turned out in the mailbox luckily.

However, I trust we don't need the support from that point onwards I guess.

  • Question about Belong data banking - Can you sign up on the large $40 15GB plan and then then next month change to the $10 1GB plan and keep the banked up data from the first month? I use about 2-3GB per month so 15gb in the first month then moving to $10 per month plan would be ideal. I know some other providers (like Aldi mobile) let you data bank but only if you stay on the same plan or more to a larger one. Changing to a smaller plan means you loose any banked up data. Anyone able to find Belongs policy on this?

    • +7

Yep data will be banked, also make sure to activate your sim on any day except 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th to get another 15 GB to take advantage of their billing cycle!

      • How does this thing work? Transfer out bank data right away and it refreshes the next closest billing day?

        • +1

          Yes.
For example, you can activate on 3rd so you will get 15GB on 3rd +15GB on 4th.

You need to make sure your service can be ported and activate successfully but this shouldn't be a big issue during porting 'business hours'.

My three recent porting were lightning fast, including Amaysim, Telstra Postpaid and Optus Postpaid.

      • legend!

  • Can I activate it in 3 weeks? Would be perfect for a friend coming from oversea.

    • +1

      yes

      • Thanks!

        • +1

          Welcome & happy new year;)

  • Anyone getting an "Oops, something went wrong. Please try again later." error on the last page of the activation?

    • That's very common issue with Belong

      • +4

        That means you don't Belong.

  • Hey guys & girls…totally new to the SIM game as I've been on contract all my phone life I reckon. Currently paying waaay to much on a phone that's contract has just expired. Samsung S7 with Optus, paying $76 a month and I know own the phone outright.

So is this something you need to buy new again each month, do you just top it up or do you need a new card each month? Also since my phone is with Optus I'll have to cancel that first? Sorry just confused about the whole thing and with work in limbo at the moment I can't continue to pay what I'm paying. Min data I'd be after would be 10gb a month.

    • +1

Go with Kogan if you have vodaphone coverage in your area. Currently I'm paying 15 bucks for 20 gigs of data (which was originally 17 gigs and later they increased) plus free national calls and SMS.

      • +1

If you don't use much data, the $10 a month with rollover is a better deal. No sense in paying for what you won't use.

    • If you're in a Metro area, dont't intend to travel remote, can use non-Telstra fine from your house (as a landline substitute) and use a lot of data then I wouldn't bother with Belong.

The financial benefit otherwise is only for low data users that will get screwed by the industry regardless of which plan they choose since they all charge a high minimum. E.g. $13.50 for 6 months of 1GB (plus 1GB bonus in first month) where you can save data some months and get rewarded for this conservation.

      • Ok so I've been with Optus for years, don't have a landline and would like at least 10gb of data. Only becaause I always just go over my 7gb on my current plan. I'm from Reservoir.

So this wouldn't be the deal for me? Anything else you would recommend?

        • +1

Catch Connect (Optus) have a deal now but only for club members: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/427284?page=1#comment

Melbourne has a generally flat terrain and some of your brethren a little south have posted enviable data speeds with Kogan. Kogan has good deals a few times a year with discount codes.

I only use disposable Kogan SIMs for data since I'm planning to go bush and prefer to keep receiving messages on the same number.

        • +1

I am from Reservoir, VIC too :-)

I don't think Belong is ideal for you unless you stay on their $40 plan (or first month $40 plan, second month $10 and keep doing this).

The Optus coverage is quite good in our, or at least in my area (Chaddar Road/Keon Park). I am using Optus 200GB iPad SIM in a modem and I can easily get 60Mbps most of the time. I am doing this because my Telstra ADSL is horrible as I can only get 1.5Mbps most of the time.

I am using belong at the moment and it suits my needs (I am on $10+$5 plan each month). I just keep buying these SIMs and keep referring program going and gift those data back to my main account. I guess if you have to make a switch, you can do a similar trick.

          • @bjdchwr: I guess my biggest worry would be since I'd be going away from my current Optus setup id lose my free from data spotify streaming.

Use that very often, got no idea how much data it would chew up? So I was looking at sims with more data just in case.

  • I'm with Kogan at the moment and I'm able to top up credit for international call If I need to, can you do the same with Belong in between your billing cycle?

    • No you can only make a change once a month.

You cannot buy credit for International calls. I think there is only an on/off switch in their system.

But I think their $5 extra call option is still a good deal.

      • Thanks for confirming, will be porting my number soon after my 365 days kogan sim expire this month.

  • +3

Grabbed 2. Seems like an awesome deal. Happy new year everyone.
