  • Good timing, just cancelled my st george card so looking for another card for bonus points. Let's hope there's an approval.

  • Awesome!!!
Just waiting to cancel my Macquarie bank & once i receive my points from st george card i'll dump it too!!!

    • also waiting on the st george one, not sure if it will ever come.

  • is the $49 fee the standard qantas one or something extra charged by citi?

    • Subject to your acceptance you will be billed an annual card fee of $0 in the first year, when you apply for a new Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card by 30 June 2019. This will revert to the full annual card fee, currently $395, in subsequent years. An additional annual fee of $49 will apply for enrolling in the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program.

      • gotcha so the citibank qantas program is different from the normal qantas account i have.

$49 for 90k points if i can manage to get approved, not bad!

        • I reckon Citi Qantas program is not same as Qantas FF program. I am not sure if you can transfer your points and convert to QFF.

          • @mhc: should be the same

' The bonus Qantas Points will ordinarily be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account within 6 - 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria'

  • I just cancelled a citibank premier card. Do you think this will be an issue?

  • I have heard about people doing refundable flights, hotels. Anyone had an issue with it? I wonder if they'll catch on?

No annual fee makes this one of the best deals around. $49 fee for 90k, easy win! I don't do QFF points but it seems most cards are all about QFF recently.

My Virgin is 1.5k spend per month, so I'm sure thy are switching on!

    • +3

Why cheat the system like that. Then they remove these deals altogether. There are already becoming fewer and far between and with higher annual fees.

I'm all for churning and burning cards but at least make the minimum spends specified and do it in good faith.

      • Agreed, not hard to buy woolies gift cards

  • Are Qantas points better than velocity points??

    • Simple question but extremely complex answer (take into account availability, partner redemptions, etc). I think the easy answer is they're about equal and it depends on which you prefer to fly.

  • Does the $4000 spend include BPAY?

    • Well got time to look now.

To earn 90,000 bonus Qantas Points, you must apply for a new Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card by 30 June 2019, then spend $4,000 on your Citi Signature Qantas Credit Card card within 90 days from approval. Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on the Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold

      BUT for ongoing points

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Points and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

Unless someone can confirm no, BPAY can be used for the $4,000

      • Hmm, is there anything to stop you doing a bpay payment to a bank account? Would they know and charge cash advance fees?

      • Should also mention. Even if they do accept BPAY, you need to heck the merchant on the BPAY site, whether they accept credit, that is some merchants accepts credit as a cash advance not a credit

      • Does the Dinners club card come with lounge access?

  • +9

    ITS CHURN CITY BABY

  • No Google Pay support?

    • Yeah. They have their own NFC app, but it's not very reliable - which makes it useless. You'd never trust it to work, so you always have to carry a backup card, so you may as well just pay with the card.

    • No, but you can use Samsung Pay if you have a Samsung phone, which is much better than their silly NFC app.

  • Is there anything stopping you from applying for the card, getting the 90K bonus points, and then cancelling the card say 6 months in (or before the annual fee kicks in)?

    • +1

No, that's a pretty standard practice for people. You have to meet the requirements (spend $4k in 3 months) and also have to pay the $49 QFF fee.

    • +1

No. That’s what every point chaser does… well they cancel as soon as the points arrive.

      • Maybe that's not a good pattern to have in the credit report? Alternatively just keep it for like 11 months and cancel then, and pick up some points on the spends along the way.

        • +1

The trouble is then it will be 23 months before you're eligible again with Citi, instead of 14-15 months.

        • really depends on your situation and if the credit report really matters to you, i.e if you are not going to have a home loan soon for example doesn't really matter. Then cancelling it early means you will be quicker eligible if there is another deal :)

  • Closed my Qantas money card late January, only citi card i have is the free visa debt one. I should be eligible right?

  • are current citibank holders eligible for this offer?

  • Is anyone getting errors with the signup? e..g . "I'm sorry. I can't do that right now. Please try again later"

  • Maybe just apply for the ANZ one instead. Value is just slightly worse than this offer but might actually approve… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/448095

    • +1

Given ANZ do a promo every 2 months for that card, there will be plenty of people serving the 12 month exclusion period, or already holding the ANZ who want some extra points.

  • Okay…I am gonna try apply again after being rejected by st geroge 6 months ago.

    Fingers crossed

    • At George rejected me too, I earned 3 times required income but only worked at new employer 2 months,

      • That’s why!

    • Did you get through? I got rejected

  • Approved in 2 hrs.

    • did you have to upload payslips etc?

      • Yea just 1

  • +2

I had horrible experience with Citibank. There were a few unauthorized transactions totaling up to $5,000 and they didn't pick it up at all - even though it was out of my purchase behavior pattern & location. I had to raise fraud claim and the only way to contact them was via letter (no email, no phone, no fax). I refuse to pay the fraud transactions so they keep charging me interest on those purchases. Took 2-3 months to finally got the fraud transactions removed. I just don't feel safe dealing with them.

    • Isn't there a number to call on the back of the card?

    • I did a chargeback a couple of years ago and sent it in via fax.

  • Dependents - Do I list my wife as well? She works full time.

    • No she doesn’t depend on you

      • +1

        But how do you know?

  • I am changing employer in 2 weeks, so I assume this will more than likely get rejected.

St George rejected me in December for same reason,

    • +1

Shouldn’t really. I’ve never seen an application asking if ur changing ur job. This is a Cc app not an Income protection app

    • +1

They don't have to know, right?

  • +4

    For y’all information:

    1. I spoke with Citi bank and confirmed that the offer is available to both new and existing Card holder.
    2. T&C clearly didn’t mention anything about being ineligible if holding another Citi Card in the previous 12 months.
    3. The guy that I spoke to was really quick to answer this question, suggesting it’s a common question so should be pretty good to go.

Let’s see if they decline me :)).

    • I just cancelled the 'fee free for life signature' card, here's hoping I get points with this deal :O.

  • +3

Got a Citibank Signature rewards card Fee free for life.
Am i a new customer for the Citibank Signature Qantas credit card?
Anyone tried this or have confirmed this?

  • Does car rego payments be considered as eligible transactions for the $4k spend?

  • Also rejected :( they offered the platinun card instead but i rejected it.

120k income, 1 mortgage and 1 other credit card in my name.

Was also rejected by St George about 6 months ago.

  • For successful applicants, what were your total monthly living expenses?
    Total of other credit cards?

    • I got approved. Just made up the expenses $1200. Also 1 credit card with $3k limit

  • Has anyone considered that the most likely applicants on DAY 1 of a new offer, will be points churners (including many from Ozbargain). And do you think maybe that influences chance of approval? A bit of an up yours from Citibank to the churners whom they earn nothing from.

You see it with most cc offers posted here within the first day or two. Massive butthurt from everyone getting declined.

I just got the virgin card but citi seem to love me so I might apply, but I'll wait a few weeks for "the dust to settle".

    • I just got the virgin card but citi seem to love me so I might apply, but I'll wait a few weeks for "the dust to settle".

You must be a good source of interest for them? Can't imagine why else they'd love you over the churners

      • +1

Interest? That's crazy talk. I've not paid a cent of interest and accrued ~300k points thanks to citi in the last two years. Not sure exactly why they love me.

        • +1

They don't, the better word is probably tolerate. You're a cost they must bare to acquire a customer who is profitable. I am also a cost they must bare, or at least one they are unable to easily filter out.

  • +1

Hmm would buying Coles gift cards work to make it over the 90 day $4000 threshold ?

    • +2

      Yes, absolutely.

      • excellent, thanks mate

  • Applied for a velocity card earlier in the week for the 0% BT. Approval wasn’t fast, and I had a rep call me up and ask me leading questions that seemed intended to improve my application - such as attributing half my mortgage repayments to my wife….. despite her being a stay at home mum with no income. Better that getting declined, but indicated that Citibank are being really strict at present.

  • If you don’t have a Qantas ff membership do you have to sign up for one? Normally the fee is $99, or should the $49 annual fee for the Citibank Qantas rewards program cover this?

    • +2

Qantas Membership is always free (there's always somewhere giving out free signups)

    • Where and how do you know if your QANTAS membership is active on the Citibank card.

I can't see it on the app or rewards section.

  • +7

just be warned, Citibank has one of the worst apps, online banking, customer service, and worst in-branch service, if you can find any. I can't discourage anyone from joining them enough.

    • I like citibank as they are the only ones that allow cheque to self on credit cards at like 0% interest, app is fine for me but granted I use Nab for banking and Citi just for CC cards and Wine or Cheques

      • +1

They have good products, just the worst service and apps/online banking.

  • I'm well over the salary, no debt, extremely low living costs, no bad credit rating, rent paid for by work… Still denied. Is there something I'm missing? Only card that has accepted me so far is bloody woolworths.

    • What does your credit score look like? (e.g. mine is ~810 on credit savvy). I suspect a large part of mine (besides obviously making repayments on time) is having 2 cards with quite low limits (one is $1000 and I keep for its price protection insurance, and other is ~$3000 with no international fee for overseas purchases or travel, but I would be fine if that were around the $1000 to $1500 level). No annual fee on both, both get quite low usage, and paid off in full, but they just sit there month-in-month-out telegraphing in stereo "reliable repayer" to any prospective creditors. Most providers keep raising the minimum credit limits though, which makes this harder.

    • I'm well over the salary, no debt, extremely low living costs, no bad credit rating, rent paid for by work… Still denied. Is there something I'm missing? Only card that has accepted me so far is bloody woolworths.

I suspect what you're missing is that by the description above you are not their target demographic and will probably not pay off the acquisition costs

    • +1

      no debt

That's your problem. Your credit rating actually goes up when you have debt and you pay on time.

      • That isn't how our system works here we are not the US. I have zero debt and never get declined.

        • No mortgage?

          • @BarryBargain88: House was paid off last year, debt free for under a year and I haven't felt this alive since riding my bike to preschool kick to kick with the boys.

        • +1

I have zero debt and never get declined.

How do you have zero debt and "never get declined"? If you've never gotten declined, doesn't that mean you have debt? Either way, you've had debt throughout your life, I was more referring to people who have never had any sort of debt.

My experience is that it's tough to get one of these higher limit cards without any pre-existing history of good debt. I was declined for my first card when I was 22. Instead, I got a lower limit, fee-free card, used that for a year and applied again and it got through without any problems.

  • Do you pick the credit limit, or do they? And if it's too high, can you decrease it? Seems to me you just want a little over the $4000 min spend, e.g. $5000 - but if they pick, concerned it'll probably either be a rejection, or an exceedingly high limit.

    • +1

You can select but the minimum is $15000

      • Thank you.

        • +1

          They allocated mine. $21,600!!

  • when you spend $4,000 within 90 days from approval.

    Thats not easy for me.

4k spend, unless you transfer money to yourself

    • 4k spend, unless you transfer money to yourself

Well that won't work, unless you're a merchant who can process payments, but then you'd be the one paying the transaction fees that go towards the points and they would be less valuable.

In my opinion, if it's a stretch, you're probably going to have a tough time getting approved by Citi

    • +4

I'm jealous of your low living expenses. If you shop & pay the bills for a household (e.g. partner + 1 or more kids), it's dead set easy to make this spend. Petrol (7-eleven price lock of course), comprehensive car insurance, rego, CTP, car servicing, dentist, health insurance, a few meals out (even with lunch specials / entertainment card / etc), school uniform, school fees (now a thing even at public schools), groceries, after school care, swim school, music lessons, electricity, gas, home contents insurance, a few new clothes from Kmart / Target, few domestic discount flights, basic mobile service, GP / vaccinations / scans (actually anything with a medicare rebate is great, because you usually spend $x, get a rebate of say $x/2 into another account, but the bank counts $x towards the min spend), internet connection, few pharmacy medicines, few bottles of wine / beer, and so forth. Even with shopping around/looking out for OzBargain deals on all of the above, with a family & redirecting the spend to this card, you will knock this over, easy. Even at twice the min spend in the same time, make it, easy. And if you still can't do it, we should make a deal: your card, my spend, and split the points.

      • Sounds like you need a new family with a low-expense feature, not a low-interest credit card :D

  • -1

Remember that since the royal commission banks have tightened up lending criteria. Also, they're using comprehensive credit reporting now, which basically means they know how you spend your money so can use that the determine risk as well. I didn't go for this as min 15k limit is ridiculously high.

    • +2

I didn't go for this as min 15k limit is ridiculously high.

Really? It's the min limit for most cards in this category: ANZ FF Black, the St George Amplify, the Westpac Altitude, etc.

  • Could anyone please tell me how long it will take to get approval or decline?

    • I applied and it asked for evidence of income.
For those who got approved, are you still required to upload your income ?

    • If it is declined, it will be instant.
They will require more documents for approval.

    • Took 2 hours for me.

    • Approved 30mins after I submitted a pay slip

    • I applied online over the weekend, got a phone call asking random questions on Tuesday and was approved within minutes of the call. I did provide all doco with my original application.
