                • @neilpatrickharris: My credit rating is 708 apparently. I try to put everything on my current card at the time and pay it off by end of the month.
I got approved in this card in just a few hours after my early morning application.

        • Check your credit file and see what's wrong with it…

  • +2

Sneaky $49 fee for earning Qantas points.

  • Just applied for the St George Amplify Signature last night, got approval today. 80k bonus points, with $4k spend in 90 days. 0.75 points per dollar spent. Higher first year annual fee, lower following years.

    • +1

As an Ozbargainer, I'm finding the $179 annual fee hard to stomach. Especially when the last time I paid an annual fee (for a Qantas card), St George discounted their's to $0 a few weeks later. Any secrets or did you pay the $179 annual fee?

      • +1

I will pay the $179. I currently have a CBA Platinum Awards with $249 annual fee, which I will cancel. Honestly I have had that card for like 10 years, and never thought of changing. Now with plans to go to Europe next year flying Emirates, QFF points seem appealing.

        • I think I had the cba platinum card. Iirc, they didn't have a foreign exchange transaction fee, so I found that useful when I traveled overseas in 2017. You should check if your new card charges the fee.

          • @bluedufflecoat: St George says 3% fort international transactions, but CBA is the same too, https://www.commbank.com.au/personal/credit-cards/card-fees-…

            • @AdosHouse: Ahh, they must have changed it.

              • @bluedufflecoat: When I went to Europe the last 2 time, I took a travel money card with me with all my spending money on it. I only took my CC as an emergency backup if shit gets real. Had it locked down completely on the CBA app.

So when I go back to Europe next year I will take a travel card again. Qantas one doesn't look too bad. I used Travelex last time, good rates if purchased online.

                • +4

@AdosHouse: Don't use those travelex cards or similar they are a complete rip off. Here, try this: https://www1.citibank.com.au/banking/bank-accounts/citibank-…
No fees for ATMs, excellent exchange rate etc. You are welcome :)

                  • @Sira: They had the best XE rate at the time I bought the currency, and they also charge no ATM or transaction fees overseas.

And I did have a backup Citi Plus account, but I bought my currency about 6 months before I went, because I thought the XE rate to Euros would worsen.

  • +1

Uhhhh I just applied/got approved for the Virgin deal with 75k points (3 months x $1.5k spend) which is Citibank.
Doubt they will approve me in such a small window another application.

    • +8

Actually, the small window may be why it gets approved if there is a lag in updating your credit record.

      • Only problem is the Virgin card I have is through Citibank as well, they can see it.

Last time I went for the Qantas Premier card, they saw my citibank credit card and asked if i could lower the limit on it so they can approve the Qantas Premier one… sneaky sneaky!

Edit. Just checked my credit file on credit savvy and yes the enquiry is already there with Citibank for the Virgin card meh!

  • Can you switch from another Citi card to this, or do you have to be a new customer to Citibank

  • Will having a Citibank debit plus card affect the eligibility of the bonus points?

    • +1

Just confirmed on live chat that you will be fine with an existing Citibank debit card.

      • +4

        Why the neg though?

        • +1

          Mentioned below.

        • +3

          butthurtedness

  • what's the min credit limit on this card?

  • -8

    Wow, I was instantly declined..
I already have two credit cards and I think the min credit limit $15k was the bummer.

    • +8

So you’re negging because you don’t meet the criteria.

  • +11

Got instantly declined with 120k salary, perfect credit score.
I understand the bank looks at some of the other criterias. But, really?

    • +1

      That's brutal

I applied for the St George Amplify Signature, on a $60k salary, with a car loan and personal loan, and I did not realise the card had a $15k minimum limit, and I got approved within 24 hours.

    • probably they don't like ozbargainer

    • +8

Stupid thing about these decline is they don’t tell you why you were declined.

      • Is it worth to call them up?

        • +6

Nah they just give you a standard response like we based it off credit scores, yadi ya… Not worth it especially dealing with Citibank.

        • I've called them up once about 7 years ago when investigating why I was declined a Virgin card and they told me why, so probably depends on who you get

    • I'm on 155-165 (variable due to side gigs) and got rejected last time, probably won't try my luck again…

      • +3

Maybe it’s because you’re making too much and they can’t extract anything out of you.

        • Might help if your address is in battler suburbs rather than tree-lined street areas.

    • What's your total credit limit on your other credit cards?

      • $9000 in total

        • That's not even a lot. I've had bad experiences with citibank in the past.

          • @aceaceace1234: I know, right? I got declined on St George Signature before as well. Very interesting.

            • +3

@ty99234: Well that completely changes the equation.

If you've been declined by two different providers on two different occasions, I'd be investigating your credit score.

There could be a black mark against it for some reason.

    • im the same as you, got conditional approval straight away and no problems with the last st george deal. maybe theres a problem with your credit file?

    • I know someone on 190k salary who got declined too (perfect credit score too)… not sure why they decide to decline

      • +3

Like i said the bank are not making money on these people. They’re making money on the medium to low income earners who forget to pay their credit card bill now and then.

    • Nice salary, I approve.

      • +7

        Declined as well.
$12k credit limit on other cards, perfect credit score, 110k income and no mortgage and living at home with parents (no rent).

        • maybe cause you have other cards? like not much credit ability left?

        • Are you sure you don't hold any other citi cards recently? I was miffed too but became apparent my qantas money card was citi provided

    • +2

You negged deal because you got declined?

      • +15

I negged deal because I got "random" and "unreasonable" decline.

        • Probably holds another citi issued card without realising (there a few, such as qantas money cc)

        • +10

Neg was helpful. Deterred me from applying.

        • It has nothing to do with the fact that this is a good deal

    • Same here! I get monthly credit score updates and have an awesome credit score. Never been declined by any other bank for anything, but got an instant decline with Citibank….what other criteria do they look at?

    • -3

I work at maccas flipping burgers for $5 per hour and got approved for 10 of these

    • Out of curiosity, did you have a previous citi card linked to a points deal, even years ago?

  • +1

just recently got points from the st georges visa, just signed to this one.

    • still waiting for the 80k points to appear in my QFF account, I've been waiting 86 days now and they've told me to wait the full 90 days. Fingers crossed. how long did it take for you for the 80k bonus points to appear? The monthly points have been added on time.

      • Didn't count… just checked and they were there.. but its been over 3 months

  • I have only ever had three credit cards- Amex, visa and MasterCard.. I want to close my visa that has only been opened for 6 months. Should I do it before or after applying for this card?

Amex has been open for 8 yrs. and MasterCard opened for 2 months.

    • After.

      • Why after

        • In case of rejection which is highly likely from other people exp

  • +10

Got instant rejection, $110K Salary, no loans , no mortgage or any debt no other credit cards.

last time this happened to me was with St George bank Signature offer, i am not sure what is going on, not sure what's on my file that's causing rejections??? Looks like i can't apply for any credit cards anymore, anyone else with this problem?

    • +3

We are on the same page. I'm 120k with no mortgage. Instantly declined

      • +1

Seems like having a mortgage really helps in this situation? Seems to be a weak pattern of rejection based on reasonable income with no mortgage.

    • What and when was the latest citibank issues card you have got? Eg Qantas Premier, virgin money etc

    • +4

120k, mega mortgage, lots of other credit cards LOL… instant approval!

      • +3

So it seems they’re looking for people with a lot of debt. Interesting, this is similar to what happened with Macquarie credit card.

        • I have a mortgage with $0 balance (no annual fee) and had been pretty goood with getting approvals in the last 7 years of card churning.

    • +1

I actually tried to apply for St george singature offer and got declined as well. Interesting

      • Did you apply to these soon after one another? There were some suggestions that multiple credit enquiries in a short time window correlates to high credit risk.

Pacing is important. Try to limit it to one every 6 months if you can.

        • No, that was quite a while ago.

    • Mmm 115k, mortgage, dependents and other 10k card. It said 'tentatively' (I forget the exact word) approved with 23k limit :/ Haven't had proper confirmation come through yet.
I too got rejected from St George a year ago.

    • +3

Income is one thing but when you have no debt, lender cannot rely on your serviceability. Earning 110k doesn't mean you will pay-off your debt. It is a good idea to start taking some small credit, maybe start with a phone on plan or something or consider a basic credit card to start with and pay your bills on time. Sometime, all what's wrong in one's credit profile is that there is no credit.

    • +1

Citi along with Macquarie are the worst credit providers issuing credit stay away from them. Previously applied for Qantas Premier (issued by Citi) rejected then applied for Woolies (issued by Macquarie) rejected

    • Recently changed address?
      Recently changed jobs?
Applied for too many credits recently?

These could be the reasons too.

    • +1

Beware guys. Stop applying for a while is my advise. I was also after the points and get declided by both Westpac and St George Bank. Few months past, i tried to sign up for a 24 months contract from Woollies mobile for the new S10 and get declided. I hope they don't mess with me like this when the time come for me to apply for a mortgage

      • Might have to get a lawyer and sue these banks for killing our credit rating

    • +14

Anyone on the forum not on $110k?????

      • Lol should see whirlpool. Provisional approval on only $80k. Admittedly it's pretty good for a grad job.

      • Median income for people that lodged a tax return last year was a pathetic 44K.

        Poverty level is 23K.

      • Yeah, I’m on 500k
        kidding

    • may be you should have morgage :P

    • no loans , no mortgage or any debt no other credit cards

      That's why you're getting declined.

  • Man the minimum income threshold killed the deal for me

    • cough external income cough

  • +2

Does holding the Qantas Premier card affect eligibility? That card seems to be issued by Citi too.

    • +1

Depends when you got it. It's has always been an unspoken rule to not open a citi issued card less than 6 months from the last.

I've successfully had two citi cards Eg citi signature and virgin money / Qantas premier.

      • So what you're saying is, I'm eligible for the bonus points on this deal even if I have an active Qantas Premier, as long as it was opened more than 6 months ago?

        • Correct.

          • @starburstyellow: Thanks. Unfortubately I'm only at the 3-month mark. Not sure if I should try my luck…

            • @cynix: Yeah I wouldn't if you.

              • @starburstyellow: Although a comment below says it's available to current card holders, so perhaps can't hurt to try…

                • @cynix: It is yes, but from reading the aff forums it's best you don't within last 6 months if applying.

                • @cynix: Same boat here. Asked the online chat and call center. It seems like they are confirming that any affiliation card(Qantas premier, Virgin ones) will not affect the application for this one. But judging from the high rejection rate, it will be quite a risky move.

Is this the same as the Qantas Lounge?

    • +1

Priority Pass is a different lounge to Qantas - I dont fly much, but from memory I dont think there is even a 'lounge' at Sydney Airport. But you do get $36 credit to spend at certain airport food outlets or something like that.

      • Correct, it's different to Qantas Lounges.

From Adelaide, you'd be able to go into the Rex Lounge (yay?). For the other Australian airports they serve there's a list here.
